introduction Bromley Sparks, Bromley Speaking Up Group, Young Advisers and Bexley Speaking Up Group members and guests came to our celebration. Here are James, Adam and Annie welcoming each other to the event.

The question time panel members were Claire Lewin and Morag Nevin from Bromley CCG and Angus Culverwell and Andrew Royle from Bromley Council.

what we do in our groups In Bromley there are lots of different groups. We attend important meetings to speak up and make things better. We build our confidence and we help each other . We raise money to keep our groups going.

I speak up for myself Jo said I enjoy working with the group and I find it interesting

some of what we do in Bromley easy read easy read helps members to understand information by using pictures and shorter words
community life community is about members going out and getting involved. we get involved in social activities such as bowling, going out to eat and sometimes going to London
confidence Adam spoke about being able to have the confidence to go out in the community
live well group The live well group talk about healthy eating and exercise. we find out which food and drink are good and bad for you 6
health meetings Laura and Gillian go to the health focus meeting every month to talk about health. They talk about doctors and black books
keeping safe keeping safe is about protecting people from harm. The A Team train people about how to keep safe and what to do if something happens
fundraising Linda talked about fundraising for Bromley Sparks to keep their office at Community House
go4it go4it is about going out in the local community and keeping fit. It is about doing different types of exercise and being a part of the community and being sociable 7

having a voice in Bromley 2016 At our big meeting in October we spoke about keeping safe, health money and transport.
In October 2016 we had a big meeting.
We spoke about the good things and bad things that have happened.
Bromley Sparks, Bromley Speaking Up Group, the Young Advisers and the A Team had lots of ideas but also lots of questions

keeping safe Sarah asked
what happens when somebody reports abuse in Bromley?
Claire said
it is the council’s job to look into any report about abuse. it is everybody’s job to keep people safe from harm. the local authority will make sure that the person is safe.

what special training is being carried out to make sure we are all safe from abuse?
Claire said
you can contact the Bromley safeguarding adults board training department and they will give you information on keeping safe training. please send me information on your project. I will make sure others know about it

are the GP receptionists still being trained to deal with people with learning difficulties?
Morag said
all receptionists will have customer relations training. receptionists will be trained to treat everybody equally. please contact us if you have a bad experience

why don’t all doctors use black books?
Morag said
the black book should be filled out by a doctor. please bring your hospital passport with you if you go to the hospital.

money Teresa asked are you going to train people who work at the benefit office to work with people with learning difficulties?
Andrew said no that’s the Department of Work and Pensions job not Bromley Council’s job.
there is a new project starting to support people who don’t use services. They will also work with the benefits office and others to make services better for people 16
money George asked does Bromley Council have any budgeting services to help people with learning difficulties who are facing financial struggles?
Andrew said looking after your money is very important. if you need help about looking after your money Bromley Mencap will be able to support you.

transport David asked are you going to repair the potholes and pavements in the road in Bromley to make sure people with disabilities are safe?
Angus said
street investigators look after the pavements if the pavements are not safe the street team will investigate it

transport Gordon asked
what are you doing about school children causing problems on the buses?
Angus said
road safety officers help to keep people safe on public transport. they talk to young people in school about how to behave on transport

we are happy
there are road safety officers on the buses the local authority will help everybody to keep people safe the GP receptionists will be trained to treat everybody equally and respectfully
we are not happy about

school children causing problems on the bus. Is it Transport for London’s job to keep people safe on buses? there not being enough teaching in schools for teenagers about how to behave on the bus with other people

awards and achievements at the meeting votes were made and people were given achievements and awards for their hard work
Sarah gave TrĂŠ the Jack Petchey Achievement award for his hard work as a Young Adviser.
