MAJOR HEALTH BOOST... Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell, Opposition Leader Matthew Guy, Liberal candidate Cheryl Hammer, Greater Shepparton City Council mayor Cr Shane Sali, National’s candidate Kim O’Keeffe, and La Trobe University deputy vice-chancellor, Richard Speed.

THE Victorian Coalition has pledged to immediately allocate $100M to develop a new integrated cancer centre and clinical health school in Shepparton should they be successful at the November state election. State opposition leader, Matthew Guy visited GV Health Shepparton yesterday to announce his government’s plan to reprioritise funding by shelving Labor’s $35B Cheltenham and Box Hill rail line and invest this back into healthcare. ON Saturday, August 13 a remarkable and quite wonderful thing happened. Decorated in swathes of orange, white and green, the theatrette at the Greater Shepparton Secondary College was transformed into a hub of excitement as children and teachers from the Victorian School of Language (VSL) recalled a monumental moment in history.OnAugust 15, 1947, India became an independent nation. Astoundingly, the rule of the British Raj was ended by non-violent, civil disobedience, led by the unyielding Mahatma Ghandi. WITH the bleachers trimmed in the colours of the Indian flag, school age children, principally of Indian descent, proudly sang the country’s national anthem, followed by a viewing of the history of rule and self-rule in the South Asian nation. For Hindi language teacher, Arunabha Banning, the Independence Day event was not only celebratory but a valuable lesson for the students to understand the cultural nuances of their background, and how history provides context for identity and practice. With students studying different languages from around the subcontinent at VSL, the Independence Day event was exceptional for Arunabha, who says, “I think it was a unique experience for the kids because they were able to come together with people from different regions of India – and that hardly ever happens. To come together, to unite and to celebrate our motherland was an extraordinary opportunity.”VSLoffers

$100M health pledge for Shepparton

THE proposed cancer centre would quadruple GV Health’s existing facility while expanding its current cancer services and allowing new models of specialised care for people in the region fighting cancer. To address ongoing staffing issues at regional hospitals, Mr Guy has also pledged a clinical health school that would be created in partnership with La Trobe University and support more than 300 nursing and allied health enrolments each year.“It will enable us to increase the number of nurses and midwives coming through to graduation by about 40 percent of postgraduate nurses, allied health by about 30 percent,” said La Trobe University deputy vice-chancellor, Richard Speed.

“85 percent of regional graduates stay in regional Victoria and contribute through their careers. There’s a very direct impact of this kind of investment.” This pledge builds on the Liberal and Nationals promise to build new teaching hospitals in Mildura, Wodonga and Warragul."The$100 million dollars that I’m committing will go a long way to providing the cancer services people locally need, it will go a long way to training the nurses and physicians of the future,” said Mr Guy.

TAKING ACTION... Independent Member for Shepparton District, Suzanna Sheed, has spoken about the state of regional and rural roads, as well as the needs for the Shepparton Bypass, recently in Parliament ahead of the state election in November.

“The Shepparton Bypass is an essential safety and freight project for our region, allowing for a second river crossing of the Goulburn River, north of Shepparton. It will also remove heavy traffic from the central business districts of Shepparton and Mooroopna,” she said. “Once the project begins, it will create job opportunities for our community over the next 10 years, so its implementation will have twofold benefit.”

IN Parliament recently, Independent Member for Shepparton, Suzanna Sheed, brought the state of regional roads to the Premier’s attention, also securing a positive commitment from Daniel Andrews regarding the Shepparton Bypass. “Many of Victoria’s rural and regional roads are in a poor condition,” said Ms Sheed. “Even major highways such as the Goulburn Valley Highway and Hume Freeway between Shepparton and Melbourne have significant areas of road damage, with potholes not usually seen on roads of such national importance.” Ms Sheed said that she drove on the major highways weekly and saw the damage first-hand.“While I see repairs are being carried out on our regional roads, there is still significant damage that could cause accidents, injuries, or damage to vehicles.”

“I want the entire road networks across regional and rural Victoria to be repaired to a high standard to make our roads safe for allSheusers.”said this is an issue she feels passionately about and one that will underpin her election campaign. Furthermore, Ms Sheed is said to have convinced the State Government to reopen discussions with the Federal Government regarding the Shepparton Bypass. The major project has been in limbo following an 80:20 funding promise between both governments in 2019. A business case created by the State Government and handed to the Federal Government remained concealed for months until former Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce, revealed costs has risen to $1.2B.Ms Sheed used her question time in Parliament to ask Mr Andrews if he would actively seek a commitment from the new Federal Government to partner with State Labor to fund the Bypass. “This is a vital project that is well overdue and will benefit not only for our region, but the whole of Victoria and indeed the entire Eastern Seaboard,” said Ms Sheed, who was “buoyed by the Premier’s support.”

ELECTION TIME…

WE are currently between major elections, and it seems like just yesterday the Federal election was held. Too often in politics division and back biting takes place. Some pollies seem to believe to divide and conquer is preferable to more palatable methods of governance.Itwaswith this in mind, that I was delighted to read in The Adviser earlier this year (May 25th, 2022) of our three main local candidates who, on election night, shared a beer and made sure they all finished their campaigns without any division between them. My chest swelled with pride as I saw that Greater Shepparton was different to the national narrative – we work together here. I know this to be true, as I saw firsthand in my role of chairing the Shepparton Foodshare that when our city was locked down last year, all the local organisations banded together in a unified response to crisis. I believe local Christians prayers that our city would increasingly be united are starting to be answered and ultimately the word of the Psalmist in the Bible “ How wonderful, how beautiful, when brothers and sisters get along!... Yes, that’s where God commands the blessing” is starting to being realised here. I invite you to join with me in keeping a watchful eye out for increased blessings in our community.

The ‘Communities Shaping the Future Film Festival’ aims to champion local communities and neighbourhoods and raise awareness of climate change and how we can address and tackle climactic changes at a local level.

LAMB BOOM... Sheep farmers have reported huge increases in lamb production, helped by strong seasonal conditions.

The film festival this year, themed ‘A Self-Sufficient Community; Transition to a Better World’, will be held at the Mechanic’s Institute Hall, 75 Hogan Street, Tatura on Saturday August 27 from 10.00am to 3.00pm. There will be plenty of tea and coffee available starting from 9:40am, with nibblies and lunch provided.

SHEEP farmers have reported a total breeding flock of 42.5M head, an increase of 500,000 ewes since last year, according to Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and the Australian Wool Innovation’s (AWI) Wool and Sheep Meat Survey Report for June 2022. The survey, which runs three times a year, collects sheepmeat industry livestock numbers and lamb production expectation to generate better forecasts so that producers can make efficient decisions. Australian producers reported 22M lambs on hand. Merinos made up 55 percent of the total flock, at 12M head, followed by First Cross and Pure Meat lambs. According to Ripley Atkinson, MLA’s senior market information analyst, the desire to retain breeding ewe populations stems from stellar growing seasons, particularly in the eastern states.

“The majority of this growth is coming from eastern Victoria, northern NSW and southern Queensland where there have been very wet conditions. This demonstrates plenty of confidence in the market with room for growth moving into spring,” said Mr Atkinson. A total of 7.6M lambs are expected to be sold in the next four months, approximately 34 percent of the total number of lambs on hand.

2022 Tatura short film festival

“Compared to the last survey released in February of this year, 27 percent of producers surveyed said that they would like to increase their ewe flock, while 60 percent indicated they would like to retain current numbers.

“With the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting strong seasonal conditions for the eastern states as the new season lambs hit the market, the signs are looking positive for the Australian sheepmeat industry,” said Mr Atkinson.

Falling bulk-billing rates, a sign of things to come

Lifestyle Yarrawonga is

AN increasing number of General Practitioners are ditching bulk billing. Following a HealthEd survey, it was found that 22 percent of GPs had changed their billing model, meaning patients are facing higher out-of-pocket costs to see a doctor. Rising practice costs and Medicare cuts were listed as key reasons for the billing changes. President of The Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP), Adj. Professor Karen Price says, “General practice is up against it, and unless government boosts investment in GP care, more and more practices will be forced to pass the cost on to patients.” With the previous federal government touting a record high of 88 percent in the national bulk billing rate, the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Mark Butler says the devil is in the detail. “There is a difference between the proportion of GP services that are bulk billed and the proportion of patients who had all their GP consults bulk billed...the proportion of patients who had all their GP care bulk billed was just 67.6 percent.” Ms Price asserts that investment in general practice is sorely needed and it is not an easy decision for practices having to pass on increased costs to their patients, especially at a time when the basket of consumer goods is so high.

Over the Term 2 holidays, teachers Frank Adams, Michelle Donders, and assistant principal Rosie Hocking volunteered to take students to Northern Territory. On their trip they saw geological features including Uluru and had the opportunity to connect with country by participating in Indigenous workshops.

“For most of the students this was their first time on a plane,” recalled Rosie. “There were a lot of new experiences, like going through customs, putting up a tent – the kids even tried meals they had never had before,” said Rosie.

In June, ACE College’s Year 12’s went to Cairns where they experienced wonders like the Daintree Rainforest and learned about environmental damage to the coast and Great Barrier Reef.

“Students have had two years in their early teenage life without anything good happening at all, only fear and screen time, which we know isn’t good,” said school principal Bronwyn Rose. “The camping programs are intended to reconnect people with themselves and the broader world, rather than their bedrooms.” 10 students will represent the college on an international trip to Cambodia and Vietnam next month. All these experiences have been covered by the school, with teachers assisting in securing passports and other documents.

The cushions – which have been made from recycled materials – have been installed near pedestrian crossings on top of the existing road surface. Data from the TAC reveals that in 2022, 29 pedestrians have lost their lives on Victorian roads, an increase from 16 lives lost at the same time last year. For Sally Rose, early years manager for Greater Shepparton City Council, the reforms signify a significant step forward in early education but emphasise that the individual needs of children must be addressed, saying “If we get it right in the early years — value children and the basic skills that are working to acquire — it sets them up for Critically, life.”itis the application of the rich early years’ curriculum and educator skill, that the success of the new reforms rest, as Sally says, “It comes down to the individualisation of child learning in kindergartens and centres and the quality of interactions between the child and educators.”Knowing, as Maria Montessori said, ‘Early childhood education is the key to the betterment of society,” let’s hope the reforms support educators sufficiently, to build the future.

For national director of SmartPlay Early Learning, Helen Williams-Johnson, the reforms will better assist children to transition to school. Using overseas data, where fulltime kindergarten has been successfully implemented, and from personal case studies, Helen says, “The children with five days a week have greater school readiness, get less tired at school are more emotionally prepared and have developed core social skills to be able to fully engage with the learning environment and peers.”

By Natasha Fujimoto “ONE test of the correctness of education procedure is the happiness of the child,” said the great educationalist, Maria Montessori.In2032,Kindergarten hours in Victoria will double to 30 hours per week due to sweeping early years educational reforms. For educators and teachers, it is an invigorating opportunity to make the most of their students’ formative years, while immersing the children in a rich, playbased (Montessori inspired) curriculum.

Contributed by Diane Baglin of Mooroopna IN 1988, my sister and I set out on a European adventure with Contiki. After a 30-hour flight we made it to Heathrow, where we were taken to our motel to begin our travels.Part of our itinerary, while in Italy, was to attend a leathermaking demonstration and learn the difference between ‘real’ leather and imitation leather. While there, we couldn’t resist ordering a tailor-made jacket for ourselves.Afterwards, we had free time to shop at our leisure. My sister and I meandered our way through the streets of Italy where we found a handbag shop. Armed with the knowledge we had learned about ‘true’ leather and imitation leather; we both came out with matching handbags. Mine was copper colour, and my sister’s a black handbag. We were walking back to meet our coach when stopped at the lights, it began raining. We sat put our ‘new’ handbags down – but kept hold of the shoulder strap. The lights turned green, and we went to walk when the bottom of our handbags had rotted away! Everything was now in the gutter and embarrassed as we were, we gathered all our things (and ourselves) and thought how smart we were. We had been conned; they were made of cardboard! on a trip in the

WITHOUT strong mental health, everything else just crumbles away. In cities and towns, the stresses of modern demands can be alleviated by readily accessing a range of mental health services, but in remote and outer-remote regions of Australian, these vital supports are out of reach.Partnering with Beyond Blue, Zoetis –a leading animal health group- has raised over $600, 000 to date and aim to raise another $100,000 this year to support rural communities with the ensuing mental health crisis following years of drought, flood, bushfire and on-going COVID related issues.

Weekly monitoring continues at Gaynor Swamp following the completion of an environmental watering event. The watering commenced on 5 April and ceased on 18 May and delivered over 900ML to the site. The good news, however, comes with the relief provided by funds raised by the Zoetis/ Beyond Blue partnership, with Zoetis senior vice president and cluster lead, Lance Williams saying, “To date, thanks to Zoetis donation, over 12,000 people have been able to get the support they need...”

Acknowledging the famed resilience of rural communities, former president of the NSW farmers Association, Derek Schoen (who also sits on Beyond Blue’s board of directors) says, “We want everyone to know that support is available and encourage people to seek advice. Asking for support is a sign of strength-not weakness.”

Exacerbated by isolation, financial hardship and stigma related to poor mental health, rural and remote Australians face a devastating suicide rate, sixty percent higher than in major cities.

AFTER presenting an extraordinarily successful annual concert in June, the Goulburn Valley Concert Orchestra (GVCO) are preparing music for smaller ensembles and individual items for a special Chamber Concert Series to be held on the Sunday afternoons of August 28, September 4, and September 11, from 2pm at Eastbank. The GVCO is comprised of many talented musicians who delight in exploring a broad range of repertoire that is written specifically for small groups or individual performances. These works demonstrate their musicianship and the fun they derive from performance and music-making with friends. Amongst items featured at these concerts will be wind ensembles, Jazz with Brian Matthew and Wade Gregory. Carole McGregor will intrigue audiences with her electric violin loop performance and Charlotte Drinnan will accompany clarinettist, Carissa Lee, and perform in a trio with Eric Anderson and Sandy Sexton. GVCO has participated in two workshops with John Noble from Orchestra Victoria. It will perform music from composers GVCO has not performed previously, in a refreshing range of styles. Save the dates and support local musicians who are thrilled to perform. Entry only costs a gold coin donation, or a note, if you enjoy what you hear.

The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another, so enjoy this edition of The Adviser’s ‘Inspirational Women in Business Feature’ where you will be taken into the lives of many astounding women within our region. be a part of the change

INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN IN EMERGENCY SERVICES...

AS time has progressed, attitudes about women working and their employment prospects have changed, and we are now seeing more and more independent and inspirational women all around us. Meet four of our local, front line emergency service employees who have all been inspired by someone or something to hold the positions they have today.

Eight years ago, Nacole Standfield was introduced to Shepparton Search and Rescue through friends. She was interested in helping the community and she is now the first female Search and Rescue president in 50 years. “I have seen a lot of change over the years, more so recently with an influx of women coming forward to be a part of what we do. It is great. There is plenty of room for women in this line of work. Some parts of the job are not for everyone, but there is always a way to help,” said Nacole.

Both stated that the opportunity to help other people and really try to help them is what drives their passion for what they do in the community, and for the community. “Every day I have an opportunity to change people’s lives. I do not feel like I am inspirational in any way but if I can inspire others to do better, then I am helping people and I am doing my job right,” said Sharyn. Jasmine’s message was precise. “It is time to take the gender out of it and be a part of the change.”

Pictured from left, Ambulance Victoria’s Shepparton acting team manager Sarah Jones, Shepparton Search and Rescue president Nacole Standfield with Sargent Sharyn Lloyd and Sargent Jasmine Gregor from the Shepparton Police Force.

The acting team manager for Ambulance Victoria at the Shepparton branch is Sarah Jones. At just seven years of age, Sarah was involved in a serious accident, and the paramedics that saved her life inspired her towards the health industry, which she has now been a part of for fifteen years. “Don't be afraid to speak up and ask for help. Never hold back on your dreams, give them a go,” said Sarah. Sargent Sharyn Lloyd and Sargent Jasmine Gregor have both been in the police force for over 20 years.

FOLLOWING a rewarding career in nursing spanning 15 years, Shepparton mother-of-four Monique Camm has combined her passion for health, as well as physical and emotional wellbeing, by founding GV Body Rejuvenation.

“The main key to success is loving what you do. If you have a passion and can turn that into a business venture, that makes you far more likely to enjoy building and scaling your business.” GV Body Rejuvenation is conveniently located in Shepparton’s CBD at 104 Nixon St. For further information on the treatments Monique offers and to book an obligation-free consultation, visit gvbodyrejuvenation.com.

“The work/life balance owning my own clinic has afforded me is invaluable. I’m able to see my children off to school and be there for them whenever they need me,” reflects Monique.

GV Body Rejuvenation offers BTL EMSELLA, EMSCULPT and EMTONE system treatments to help rebuild muscle health and restore confidence for clients at all stages of life. Monique offers free, 15-minute consultations to gauge if the treatments she offers will be truly beneficial to prospective clients. If she can’t give them the best possible results, she has no qualms about referring them onto other local health professionals.

TONE UP AND CELLULITETREAT EMTONE is the rst and only device that simultaneously delivers both thermal and mechanical energy to eliminate all main causes of cellulite and loose skin effectively and non-invasively. It is ideal for anyone looking for noninvasive cellulite reduction and overall improvement of skin appearance and physiological function.

WORLD- RENOWNED TREATMENTS HERE IN SHEPPARTON... Following a rewarding career in nursing spanning 15 years, Shepparton mother of four Monique Camm has combined her passion for health, as well as physical and emotional wellbeing, by founding GV Body Rejuvenation.

BUILD MUSCLE AND SCULPT YOUR BODY EMSCULPT is designed to both build muscle and burn fat at the same time. It is based on high-intensity strengthwhichelectromagneticfocusedenergycausesthousandsofpowerfulmusclecontractionsthatareextremelyimportantinimprovingthetoneandofyourmuscles.

“I truly want the best for people who come and see me. While I can help so many people, I believe in delivering life-changing results, and if that’s not possible with the treatments I offer, I still want the best for people seeking guidance,” said Monique. As a working mother herself, Monique understands women should prioritise their health in order to be the best version of themselves. That isn’t always easy when many women are the primary caregivers to their children, but GV Body Rejuvenation is a child-friendly clinic. Archana and her husband, Melvin, always had ambitions to one day own a pharmacy, and in 2013 they purchased Chemist Discount Centre (previously Priceline Marketplace).

“Being born and raised in a family with a business background, running my own business has always been my ambition,” reflected Archana. “Owning two successful businesses demands great responsibility and I find myself immersed and working more behind the scenes these days than on the shop floor.

Archana and Melvin believe in empowering their staff and provide ongoing training, and recently organised a motivational speaker to help navigate the team around the retail pharmacy industry.

“I believe leadership is to help one another lead, appreciate each other’s point of view and move forward together as a team. At work I love asking staff for their opinions and suggestions, then I collate these ideas and implement them, and this helps us all to improve.”

In 2018, they took the challenge even further and bought Shepparton Amcal Pharmacy (previously known as John Anderson Pharmacy).

Recently, she has had the privilege of being joined by local melanographer and registered Division 1 nurse, Alanna Adams, who is helping facilitate the delivery of dermatologic care to patients here in the Goulburn Valley.

“A holistic approach involves treating the whole patient and being invested in their long-term goals and needs. I believe in offering my patients individualised treatment plans to treat skin conditions and concerns,” said Dr Rudd.

“I am thrilled to be working alongside such a knowledgable and experienced specialist like Dr Rudd. It is imperative the Shepparton community has access to high-quality specialist care which negates the need to travel to Melbourne,” said Alanna.

Gender has nothing over experience. Megan, and other women in the industry, have a special superpower though. Research into how genders see colour shows several differences, with female respondents showing they are more adept at distinguishing between subtle gradations then men.

“A long time ago, even though I’d been at the Geelong site for several years, we would still get that older generation of men that would look past you for a male. They’d blatantly say, ‘Is there a guy who can serve me?’” recalls Megan. “Our boss has always fiercely defended us girls. He’d come out and tell them, ‘Well, ask her a question. If she doesn’t know the answer, she’ll get you the answer.”

“This wasn’t something I pictured myself doing, but I really enjoy it. I enjoy the banter with the regulars. I think if you were someone who took yourself too seriously, you wouldn’t last too long in a trade, guy or girl,” says Megan.

In wholehearted agreement, dispensary technicians Tracey Brassil and Kellie Birang state, “Our customers are like an extension of family, that’s why they keep coming back. They can feel that we are a team, and we are here to do as much as we can for them.”

The theme of family also encompasses the youngest member of the team, Sienna Tsorbaris, who aptly states, “I love it! I look up to all the staff, because I am the youngest. They have all helped me out so much in my study and in my role, they’re like my second family.”

THE many achievements in business by local women cannot be acknowledged without mentioning Finny’s Manchester, a success story of fine service for over 33 years. Shepparton’s Finny’s Manchester is an institution that has sustained throughout the challenges of the recession ‘we had to have’ in the early 1990s, the Global Financial Crisis which began in 2007, and more recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. Extraordinarily, Finny’s Manchester continues to look after 100s of customers week in, week out both in Shepparton and Bendigo. What underpins their lasting success, in addition to hard work, are two generations of Finns working at the business and a formidable team of females who continue their steadfast service. Combining over 100 years of exemplary customer service are Anne Finn, with 33 years of service; Tina Sicali (Finn) with 33 years; Shirley, with 25 years' service, Tara, with 15 years' service, and Darielle, nine years' service.

By Natasha Fujimoto COMMUNITY is only as strong as the connectivity of its people. When doors are open, allowing the twoway passage of knowledge and experience, the entire community is well positioned to feel the benefits.

GREAT news for women’s health was recently announced by the Victorian Government. Shepparton is to receive a new sexual and reproductive healthcare hub, providing access to information and services on all forms of contraception, pregnancy options and sexual health. The hub will also provide a range of vital services including facilitating diagnosis and management of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), menopause and endometriosis, and promoting local access to cervical screening and Breast Screen Service. Based on current demand and availability, the new hub in Shepparton is one of three new hubs announced for the state, bringing the number in total to eleven, while new funding will also extend the operating hours and scope of services at existent hubs.

Discovering an abundance of generous women in the community who are willing to share their experience and expertise, Neha says, “It’s not a bible that you can just open and say, ‘this is my solution,’ but it does give you that advantage of getting to know somebody outside your normal life- using their expertise, experience and building yourself through their eyes. It’s a two-way connection, the mentee learns and the mentor gains fresh perspective.”

Minister for Health, Mary-Anne Thomas said, “Victorian women deserve access to quality sexual and reproductive healthcare regardless of where they live. The new hub in Shepparton, Morewell and Warrnambool is about ensuring regional women can get the care they need close to home.”

The team are proof that selling a broad range of quality manchester, alongside the provision of great customer experience, sets you up to shelter through the storm.

Born out of frustration with the formality of seeking expertise from professionals in the region, Neha Samar dreamed to life The Flamingo Project, and has since connected many women through practical mentorship. By brokering introductions between professional women and those who want practical, nuanced insight into potential career paths (and/or fields of interest), the mentors and mentees have not only found success but rewarding friendships.

FOUR GENERATIONS OF MANCHESTER…FINNY’S Strong family bonds are the backbone of Finny’s Manchester and a key to their great success. Pictured from back is Zoe Sicali, Tina Sicali and in front, Anne Finn and Aileen Hendy (deceased). Photo: Steve Hutcheson.

Neha Samar dreamed to life

The new hub in Shepparton will ensure that women in the region will have access to early diagnosis of chronic conditions such as endometriosis that affect sexual function and enjoyment, fertility and overall reproductive health, which is critical to better long-term outcomes.

Finny’s Manchester is ‘the little store, with big savings and the team’s strong family bond deserves recognition and credit in a time where retail has faced unprecedented challenges. Heading up the Shepparton business is Anne and her daughter Tina, with Ray the owner and namesake of Finny’s Manchester overseeing the buying of stock, storage and logistics. Finny’s Manchester is located at 136 High Street Shepparton. Phone 5831 2592 and also in Bendigo at 81 High Street Bendigo (next to McDonalds) Phone 0457396320. Visit them in-store for regular sales, ridiculous savings and quality manchester.

In conjunction with building meaningful and productive relationships, the Flamingo Project practically assists mentees with field specific interview techniques, resume writing and developing career direction. With many women stepping forward to volunteer their time, Neha states, “It’s about looking into ourselves as women in the community and saying that I am sharing the stage with someone else.” You can find out more about this progressive initiative at https://theflamingoproject.com.au/

OF FINNY’S

“Martin and I work together to raise our children and maintain the reputation our store upholds that we have worked so hard to achieve,” explained Emma. We have a system in place, one week I’m mostly in the store then the next it’s Martin’s turn, so we both have the chance to spend quality time with the kids. Family is so important to us, and this is a routine that works for our business and lifestyle.”

AS one of the longest-standing independent butchers in Shepparton, Krueger’s Fine Meats and Smallgoods have cemented their reputation as the go-to for local foodies with their premium products and specialty items.

“There’s so much background knowledge to be learned in real estate before stepping into a sales position,” said Bonnie. “Wanting to learn it all as well as wanting to understand it is an essential element,” said Janelle. “Because without the fundamentals and the drive, you don’t pick up on those fine, nuanced elements that make a world of difference when you’re working with people. "You have to be a self-starter, because people don’t just come in and give you a house to sell.”

ACTIVE Spine Centre places a strong emphasis on maximising one’s health through better brain-body connections. With everyone living such fast-paced lives, a focus on a holistic approach to one’s health is imperative, especially to women who often bear the brunt of the mental load and often don’t prioritise their health. While the whole team at Active Spine Centre care about the health of women and everyone in general, three members of the team have a keen interest in women-centric health issues.

AT THE FOREFRONT OF women’shealth

Dr Julia is a graduate of RMIT University with a double degree in Health Science and Applied Science (Chiropractic). “I enjoy encouraging others to take an active role in improving their wellbeing. Spinal health and its impact on greater health is such an important message,” explained Julia.

THERE are many inspirational women in the Goulburn Valley, who live locally and work in the many great businesses that make our region a wonderful place to live. A Shepparton institution, GV Hotel general manager, Margie, has managed the hotel for 38 years and loves the opportunities the hospitality industry affords women.

For your next function, group booking or lunch or dinner out, contact the GV Hotel on 5821 9822 and visit them at 223 High Street, Shepparton. - 2.30pm

Rachel is a new member of the Active Spine team and graduated with distinction from Endeavour College of Natural Health with a BA of Health Science (Naturopathy). She believes Naturopathy is not about a quick fix, but a lifelong change. “I believe in the importance of collaboration between western and different complementary medicine practitioners to create the best outcome for our patients.” Dr Black has grown the centre to three locations, Shepparton, Seymour and Nagambie. The Shepparton branch is located at The Butter Factory Complex. The team can be contacted on 5831 2934, on Facebook and through their website www.activespinecentre.com.au.

"I am beyond grateful for everyone's support. This is my first foray into the hospitality industry, and I really enjoy it. Every day is different," said Wendy. Michelle Swanson is a junior manager and praises the benefits of working for such an understanding employer. Michelle is refreshingly open about her mental health battles and took a hiatus from the hospitality industry to study a diploma of beauty therapy.

Dr Jen has completed a Masters of Clinical Chiropractic and is a member of the Chiropractors’ Association of Australia. Graduating in 2009 from RMIT Bundoora, she was presented with an ‘Excellence in Chiropractic Science’ award. “I really enjoy treating patients of all ages. I am passionate about advocating the potential benefits of chiropractic care and the overall health benefits taking care of one’s spine brings,” said Dr Jen.

"Because that's the thing about hospitality, there's such a full range of jobs and you can travel with it. If you can work behind a bar and you can carry a conversation, you'll get a job anywhere," said Margie. Bistro supervisor Wendy McDonald, has worked with the team for 14 months in total and is a breast cancer survivor. She commends Margie and the rest of the staff for being so supportive and understanding during her journey.

Dr Julia has particular interest in the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy, and in managing neck pain, headaches and migraines.

GVL Netball round

The Adviser. Australia No.1:1625 Wednesday, August 24, 2022 – Page 45 AdviserSPORT

YOU’RE IN... Children aged fi ve to eight have the opportunity to try cricket for free at two workshops happening at Princess Park on Monday, August 29 and Saturday, September 10. Photo: Supplied.

Tip: Euroa.

The stakes are huge for these two teams as they look to sure up a top two finish. For the Lions even if they get beaten by United, they will finish in the top two unless they suffer a big defeat which in turn impacts their final percentage. While Shepparton United could still remain in third spot if loses, but there is a chance it could drop to fourth on the table if Echuca can win and then bridge the percentage gap. I expect the Demons to come out breathing fire and if they can play four strong quarters, I can see them sneaking home in a thriller.

KYABRAM V SHEPPARTON SWANS Kyabram and Shepparton Swans will be looking to finish their seasons with a win. Both teams are unable to qualify for the finals, but will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce to end 2022.I think Kyabram might be able to get the win in a tight contest. Tip: Kyabram.

We are expressionsseekingofinterest for netball coaches for the upcoming 2023 season. All enquires are welcome via email to PRESIDENT@WANGMAGPIES.COM.AU

MOOROOPNA V ECHUCA Mooroopna will be eager to win and protect its place in the top two when it welcomes Echuca today in what was looms as another finals-type contest. The Cats were outstanding in getting past Euroa last weekend while the visitors were brilliant in inflicting defeat on Shepparton United. This promises to be a ripper contest and I am going to go with the home team to win in a thriller. Tip: Mooroopna.

ROCHESTER V SHEPPARTON Shepparton will be looking to end its home and away season with a win when it goes on the road to Rochester. The Tigers are done for 2022 after suffering a narrow loss to the Swans and the Bears getting the job done against Benalla in a two-goal thriller. I think the Tigers will push the Bears all the way, but it will be the visitors in front at the final whistle. Tip: Shepparton 18 by Sam Saracino OF JOINCOACHESTHEPIES

INTEREST

“We just want kids to come down and have fun. For some, it could be the first time they have played cricket and others could be returning to the sport,” said Shepparton Youth Cricket Club United CC (SYCUCC) junior coordinator, Steve Pinnuck.“Cricket is a great sport to make new friends and to stay active. We’re one of the few local clubs with a senior ladies team, and we are working to build upon pathways for women to continue in the sport.”There are two come and try days happening Monday, August 29 from 4.15pm, and again on Saturday, September 10 from 1pm, at the John Riordan Oval Princess Park, Shepparton. No equipment is required, and you are welcome to have a go at both sessions. Information about pre-season registration will be available at the events or call Steve for more info on 0419 876 087.

LOCAL cricket clubs are gearing up for a cracker season. Before the action gets underway, children aged five to eight are welcome to try the sport at a free at Princess Park this month.

Tip: Shepparton United. BENALLA V EUROA Euroa will play finals which is a fantastic achievement and it will be looking to fine tune its game ahead of an elimination final. The Pies were strengthened by the return of playing coach Ellie Warnock and key defender Bridget Hill last weekend and them playing another game which hold them in good stead for the intensity of a final a week later. It will be close, but I am going for the Pies to take winning form into the finals.

SHEPPARTON UNITED V SEYMOUR

These two teams will be looking to go into the summer with a win when their season officially ends after round 18. Tatura has won the one game this season and Mansfield is yet to taste success in 2022. Steph Smith-Gorrie and Elsie Boyer were Tatura’s two standouts in their loss to Seymour last weekend. If they can again lead the way, then the Bulldogs should claim the win. Tip: Tatura.

ROCHESTER SHEPPARTONV Rochester will be looking to ensure it wins to sew-up its place in the finals. They can still miss out if they lost and any results went against them. The key to them doing that will be Jayden Dhosi, Jed Warrin, Jordan McGregor, Lachlan Rumbiolo and Tyler Larkin. But with the Tigers having so much to play for they should win to qualify for the September action.

Tip: Rochester

FINALS FEVER... Echuca and Shepparton United went head to head last week with Echuca winning against Shepparton United by a comfortable margin. Photo: Will Adams

MOOROOPNA V ECHUCA Mooroopna is in danger of slipping out of the top six if it can’t overcome premiership favourite Echuca at home today. The Murray Bombers win, meaning the Cats will most likely drop out of the top six. Tip: Echuca.

BENALLA V EUROA Euroa will be looking to round of its home and away season and sew-up third spot on the ladder when it makes the short trip down the road to Benalla. The Pies come into the contest in good form having knocked over Mooroopna at home, while the Saints were beaten by Shepparton last Sunday. Tip: Euroa.

VSHEPPARTONpreviewsFootballR18UNITEDSEYMOUR

TATURA V MANSFIELD Mansfield will be on a mission to round out what has been a fantastic home-andaway season when it takes on Tatura. The Eagles have been in strong form of late, scoring two important wins over Mooroopna and Kyabram in the past fortnight to put themselves in the box seat to win the all-important double chance. Tip: Mansfield.

KYABRAM SHEPPARTONV SWANS This is a danger game for the sixth placed Kyabram. In the end, I think the Bombers have too much to play for and should win. And, they will have to wait for other results to drop to see if they have kept their place in the top six. Tip: Kyabram.

Seymour Football club has it all to play when it comes to the home football to take on the bottom of the ladder Shepparton United. The Lions must win and then wait to see how other results fall to see if it jumps into the top six. I think, the Lions get the job comfortably and I do believe they will qualify for the September action. Tip: Seymour.
