With the thousands of athletes who participate every year in the race and in every initiative that follow it, especially this year, this sport event aims to be a vehicle for unity in the name of sport. Today more than ever it is important to believe and to reinforce these feelings of sharing that are the essence of sport. Therefore, Rome Capital supports this great event that has helped us for years in the development of community networks, wellness and hope.

We are pleased to present 2023 edition of the Acea Run Rome the Marathon, one of the most beloved running events amongst runners from all over the world. Running through the streets of the capital, full of charm and culture, is an experience that goes beyond sport. A big event that combines the international character of the competition and the sense of participation widespread amongst thousands of enthusiasts.

Running through the streets of the capital is an experience that goes beyond sport.

We are entering the third edition of Acea Run Rome the Marathon, organized by Infront, as parent company along with Corriere dello Sport, Atielle, Italian Marathon Club, that worked together with the aim of amplifying the past successes, with the organization of a competitive event: not only is it competitive in racing terms, but also from the inclusive and participating point of view of the community. In fact, we are turning a sport competition into a real party for both the community and the tourists. We see an enormous increase in participation every year, and this year we believe that we could set a new record of the number of runners: in addition to the usual 42195 km, in this edition there will also be the relay and the Stracittadina. Although they used to be side activities, these two events are becoming more and more popular, thanks to the involvement of the Charities in order to raise funds for good causes and to encourage citizens to enjoy a day of celebration together.

For the first time in an Italian marathon, as an outstanding and memorable for everyone who will be at the starting point, there will be an air show of Frecce Tricolori; they will lay the world’s most beautiful and great tricolor in the Roman sky, a trail that will accompany the marathoners for the entire race. An appointment with the Military Aeronautics, that will bring the show to life with its acrobatic patrol, guiding thousands of participants from about 110 foreign countries.

The Acea Run Rome the Marathon is growing more and more, and it can be acknowledged in the many active true and concrete projects. First of all, thanks to an important collaboration with the Military Aeronautics, there will be Frecce Tricolori, that will be the great added value of this edition, a unique emotion that we want to offer to every runner. Then sustainability, solidary, the mural, the photographic exhibition, the events with Athletica Vaticana and the Coppa degli Ultimi, the Stracanina and much more. The number of The Rome Marathon’s followers and lovers, and of those who interact with social media is growing; social media where, so to speak, in the last month almost a million people on Instagram alone have seen our posts, 57% of which are foreigners. T-shirt and medal in front of the Colosseum, symbol of our city, seen from above, from a new and different perspective. The City of Rome and its marathon enter the houses of all the runners of the world, every day. 19th March will be a great day, but neither the beginning nor the end of something, nothing ends after 42195 km, Rome is Eternal! Acea Run Rome the Marathon is back in 2023 on Father’s Day, 19th March. In addition to the traditional marathon (42195 km) the third edition of the relay and the popular Stracittadina will take place. A lot of musical events will try to accompany the marathoners on the race path, as it has always been, and the citizens will take to the streets and cheer so as to push the marathoners towards the finish line of Fori Imperiali. Over 13000 have subscribed to the 42195 km that they chose to run in the world’s most beautiful streets and squares of the world, from the Colosseum to San Paolo, from the Synagogue to San Pietro, from the Olympic Stadium to Piazza del Popolo, from Piazza di Spagna to Piazza Navona, in an unrivalled scenery. The organization of Acea Run Rome the Marathon will express as its best, as always, in an unparalleled atmosphere where the marathoners will try to reach their goals inside an accurate technical offer of services that will be provided. Few places come to mind that are more exciting to run a Marathon in that are better than Rome, the eternal city. In fact, this city holds a special place in my heart, since I have lived here for several years when I was young.

This weekend, about 15000 runners from over a hundred countries will come to this historical city to take part in a race that literally makes you travel in time. From the starting line at Roman Forum, through its legendary squares and streets, all the way to the ending, outside the Colosseum: The Marathon of Rome really is a one-of-a-kind competition.

I would like to thank the organizers for the work they have done, realizing another edition of this legendary competition and I wish good luck to everyone who is participating in this year event and I hope they can reach their personal goals. Have a nice running day!

In the heart of the capital, through the most iconic and exclusive places, unfolds the magic of the Rome marathon. From the Colosseum to Circo Massimo, from Fori Imperiali to Castel Sant’Angelo and Piazza Navona, passing through San Pietro and along the Lungotevere, 42195 km in contact with the history to write a new page of emotions and performance. This race is an ode to sport and it has solidary aims as well, in the spirit of participation and love for sport. A combination that promotes the values on which the movement is founded and that renews the topics of an event that has reached its 28th edition. In my personal name, and of the Italian Olympic National Committee, I give my most sincere thank you to the organizers and a wholehearted encouragement to all the participants, with the certainty that they will live another daydream.

How can you not love Run Rome the Marathon? A charming path, surrounded by a thousand-year history, monumental and colored by a river of participants by the shade of the Colosseum. An event as the Rome marathon is pride and joy for the whole Italian athletics, that must be more and more, so that it can be on par with the other great European marathons from a sportive as well as an economic income point of view. The wish for this edition, after passing through the most difficult phase of the pandemic, is that the numbers can be closer to the pre-Covid ones and even overcome them, knowing that this event really represents motivation for the entire running movement. My greetings go to the organizers and to all the enthusiasts who will enjoy the beauty of the capital, living a unique experience in the city that the whole world envies us.

The Marathon of Rome is one of a kind, with a breathtaking and suggestive path. A time travel that starts and ends at Fori Imperiali, passing through squares, monuments and iconic spots of the city, a city that stands more and more as the Capital of Sport. We will join the fund raise of the JOY project which was designed by Sport senza Frontiere, that organizes Summer Camps for children, teenagers and families who live in fragile social situations or who are affected by emergencies. Third Acea Run Rome The Marathon, growing bigger and bigger. The Marathon of Rome is something great, complicated and supplemented in the city. Throughout the year we constantly use a team of about 30 people, who have become about 100 in the last two months. A mix of professionals and great enthusiasts of the field. We can count on the support of over 2500 volunteers who become, during the days of the event, fundamental figures, and we share with them a year long path that leads up to organize many propaedeutic meetings coordinated by four big companies: Infront Italy, Corriere dello Sport-Stadio, Italia Marathon Club and Atielle, that few years ago worked together bring Acea Run Rome The Marathon to life. An ambitious project that today involves about 30000 runners with a lot of news: from Frecce Tricolori to the Expo Village, full of entertainment and fun topics, from the mural made of anti-smog paints to the partnership with Athletica Vaticana and Sant’Egidio’s community, from the round table inside Aula Magna of Sapienza University to our new mascot (Vittoria), the turtle designed with the help of WWF in order to support an endangered species. Also this year, we are proud to support one of the biggest sport events in Italy, a competition that takes place in the wonderful scenery that is Rome, the city where ACEA was born in 1909 and where it has had the privilege to operate for over a century. In its long story ACEA has always encouraged and promoted the values of sport, mostly the values of the marathon, such as sustainable discipline for the excellence, which also represents a way of living the city, including not only thousands of professional athletes, but also amateurs, paralympic athletes, as well as citizens and families, always respecting the environment.

The Marathon of Rome is an event that has entered the hearts of sportspeople from our country and from all over the world. It really is a party about sport, inside a unique and suggestive surrounding, that was capable, through the years, to become not only a great agonistic appointment but also a valuable occasion to promote values such as loyalty, solidary and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, The Marathon of Rome has always sent a very strong message of inclusion thanks to the participation in the competition of paralympic athletes. A partnership that, in my opinion, has contributed through the years to the civic growth of our society and to change the perception of disabilities. So, I wish my best luck to this new edition, which I’m sure will bring once again the enthusiasm and the passion for sport in the streets of the eternal city.

Not only is the Marathon a race to win, goal only for a few, but also an important aim that many can accomplish. An ending line that can be reached only with training soaked with determination, effort and perseverance; these are all elements that characterize one’s emancipation journey, through sport, in life, of which paralympic athletes are the first witnesses. With a new strength and enthusiasm, FISPES is ready to be at the forefront in order to offer to anyone, alongside FIDAL, the opportunity to run together in this big sport and cultural event, showing how important it is to do things together and color and characterizing them with everyone’s unique and diverse abilities. 19th March 2023, Rome, Colosseum, 30 thousands people lined up, ready to start conquering Acea Run Rome The Marathon, as well as the solidary relay Run4Rome and the Stracittadina Fun Run 5k. The music, the speaker, the great champions who are ready to win and thousands of runners behind them, the Tenor singing the National Anthem and then everything stops. Still. The silence, the pounding heart.

Here we are. It’s a lightining, an adrenaline shock that speeds quickly over the Roman sky: it’s Frecce Tricolori, for the first time in an Italian marathon will roll out in the Roman sky the world’s greatest and most beautiful tricolor. Green, white, red, a lot of pride, a lot of Italy for a trail that will accompany the marathoners for the entire race.

Yes, it is confirmed, thanks to the partnership with the Military Aeronautics, on Sunday 19th March 2023 right before the start of Italy’s most attended sport event, the National Acrobatic Patrol will fly over Fori Imperiali and the 30 thousands participants, about 60% of which are of foreign nationality, from about 110 foreign countries.

An Italian excellence that is worldwide famous exhibits in the year of the Centenary of Military Aeronautics, for the marathon, it will be a unique, strong, waited moment, that will make a day that is about sport, competition, health

and solidary, also into an unforgettable day of a historical importance. This is Rome, this is Run Rome The Marathon, an edition not to be missed, the one of next 19th March, a giant box of emotions and content that fill the city with joy. The marathoners who will cross the city in a path that sees over 30 cultural and historical monuments following one another, a pride that no other city in the world can boast of.

It is dedicated to the Flavian Amphitheater, better known as the Colosseum, symbol of an ancient civilization that has continued its consolidation through the centuries, the medal that will be given to Acea Run Rome The Marathon finishers. On the occasion of the 28th edition of Acea Run Rome The Marathon Joma has chosen the Supercross model to facilitate cushioning and recover.

Joma Supercross 6, the official shoe of Acea Run Rome The Marathon changes its looks and technology. Unique style, thanks to the colors of the flag of the city of Rome: Pompeian red from the emblem and golden yellow from the Byzantine cross, that both appear in the symbol of the city of Rome, the union of history and tradition in order to achieve a completely modern aesthetics; once the cushioning is optimized , the stability and comfort in order to make recovery after the marathon even easier.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS - The Supercross shoe is prepared to withstand the rhythm that is required by long and medium distance competition thanks to the FULL DUAL PULSOR technology in the midsole, a double intensity system, composed by the revolutionary lower REACTIVE BALL that absorbs the impact of the steps and presses the exit. In the upper part it has been inserted a high density phylon, which provide stability and avoids deformation during the support and push for a faster recover.

Moreover, the upper is realized with a light and flexible fabric, along with VTS ventilation technology. The JOMA SPORTCH that was inserted in the upper without any seams optimizes the wearability and the support without adding extra wight.

Another feature of Supercross shoes is the sole: realized with DURABILITY rubber with high resistance to abrasion on the asphalt, placed in the areas that can have close contact with the ground. In the same way, the FLEXO lines facilitate the naturalness and the transition of the step. The Supercross model is designed for runners who have a rhythm of over four minutes per kilometer, training from 3 to 6 times a week and running long or medium distance races. It is equipped with DROP10, which is higher than the priori Storm Viper shoe, and weights 265 grams.

On the back there are the technical partner Joma’s logo and the name of the event, complemented with a message that is full of meaning: the Frecce Tricolori that are celebrating their centenary this year and for which the logo was created, a logo that is capable of tell their story and patriotism, thanks to the representation of the stylized tricolor inside the number.

SN4IFUN Run runners will have “ben” two options. A geometrical design splits the t-shirt into four sectors, allowing play of colour. Light and dark grey are on opposite sides on one side and on the other side there can be fuchsia or red in order to suit all tastes. The motto “Run, non verba” is printed on the chest to give the right energy to all the participants.

There will be 30 thousands hearts of marathoners, walkers, families, adults of all ages, children and furry friends who will be ready to step in unison from 8.00 am when Rome will start an ‘all running’ Sunday, to live a whirlwind of emotions. At the start of Acea Run4Rome hundreds of solidary relays with many chances for runners to do the right thing thanks to the 15 charities that have enthusiastically joined to the event.

Acea Run Rome The Marathon has a thousand faces and a thousand meanings, the imperative is to be there and live the moment. Musica, dances, shows, the attractions will be over 40 along the path, one for every kilometer of the race, if the Tenor singer and the Frecce Tricolori at the beginning of the race and the public’s finishing applause are counted in. A whole city to be moved with, a whole city to move by running and enjoying this great show, where the new meets the ancient and the traces left by the marathon will also be the ones of a mural about social redemption and that cares about the environment too, with its innovative color that is able to absorb pollutants.

The values of sport in a photographic exhibition by the great artist Fabio Lavino. The sport event gains a big value thanks to this initiative, that was chosen by World Athletics to choose who will manage the emergencies of the mass events tomorrow.

The Marathon, two have already offered us the precious gift that the environment is with 6 thousands new trees in the Acea Run Rome The Marathon forest in Guatemala and with the infinite value of life, thanks to the commitment of Associazione Banco Alimen-

tare Roma ODV, that will not leave anything to chance when talking about helping those in need avoiding food waste.

About 7500 foreigners from 110 Nations of the world will attend together this heart beating show that is filled with generosity, also thanks to 175 pacers, 61 foreigners, who think about having fun with the group and the ticking of the clock. Some will run barefoot in honor of the great Abebe Bikila, “the man who still has a long way to go” Sammy Basso, the “senators” who never lost even one of them, the ucrains Nicola Taran who comes back with his fund raise for the war-maimed and Viktoriia Gudyma, who come back to visit the Athletica Vaticana and will be assisted by Suore Adoratrici del Sangue di Cristo. They will run for the first finish line of the marathon or for a crazy finish line, there will be “real” athletes jostling to leave on the sanpietrini the trace of a new story and common people, those who will enjoy the show.

Giorgio Calcaterra, the King of Rome, will be back, who has run over 330 marathons after the first one, where he debuted very young, right here in his ‘Roma’. And then there is the couple Paolo + Sara Vargetto, father and daughter, who are ever present when the starting whistle is the one of the world’s most beautiful marathon. 19th March is Father’s day and it will be a special day for a lot of people, many will find the energy to arrive to the end thinking about their children who will be waiting at the finish line.

Some will run 5 km or to meet a friend to pass the baton to, there will also be who will run fast and who will foretaste the finish line for longer. The sure thing is that the reasons to be there are infinite, or at least as many as the emotions of those who will be lucky to say they were there.

THE TOP RUNNERS OF ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON, THERE ARE NEKA CRIPPA AND STEFANO LA ROSA FOR ITALY

The start list of the élite athletes has been announced, 12 men and 8 women. Tefera from Etiopia is back, winner and record holder of 2022. In the women section there is complete African dominance. Four ‘azzurri’ for national glory, there is Giorgio Calcaterra, the “King of Rome”

ROMA – It will be a much more emotional edition the one by Acea Run Rome The Marathon that will start Sunday 19th March 2023 from 8.00 am with the first of 3 starting waves. The next two will be at 8.04 am and 8.10 am. As scheduled, the Acea Run4Rome relay will follow at 8.15 am and the Stracittadina SN4IFUN Run at 8.30.

A big style start thanks to the Frecce Tricolori flight that will follow to the notes of the National Anthem and of Nessun Dorma by the tenor Carlo Assogna, a tradition that has been carried on for several editions and that complements the traditional parade of fearless legionaries of Gruppo Storico Romano. Competitions for everyone with Acea Run4 Rome, the relay that accompanies the charity program and the SN4IFUN Run, Stracitaddina, that will be accompanied this year by the Stracanina to live a family experience and to enjoy a Sunday of sport and health on the streets of the most beautiful city of the world.

MEN TOP RUNNERS – almost 15 thousands runners will enter the field. Among them there will be a group of great athletes with the dream of conquering Rome and gaining a spot in the hall of fame of Acea Run Rome The Marathon.

Thirteen are the men who can aim to a cover worth result, Africa prepared with ten athletes, four Ethiopian, three Kenyan and a Moroccan, for the Azzurri who will have to defend the national pride.

In the starting list with a personal record that was set in Marrakech marathon in 2020, where he reached the eighth place with 2h08’47’’, Alemu Gemechu from Ethiopia. At a distance of slightly more than one minute from his compatriot Berhanu Heye 2h09’53’’ that made him win the last edition of La Rochelle Marathon.

Other 4 athletes between 2h10’00’’ and sub 2h12’00’’, first of all Nicodemus Kimutai from Kenia who set hit best time at 2h10’00’’ in Prague in 2019, scoring the 8th place. Following in this little group of chasers there is Wilfred Kirwa Kigen from Kenia, thanks to the personal record of 2h10’26’’, by which he scored the 6th place od Ljubljana marathon in 2014. Stefano La Rosa (Carabinieri) will try to keep up with him; he can count on a personal record of 2h11’08’’ that was set in Seville in 2018, which was recently approached again in Seville in 2022, when the chronometer stopped at 2h11’24’’. Few seconds separate him from the winner of the Dublin marathon 2022, Taoufik Allam from Morocco, who adds the title of 10000 m national champion 2022 and a 2h11’30’’ record.

The third little group guided by Sisay Fekadu Berhanu from Ethiopia with a time of 2h12’03’’, followed by Rogers Keror, 6th place in the Monaco marathon 2022 where he set his record at 2h12’34’’. On paper Zinash Debebe Getachew own the victory thanks to her best time of 2h27’25’’ recorded in Guangzhou in 2018. Less than a minute se capable of 2h 28’27’’ in Enschede in 2022; she is also approached by Fozya Amid Jemal from Ethiopia, who scored the fifth place in Lisbon in 2022 with the time of 2h28’30’’. From Ethiopia is also the winner of the Beirut marathon in 2022, Muluhojam Ambi, with a personal time of 2h28’59’’ followed by her compatriot Jemila Shure, sixth in Lisbon in 2021 with the time of 2h29’11’’.

There will also be Chefo Shuke Denbeli who can count on a time of 2h29’51’’ recorded in Dublin in 2019, when he arrived to the finishing line in the third place, and Betty Chepkwony, eight in Istanbul in 2021 in 2h30’28’’. Etsegenet Ezhiw will be debuting.

THE PATH STREETS FILLED WITH HISTORICAL SCENT

Running the marathon is without a doubt a big emotion, running it without leaving our own traces in a city that has an epic history is an even more big one. PATH/3 KM

The first kilometer starts from Via dei Fori Imperiali, because of the presence of the Fori, a great political, administrative and judiciary monumental center from the Roman times, filled with citizens. The area was urbanized in the Middle Ages, but still today it narrates the history of Rome from a 10 meters depth. You look out right away on the Altare della Patria, whose decorations symbolize strength, action, sacrifice, thought and harmony. On the left, the Ara Coeli Insula, placed at the bottom of the stairway of Ara Co-

eli on Via del Teatro di Marcello, a four-storey building that has been revised with the realization of a church dedicated to Santa Rita. The attention is immediately captured by Campidoglio, where the most famous anecdotes of Roma history happened, followed by Teatro Marcello, a unique ancient theatre that was used as a model to build the Colosseum in Rome. This can be all observed from the start at the first kilometer where Portuno’s Temple and Winning Ercole’s Temple appear, headquarter of the first market of Rome. Through Via dei Cerchi you will be able to admire the majesty of Circo Massimo, the chosen place for the chariot races in the Roman times, 600 meters long, 140 meters wide with a seating capacity of about 150000, outstanding numbers for another symbol of the city! Once arrived to the third kilometer the majestic Cestia Pyramid can be observed, which was then became a bastion of the Aurelian Walls.

LUNGOTEVERI 4/15 KM

The run will take place along the streets that coast the river, result of the construction post-unity walls that were buit to defend the city from the multiples and disastrous floods that had devastated the city in the past centuries. KM 16/HALF MARATHON

At the 16th kilometer there is Via della Conciliazione, born from the “small fascist” and then named after this to remember the Patti Lateranensi. On the right, on the opposite side for the entire itinerary there will be the “coridore”, the Passetto di Borgo, built to connect the Apostolic Palace with Castel Sant’Angelo, an escape for Popes when attacked. Heading for the Colonnato and the Basilica di San Pietro, an adrenaline shock with its majestic beauty, arriving to the half marathon in correspondence of of Ponte Cavour, built to connect Campo Marzio and Rione Prati.

you go through the places that once were property the Olympic village, Piazzale dell’Acqua Acetosa, Via dei Campi Sportivi, Via dell’Agonistica, where Abebe Bikila, at the bottom of Arco di Costantino, wrote a new chapter of the marathon…barefoot! Beyond this point the paths goes toward northern Rome and it is the biggest praying center of Italia, the Moschea that can be host up to 12000 believers.

KM 30/FINISHING LINE

And here it is! Via del Corso! The most famous road of the city owes its name to the famous races, during carnival period, with the Berberi horses, that were forced to run sicked with pitch balls that were hit against their back. Their race was unfortunately stopped by a sort of wall composed by a hanging drape where those poor animals often impacted and died. The street is part

of the Romano Trident whose peak is in Piazza del Popolo, characterized by a magnificent obelisc and two twin churches that should have been perfectly symmetrical, but that really are not, but was a place made for executions and hangings until the first half of Nineteenth Century. Proceeding to Piazza di Spagna, captured in Vacanze Romane that began the myth of the eternal city; it is amongst the places which the myth of Rome has the most powerful bond to. It is very famous due to its stairway composed by 136 steps, at whose feet lies Barcaccia Fountain. On the right of the stairway is placed the “Casina Rossa” that hosted the poet John Keats, among others. Through Piazza di Tor Sanguigna you will enter Piazza Navona, the “good” living room of the city, amongst the most famous squares of Rome thanks to its typical baroque style it has always been considered uno che most joyful historical sites of the capital. Originallly, it used to host Domiziano’s stadium that is placed about 10 m below the actual level of the street, the square took shape only in he Middle Ages, around 1400, when people started caring about the market that gained historical importance. Arriving at Largo di Torre Argentina, on the right the Area Sacra di Largo Argentina, also known for the cat colony that lives there where Giulio Cesare was assassinated. Right in the center of the Foro Romano there are the remains of Tempio di Cesare, wanted by August. Piazza Venezia and Via dei Fori Imperiali are surpassed once again in order to reach the finishing line at the bottom of the Colosseum, symbol of Rome that has observed for over 2000 years, witness of all the upheavals of the city that survived two thousand years of history and stories almost unscathed, years that you have walked century by century in you stratospheric race!

WWF AND TURTLE “VITTORIA” THE MASCOTTE OF ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON WAS BORN

WWF – It is the biggest world organization for Nature conservation, attending over 100 countries of the world where, thanks to the support of over 5 million people, it pursues more than 2000 projects for the protection of biodiversity. In Italy WWF is operating in every region through a network of volunteers, local organizations and Guards who help managing over 100 Oasis.

WWF will run the solidary relay Run4Rome for Climate and Nature, in order to focus the attention on the urgent needs of defending and protecting nature by building a new relationship with the Planet, that provide us with all the resources that are necessary to life and because climate crisis and biodiversity loss are two sides of the same coin.

Two crisis feeding one another that together have a deep impact on the quality of our lives, on our safety and on the world we are building for the new generations. WWf Italia will participate in the relay race with 25 teams that will run with the panda shaped symbol.

Symbol of the synergy between “Acea Rome Run The Marathon and WWF will be the mascotte of the event, a Caretta caretta sea turtle: endangered species and protagonist of a “marathon” in the Mediterranean Sea that is full of menaces caused by mankind. First of all global warming, that raises the temperature of the seas and compromises the survive rate of sea turtles, altering the gender of the newborns and so the structure of the whole population.

In fact, temperature of sand that are higher than 29°C mostly originate females, with the risk of causing – in the long term – a scarcity of male individuals. Then there is the rubbish: every year, 570 tons of plastic end up in the sea.

Western fishing, bycatch9, is a relevant threat to the species as well: it has been estimated that every year about 150 thousands sea turtles end up being accidentally captured by the fishing tools in the Mediterranean Sea, 40000 of which die.

RECORD, PEACE TO UCRAINE, THE POPE: THE HISTORY OF ROME MARATHON

DORANDO PIETRI - The queen distance in the Italian capital has a strong tradition. We could go over a century back, to 2nd April 1906, when the Emilian Dorando Pietri won the marathon reaching the finish line in Siena square.

ABEBE BIKILA - We could go back to 60 years ago, to that magic night of Roma Olympics of 1960, when the Ethiopian Abebe Bikila started the period of African marathoners, running barefoot for the whole race. He became a myth, his ride on Appia Antica, enlightened by torches is pure history of athletics, just like his winner picture as he arrived to Arco di Costantino.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - More golden medals, this time we are talking about World campionships, on 6th September 1987 with the victory of Kenyan-Japanese Douglas Wakiihuri, huge icon of world foot racing.

YESTERDAY AND TODAY - The marathon that we all know today originates in 1995 with Italia Marathon Club and in 2011 it is awarded the prestigious award Iaaf Gold Label. In 2019 the organization was entrusted to Fidal, from 2020 there is a new organizing committee formed by Infront, Corriere dello Sport – Stadium, Italia Marathon Club and Atielle Roma, because of Covid-19 the edition of 29th March 2020 unfortunately could not take place, a few weeks from the start the world had to stop for a global lockdown that did not allow the holding. THE ITALIAN ACHIEVEMENTS

In the last editions there were over 115 countries participating, while the male hall of fame there are 7 victories from Ethiopia, 14 from Kenya, 3 from Italy with Stefano Baldini, Ruggero Pertile and Alberico Di Cecco. On the female side we can find Russian victories, but also from Estonia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Algeria. There are also lots of people thanks to the victories of Franca Fiacconi, Maura Viceconte, Maria Guida, Maria Cocchetti, Gloria Marconi and Ornella Ferrara.

A RECORD-BREAKING 2022!

The male race of 2022 has recorded a new path record. The author was Bekele Fikre Tefera from Etiopia who wont in 2:06’48’’, breaking the previous record belonging to Benjamin Kiptoo Kolum from Kenia in 2009: 2:07’18’’. Record improved again by the second and third place of this edition, respectively the other Ethiopian Mamo Tadesse Temechachu (2:07’04’’) also the Moroccan Othamane El Goumri (2:07’16’’). 9 athletes have reached the finish line before 2h10’. For women is even more valid the record by Kebede Megertu Alemu (Ethiopia) who in April 2019 ran in 2h22’52’’

2022 FOR PEACE IN UKRAINE

Amongst the thousands of foreign participants there was the 30 years old Ukranian Viktoriia Gudyma, who came in Italy with her 10 years old child, directly from Varsavia where she sheltered right after the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Landed with no luggage in Fiumicino, thanks to the action of Athletica Vaticana, Viktoriia and her child have been hosted for a few days in the Institute of Suore Adoratrici del Sangue di Cristo in Via Labicana. The organizers of the marathon of Rome provided Viktoriia with new running shoes and a technical t-shirt and

shorts kit.and she thanked them in the best way, with that smile and that finish line in 3:28’19’’. These are her words: << I am very glad to be in Rome and about my race today. I ran for the Ukranian people, with my Country in my heart and the flag on the shoulders, with that blue representing peace.>>

2022 SPECIAL PACERS

Annalisa Minetti and Sara Vargetto are two incredible women. Minetti, paralympic athlete, with the determination and the attitude that characterizes her, has managed to reach her goal: to bring the marathoners and reach the finish line in 4 hours. There will be a Roma teenagers who is affected by juvenile idiopathic arthritis, disease that forces her into move on a wheelchair. She shares with her father Paolo the passion for running and it was him that accompanied her in this adventure of 4 years and 10 minutes.

WITH THE POPE

On the occasion of the Jubilee there was a run on 1st January 2022, a historical date. Giovanni Paolo II in Piazza San Pietro gave his greetings to all the participants lined up on the starting line of the marathon. In 2022 Pope Francesco greeted during the Angelus in Piazza San Pietro: “I greet the participants of the marathon of Rome, this year as an initiative by Athletica Vaticana several athletes have being involved in solidary projects. Congratulations.”

BAREFOOT

The Kenyan Siraj Gena’s success in 2010 is unforgettable: he reached the finish line barefoot in honor of Abebe Bikila. The Ethiopian in 1960 was the first African to win in Olympic gold and ran the entire marathon barefoot, he had new shoes that were given to him just few hours before the beginning of the race, he preferred to be barefoot. Half a century after Siray Gena took her shoes off, about 500 meters from the finishing line from the arrival where one of Bikila’s kid was.

MISSION - To be a Pacer is a vocation where responsibility and satisfaction combines, becoming one, the aim is to run a marathon with the effort of conducing a group to the finish line in a determined time. The pacers are always ready to give advice, to reassure, to set the constant rhythm, to keep the moral up in difficult moments, to prepare their fellow companions for their next turn or to collect the public’s cheers. It is a role of great generosity that ends to the hall of the stopwatch., when the effort of every runner turns into joy and the effort of pacers turns into the hug of those who thank them for making it, for living a wonderful dream with the group.

VARGETTO - Pushed by her father Paolo, the young Sara Vargetto will be in the Pacer team 2023, a girl affected by juvenile idiopathic arthritis, a inflammatory disease that leads to the degeneration of the joints and that appears at an early age by alternating recrudescence and remission phases and that forces her to use a wheelchair. Her energy and her smile will be fundamental for the group that will follow her.

CHARITY PROGRAM RUN4ROME RUNS WITH 15 ASSOCIATIONS

On Sunday 19th March along with Acea Rome Rome The Marathon there is Run4Rome solidary relay. 15 associations joining the solidary system.

THE ASSOCIATIONS – To submit and participate means to support the following realities and their projects, described below: Lorenzo’s Star by Onlus, Sport City Foundation, Airc, Sport Senza Frontiere Onlus, Ey Foundation, Matteo’s World Onlus, Rotary District 2080, Alzheimer Marathon Foundation, Banco Alimentare Roma, Operation Smile Italia Ets Foundation, Telethon ETS Foundation, WWF, Associazione Italiana Progeria Sammy Basso Aps Onlus, Aned e Special Olympics Italia.

Onlus was born at the end of 2012 at the wish of Lorenzo Fabbri’s parents, suddenly passed away in the night of 29th September of the same year after a fatal arrhythmia, caused by an arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy, a pathology unknown to everyone in the family. In fact, arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy is a genetic degenerative pathology that has no cure at the moment, that is very often asymptomatic, and it is one of the most common causes of sudden death of youngsters; in Italy, about 4 youngsters every 100000 citizens are affected by it every year. To raise awareness among families on the importance of prevention when talking about heart diseases with a focus on dangerous arrhythmias at young ages, Lorenzo’s Star by Onlus conducts ECG screening campaigns in preschools, elementary and middle schools, in partnership with Baby Jesus Pediatric hospital and Niguarda hospital; until today over 20000 children and teenagers have done an electrocardiograms, free at no cost for families, thanks to the funds allocated by Onlus. Donations are included in this project too: of medical equipment such as electrocardiographs and holters to hospitals; defibrillators to schools. The relay is painted with passion for life and love for sport with Sammy Basso and the Sammy runners.

At the start of Run4Rome the special team of “the man who still has a long way to run”, Sammy Basso. Sammy was born with progeria, a rare genetic condition characterized by early ageing that, despite the difficulties, has never stopped him realizing his several goals. Sammy is the President of Progeria Italian Association (A.I.Pro.Sa.B) founded by himself in order to inform about progeria and raise funds for research about diagnosis and cure of this rare genetic condition. He has been usually hosted in many events, and he will be in Rome Sunday 19th Match with his special wheelchair and his Sammy runners. He has a Natural Sciences and Molecular Biology degree and he was knighted by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Sammy has traveled many times to USA to contribute to the studies on his genetic condition and to take part in therapeutic journeys, with the aim of slowing down the course of progeria, a path that represents a small success in his longevity, Sammy is in fact the world’s oldest subject with of progeria. Among all these

things, the love for sport and for running, a social mean of the extraordinary power of reaching every runner’s heart and informing about progeria. In 2016 the participation in Venice Marathon with the special Joelette and all the enthusiasm of the Sammy Runners, a journey that went on to Milan Marathon in 2020 and 2022, before coming back to Laguna in October. In the middle of February Sam took part in Giulietta&Romeo Half Marathon as a step towards Run4Rome.

A race inside Rome’s thousand-years history , this is a special achievement why for an Acea Run Rome The Marathon marathoner, one to live with even more intense emotions, between the antiquity of world’s most beautiful city and the river of runners.

Next 19th March there will also be the Ethiopian Ermes Ayele among the characters chosen by Rome to run in history, to tell and make its story and to remember a magical history, Abebe Bikila’s.

ABEBE BIKILA - Just pronouncing his name you can get goosebumps; the modest and proud-eyed Ethiopian, the Olympic marathoner with a past as a farmer then become the emperor Hailé Selassié’s personal bodyguard, a simple man who is able to bare every effort. In 1960 he arrived to the Olympics in Rome thanks to the insistence against the Ethiopian government of his trainer Onni Niskanen, a Swedish man with Finnish origins, but also thanks to Abebe Wakjera’s injury, who has qualified before him, but who irresponsibly played a football game the day before leaving for Italy. Bikila, invisible to everyone, was the only one really conscious of his strength, and he won the first Olympic gold medal of

the African continent, the first one by a black person in a marathon, and improved the Olympic record (2h15’16’’), all this barefoot, as he was used to inflaming, dusty and stone Ethiopian roads. He outdid his opponent barefoot, right under the Axum obelisk, stolen by Mussolini in 1937 as a trophy of Italian colonialism in Ethiopia, and run to win in the dark under the Arch of Costantino and then said “I run barefoot to better hear what the road whispers to me”.

ERMIAS AYELE - In honor of the Ethiopian Lion there will be the Ethiopian Ermias Ayele, ex race director of the noble Great Ethiopian Run organized by the champion Haile Gebreselassie.

The protagonists of the third episode are Brian Williams and Steve Cudd – a couple of friends, the first is 77 years old and South African, the second is English and almost 70 years old. They both live in Ginevra where they have worked for almost 20 years. They have already run some marathons together, but for both of them it will be the first time in Rome. The run to finish the marathon before 6 hours and qualify for Comrades Ultra Marathon, race that takes place in South Africa, the country where Brian had to run away from during apartheid as he was a State enemy.

Good Deeds Day is characterized by solidary initiatives and interest in the common good, spread in the city of Rome, thanks to the widespread presence and activity of volunteers associations. This is why it has received for two years in a row the medal of the Presidency of the Republic. This year the GDD is taking place on Sunday 19th March, coin-

ciding with the Fun Run, and on 15th April concomitantly with” Rome cures Rome”, another event that is promoted by community Roma dedicated to the citizens’ active participation to social life.

On Sunday 19th March about 100 of Associations that joined the event will wait for the participants in the amateur race at the 5km finish line: Circo Massimo. The concerned area will be prepared with stands of the associations that will have the role of presenting themselves and involving the citizens in games, sports and cultural activities, preventive healthcare initiatives and much more. A day of 360 entertainment for both adults and children, and for your furry friends too.

As every year whoever wants to run can subscribe at the Stracittadina also thanks to the volunteer organizations that join the Good Deeds Day, providing their activities with a small contribute. Together to… realize our dream at Acea Run Rome The Marathon. In 2023 the special group of helpers for people with disabilities is back again.

Acea Run Rome the marathon is an event for everybody, marvelous mean of inclusion and sharing. As it has happened in Rome for many years, there is room and cheers for the helpers who report to INiX, that stands for ‘Insiemeper..’. it is a title to be completed and continued with ‘realizing our dream’, but it could be anything. The important thing is “Insiemeper…”, that is officially a sports club affiliated with EPS (UISP); INiX has in

its DNA the purpose and the possibility of doing, that can and must meet with the opportunity of doing.

Chaired by the engineer Guerrino Fosca, ‘Insiemeper…’ will be realizing a dream at the Marathon of Rome for and with others. Francesco D’Andrea, one of the five funding members, defines it: “We are here for others, for whoever wants to realize their dream - says an enthusiast Francesco - to let a person with disabilities to run a marathon in their wheelchair is the combination of two dreams: the helpers’ the helped ones’.

At Acea run Roma the Marathon there will be helpers and helped ones in the usual proportion 1:1. The group will be formed by 21 kids in their wheelchairs and the same numbers of helpers.

Since 2021 Acea Run Rome The Marathon has applied an important sustainable development policy for Italy’s biggest and most attended sports event. An Iso20121 certification has already been obtained, and the reaching goal is more and more ambitious.

ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON SPORTS EVENT

MORE AND MORE SUSTAINABLE

ROMA – Ever since its debut in 2021 one of the greatest challenges of Acea Run Rome The Marathon is to become a more sustainable marathon, and it is not easy to achieve the final result for Italy’s most attended sport event, that will include about 30,000 subscriptions including the marathon, the solidary relay Acea Run4Rome and the Stracittadina SN4I FUN Run.

Several goals have already been achieved, others are even more ambitious and require more time, but the challenge and the final aim are as important as possible. For the next edition on 19th March 2023 the organizers of the event, Infront Italy, Corriere dello Sport – Stadium, Italian Marathon Club and Atielle, In partnership with Sustainability Partner Circularity - Benefit Society operating in the world of circular economy - are taking auction in order to reduce the environmental impact of the marathon.

“Sustainable management”, certified ISO 20121 - the organization has adopted a sustainable management system that allowed it to obtain ISO 20121 “Sustainable Event Management” certification, released by Ente Certificatore Rina. The starting point to define the sustainable development policy of the event has been about evaluating

economic, social and environmental impacts of the event with clear and pragmatic objectives: economically, to reduce, reuse and recycle in order to limit waste; socially, to promote and adopt ethical behaviors and record the environmental impacts in order to reduce the negative ones and optimize the positive ones.

The management of the organization, basing on the indications imposed by the ISO 20121 international standard, has so defined a formal document of “Sustainable Development Politics”, in accordance with the objective of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, shared with its stakeholders. Particularly, the main stakeholders have received a picture of evaluation of their respective goals and contributes, regarding sustainable development goals, in accordance with the Indication of 2030 Agenda written by United Nations: our system of guidelines with the aim of meeting the demands of constant improvement of the management system of Acea Run Rome The Marathon.

2021 AND 2022 RESULTS

Among the results there is the reduction of food waste, a more sustainable mobility, compensation of CO2 emissions, a better use of resources and waste.

Running is sustainable: it requires passion, perseverance and persistency. Who runs knows that everything depends on the impact with the ground and to speed up you need to be light. This is how Acea Run Rome The Marathon with his circularity partner, zero CO2, Banco Alimentare Roma, Rina and Plastic Free Odv Onlus, wants to be: light on the impact, quickly reaching the finish line. A goal that sees a reduced environmental impact in 2023, mostly in the reduction of food waste, sustainable mobility, compensation of emissions a better use of resources and waste.

In the past editions, thanks to the active contribute of Banco Alimentare Roma ODV Association and to the initiatives that were organized with circularity and sustainability partners, among others, 40 tons of water where collected, 16 tons of isotonic beverages, 170 kg of oranges, 950 kg of apples, 328 kg of food, 90 kg of bananas, 100 kg of snacks, 3920 T-shirts and 2400 bags for a total of 64 tons. This is a contribute that assumes a social value as well, because the network provides with assistance and over 100,000 indigents in the city of Rome and in Lazio.

Trees are considered as the most efficient and cheap technology that is able to compensate greenhouse gasses: Acea Run Rome The Marathon, in partnership with zero CO2 and thanks to the contribute of the participants of the marathon, has created, between 2022 and 2023 a forest of 6000 trees in Guatemala that allows to absorb 3870 tons of CO2.

The attention is also particularly focused on the means of transport that are used during the race, for the mobility of the athletes and their equipment: the existent fleet has been supplemented until it reached a donation of up to 60% of the means of transport that use hybrid or completely electric power supply. In the past two years, Acea Run Rome The Marathon has also improved its circularity level, selecting and collecting waste that was destined to recycling. The waste generated from the marathon have been 13,910 kg, 1670 kilos of which consists of plastic and 1740 kilos of paper.

The activity of collecting and selecting has allowed the start of recycling 54% of plastic, almost equal to 902 kilos, and 85% of paper, equal 1479 kg of retrieved paper.

The organization of the Marathon of Rome has put in effort so as to make it one of Italy’s most sustainable events, thanks to our strategy and our development plan that includes the effort of the organizers of the event, along with the stockholders and the involved partners. The model of sustainability that the Marathon of Rome has been implementing can become the best practice to replicate on the occasion of the big sports and cultural events in Italy, such as football games or concerts – comments Camilla Colucci, founder and CEO of circularity.

Circularity assists the Marathon of Rome in its sustainable journey and deals with estimating and recording the emissions of the event to identify solutions of reduction and compensation that are more and more efficient. It also accompanies the marathon towards the goal of becoming “plastic free”, beyond having contributed to an important news of this edition: thanks to G-Tech partner, two eco-ecompactors will be installed, that select plastic waste reducing their volume, that will be placed inside the Expo area of the event.

Acea Run Rome The Marathon commits to planting over 3000 trees in this year edition (in addition to the three thousands of last year) in Guatemala, Pèten region, with the

double aim of absorbing CO2 emissions and supporting the economy and the nutrition of local farming families. All the participants can contribute in the moments of the subscription to Acea Run Rome The Marathon forest by purchasing one or more trees in order to fight against CO2 emissions.

Moreover, circularity has realized formation activities and workshops about specific needs of the Organization in order to supplement the principles of sustainability and circular economy inside their organizing strategy. Furthermore, SDGs (sustainable development goals) were identified, that are connected to the virtuous initiatives that are implemented.

The ambitious aim of Acea Run Rome The Marathon for the next years is achieving carbon neutrality. In order to efficiently and concretely respond to the challenges that are necessary for a more sustainable marathon, circularity has in fact structured a road map on a long term started in 2021 edition, introducing a path of sustainability with the aim of recording - with transparency and constant improvement - the carbon footprint of the most impacting activities of the event, supplementing virtuous initiatives of sustainability and circular economy that allow the reduction of the measured emissions.

The trip towards Acea Run Rome The Marathon starts many months before Sunday 19th March, it is an itinerary whose extraordinary emotions can be shared thanks to the group trainings. At the beginning of September the calendar of the five group trainings by Get Ready was written, trainings that were realized thanks to the effort of Federica Romano with the renewed participation of the Olympic Andrea Giocondi, the official coach of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, that will guide the training.

PHOTOGRAPHIC PROJECT DEDICATED TO SPORT AND ITS VALUES

Acea Run Rome The Marathon Is ENRICHED with a new experience by joining “portraits of sport”, the photographic project by Fabio Lovino, who is famous for having portraited many movie stars from the national cinematic industry and Hollywood and who has the intention here to acknowledge the values of sport, beauty, talent and strength of its protagonists. The exhibit of the masterpieces of the great photographer Fabio Lovino will be inaugurate on Saturday 11th March at 6:00 pm in Palazzo Merulana and it will be open for visits until Sunday 19th March; it includes 35 portraits that were inspired by the Italian world of sports. Lovino wants to narrate talent and charisma with which the athlete manages to reach the public and to transmit the values and the ideals that make sport one of the greatest means of innovation, social inclusion and health. The goal is achieved with “Portraits of sport”. Among the pictures there is a beautiful series dedicated to Gianluca Vialli, an ode to the author of the great football scene who recently passed away and to whom the exhibit is dedicated. The subjects of the exhibits are the boxing champions Roberto Cammarelle and Roberto Blandamura, the swimming champion Federica Pellegrini, the canoeist Josefa Idem, the former athletics star Fiona May, the swimmer Luca Dotto and the tennis player Matteo Berrettini. And then the ‘Azzurre’ worlds and Olympic Champions Rossella Flamingo, Rachele Bruni, Maria Marconi, Edwige Gwend, Odette Giuffrida

and Simona Quadarella, Tania Cagnotto. It will be the first Italian race to test waterballs.

Finally, the NotPla Ooho waterballs take the field in Italy, edible balls made of seaweed that revolutionize the way in which liquids are stored by substituting the necessity of disposable plastic. Naturally biodegradable, 100% without plastic and vegan, they contain 50 cl of water and they can be eaten right away without leaving any waste nor thrown in the compostable waste, when disposing, where they would deteriorate in a few weeks. The waterballs are therefore the solution to hydration while moving during the big mass events where they are a good substitute to disposable plastic glasses and bottles, also reducing the necessary effort for the afterwards cleaning.

ROME– The bond between Acea Run Rome The Marathon and Athletica Vaticana, the sports club of Città del Vaticano. is increasingly stronger and more important. In order to prepare physically and spiritually, to the programmed edition for the morning of Sunday 19th March 2023, starting at 8:00 AM, several initiatives were programmed to give a unique big hug to the marathoners from all over the world and to the poor hosted by Elemosineria Apostolica and by Sant’Egidio’s community in Palazzo Migliori (next to Piazza san Pietro). These will be moments of true sport, friendship, inclusion and mutual enrichment.

We also expect to have a meeting with the Santo Padre who has always proved himself to be a great lover of sports and of the marathon. So Papa Francesco cheered the marathons in 2022 during the Angelus in Piazza San Pietro: “I welcome the participants of the Marathon of Rome this year; thanks to the initiative of Athletica Vaticana several athletes have been involved in solitary projects. Congratulations. “

The first appointment is on Thursday 9th March at 6:00 PM at Dispensario Pediatrico “Santa Marta” in Vaticano.

Suora Anna Luisa Rizzello, Manager of the Dispesary, Athletica Vaticana will be participating, with the representants of Palazzo Migliori, a Reception Center for the poor, opened by Elemosineria Apostolica and entrusted to Sant’Egidio’s Community.

The title of the night will be ‘sport as light, life and redemption”, and in order to bring their witness of life and sport there will be the athletes Annalisa Minetti, singer, actress, model and, marathoner and Paralympic athlete, the marathoner of Athletica Vaticana Sara Vargetto, the ultramarathoner three times world champion Giorgio Calcaterra and the journalist and writer Roberto Di Sante.

According to tradition, on Saturday 18th March at 6:00 PM in Chiesa Degli Artisti (Piazza del Po-

polo) the Prayer of the Marathoner will take place. The cardinal José Toletino de Mendonca is chairing, prefect of the Dicaster for culture and education and the choir of Roman diocese will animate the celebration. At the end of the celebration the Prayer of the Marathoner and the blessing of the athletes will take place, with a particular prayer for peace, also through sport experience.

FRIDAY 17TH MARCH – 6.30 PM -Dinner with the poor in Palazzo Migliori with the organizers of Acea Run Rome The Marathon for an important hug and greet in the days of a big international sports event.

VATICANA IS WITH THE PPOOR: COPPA DEGLI ULTIMI

Coppa degli Ultimi is born and there is the Open Letter to the Marathoners.

The important news of this edition of Acea Run Rome The Marathon is Coppa degli Ultimi, prepared - in Papa Francisco’s style –by Erwin Alfredo Bendfeldt who lives in a shelter of Roman Caritas. He has had a particular life: he ran away from Guatemala when there was dictatorship, and he was shot in the head. Believed to be dead, he was thrown in a mass grave where he was found by a priest that arrived there to bless the corpses. Now he lives in Rome, helped by Caritas and some good friends. This prize will be donated to the last pacer who will pass through Piazza Pio XII – Piazza San Pietro, as a symbol of perseverance, strength and equality with the first winners. For Coppa Degli Ultimi there will be a landmark and a symbolic finish line in Piazza San Pietro, with the presence of the Vatican Gendarmerie Music Band and of the poor who will deliver the monthly “Osservatore Romano di Strada”.

There are several initiatives and meeting chances among the marathoners, Athletica Vaticana and the poor hosted by Sant’Egidio’s community. Coppa degli Ultimi is born and there is the Open Letter to the Marathoners

and was blessed by Papa Francesco just like the medals of the marathon.

LETTER TO THE MARATHONERS - On March number of the monthly magazine “L’Osservatpre Romano di Strada” - entirely dedicated to sport seen from the excluded and the last ones’ point of view - the open letter has been published: the poor right to the marathoner, with the title ‘Dear friend who runs on the same streets as us”, attaching thank you from the poor who live in the streets to the marathoners and the organizers of the marathon. ‘The street’ is shared. It will be published next 5th March and it will be delivered, particularly on Sunday in Piazza San Pietro on the occasion of the Angelus of Santo Padre, including Sunday 19th March.

VIKTORIIA – The 31 year old Ukraine Viktoriia Gudyma will be back in Rome. She arrived last year in Italy with his 10 years old child, directly from Warsaw where he found shelter right after the beginning of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. After being reached by the organizers of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, Viktoriia let us know that he wanted to participate anyway in the

marathon but that she did not have anything with her. She landed without any luggage in Fiumicino airport and thanks to the action of Athletica Vaticana, Viktoriia and her child were hosted for a few days in the institute of Suore Adoratrici del Sangue di Cristo in Via Labicana. The organizers provided Victoria with new shoes to run with and a kit of technical shorts and T-shirts, so that she could be at the start in Fori imperiali and fulfill her dream of running the Marathon of Rome.

OPEN LETTER: THE POOR WRITE TO THE MARATHONER

On Sunday 19th March, on the occasion of the Marathon of Rome, there will be the delivery of the Coppa Degli Ultimi to the last ones.

Dear friend who runs on the same street that every day, in the rain or the sun, is our home. We are the ones you see sitting on the sidewalks or on the stairway of a church while we ask for help. And also those who you quickly pass by while we pull our possessions stored in a suitcase or in some supermarket bag.

We thought that our lives had nothing to do with yours. Yes, there is the street that united us, but for you it is a gym, while for us it is our whole world. But it is not like this. We are sports people too. And not just because we often happen to wear a jumpsuit, not always in the right size: besides, beggars cannot be choosers.

The reason of this letter is not to tell you about our troubles. At the end, life, especially in these times, is not always easy for everyone. The reason is that we want to say: thank you! Yes, thank you! Thank you because you live this great and important event that is the Marathon of Rome, not just as a sports competition, but also as a friendship and solidarity race. Thank you because you know how to show that the achievement to accomplish is not the podium, but a goal to reach. And it is nice to accomplish it together.

A special thank you goes to the organizers who, showing a great sensibility towards social distress, have involved through Athletica Vaticana also “L’Osservatore della Strada”, preparing our symbolic finish line in Piazza san Pietro where you can find us cheering you and delivering our newspaper. Maybe it is the first time that such honor is reserved to the invisibles.

A friend of ours has prepared it in a shelter where he lives. He is called Erwin Alfredo Bendfeldt and who follows this newspaper knows him by reading some of his pomes in the pages of “chants from the suburbs”. He ran away from Guatemala when there was dictatorship. He was shot in the head. Believed to be dead, they threw him in a common grave where he was found and saved by a priest who had arrived there to bless the corpses.

Now he lives in Rome assisted by Caritas and some good friends. He is, like us, a “last one”. Or maybe like each and every one of us when we forget that we are all on the same boat and... on the same street.

THE MURAL OF ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON, ART AND SPORT MEET SOCIAL RIGHTS

Project that or awards the runners with a mural dedicated to Acea Run Rome The Marathon is starting.

The preparation of a very special project is awaited, bond to Acea Run Rome The Marathon, the realization of a mural that remembers forever on epic event like the one of Sunday 19th March. The goals to achieve is the realization of the mural, right while the athletes are passing by during the marathon, and it was entrusted to UrbanUtopia, a creative studio specialized in Arts and Urban Regeneration, based on the idea that imaginative power and visual culture can be a driving force capable of transforming a city and a community giving a new value to the city spots.

THE MURAL - The idea of a mural dedicated to Acea Run Rome

The Marathon generates from the concept that this marathon is a big gesture of love for sports and for the eternal city. The mural will be realized in Via Giovanni Volpato 20, a wall of 5x4 meters facing the kindergarten Fantasia and that is part of the 10th kilometer of the race. The mural wants to leave a tangible trace of the passage of the marathon and to connect at the same time sport and social environment of the neighborhood so as to leave a positive sign inside a path filled with historical and scenic wonders.

THE ENVIRONMENT - Tt the base of the whole productive process of the project there is the reduction of waste and the use of natural based paints. The focus on the environment has led the working group to look for innovative materials. For the first time in Italy the mural will be realized with anti-smog paints, thanks to a product that immediately activating photocatalysis of the pollutants of the atmosphere. This is a solution that allows to safeguard the technical and creative aspects of the realization of an urban arts project, adding a cleaning power to the surface.

THE ARTIST - Since this is a feeling of strong sports and didactic meaning, and at the same time the necessity of realizing that might merge with the environment of the city, the choice fell on the artist LuogoComune from Cremona, who has a long tradition and experience in the field of urban art and printed illustration. A very analytical approach to the context and a representation filled with colors and symbols that give a unique sensibility to his creations inspired directly by the Italian advertisement graphics of ‘900 merged with graffiti urban language.

THE MARATHON RUNS WITH SAPIENZA

Sport and science meet at La Sapienza with a rich carnet of speakers about several aspects connected to these topics.

The importance of dealing with sports with a scientific knowledge is growing; from this concept starts the collaboration between ”La Sapienza” and Acea Run Rome The Marathon that results into a debate on Thursday 16th March in the Aula Magna of SapienzaSport Sports Services Center of University La Sapienza Rome.

After the institutional greetings, thanks to a carnet full of speeches, the morning will start with the topic of “how to train and run a marathon from every point of view: legs and head”, followed by the debate about “how to set a world record” and “sustainability and communication of big events”, a very popular topic.

The first part will be concluded with a space about art and sustainability topics, before switching to the afternoon and dealing with the topics of “medicine and sports sciences” and ” training in sport area.

The end is left for the “importance of certified competition ability of the runner”, “the effect of the environment on the sport performance” followed by “nutrition and marathon” and, last but not least, “doping and running”.

THE SENATORS

ACEA RUN ROME THE MARATHON A VIRTUOUS MODEL OF SANITARY MANAGEMENT OF THE EVENT

World Athletics and BSO/I-help organizes the ”Race Emergency Medicine Course” in the weekend of the race.

Improving the competence of the healthcare professionals is one of the objectives of World Academy for Endurance Medicine. Healthcare professionals supervise the medical support present at World Athletics events and at other mass events of the world.

World Athletics in partnership with BSO/I-help, sanitary partner of Acea Run Rome The Marathon, will teach the “Race Emergency Medicine Course” on 18th and 19th March, offering to the professional doctors and healthcare professionals the opportunity of improving their knowledge and skills about medical management on the day of the race.

The choice has fallen on Acea Run Rome The Marathon, believed to be a model of virtuous management of the sanitary emergency during the event and that will offer to the members of the course the opportunity of observing and supporting the hosting healthcare professionals in providing medical assistance on the day of the race.

The training objectives include that the end of the course participants will be able to foresee individual risk factors for

injuries and diseases that are connected to the race using the base data that are available at the moment of the subscription.

To adopt new approaches to supplement and enforce traditional epide miologic methods.

To delineate the strategies of action to reduce potential risk of fatal accidents during the resistance race.

To explain the base principles of triage.

To assist people who enter the medical tent during an event.

To apply the use of medical algorithms so as to manage injuries and common events occurred during street races.

To delineate a strategy to evaluate the differential diagnosis and to provide with an appropriate treatment the runners who have fainted during or after the resistance event.

To perform the prehospital care treatment for stress heat stroke; to explain the criteria for the diagnosis of stress hyponatremia and its role when performing an appropriate treatment.

To implement the passages of the temperature tracking and/or the heating for hypothermic athletes.

THE HISTORY OF ROME THROUGH ITS MUSEUMS FREE ADMISSION FOR MARATHON RUNNERS AND ONE COMPANION

HAVE YOU EVER DREAMED OF BEING SUPERHEROES AND HAVING THE POWER OF CLEANING THE CITY ROME?

On 19th March take part with your friends or your family in the first team plogging time competition of the world. The Plogging competition is a time sports competition which many ploggers teams can participate in – whose purpose is to walk along a determined path while collecting as much rubbish as possible within the determined time. The competition starts from Piazza di Porta Capena and terminates at Circo Massimo.

Every team must be composed by 8 pluggers: two ploggers for each waste category (1 man 1 women/1 adult 1 child). The categories of waste that must be collected in every part of the race are glass, plastic, paper and unrecyclable waste / cigarette ends. The ploggers can move along the path of the race running either slowly or fast. The first three teams that will reach the podium will receive a prize.

Equipped with gripper and gloves, let the mission begin!
