Rome is ready to welcome the 30th edition of the Acea Run Rome The Marathon, a great moment of shared joy focused on sport, the passion for running, and, together, the beauty of our city.
This year again, the marathon will be a great peaceful invasion, with an expected participation of 50,000 enthusiasts from around the world, ready to experience the excitement of running through the streets and squares of Rome, starting from the Imperial Forums, alongside the Colosseum, and passing through some of the many urban spaces regenerated for the Jubilee.
For this 30th edition, four days of events have been organized around the marathon, open to the entire city, with the Expo Village being the heart of the activities, with a particular focus on sustainability and solidarity.
Rome aims to be more beautiful, attractive, and inclusive also through sport, which is healthy competition, but above all, a moment for dialogue, an opportunity for collective growth and socialization.
Happy marathon to all!
A great moment of shared joy focused on sport, the passion for running, and, together, the beauty of our city “ Sport is a powerful tool for bringing people together and raising awareness on health and prevention issues “
The 30th edition of the Rome Marathon will be a social and sporting celebration, with over 50,000 people running through the city streets over the weekend and experiencing the free village. We will set a new record for registrations, with more than half of the participants coming from abroad, for a race that is also growing in terms of quality. The projected economic impact on the territory is estimated at 75 million euros, an increase from the 50 million in 2024. We are pleased with these numbers, which confirm how road races in Rome are a fundamental asset for the city. The potential is immense: no other place in the world boasts a course like ours, an open-air museum. We want to continue to support the Acea Run Rome The Marathon more and more, as it drives our economy and tourism. Moreover, it holds great charitable value with numerous solidarity and social initiatives, because sport is a powerful tool for bringing people together and raising awareness on health and prevention issues.

The Acea Run Rome The Marathon 2025 once again proves to be an extraordinary event, continuously growing and evolving in every aspect. This year, we are setting a new record for marathon registrations, further consolidating the Italian record achieved last year, along with an ever-increasing number of participants in the Acea Water Fun Run and the Acea Run4Rome Relay, for a total of 50,000 people running through the streets of the Capital.
The event’s growth is also reflected in the involvement of the corporate and institutional world: over 30 partner companies and more than 80 entities, including sponsors, exhibitors, and charities, will bring the Expo Village to life, creating an increasingly solid network and a valuable ecosystem around the marathon.
As Infront, we are proud to have contributed not only to the organization and commercialization of the event but also to the design and implementation of activations tailored for our partners, expanding our service portfolio and offering innovative, customized solutions. This approach has led to a 34% revenue increase, with 20% coming from sponsorships, demonstrating the value that the Run Rome The Marathon brand holds on the international stage.
Another key element of this edition is the global media coverage, with a live broadcast on Sky Sport and transmission in over 60 countries, allowing an ever-wider audience to experience the energy of this iconic event up close.

It is the largest sporting event ever in Italy’s history, where professional athletes and amateurs actively participate. This is the 30th Acea Run Rome The Marathon, a sporting event like no other. We have raised the bar, thinking and dreaming big for this Acea Run Rome The Marathon celebrating thirty years: we have invited all marathon runners from around the world to run and discover Rome, the most beautiful city in the world. Our participants are not ordinary runners; they are modern Gladiators running through history, fearless, strong, and relentless. Only in Rome is a runner a true gladiator. On Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16, over 50,000 of you will gather for two days of events, with the Acea Water Fun Run moved to Saturday morning, just like in the world’s largest marathons. This way, everyone, even marathoners, can participate and have fun with their families. And then Sunday will be an all-out explosion of joy, pure adrenaline for those like us who love running and all the fantastic sensations that come with it. Once again, we have brought Rome to the world with the organization of the Get Ready On Tour, which adds to the six official Get Ready events in Rome, now so popular they feel like real races. Then there’s the Expo Village, which will be even more beautiful and open for an extra day, and the great celebration with music, games, and much more will take place over two consecutive days at Circus Maximus, where, for the first time in history, the marathon will arrive. Thirty years happen only once, and we have organized a great birthday party with thousands of guests arriving from 126 nations. Run, have fun, Rome is ready to welcome and embrace you, as always and more than ever. Acea Run Rome The Marathon is you!
Atielle President
Thirty years! Truly a remarkable birthday for the Capital’s marathon.
Thirty years have passed since that March in 1995, and Acea Run Rome The Marathon is becoming more important and bigger every year. Yet, the emotions are as strong now as they were back then. Rome is a unique stage in the world, an extraordinary setting to run through such a historic city.
I wish all participants the best of luck, more than 50,000 of you this year over two days of events. Run fast, smile, have fun. March 16, 2025, will be a great day, and we will all be together. Happy Birthday, Marathon!
Italia Marathon Club President
Happy Birthday, Rome Marathon!
30 years of great history, with the latest ones as Acea Run Rome The Marathon, where we are reaching record-breaking participation numbers. Over two days of races, more than 50,000 people will start, almost 30,000 in the marathon alone, including many foreigners who come to Rome to run and visit the most beautiful city in the world. The course has been renewed once again this year, even faster, starting as always from the Imperial Forums and, for the first time, finishing at the Circus Maximus. A special thanks to the 2,500 volunteers along the route, they are the face of the marathon. My gratitude, as always, goes to everyone, especially the technical offices of Roma Capitale, the Municipal Police, the Army, the Guardia di Finanza, the Air Force, the State Police, and the Carabinieri, who all work together to make the marathon possible. Rome is waiting for you, let’s celebrate this birthday together! Good luck to everyone.

Avery warm welcome to the 30th anniversary edition of the Acea Run Rome Marathon, one of the most scenic races on the road running calendar.
There are very few things that are more iconic than running a marathon through the streets of the Eternal City of Rome. Marathon running has enjoyed a rapid increase in popularity over the last couple of years, attracting thousands of runners from all over the world. Last year, more than 18,000 runners from 110 nations competed in the Rome Marathon – the largest mass participation event in Italian sports history. This year, 30,000 participants from some 110 countries are expected to take on the iconic marathon, which starts at the Via dei Fori Imperiali facing the Colosseum, passing through historic landmarks like the Vittoriano, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Spanish Steps, before looping back for the finish line at the Circus Maximum.
As we celebrate three decades of this historic race, I would like to congratulate the organisers including the local municipality, sponsors and the people of Rome for reaching this special milestone. The breathtaking scenery and your warm hospitality are certainly why runners from all walks of life return each year. To everyone competing, I wish you all the very best. I hope you achieve the personal goals that you have set for yourself.
STEFANO MEI Fidal President
At the center of the world, at the center of running, at the center of sport. The record numbers expected for the 30th edition, and a course unmatched anywhere on the planet for history and beauty, confirm the Acea Run Rome The Marathon as one of the great European and global marathons. Once again, a river of enthusiasts will fill the streets of the Capital, in one of the most beautiful postcards for the entire athletics family, healthier and full of hope for the future like never before. As the Italian Athletics Federation, we can only congratulate the organizers for the quality standards reached by the event and for the ability to combine innovation, sports culture, tourism, and well-being in a winning mix that is increasingly suited to the needs of enthusiasts and stakeholders. Our support will never be lacking, with the hope that each participant will push their boundaries, discovering, why not, something more about themselves in this journey called the marathon.
GIOVANNI

The eternal charm of the Capital envelops the unparalleled beauty of the marathon in uniqueness. The 30th edition of the event, in the Jubilee year, is imbued with special significance and aims to renew the emotions of athletic competition, infused with the solemn tradition of Rome’s most iconic landmarks, with the start and finish at the Imperial Forums.
Over 42 km of breathless excitement await, with participation – for the first time – limited to 30,000 marathon runners and a total of 50,000 participants across the various initiatives promoted. The glorious history is evoked with a gaze set toward the future, a message of rare effectiveness to ignite the enthusiasm of young people and strengthen the sense of belonging among all enthusiasts.
Another great chapter in sports history will be written, one for the annals, to reinforce the importance of the values that have always defined the movement. Wishing everyone a great ‘Acea Run Rome The Marathon’!
BARBARA MARINALI Acea President
It is with great enthusiasm that Acea once again supports the Rome Marathon, now in its 30th edition. This extraordinary event will welcome over 50,000 participants across four days of activities, blending a passion for sports with the beauty of our magnificent city.
Acea Run Rome The Marathon is not just a race; it is a unique event that brings together athletes from all over the world, running along a course that winds through the city’s streets, past iconic monuments and breathtaking locations that make this experience unforgettable.
The Acea Group firmly promotes sports, which are essential for both individual and collective well-being just like water, an element that defines us and has always defined Rome. Running, moreover, is the sport that best represents sustainability, a principle that inspires Acea’s business strategies at every level.
LORENZO BENFENATI
Project Manager Acea Run Rome The Marathon
On the eve of Italy’s most iconic marathon, we are happy to announce a new record: in participants, events, partnerships, solidarity, and passion. The Acea Run Rome The Marathon 2025 is increasingly extraordinary and continues to grow in every aspect. The event not only confirms Rome as one of the world’s capitals of running but also as an ideal platform for business and charitable initiatives, thanks to the contribution of numerous non-profit organizations that find in the Run Rome The Marathon an important opportunity for awareness and fundraising.
A key aspect of this edition is the growing focus on sustainability. We have worked to make the marathon more and more green, introducing the use of 360,000 water cartons at refreshment points, thus reducing the environmental impact compared to traditional plastic bottles. Furthermore, along the race course, over 5 km of advertising banners will be installed, all made with sustainable materials, another step forward towards an event that is increasingly responsible and environmentally conscious.
The Acea Run Rome The Marathon is not just a sports competition, but a moment of gathering, a driver for tourism, and a unique opportunity to experience Rome in a special way. We work with passion so that each edition can be an increasingly engaging, accessible, and sustainable experience, leaving the city and participants with a legacy that goes beyond the race day.
LUCA PANCALLI
President of the Paralympic Italian Committee
This year, thirty years of the Rome Marathon deserve a special tribute and heartfelt wishes.
A classic that has now become part of the international competitive calendar, a fixed appointment for about 30,000 marathoners striving to improve times and performances that fill the annals of Run Rome The Marathon. Rome, with its spectacular and demanding course, is both godmother, host, and backdrop to an event that each year also welcomes athletes with disabilities.
To all of them, I wish an exciting competition, full of competitive spirit and the desire to break every category record: wheelchair athletes, visually impaired and blind runners will all be at the starting line with a mission to accomplish—reaching the finish line in the shortest time possible, also thanks to the support of pushers and guide athletes.
All of them will once again demonstrate that sport is truly a common home that knows no distinctions or differences, a tool capable of giving everyone the opportunity to play their game alongside others, starting from their own potential, finding wellbeing and self-esteem. May the great celebration that we all await every year be repeated in Rome, among the competitive race, amateur race, and collateral events: a Capital of sport and hospitality, a city of culture that, through occasions like this, creates culture, becomes a manifesto of equal opportunities and inclusion, and gives life to an unstoppable movement capable of raising the level of civility of the entire country.

THE GLADIATOR II FILM GIVES BIRTH TO #RUNLIKEAGLADIATOR, THE EPIC FEAT OF MARATHON RUNNERS
The only marathon in the world to collaborate with The Gladiator II
ROME – The spirit of a gladiator is something you are born with, but you need the right motivation to confirm it, and the streets of Rome, where millennia of events have left extraordinary legacies, are the only place in the world where this confirmation can be achieved.
History and art parade before your eyes, your steps retrace roads along which epic events once echoed. The 30th Acea Run Rome The Marathon on Sunday, March 16, 2025, is the perfect and unique context in the world to become a gladiator for a day, a gladiator for life, forever.
THE GLADIATOR II AND THE 30th ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON – The path of the gladiators of the 30th Acea Run Rome The Marathon is traced by the film “The Gladiator II”, released in Italian cinemas on November 14th,
with EAGLE PICTURES, 24 years after “The Gladiator”. Both films are directed by Ridley Scott, a master at turning his works into true cinematic masterpieces. “The Gladiator II” also boasts an exceptional cast, including Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and Joseph Quinn.
The 30th anniversary of Acea Run Rome The Marathon begins with a new chapter in the history of Rome and its marathon, thanks to “The Gladiator II”, which once again ignites the Colosseum with its battles. It is precisely from here that the inspiration and collaboration leading to this year’s image, #RunLikeAGladiator, were born, where the modern gladiator is, indeed, the marathon runner who conquers Rome step by step, with sweat, effort, emotions, and the determination of those who have run and will run in the Eternal City for 42.195 kilometers.
ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON WINS THE BEA AWARD AS THE BEST ITALIAN SPORTS EVENT
Another great success for Run Rome The Marathon, which won the BEA, Best Events Awards, as the Best Italian Sports Event of 2024.
ROMA – Acea Run Rome The Marathon, the record-breaking race, has been awarded as the best Italian sports event at the BEA, Best Events Awards, the Italian festival of events and live communication held at the Ennio Morricone Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome.
Acea Run Rome The Marathon, held on March 17, 2024, communicated the event better than anyone else in Italy, a tremendous sporting event that went beyond the ‘sports’ standards, turning it into, first in the imagination and then in the reality of race day, a complete event, a cultural phenomenon, a celebration of a healthy lifestyle, a festival for participants, for Rome, and for its citizens.
The satisfaction of Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sport, and Tourism of Roma Capitale: “This recognition certifies the growth of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, the Rome marathon, increasingly a reference point for running enthusiasts from all over the world. I congratulate the organizers and all the staff. The potential is enormous, and I am con-
vinced that, year after year, this event will continue to improve, with greater numbers and a higher impact on the city, estimated to be 75 million euros in 2025, 25 million more than in 2024.”
“Winning the BEA is something amazing,” said an enthusiastic Daniele Quinzi, Marketing Director of the Gruppo Corriere dello Sport – Stadio, who has been leading the communication of Acea Run Rome The Marathon for five years now. – “It’s a success for the entire communication team and, in general, for all the staff of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, which gives us great satisfaction. A strategy made of quality, countless details put into focus and developed, all with the highest professional level. We have combined marketing and communication with the powerful emotions experienced while running a marathon.”
Lorenzo Benfenati, Project Manager of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, added: “A prestigious recognition, a significant acknowledgment of esteem that immensely gratifies us. We have created a project that creates synergies and collaborations with the main stakeholders of the city.”

ROME –The atmosphere is filled with emotions that only a special anniversary in a unique city like Rome can offer, with just a few days left until the 30th Acea Run Rome The Marathon on Sunday, March 16, athletes are already pushing to link their name permanently with that of the Eternal City.
ROLL OF HONOR
In the history of the Rome Marathon, now at its 30th edition, eight flags have waved. In the men’s category, Africa has recorded 26 victories, 15 for Kenya, 10 for Ethiopia, and 1 for Morocco. Europe has defended itself with Italian athletes who have won three times with famous names: Stefano Baldini in 1998, Ruggero Pertile in 2004, and Alberico Di Cecco in 2005, the last to raise the tricolor.
In the women’s category, Ethiopia leads the ranking with 11 victories, followed by Italy with 6, Kenya with 6, Russia with 3, and 1 for Algeria, Estonia, and Ukraine. For Italy, Franca Fiacconi was the first to win in 1998, followed by the late Maura Viceconte. From 2001 to 2004, Maria Guida, Maria Cocchetti, Gloria Marconi, and Ornella Ferrara won a quartet of victories.
MEN’S RACE
The record to beat is 2:06:24, held by Kenyan Asbel Rutto, who created great excitement in the last edition by crossing the finish line after a solo final. Sixteen runners are vying
to write their name in the event’s roll of honor. There are ten athletes from Kenya, three Italian representatives, two from Ethiopia, and one each from Morocco, Rwanda, and Uganda. A fixed appointment for the ‘King of Rome’ Giorgio Calcaterra (Calcaterra Sport Asd) and the Italian Daniele Meucci (CS Esercito), with local athlete Luca Parisi (SS Lazio Atl. Leggera) also in the race.
The pace-setter is Ethiopian Adeledelew Mamo, who has the credentials to set a new course record, having clocked 2:05:12 to secure second place in Seville in 2022. Behind him is Kenyan Luke Kiprop, who impressed in the last Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:06:39.
The Italian flag will be held high by Daniele Meucci (CS Esercito), one of Italy’s strongest athletes with an extensive career spanning two decades, participating in three Olympic Games: London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, and most recently, Paris 2024. He won gold at the European Marathon Championships in Zurich 2014, three European Championship medals, one silver in the 10,000 meters at Helsinki 2012, and two bronze medals in the 10,000 meters at Barcelona 2010 and the half marathon in Amsterdam 2016. Meucci has also won 10 national titles across five different disciplines. His marathon personal best is 2:07:49, achieved in Seville in 2024, where he finished 11th.
The runner breathing down his neck is Kenyan Brian Kipsang,

Just a few seconds behind are his fellow Kenyans Fredrick Kibii, third at the 2023 Hannover Marathon with a personal best of 2:08:09, and Joshua Kogo, another familiar face who finished sixth in this race in 2022 and recorded his best time in 2023 in Vienna, taking fourth place with an excellent 2:08:39. Moroccan Mohamed Chaaboud, who holds a recent personal best of 2:09:20 from his victory in the 2024 Aveiro Marathon, will also be in the mix, as will Kenyan Samwel Kiptoo, who secured his personal best of 2:09:58 last year in Rome, finishing sixth.
Close behind are fellow Kenyans Robert Ngeno (2:10:16 from Buenos Aires 2023, third place) and Paul Tiongik (2:10:25 from Castellon 2022), who also finished seventh here in Rome in 2024. Tiongik will have to face compatriot Hammington Cherop, whose best performance came in 2023 in Mersin, where he finished fourth with a time of 2:10:58.
Also at the starting line is David Barmasai Tumo, eighth in the 2012 Boston Marathon and fourth at the 2011 World Marathon Championships, with a time of 2:07:18 from the 2011 Dubai Marathon and a victory in the 2023 Singapore Marathon.
The Kenyan Josphat Kipkoech Bett and Ugandan debutant Samuel Kibet, who brings a half marathon personal best of 60:50 from the 2024 Lille Half Marathon, will round out the field. The Italian flag will also be defended by Luca Parisi (SSD Lazio Atl. Leggera), fresh off his victory at the 2024 Pisa Marathon and 12th in Rome in 2022.
A special mention goes to Giorgio Calcaterra (Calcaterra Sport ASD), the three-time world champion in the 100 km ultramarathon, who has participated in numerous editions of the Roman event. Calcaterra is always eagerly awaited and adored by the public, with an endless collection of podium finishes, including 12 consecutive wins at the 100 km of Passatore and a personal best of 2:13:15 from the 2000 Ferrara Marathon.
WOMEN’S RACE
For the women, the record is set at 2:22:52, achieved by Ethiopian Kebede Megertu Alemu in 2019. There are 7 Kenyan women and 3 Ethiopian athletes at the start. The highest-ranked is Kenyan Betty Chepkwony, returning to defend her title after her victory in 2023, where she set her personal best of 2:23:02. Behind her is compatriot Rebecca Kangogo, second in Vienna in 2017 with a personal best of 2:24:25, but she will need to be wary of Ethiopian Maeregu Hayelom Shegae, winner in Ottawa last year, who recorded 2:24:42 in Kosice in 2001.
The chase group is led by Kenyans Lilian Jebitok and Lilian Jelagat, whose personal bests of 2:27:13 and 2:27:39 earned them third place at the 2024 Hannover Marathon and victory at the 2022 Munster Marathon, respectively.
Not far behind are Kenyan Euliter Tanui, with a time of 2:28:20 from the 2022 San Sebastian Marathon, and compatriot Martha Akeno, who has a personal best of 2:29:00 from the 2022 Miami Marathon. The rear of the pack includes Ethiopian Selam Gebre Fente and Kenyan Beatrice Jepkemei.

RUN IN ROME ALONG STREETS WHERE HISTORY ECHOES
Rome, now, today, right now, as two thousand years ago. Rome the invincible and eternal.
The city of Fellini’s “La dolce vita”, where you fall in love with every step and where every step can make you feel like a glorious marathon runner. Rome awaits you: majestic, noisy, colourful, and in a state of celebration. Rome is unique. With the spine-tingling romantic sunset at Janiculum Hill and the taciturn sunrise over Lungotevere. 42.195 km imbued with art and history, of cobblestones stepped on in the past by Roman gladiators with battered sandals and today trampled by hundreds of thousands of marathon runners who have already raced there in the last 28 years. These are runners who became real marathon runners in Rome. Eternal ones. Starting from the Colosseum, they have wept along the Imperial Fora on the first kilometre of a journey called the Marathon. And then they shed warm tears again on arrival, because the excitement of winning a medal is always irrepressible. Along the way, every marathon runner has come across monuments that only Rome – and no other place in the world –can offer, emotions that can only be experienced in the Eternal City. The road rolls by, asphalt and cobblestones, maritime pines and the applause of thousands of fans along the roads that run alongside the open-air museum you can find only here. Those who run in Rome make history, run amid history, and retrace history and becomes a Gladiator.
Rome’s marathon through history, from 1906. The winners and its evolution up to today’s Run Rome the Marathon.
The marathon in the Italian capital has a strong tradition. We could go back over a century to 2 April 1906, when the Emilian Dorando Pietri won the marathon, crossing the finishing line in Piazza di Siena. We could go back 60 years, to that magical night of the 1960 Olympics in Rome, when Ethiopian Abebe Bikila opened the season of African marathon runners, running the whole race barefoot. He became a legend, his stride along Appia Antica illuminated by torches is pure athletics history, as is the photo of him winning on arrival at the Arch of Constantine.
More gold medals again, this time at the World Championships on 6 September 1987 with the success of Kenyan-Japanese Douglas Wakiihuri, a great icon of world running. In 2010, in memory of Abebe Bikila, Ethiopian Siraj Gena took off his shoes 300m from the finish line and triumphed barefoot.
The marathon we all know today originated in 1995 with the Italia Marathon Club and in 2011 was awarded the prestigious IAAF Gold Label recognition. In 2019 the organisation was entrusted to FIDAL, and since 2020 there has been a new organising committee formed by Infront, Corriere dello Sport – Stadio, Italia Marathon Club and Atielle Roma. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the edition planned for 29 March 2020 could not take place; with just a few weeks to go before the start, it had to be cancelled on account of a global lockdown that stopped it from being held. At the
Alba Edition Special Race on Sunday, 19 September 2021, the mission of heightening emotions was entrusted, a goal achieved thanks to the departure at dawn, with the sun’s rays illuminating the monuments, a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to experience an exciting page of history, to the notes of the Tenor Carlo Asogna and to the thousands of marathon runners who made their steps and their joy felt, leaving a mark of their passage in the Eternal City forever. In 2022, the victory was achieved by Ethiopian Fikre Bekele Tefera, who at the same time achieved what was a new race record, followed in this feat by the second and third place winners.
Even for women, there is great satisfaction in having shown that the route is among the smoothest ones on Italian soil: the first two women, in fact, achieved the first two best performances on Italian soil in 2022.
2023 will be remembered for the National Anthem sung live by Tenor Carlo Asogna, the 40 entertainment events with games, shows and music along the way, the magic and amazement of the flyover of the Tricolour Arrows combined with the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Italian Air Force while the marathon runners waited for the start, religiously lined up at the starting line between the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums.
The latest edition saw the victory of Kenyan Asbel Rutto who, after a solo race, crossed the finish line improving by about 3’ and setting a new race record with a time of 2h06’24”. In the women’s category, Kenyan Ivyne Lagat swept away the competition by surprising everyone by winning in 2h24’35”, recording a new personal best of over 17’. Both athletes also achieved the best performance on Italian soil for 2024. In the latest editions, over 115 countries have participated, while in the history of the Rome Marathon, now in its 30th edition, eight flags have flown. In the men’s category, Africa has scored 26 victories, 15 for Kenya, 10 for Ethiopia and 1 for Morocco. Europe defended itself with Italian athletes who won three times with famous names: Stefano Baldini in 1998, Ruggero Pertile in 2004 and Alberico Di Cecco in 2005, the last to raise the tricolor. In the women’s ranking, Ethiopia leads the ranking with 11 victories, followed by Italy and Kenya with 6, Russia with 3 and 1 each for Algeria, Estonia and Ukraine. For Italy, Franca Fiacconi was the first to win in 1998, immediately followed by the late Maura Viceconte. From 2001 to 2004 Maria Guida, Maria Cocchetti, Gloria Marconi and Ornella Ferrara achieved a poker of victories. The men’s record for the race belongs to Kenyan Asbel Rutto who in 2024 arrived at the finish line at the Fori Imperiali in 2h06’24’’, while the fastest ever was Kebede Megertu Alemu (Ethiopia) who ran in 2h22’52’’ in April 2019.

HOW MANY STORIES AT THE ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON WHERE DETERMINATION AND PASSION MEET AT THE FINISH LINE
Serena Banzato, Mattia Martinello, Annalisa Minetti, Claudio Palmulli, Antonio Rao and Mauro Tomasi
ROME – It’s an electrifying moment, with preparations drawing to a close and the 50,000 participants making their way toward the Eternal City, ready to conquer it and be conquered by it, to breathe in its history and become a part of it. 50,000 hearts, 100,000 legs chasing steps to leave on the cobblestones, to line up one after another, until reaching a unique finish line in the world that turns every marathon runner into a gladiator, forever.
Running the Acea Run Rome The Marathon for fun, for passion, to support a friend, for solidarity, for a personal challenge, for a bet against someone else, to redeem oneself from a disappointment, to adopt a new and healthy habit, but also to tell the world one’s own story, which sometimes feels like one from a novel.
A close look at the list of participants highlights names worth paying attention to. Among those at the start line of the Acea Run Rome The Marathon will be Dean Karnazes, Mattia Martinello, Annalisa Minetti, Claudio Palmulli, Antonio Rao, Mauro Tomasi, and Richard Whitehead.
SERENA BANZATO
A psychotherapist and mother, Serena Banzato is a runner and triathlete with many achievements. In 2018, during the Camino de Santiago, Serena was struck by a rare and dangerous infection in her foot, which led her to have a phantom
limb. After months of rehabilitation, Serena returned to the racing fields to relive the emotions of the finish line. Serena will be at the start of the Acea Run Rome The Marathon as a pacer for the 3h45’ mark.
MATTIA MARTINELLO
Born in 1996, Mattia Martinello (United Trail&Running), in 2014, after a fall near the Colosseum, found himself in a coma and faced the aftermath of a long recovery from cerebral palsy. Mattia started over, from having to breathe, eat, and walk, to becoming a member of the Italian National Football Team for the 7-a-side football. Ten years after the accident that marked him forever, Mattia returns to Rome to reclaim what this city took from him and to celebrate his return in the greatest way possible: running to close a circle and face the ghosts of the past, transforming them into strength. With him are his family, friends, and his partner Francesca, who will share every step of this endeavor. Together, they will cross the city like modern gladiators, ready to claim their greatest victory.
ANNALISA MINETTI
Singer-songwriter, model, writer, TV presenter, author, actress, and voice actress, the paralympic athlete Annalisa Minetti won the bronze medal in the 1500 meters at the London Paralympics in 2012, setting the world record for the visually impaired category and winning the bronze medal at the 2012 European Paralympic Athletics Championships. In 2013, An-
nalisa achieved the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships for the visually impaired in the 800 meters, setting a new championship record, and later in 2015, she took on longer distances, winning the gold medal and the best European performance in the T11 category in the 42 km at the Rome Marathon. A friend of the Acea Run Rome The Marathon, Annalisa Minetti has run in a relay with a special team of visually impaired athletes and also served as a pacer, emphasizing the importance of sport as a light toward a goal of redemption for those with special abilities.
CLAUDIO PALMULLI
Among the thousands of participants, this year also stands out the presence of Claudio Palmulli, 39 years old, an athlete with spastic tetraparesis, who will face the race with a manual wheelchair and a regular bib, alongside his inseparable running partner Monica Cattaneo, 57 years old, who suffers from bilateral neurofibromatosis type two. This year, the “Strange Couple” – as they proudly call themselves – will run with an even more significant goal: to represent and give a voice to all those who cannot run. For those who are forced to stop, for those who cannot take part in a race like this, for those who would like to feel part of a great endeavor but cannot physically do so. Claudio and Monica will do it for them, to show that every step – or every push on the wheelchair – can become a message of hope and redemption.
ANTONIO RAO
The 92-year-old Antonio Rao (Purosangue Athl. Club), born in Calabria and adopted by Rome, is a marathoner driven by deep passion and extraordinary abilities, which have seen him conquer many finish lines and the world record in his category at the Acea Run Rome The Marathon in 2023, when he crossed the finish line in 6h14’44” at a pace of 8’53”/ km (6.8 km/h). Antonio has become a symbol for the strength with which he trains, for his ability to have fun, and for always wanting to improve. There could not have been a better stage for setting a world record than Rome, which welcomes a Gladiator among the most illustrious figures of the event.
MAURO TOMASI
At the start line is the outsider Mauro Tomasi (Atl. Alto Garda e Ledro), a Paralympic athlete in the T51 category who relies on the strength of only one limb, his right arm, always on track with his special wheelchair, with which he will eventually circle the globe. On August 15, 2000, at just 32 years old, Mauro had a tragic motorcycle accident and woke up to discover that he would no longer walk and could not use his left arm either. From 2012 until today, he has completed 80 marathons and some ultramarathons, and for Mauro, this marks a return to the streets of Rome, after participating in previous editions, to once again show that limits are only in our minds, and it’s up to us to overcome them.
THERE ARE 244 OFFICIAL PACERS
We are proud to introduce the Gladiators Team, the official pacers of the Acea Run Rome
The Marathon
The numbers speak for themselves: over 1,500 applications from all over the world to become an official pacer for Acea Run Rome
The Marathon. More than 200 experienced runners have been selected to guide participants, from the fastest to the slowest, all the way to Circo Massimo. Support is also provided for those completing the marathon with fast walking.
Once again, there is strong international representation, with more than 50% of pacers coming from 23 different countries.
On average, each pacer has completed 50 marathons, and together they have run over 10,000 marathons.
The team is selected and led by Federica Romano, who has also chosen 15 ‘Buddy Pacers,’ a project that pairs runners with no prior pacer experience with the official team.

RRTM is the only marathon in the world to have introduced BUDDY PACER, providing for the support of aspiring pacers (= runners with little or no experience as a pacer) to the team of official pacers. HERE ARE THE EXPECTED PACER TIMES
Shared commitment, guaranteed fun, solidarity and a dive into the magic of Rome, all this is Acea Run4Rome relay race
THE RELAY – In Acea Run4Rome Relay the team is the important thing. A team who is capable of accomplishing an achievement, of winning, of finishing the marathon with 4 people and doing the right thing because the soul of Acea Run4Rome is deeply solidary. To define Acea Run4Rome 5 words do the trick: solidarity, freedom, friendship, health, teamwork. To Acea Run4Rome means to the right thing for ourselves and for others and to really feel marathoners. But it is not just about running 10 km each. This is not just a race against the stopwatch or the opponents. It is more about supporting the No Profit Organizations that have joined the project and believing together, working as a team, in an ethical, social and concrete project. The fun is guaranteed, the excitement is multiplied by four because next to you there will be you teammates, who run for and with you, to win together. About 10 km each, it takes very little to make a even bigger party compared to the past, more music, activities in the exchanging point. To run Acea Run4Rome is an important goal but it can be done because divided we fall, united we stand, in order to follow your dreams, in one of the most suggestive
paths of the world, starting under the Collosseo and along the Fori Imperiali, passing by Vittoriano ad Piazza Venezia, Circo Massimo and Lungotevere, Castel Sant’Angelo, Viale della Conciliazione and Basilica di San Pietro.
The exchange points will always be a big party with shows and music, racing and fun is the watchword. The first stage is approximately 13.7 km, with the start from Via dei Fori Imperiali. First change point in Carlo Azeglio Ciampi (height Lungotevere Aventino (metro B, Circo Massimo about 600 m from the meeting point in Via San Greg orio). The second stage, the shortest, of about 8 km, will change in Viale Giulio Cesare, at the height of the Lepanto stop of the metro A.
The third fraction will run for 9.6 km to Viale XVII Olimpiade, about 1 km from the FM Station in Piazza Euclide where the party with music and activations will be a show of pure energy. The last stage, of about 10.9 km, will end at Circo Massimo, 600 m from the meeting point in Via San Gregorio.
The meeting point to cross the finish line all together is expected to be approximately 200 meters from the finish line.

VOLONTARI FUN VILLAGE DOUBLES AT CIRCO MASSIMO
Promoted by CSV Lazio in collaboration with Acea Run Rome the Marathon 2025, Volontari Fun Village doubles its dates: March 15th and 16th at the Circus Maximus More
than
100 associations and many activities to discover
Back at the Circus Maximus is the event promoted by CSV Lazio, Service Center for Volunteering, in collaboration with Acea Run Rome the Marathon 2025. For its 10th anniversary, the volunteer village doubles up: Saturday, March 15th for welcoming Acea Water Fun Run participants and Sunday, March 16th for the Acea Run Rome the Marathon 2025 runners. For those who want to run in solidarity, it is possible to do so by choosing one of the associations at this link.
Saturday, March 15th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday, March 16th from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, over 100 associations involved will enliven the Circus Maximus with many free and engaging activities for everyone, adults, children, and four-legged friends. An opportunity especially for families and supporters of the runners participating in the more challenging Sunday races, offering a fun and engaging way to wait for the arrival at the only marathon that features such a fun reception at the finish line.
CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE will have the opportunity to explore various activities, including cooking, beekeeping, gardening, and historical fencing workshops; clown therapy and art therapy, face painting, and entertainment; interactive games fo-
cused on recycling, rights, emotional management, digital awareness; activities to discover LIS, the Italian Sign Language. The much-loved giant wooden games, the 10-meter slide, and the puppet theater will be back. And then, circus performances and acrobatic dances. Children and their families will have access to a dedicated rest area, with a refreshment point for the little ones, a nursery, and a breastfeeding area.
FOR EVERYONE Volontari Fun Village offers something for everyone. For the more creative, there will be photography exhibitions and collective mosaics, various workshops - sewing, knitting, drawing, DIY - Etruscan drawing exercises, mandalas, clay, creative writing, even marble cutting simulations with ancient tools, and make-up sessions aimed at combating anxiety and depression. For those feeling sporty, there will be traditional games - like bocce or tug-of-war - virtual competitions with exercise bikes and treadmills, Tai Chi meditation, and dance games. For the more hi-tech, there will be immersive sports trials and virtual reality activities. Additionally, multisensory experiences and simulations focused on road safety, bullying, legality, disability, and low vision. There will be parenting workshops and role-playing
activities, anti-waste cooking, conflict management simulations, and a meeting with writer Giuseppe Bordi on the negative effects of excessive video game use on children. Those looking for a different break between activities can experience the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.
FOR HEALTH. Once again this year, activities dedicated to health will return to the Circus Maximus. These include demonstrations of life-saving maneuvers, pediatric first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and airway obstruction techniques for adults and children. Free medical information and consultations will be available for diabetes, hypertension, fibromyalgia syndrome, as well as specific rheumatological consultations for Lupus. Numerous free screenings will be offered, including blood sugar measurement, Doppler ultrasound, and ECG for children and teenagers aged 3 to 14. Blood donations, as well as free treatments of Reiki and Shiatsu, foot reflexology, and Bi Shin, will also be available.
FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS will have their own dedicated area with Shiatsu for dogs, pet therapy, free consultations with dog trainers, and demonstrations with rescue dogs alongside the State Police canine units. Also this year, the Water FunRun will be a Stracanina. It will be possible to purchase a bib for four-legged friends, who will find dedicated gadgets at the Circus Maximus.
CRAFTS from around the world, clothing, and various objects made by volunteers will be available. There will also be games and quizzes to participate in for the chance to win small prizes. Those who wish can contribute to the associations’ activities through small donations. There will be as many activities as there are associations. Just choose and build your own path among the stands until rea ching the final prize.
To relax between experiences, there will also be a refreshment point where you can eat something accompanied by music from Radio 105 on the main stage.
FROM THE STAGE In addition to entertainment from Radio 105, there will be ethnic and folk music performances by Nubras with their Balkan sound, the pizzica and tammurriata of Transumanze Popolari and Compagnia SciaraBallo, and the Roman tradition with the mandolins and guitars of Un pizzico di Note.
“For its tenth birthday, Volontari Fun Village joins the initiatives of this Jubilee 2025. The event organized by CSV Lazio thus becomes an opportunity for Rome and its citizens to experience and explore the many connections linking volunteerism, healthy and inclusive sports, and hospitality,” comments CSV Lazio president Cristina De Luca. “This tenth edition thus becomes an ideal stage of Vol.A in Rete, a pilgrimage hospitality project carried out by CSV Lazio and Forum Terzo Settore Lazio and promoted by the Civil Protection Department and the Department of Social Policies and Health at the Department of Social Policies and Health of Rome Capital. On March 15 and 16, at the Circus Maximus, volunteers will be waiting for the runners’ arrival and will offer citizens opportunities to have fun and reflect. Once again, they will be builders of hospitality that generates hospitality.”
CSV LAZIO ETS Service Center for Volunteering, for over twenty years, has been promoting, strengthening, supporting, and qualifying the presence and role of associations and volunteers within Third Sector Entities, with particular attention to Volunteer Organizations. It is present throughout Lazio with Volunteer Houses and Help Desks, which act as points of access to free services and places of meeting and exchange for volunteers and those
SUSTAINABILITY
THE JOURNEY TOWARDS CARBON NEUTRALITY CONTINUES
Acea Run Rome The Marathon, after only four years of activity (first edition in September 2021), is among the world’s leaders i n terms of environmental sustainability.
The numbers and certifications speak for themselves, as does the desire to protect planet Earth even during a mass event. The sustainability challenge launched in 2021 has already achieved several milestones, but not all of them, and therefore it is necessary to keep believing in it and to pursue it step by step because, with a strong sense of responsibility, much more can and must be done. The organizers, in collaboration with Sustainability Partner Circularity – a Benefit Corporation operating in the world of Circular Economy – have planned several initiatives for this upcoming edition and even for the years to come. In 2021, the ISO 20121 “Sustainable event management” certification was obtained, issued by the Certification Body Rina. Among the results achieved are the reduction of food waste, more sustainable mobility, reduction of CO2 emissions, better waste and resource management, the use of supplies from renewable sources, and communication efforts aimed at raising awareness among athletes. For example, the promotion of a mascot symbolizing biodiversity protection and the parallel presence of a plogging event to collect urban waste. In particular, thanks especially to the operational synergy of our team, in 2024 we reduced waste per participant by 40% (compared to 2023), going from 1.82 kg to 1.08 kg, and increased the collection of single-material plastic by 4% and paper and
cardboard by 13%. We recovered and donated 157 kg of food and 9,900 liters of beverages. Additionally, 619 kg of technical clothing left at the start were collected and donated to local associations.
Acea Run Rome The Marathon is lighter in its impact thanks to its partners Circularity, LifeGate, Banco Alimentare Roma, Rina, and Plastic Free Odv Onlus.
ECOPNEUS
Thanks to the support of Ecopneus, a non-profit consortium company involved in the management of End-of-Life Tires and one of the sustainability partners of the Marathon, the finish line for marathoners will be even more “green” this year. At the Circus Maximus, the platform characterizing the final stretch of the race for participants is made from recycled rubber obtained from the recycling of End-of-Life Tires, a tangible symbol of the circular economy. An innovative, high-performance, and sustainable surface, beneficial for the environment and for athletes who enjoy safety, comfort, and joint protection during the race. Not only the platform: thanks to Ecopneus, a removable field made of recycled rubber will also be set up in the Village at Circus Maximus, hosting competitions and spectacular shots.
ISO 20121
LIFEGATE
Acea Run Rome The Marathon joins the Water Defenders Alliance, the great alliance promoted by LifeGate to protect the health of our seas. Thanks to this initiative, a Seabin will be operational for two years at the Blue Dolphin of Fiumicino, a device capable of capturing 500 kilograms of floating waste per year, including plastics and microplastics up to 2 mm in diameter. Thanks to LifeGate, Infront chooses to provide the metropolitan city with a tangible and measurable solution, strengthening the sustainable identity of the marathon.

AND LARGO GOLDONI
Starting Friday, February 14th, two symbolic mementos of the Run Rome The Marathon, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary on March 16th, will be on display.
Acea Run Rome The Marathon hits the streets of the Capital from Friday, February 14th, thanks to the effective collaboration of Roma Capitale - Department of Sport, Tourism, Fashion, and Major Events, and Grandi Stazioni Retail S.p.A., who worked to make two installations a reality in two important points of the city: Termini Station, the primary and iconic gateway to the Capital as well as the most frequented station in Italy with over 550,000 visits per day, and the very central Largo Carlo Goldoni, at the end of Via dei Condotti at the corner with Via del Corso. Inside the display case, featuring the official logo of the event, is the beautiful commemorative t-shirt made of technical fabric and recycled yarn by Joma Sport, the event’s technical sponsor, which will be given as a gift to all participants, along with the medal that will be awarded to everyone who crosses the dream finish line. An installation that serves as a symbol: Acea Run Rome The Marathon is here, it’s something big, truly international, and the displayed t-shirt and medal ideally invite everyone to participate in the most attended sporting event in the history of Italian sports, because the marathon in Rome is highly inclusive and suitable for everyone.

GET READY FOR THE ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON A CELEBRATION OF 75 EVENTS
The Get Ready events of Acea Run Rome The Marathon were an extraordinary success, with participation beyond expectations. The energy and enthusiasm were contagious, creating a true wave of positivity that spread all over the world.
THE SIX OFFICIAL GET READY EVENTS
The first event took place on November 16, 2024, in Rome Eur, where runners joined together for a 10 km run.
The second training session followed on December 21, 2024, starting from the Olympic Stadium, where participants ran 15 km. The first 20 km training session was held on January 11, 2025, from the Stadio dei Marmi, the same location for the 25 km event on February 1, 2025.
The final session at Stadio dei Marmi was on February 16, 2025, with a 30 km run. The last of the six official events took place on Saturday, March 8, a special day coinciding with International Women’s Day. This training was dedicated to former marathoner and New York Marathon winner, Franca Fiacconi, who focused on a technical aspect of training.
The event also featured special guests, including the beloved King of Rome, multi-time ultramarathon champion Giorgio Calcaterra, alongside singer and Paralympic athlete Annalisa Minetti.
The support project for women, titled Rome is Woman, featured inclusive female-only training sessions led by former marathoner Lucilla Andreucci, aiming to inspire women to pursue their athletic dreams.
In addition to the six official events in Rome, expertly organized by local runner Federica Romano and event coach Marco Caponeri, which involved over 2,500 runners, there were 69 Get Ready on Tour events. These events spread across Italy, with 38 stages in 10 regions, and internationally, with 31 stops across 11 countries (UK, Scotland, Germany, South Africa, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Lithuania, France, Brazil, USA), attracting over 2,000 runners. The success of the international Get Ready on Tour quickly turned into an opportunity to recruit foreign athletes for the Pacer Gladiators group, resulting in 102 of the 244 pacers being from abroad.
The key to this success lies in the great freedom offered to participants: they could choose their running pace and follow the official Pacer Gladiators of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, even those participating in the fitwalking mode. The event was free to all, including runners in the Acea Run4Rome relay team of 4 people, or those joining the Acea Water Fun Run, of all levels—from the fastest experts to newcomers and fitwalkers. With fun, music, and free goodies, the Get Ready events became a great celebration, a wonderful tradition that, after five years, has reaped the rewards of its effort in the enthusiasm of thousands of runners.
TRAINING
In addition to the Get Ready, thanks to the advice of coach Marco Caponeri, everyone had the opportunity to have an official training plan to arrive prepared and in shape for the marathon. Acea Run Rome The Marathon has made training tables available, both generic and free, and personalized for all runners.
The athletes were able to follow 3 months of free or personalized training at the agreed cost of 29 euros starting on 17 December 2023 to arrive ready and prepared on 17 March 2024.
Coach Marco Caponeri with Franca Fiacconi
FRANCA FIACCONI
A true champion, with a winning character, a lioness in life and in sport. She ran her first marathon in 1989, when “women who practiced foot racing could be counted on the fingers of a few hands. Suffice it to say that female marathon was introduced only in the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984.”
“I was born in Rome and I ran my first 42km marathon right in my city, the emotion of being on the starting line of this race is always the same. To start in the shadow of the Colisseum inspires an incredible euphoria, a beautiful feeling of greatness and mystery”.

2° – Leave the headphones home. If you are one of those people who listens to music while running, change your habits for once. Listen to your body, your feelings, look around, hear the sounds, because this race will fill your heart.
3° – Leave home the stopwatch too. You are not coming to Rome to make a performance. ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON AND JUBILEE A STRONG BOND WITH THE VATICAN CITY
Patronage Granted by the Dicastery for Evangelization
2025 - A special year. For the Rome Marathon celebrating its thirtieth anniversary and for Rome itself, experiencing the Jubilee that will bring millions of pilgrims to the city. Combining these two events will make it an unmissable year.
The Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery, H.E. Monsignor Rino Fisichella, has officially granted Acea Run Rome The Marathon the Patronage of the Dicastery for Evangelization, making it part of the official events of the Jubilee 2025.
“I am pleased with this collaboration with Acea Run Rome The Marathon for the Jubilee,” emphasized the Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, H.E. Monsignor Rino Fisichella, responsible for organizing the Holy Year 2025. “The athletes, young and adult, who will run the marathon along Via della Conciliazione next March will be able to enjoy a unique beauty, and beauty is certainly a privileged way to experience God. Running through the streets of the Eternal City, they will be able to enhance the already incredible beauty of Rome.”
Runners from 110 countries around the world will have the
unique and emotional experience of running along Via della Conciliazione, Piazza Papa Pio XII, and Largo del Colonnato at the 16th kilometer of the race, with the breathtaking view of St. Peter’s Basilica right before their eyes.
These are unique locations of great global significance, places no other marathon in the world can boast, and this year, they are closed to any event not strictly related to the official Jubilee celebrations.
“The synergy with the Holy See during the Jubilee year will make the 30th edition of the Rome Marathon even more special, achieving a record number of participants. The passage of the course through the Vatican is a testament to the enormous potential of this event: there are no other races in the world that can offer such a remarkable route. It will be a celebration of sport and inclusion over the weekend, with many initiatives also aimed at social and charitable purposes,” stated Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Sports, Tourism, Fashion, and Major Events of Rome Capital.
AL MESE
ATHLETICA VATICANA SIX TEAMS FOR ACEA RUN4ROME
Collecting the feelings of affection of all the sporting people in the world, Athletica Vaticana embraces Pope Francis, its “coach of the heart”. Relaunching on the streets the fraternal, supportive and inclusive vision of sport as an experience of peace
The relationship with Athletica Vaticana, the official multi-sports association of the Holy See, remains as strong as ever. On Friday, March 7, the experience of service at the Caritas Canteen at Termini Station was lived with particular fervor alongside the pacer friends of the Rome Marathon. This is a continuous service throughout the year.
The “Marathon and Sports Mass” – in the Jubilee year – is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, at 6:00 PM in the beautiful and ancient Basilica of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli (Campidoglio) in the heart of Rome. At the end of the Mass, the “Marathon Runner’s Prayer” will also be recited – emphasizing the Marathon as a metaphor for life and the sporting experience – followed by the blessing of athletes and all those who, in various ways, are part of the sports world. The Celebration will be presided over by Archbishop Carlo Maria Polvani, Secretary of the Holy See’s Dicastery for Culture and Education, to whom the Pope has entrusted the care of sport. Numerous marathon-running priests from different countries will be present.
Once again, at the Expo Village, at the race pacers’ stand, there will be a case where all runners can write and leave a message responding to: “MY HEART RUNS FOR…”. All the runners’ thoughts will be brought to the Marathon Mass, where some will be read, and all will be placed before the altar and blessed.
RELAY WITNESS – There will be six teams from Athletica Vaticana running the Acea Run4Rome solidarity relay, named after the four Basilicas with the Holy Door (St. Peter’s, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and St. Paul), the Bull of Indiction of the Holy Year (Spes non confundit), and Pope Francis’ motto (Miserando atque eligendo). The fundraising efforts of these four special teams will benefit the association “Edoardo con noi – against diabetes.”
COPPA DEGLI ULTIMI – Also confirmed for this edition of the marathon, the Coppa degli Ultimi will be awarded to an athlete who embodies fundamental values such as inclusion, solidarity, resilience, and hope, a protagonist of a personal journey of rebirth also through sports. The Coppa degli Ultimi 2025 – created by the Roman artist Barbara Salvucci – has a reference to hope, as suggested by the Jubilee experience, with the ability to be reborn and start again always, even through sports.
With the Cup of the Last sport is a tool of rebirth

“Rome is woman” aims to support women in nurturing their sports dreams by starting to take care of themselves.
From thought to action, what better opportunity than taking part in the highly inclusive Get Ready sessions over the past months? These sessions were designed and personalized for all women: for those who have never run but want to start, for those who already run and want to do so in good company or improve, and for those who alternate between running and walking.
This space was coordinated by Roman athlete Lucilla Andreucci, a former marathon runner and middledistance runner. Her career boasts five Italian championship titles on track and road, along with 13 appearances in the national team. 50,000 RUNNERS AND 100,000 TOURISTS FOR AN ECONOMIC IMPACT OF 75 MILLION EUROS
A study by Sapienza University of Rome reveals the socioeconomic impact of the Acea Run Rome The Marathon 2024, generating 50 million euros for the area, expected to reach 75 million in 2025. Foreign participants stay between 3 nights and a week, spending from 500 to 5,000 euros. The Rome Marathon is confirmed each year as the most important sports tourism event in the Capital.
ROMA – In recent years, sporting events have received great attention for their ability to attract a new form of tourism, namely sports tourism, which is proving to be a major driver for local economies. From football to rugby, tennis to worldwide events like the Olympics, World Championships, and the largest marathons in the world, nations, cities, and towns compete to host events that generate not only economic returns but also, importantly, enhanced reputation. Sports tourism is recognized worldwide as high-quality tourism.
The latest edition of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, held on March 17, 2024, and dubbed the “marathon of records” for its total number of participants and foreign attendees, prompted the Department of Communication and Social Research of Sapienza University of Rome to conduct a statistical study. The aim was to demonstrate the economic impact on the city of Rome and its broader effects on the entire region and nation. The research also examined the environmental, social, and cultural impact of the event.
The study, entrusted to Italy’s most prestigious university and one of the most renowned worldwide, provided an analysis of the economic aspects of the marathon and a profile of its participants.
2024 – This was the marathon of records, with nearly 20,000 registered for the 42 km race and a total of 40,000 partici-
pants, including those in the solidarity relay Run4Rome and the Fun Run Stracittadina. With companions accompanying the marathon runners, it is estimated that around 80,000 people came to Rome for the event. In fact, Run Rome The Marathon, the largest marathon in Italy and one of the most famous in the world, is the single-day sporting event that brings the most economic benefit to the local public and private systems throughout Rome. The estimated economic impact generated for the Italian capital by this one-day event is 50 million euros.
2025 – The goal is clear: 30,000 participants in the 42.195 km marathon. Adding the participants expected for the Run4Rome Relay and the Fun Run Stracittadina (brought forward to Saturday), it’s predicted that around 50,000 people will be running in the Acea Run Rome The Marathon during the exceptional year of the 30th anniversary and the Jubilee. Consequently, over 100,000 people will be in Rome for several days, resulting in an estimated economic impact of over 75 million euros for Rome and the surrounding area.
PAST AND FUTURE – In addition to the 2024 study and the almost certain data for 2025, it is important to consider the ongoing economic impact generated over the many previous years. Organizers are also working toward significant numerical-participatory growth, enhancing tourism and hospitality for future years.
