A mum
like no other There is nothing that beats your loving hugs, Or emergency kiss surgery when I get scrapes and bumps. You are the best and mean the world to me, And I love how you just let me be me. It’s funny when you laugh if I close my eyes and hide, But seeing your smile again when you find me warms me inside. I might say nan nan a lot but there is nobody I love more, And there is one big thing that I know for sure, You are a mum like no other.
ENTICING AND DELICIOUS… From left, Bill & Beat’s front of house staff, Luke McLeod, kitchen staff, Taryn Collins, front of house staff, Alice Shellie and owner, Chris Buzza are excited to be offering a new menu for patrons this Mother’s Day. Photo: Katelyn Morse.

The brilliance of books is making a comeback
THERE’S nothing quite like picking up a book, physically flicking through the pages and soaking up that unique book smell. The nostalgic joy and physical sensation of reading a real book is something a Kindle or e-Book cannot replicate and the staff from Collins Booksellers has noticed many avid readers recently returning to the cherished original form. Having proudly worked at Collins Booksellers for nearly a dozen years and witness to much change throughout that time, owners Joe and Helen Sofra have kept the region reading through a rollercoaster time for the business – an absolutely admirable feat! Their humble Maude Street store has remained fully stocked throughout the years, adapting with the times and adjusting what’s in stock to suit customer’s needs. Just in time for Mother’s Day, the current Collins’ catalogue is stocked with great ideas to treat mum; from hard-cover cookbooks, through to the latest best-sellers in fiction. “We are noticing more and more that people are returning to books from the world of e-Books,” Helen explained,

MUM’S THE WORD… Collins Booksellers owners, Joe and Helen Sofra would like to wish a warm Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there. Photo: Katelyn Morse.
“There’s just something about the feel and look of an actual book that keeps people returning. “Thanks so much to all of our customers who have supported us over the years and a big Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there.” Consider giving mum the gift of reading this Mother’s Day and call in to Collins Booksellers at 262 Maude Street, Shepparton, or give the store a call on 5822 2679.
FOLLOWING the success of a film event held in October last year that helped raised funds for a patient bed lifter and blood pressure machine, the GV Health Extended Care Auxiliary is once again holding a special film event. The funds raised will help to go toward GV Health’s Grutzner House and Mary Coram wings, making it the perfect gift for Mother’s Day. You and your mum can sit back and enjoy a screening of ‘The Wife,’ starring Oscar nominated Glen Close at Village Cinemas Shepparton on Thursday, May 9. There will be a box lunch at 12 noon, with the film starting at 1pm. Tickets are $25 and raffle tickets are $1. Tickets are available at Mimma’s Hairdressing, Wyndham Mall or by phone on 5831 8220 or from members and Lolene James by phoning 5821 9182.
