Business Buzz

Changes on Walnut Hill and Central

Cedars Mediterranean Mezza & Grill on Walnut Hill near Central Expressway closed recently. By all accounts the restaurant was thriving, so this wasn’t due to lack of business. Owner Nabil Dimassi told The Dallas Morning News, “We have made an agreement with the landlord to move out by the end of the month so they can move on with the redevelopment.” He hopes to open another Cedars in the same area of town soon. Cypress Equities purchased the 16-acre Corner Shopping Center that housed the restaurant. The company plans to redevelop the center and call it The Hill. Austin-based TreeHouse, a home improvement retailer featuring sustainable construction materials, will serve as anchor tenant.

Old school

Old World Tailor on Preston Road near Forest celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The shop specializes in leather repair, wedding dress alterations, monogramming and more. Owner Anna Taylor says walk-ins are welcome but you can make an appointment.

Local history

The Texas Historical Commission recently recognized Cochran Heights for its historical significance. The neighborhood includes 60 homes designed by famed architect Charles Dilbeck between 1932 and 1940. An official marker will be placed along Henderson Street on April 3. To celebrate, the Cochran Heights Neighborhood Association (CHNA) will host a dedication ceremony in front of the marker at 1 p.m. From 2 to 4 p.m. guests can tour five of the Dilbeck houses. Tickets are $20 day of or $15 in advance. Visit cochran-heights.com for more information.

Sweet tooth

Hospitality Sweet, which got its start downtown opened a second location last month. Thankfully, it’s in our neighborhood. Pop in for lunch — the menu boasts brisket paninis, grilled chicken jalapeno wraps and more — or indulge in a macaroon or two. The exact location is 6135 Luther. That address has gone through a lot of tenants in recent years, including Peak Grille, Bowen’s Café Expresso and Lombardi’s.
