Peak Travel Periods

May–September is ideal for visiting Machu Picchu and the Amazon, offering dry conditions and excellent wildlife viewing. The Galápagos Islands are a year-round destination, with peak demand from June–September and December–January.

Expert Advice

For fewer crowds at Machu Picchu, travel in April–May. In the Galápagos, December–May offers superb snorkelling visibility. The Amazon’s wet season from December–May allows for deeper exploration by boat into the flooded rainforest.

For wildlife and exploration, travel in July–August when conditions are at their most accessible. May and September can also be appealing for fewer crowds, though the weather is more variable and access to some regions may be limited.

Depart Reykjavík to explore Iceland’s extraordinary volcanic terrain. Travel through the Hengill volcanic system, one of

Vatnajökull National Park + Vik + Reykjavík Journey into Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe’s largest glacier, which covers nearly 14% of Iceland. Welcome to Oslo, Norway’s vibrant capital, where modern design, rich history and natural beauty come together. Depart Oslo by charter flight, enjoying sweeping Arctic vistas enroute to Longyearbyen. On arrival, embark on either National Geographic Resolution or National Geographic Endurance and set out into the Arctic.

Svalbard

Sail to the archipelago of Svalbard, one of the best places to see polar bears in their natural habitat. You’ll also keep watch for walrus, reindeer, fur seals and the elusive Arctic fox. Explore in true expedition style, letting nature dictate the ship’s day-to-day movements within an immense Arctic wilderness.

DAYS 11-13 DAYS 4-10

Venture deep into the pack ice, and join spotters on the Bridge to scan the water for whales, including beluga, fin and minke. Sail into fjords and bays, where you can kayak among icebergs and dramatic mountains. On board, gain deeper insight into the mysteries of Svalbard as live footage from the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) reveals the hidden world beneath the waters - up to 300 metres below.

Longyearbyen

Disembark in Longyearbyen, a small coal-mining town on Spitsbergen Island, in Norway’s Svalbard archipelago. Transfer to your Arctic retreat, Funken Lodge, a boutique hotel perched above the town with sweeping views of the fjord and surrounding mountains.

Tour Longyearbyen with a local driver-guide, gaining insight into the rich history, culture and distinctive way of life as you visit key landmarks, including the vast Adventdalen. Later, enjoy a memorable evening in a cosy, authentic cabin, gathering around a crackling campfire before returning to your hotel for the night.

Alaska & Canada

Alaska & Canada offer wild landscapes, global cities, and rich Indigenous cultures. Canada is renowned for its natural beauty, from the rugged peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the temperate rainforests of British Columbia.
