From demoted Airman to CMSAF: Where it all began Story & photos by Airman Trevor Temple 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs

F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, WYO. — For Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force David Wolfe, returning to F.E. Warren Air Force Base was more than just a routine visit. It was a return to the place where the trajectory of his life and career changed forever. More than three decades after arriving as a young Airman in July 1992, Wolfe returned to the installation as the 21st CMSAF, visiting Airmen across the base and serving as a grand marshal of Cheyenne Frontier Days 2026. As he reflected on his first assignment, he described a place that challenged him, humbled him and ultimately gave him the foundation that helped carry him to the Air Force’s highest enlisted position. Wolfe mentioned that every Airman would benefit from beginning their career at an Air Force Global Strike Command installation because of the discipline required to support the nation’s no-fail nuclear mission. The demanding environment leaves little room for interpretation, requiring Airmen to learn proven procedures, master technical fundamentals and execute every task with precision. Those expectations, he said, create a strong professional foundation that follows

Cheyenne Frontier Days, the largest outdoor rodeo in the world, is an all-volunteer event relying on community members and Airmen from F.E. Warren AFB to successfully bring together thousands of visitors each year, honoring the rich Western heritage and traditions of Cheyenne.

Airmen throughout their careers. “I wish every Airman’s first assignment was an AFGSC installation,” Wolfe said. “It is a high-pressure, high-stakes environment where the rules are the rules. It builds a strong foundation.” For Wolfe, that foundation was tested almost immediately. Within his first year at F.E. Warren AFB, Wolfe received nonjudicial punishment under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice after making a poor decision. Looking back, he does not minimize the mistake or the consequences. Instead, he credits the leaders around him for refusing to define his career by one moment. “My leaders could’ve flicked me out of the Air Force if they chose to, but instead they gave me a second chance,” Wolfe said. “I have everything that I have in life today because my leaders did not give up on me.” Rather than ending his Air Force career before it began, Wolfe’s supervisors held him accountable while continuing to invest in his development. Their willingness to mentor him through one of the lowest points of his career became one of the most defining moments of his life. Just one year later, Wolfe was recognized as the 321st Missile Squadron Airman of the Year. During that same period, he became one of only two Airman 1st Class defenders on the installation selected to serve as flight security controllers. The dramatic turnaround was not the result of individual talent alone. It was the product of leaders who believed people deserved the opportunity to learn, grow and earn back trust. Wolfe mentioned that good leadership and accountability are critical to bouncing back after making a mistake. “The key is that leaders have to actually give you a full opportunity for redemption. That means, at some point, it’s got to be over, where we don’t talk about it anymore, and accountability has happened. You’ve paid your penalty and they let you move on. So, for people that are in the situation where they’re just trying to step towards that redemption phase, don’t give up,” Wolfe said. “Remind yourself that you’re in this situation because of your own decisions, and that you can make different decisions that will result in a different outcome. Keep that perspective, and you’ll be fine.” Even today, Wolfe remains connected with one of those mentors, retired Chief Master Sgt. Gary Kelly, who attended Wolfe’s assump-

Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force David Wolfe speaks to the Airmen of the 90th Missile Wing during an all call at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., July 24. During the all-call Wolfe spoke about the prioritization of readiness, modernization, a fitness and warrior culture, and taking care of Airmen and families.

tion of responsibility ceremony to CMSAF. Wolfe said the experienced leaders who guided him early in his career gave him lessons that continue to shape how he leads today. Although his assignment at F.E. Warren lasted only about two and a half years, Wolfe said the experiences he gained there established the framework for everything that followed. The successes and setbacks alike taught him resilience, accountability and the importance of surrounding yourself with leaders willing to invest in your future. Those same lessons now shape the message he shares with today’s Airmen. When asked what he would say to Airmen who receive orders to F.E. Warren but are hesitant about the assignment, Wolfe shifted the focus away from geography and toward purpose. Every installation, he said, offers an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. Success is not determined by the location or even the mission itself, but by the people an Airman chooses to help. “Everywhere you go there is someone who needs your help and that’s what it is about, not weather or location,” Wolfe said. “It’s about looking for people to help, and if you pick up that attitude not only will you help others, but you will also pick up two or three lifelong friends in the process.” That perspective gives new meaning to Wolfe’s return to Cheyenne. Shortly after arriving in 1992, he spent 10 consecutive days supporting Cheyenne Frontier Days by collecting trash across the fairgrounds. Wolfe met his wife, Doniel Wolfe, and they had their first child while stationed in the area. More than 30 years later, he returned as a grand marshal in the Grand Parade and rodeo, representing the Air Force before the same community that welcomed him as a young Airman at the start of his career. “It feels surreal to be the grand marshal in Cheyenne Frontier Days because I started my career here and my family started

here. My entire life started here,” Wolfe said. “Doniel and I are honored to be a part of it. This is such a great community that treats our Airmen so well.” Today, Wolfe’s responsibilities extend across the entire Air Force, including Guard and Reserve Airmen, but he said his focus remains rooted in the same principle that shaped his own career. He also rejects the idea that leaders eventually have everything figured out. Instead, he believes leadership requires continuous learning, listening and a willingness to grow alongside the people you serve. “I’m finding out more every day,” Wolfe said. “I want to know all the friction points for our Airmen and their families. My job is to remove those friction points to improve their quality of life so they can remain focused on the mission and each other.” As Wolfe walked the installation where his Air Force journey began, the lessons of his first assignment remained evident. The young Airman who once questioned his future now serves as the Air Force’s senior enlisted leader, carrying forward the example set by mentors who chose accountability over abandonment and development over defeat. It is a reminder that careers are often shaped not by where they begin, but by the people willing to invest in those who are still becoming who they are meant to be. Wolfe also shared that he wants every Airman to know that they are loved. “I hope that they feel that we love them,” Wolfe said. “That’s a strong word and it’s a word that some leaders shy away from. But I’m telling you, the secretary of the Air Force, the under secretary of the Air Force, General Wilsbach, General Lamontagne, me, we love our people. We want them to be happy. Sometimes that love is tough and it’s not always perfect and it’s not easy. But we really, truly care about them, and that we want to make this the best experience for them.”

Army JAG officer urges service members, civilian employees to build ‘true wealth’ by Kirk Frady Medical Readiness Command, Europe Financial readiness is directly linked to mission readiness, a point underscored during a Wealth Building and Estate Planning presentation held July 29 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center’s Heaton Auditorium. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Anthony Osborne, command judge advocate for Medical Readiness Command, Europe, addressed an audience of active-duty service members and LRMC civilian employees, urging them to take active control of their financial futures. “In my 20 years of military service as a JAG officer, I noticed that the U.S. military requires all sorts of annual mandatory training but provides very little training to their personnel on gaining financial intelligence, leveraging the power of their TSP and federal retirement to grow great wealth for themselves and their family members,” Osborne said. “In my opinion, this is a lost opportunity, but it can be remedied with education, planning and drive.” According to military officials, financial literacy and healthy spending habits help service members and families stay focused on financial and overall mission readiness. Financial planning experts warn that a financial burden at home can impact every aspect of a service members life, creating distractions that reduce mission focus and increase stress. Over time, these pressures can

negatively affect relationships, job performance and the ability to deploy. A recent RAND Corporation study reinforced this point, linking financial strain to lower well-being, increased stress and reduced readiness among service members and military families. The report highlighted the importance of financial literacy in improving long-term stability. In his presentation, Osborne also highlighted the danger of consumer debt, noting that the average American, and often servicemember, carries an $8,000 credit card balance. “Compound interest is said to be the eighth wonder of the world, but most people are paying high interest to others via loans and credit cards instead of growing true wealth by earning interest in their own investments,” Osborne said, pointing to the Thrift Savings Plan and IRAs as key wealth-building tools. To combat financial debt and build stability, Osborne advised attendees to live on less than they make, avoid unnecessary debt, and invest in solid-performing IRAs and TSP funds. “Do your homework on your personal finances, talk to someone smart about your situation, and invest,” Osborne said. “Service members should aim for a minimum of 15% of their income invested in TSP or an IRA and grow that percentage to as much as your budget will reasonably support. Make clear goals

and develop a plan to get there.” Osborne emphasized that true wealth extends beyond just finances. “Wealth also includes mental and physical health, social wealth, spiritual wealth, and quality time wealth,” Osborne added. "Learn the trajectory of growing your wealth and live it,”

Experts advise that financial readiness is built through everyday decisions. “By developing healthy financial habits and utilizing available Army resources, service members and families can reduce stress, strengthen resilience and remain focused on whatever comes next,” added Osborne.

ABC in KMC: Residenzstadt Kirchheimbolanden

Eagle bow at the Donnersberg

by Gina Hutchins-Inman 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Kirchheimbolanden is a charming little Palatine town with a medieval center and an 18th‑century princely palace, only about a 20‑minute drive from Sembach. Around 8,000 locals love showing off the picture‑perfect town center — think quaint half‑timbered houses, tiny independent shops, and a pedestrian area full of cafés and ice‑cream spots that are perfect for a relaxed stroll. It earned the title of Residenzstadt when the Counts and later Princes of Nassau used it as a secondary residence, and its past includes a stint under Napoleon during the French Revolutionary era. These days it’s lively, with a busy festival calendar. If you come in on the L401 (the old B40), also known as Kaiserstrasse, you will be welcomed by a Napoleonic headdress and signs marking the distance to Mainz and Paris. History Kirchheim shows up in records as early as 774 and really started to take shape after 1368, when Count Heinrich II of Sponheim‑Bolanden gave it town

rights and had walls, towers and gates built. Over the next few centuries the town passed by marriage into the House of Nassau, and the Nassau‑Weilburg line left its mark on the town’s look and how it was run for about four hundred years. The medieval street plan, the surviving towers and the later palace complex all tell that layered story. Napoleon and the French period From 1792, during the French Revolutionary wars, French troops occupied Kirchheimbolanden. The princely family fled, the palace was damaged and looted, and the area was folded into French administration under Napoleon. After his defeat the Congress of Vienna in 1815 handed the Palatinate to the Kingdom of Bavaria, which ended Nassau rule on the left bank and brought big administrative and social changes through the 19th century. A few small touches still hint at the French era: wooden shutters, narrow alleys with colorful flower pots, and a general bit of Gallic charm in the town center. Most parking spots are free, so you can linger longer in the little shops, boutiques and cafés, but don’t expect any common large chain stores.

Residenzstadt The town earned the nickname Residenzstadt because it actually served as a princely residence. Over time the old castle grew into Schloss Kirchheimbolanden, a palace complex that became a secondary home and court for the Nassau‑Weilburg family. In the 18th century the princes added a Baroque palace and formal gardens, so the place took on all the trappings of a small princely court — administration, courtly events, and buildings that look the part. That concentrated courtly presence is why people still call it a “small residence.” Sights to see Key sights include the Schloss Kirchheimbolanden and its gardens, remnants of the medieval town wall and towers (Apothekerturm and Gray tower), St. Peter’s and other historic churches, plus small museums and the palace‑park ensemble. The town is compact and walkable. Vows in a tower A Hochzeitszimmer (wedding room) is installed in one of the medieval towers (the Grauer Turm) and is presented as a historic, atmospheric space for small

ceremonies and receptions. Local descriptions and photo galleries document its painted decoration and rustic character. The room also has a (symbolic) canopy bed for the bride and groom. Festivals and Cultural Life Kirchheimbolanden is lively in summer thanks to the Residenzfest, a wine-and-culture festival that fills the historic center with music, local food and plenty of wine. The town also hosts concerts, markets and seasonal events in the palace gardens, the Orangerie and the old squares, so there’s usually something going on. All that activity keeps Kirchheimbolanden at the heart of cultural life in the Donnersberg region. Don’t miss out on this year’s Residenzfest from Aug. 8 to 10, and shopping on Sunday. Administrative role Kirchheimbolanden is the administrative heart of Donners– bergkreis, so it’s where county services and offices are based for the surrounding rural towns. Sembach Kaserne belongs to the Union Community of Winnweiler, which is also part of Donnersbergkreis. Other nearby towns include Eisenberg, Rockenhausen and Göllheim.

Donnersberg Right next door is Donnersberg, literally “Thunderhill,” which was a major center more than 2,000 years ago. Back then a huge Celtic oppidum sat on the 687‑meter plateau, a bustling place with thousands of people, markets and crafts — hard to picture when you’re just walking the quiet summit today. Archaeological digs in recent decades have uncovered much of what was hidden for centuries. A clearly visible circular rampart still surrounds the main plateau, a reminder that this was once one of the largest Celtic settlements north of the Alps and a central hub for the region. Finish your visit at the Keltendorf in Steinbach. It’s currently closed for renovations but is expected to reopen in the fall. Local tip: Skip the A63 exit at Kirchheimbolanden and cruise the old Kaiserstrasse instead. It rolls through tiny villages and soft, rolling hills with Donnersberg on your left, and you can almost imagine his majesty personally riding this road two hundred years ago!

LRMC personnel receive Early dental care keeps phase II Intelligence Awareness Spangdahlem Air Base military Reporting Training working dogs’ bite in the fight

by Bernhard Lashleyleidner Landstuhl Regional Medical Center Special agents from the Army Counterintelligence Command conducted Phase II of the annual Intelligence Awareness Reporting Training (CIAR) formerly known as Threat Awareness and Reporting Program, July 21 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center’s Chapel. The mandatory in-person training supplements the Army’s online annual requirement and reinforces the principle of "See Something, Say Something" for Department of the Army Soldiers, civilians, and contractors. Counterintelligence special agents led the interactive briefings focused on identifying and mitigating modern security threats. Topics included recognizing behavioral indicators of insider threats, protecting against cyber intrusions, countering foreign intelligence collection efforts, and safeguarding military information and technology. “We execute globally synchronized operations to detect, deter, and disrupt adversary intelligence collection targeting military technology, personnel, and installations,” said Army Special Agent “Counterintelligence does not investigate criminal activity; that mission belongs to the Army Criminal Investigation Division.” In addition to identifying espionage and insider threats, counterintelligence agents provide operational security training and

support and assess command vulnerabilities to reduce risk across Army organizations. The briefing also emphasized travel security and the importance of reporting foreign travel throughthe Aircraft and Personnel Automated Clearance System. APACS is the Department of Defense’s web-based system used to request, coordinate, and approve official foreign travel, theater clearances, and travel to designated special areas. Depending on destination-specific requirements outlined in the Department of DefenseForeign Clearance Guide, APACS is required for personal travel by military personnel. A key component of the training focused on recognizing and reporting suspicious activities using the Army’s size, activity, location, unit, time, and equipment reporting framework, which helps personnel identify potential indicators of espionage, insider threats, and other security concerns. By conducting live, instructor-led training, Army Counterintelligence ensures the workforce remains vigilant and prepared to protect controlled unclassified information, mission-critical resources, and national security from evolving adversary threats. The counterintelligence special agent said the Army's greatest advantage is an informed and vigilant workforce and every Soldier, civilian, and contractor plays a critical role in protecting the Army’s people, information and capabilities.

U.S. Army Capt. Javier Pino, doctor of veterinary medicine, Veterinary Readiness Activity Rheinland-Pfalz, Spangdahlem Veterinary Treatment Facility, places an oral catheter into Eva, a military working dog assigned to the 52nd Security Forces teeth during a routine dental procedure at Spangdahlem Air Base, July 14. U.S. Army veterinarians from the Spangdahlem Veterinary Treatment Facility and U.S. Air Force dental technicians from the 52nd Medical Group work side-by-side to provide routine dental care, helping ensure the 52nd Security Forces Squadron MWD’s remain healthy and ready.

by Airman 1st Class Kacie Ramos 52nd Fighter Wing A military working dog’s most critical weapon system doesn't rely on ammunition — it relies on a healthy bite. For these four-legged defenders, a toothache is more than a painful distraction; it can also shut down their vital sense of smell and sideline them from the mission. To keep them mission-ready, U.S. Army veterinarians and U.S. Air Force dental technicians at Spangdahlem Air Base are working side-by-side to ensure the 52nd Security Forces Squadron’s canine teeth stay sharp and in the fight. The squadron’s dogs assist in detecting explosives and support law enforcement operations across the installation. Their ability to perform demanding tasks depends on consistent medical care that keeps them healthy, capable and ready to respond. “Without preventative dental care, bacteria can build up beneath the gums, leading to tooth decay, gingivitis and other oral disease,” said U.S. Army Capt. Javier Pino, a veterinarian with the Veterinary Readiness Activity Rheinland-Pfalz at the Spangdahlem Veterinary Treatment Facility. “Routine exams help us identify those issues before they become serious.” To maintain readiness, veterinary personnel perform comprehensive

physical examinations and annual dental procedures. During these cleanings, teams place the dog under anesthesia to conduct a thorough oral exam. Dental X-rays identify problems below the gumline, while IV fluids, airway support and continuous monitoring keep the animal safe. Many oral diseases develop gradually without obvious signs. Left unchecked, they can degrade a dog's primary operational capability. “If they have really bad dental disease, it could affect their sense of smell,” Pino said. “Making sure their teeth are healthy helps keep them ready for work.” For patrol-certified dogs, maintaining a strong bite is just as critical as olfactory health. “(While) our main mission here is explosive detection,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Gabrielle Monteleone, 52nd Security Forces Squadron military working dog handler. “(These dogs) help apprehend suspects when the situation requires it.” Ultimately, these joint dental operations represent something much larger than routine veterinary care, clinic officials said. Every examination, X-ray and cleaning preserves one of the 52nd Fighter Wing’s most valuable force protection assets, ensuring Saber Nation's working dogs remain ready to detect threats and protect the installation.

Army Supply Specialist brings logistic support to highly specialized medical activity

When Cpl. Kaden Morrow enlisted in the Army five years ago, he had one goal in mind: to see the world. Today, that goal has taken him more than 4,000 miles from his hometown in Georgia to northern Italy, where he serves as the Unit Supply Specialist for Veterinary Readiness Activity, Italy.

VICENZA, ITALY — When Cpl. As a 92Y Unit Supply Specialist, Morrow is responsible for ensuring Soldiers have the equipment and supplies they need to accomplish the mission. While supply specialists are found throughout the Army, his assignment to a medical organization has provided experiences that many in his military occupational specialty never encounter. “My previous assignments were completely different,” Morrow said. “When I arrived here, I had to learn an entirely new system and become familiar with medical equipment I’d never worked with before.” Unlike many Army units that rely on

the Global Combat Support System-Army, Veterinary Readiness Activity, Italy uses the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support system, requiring Morrow to quickly adapt to a new way of managing equipment and supplies. Rather than seeing the learning curve as an obstacle, he embraced it. “I asked a lot of questions,” he said. “I wanted to understand what the equipment was, how it was used and why it was important. It gave me a much broader understanding of what the Army does and how logistics supports different missions.” Before arriving in Italy, Morrow served with the 103rd Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Battalion, where he supported military intelligence operations. Working in both intelligence and medical organizations has expanded his knowledge far beyond what he expected when he first enlisted. “Every assignment teaches you something different,” Morrow said. “The more experiences you have, the more well-rounded you become.”

Supporting Veterinary Readiness Activity, Italy also means supporting teams spread across Europe. The organization has personnel located throughout Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Turkey, making communication and coordination an important part of Morrow’s daily responsibilities. “It can definitely be challenging when you don’t see everyone face-to-face,” he said. “But when everyone communicates and works together, it makes the mission much easier. It also builds stronger relationships across the organization.” Although his work keeps him busy, Morrow has also taken advantage of living overseas. Exploring Italy and traveling throughout Europe has allowed him to fulfill the reason he joined the Army in the first place. “I wanted the opportunity to experience different places and different cultures,” he said. “Being stationed in Italy has allowed me to do that.” Looking back on his career, Morrow encourages junior Soldiers to stay patient

and make the most of every assignment. “Don’t think where you are today is where you’ll always be,” he said. “Keep working, keep learning and take advantage of every opportunity. You can create your own path if you’re willing to put in the effort.” For Morrow, every new assignment has been another chance to grow professionally while supporting the Army’s public health mission across the European theater. Veterinary Readiness Activity, Italy delivers veterinary medical and public health support across the U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of responsibility. Its Soldiers perform a unique mission that includes food protection inspections, veterinary care for government-owned animals, operational support and public health programs that help protect the military food supply and contribute to force health protection. Through these efforts, the organization plays a vital role in sustaining readiness and supporting military operations across two combatant commands.

The following Soldiers were inducted into the Noncommissioned Officer Corps:

VICENZA, ITALY – Veterinary Readiness Activity, Italy formally welcomed its newest noncommissioned officers during an NCO Induction Ceremony held July 16, celebrating the Soldiers’ transition into the Army's Noncommissioned Officer Corps and recognizing their commitment to leadership, service and professionalism. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in each Soldier's career as they accepted the responsibilities that come with becoming a noncommissioned officer. As the backbone of the Army, NCOs are entrusted with leading, training and mentoring Soldiers while maintaining the highest standards of readiness, discipline and professionalism. The event brought together leaders, fellow Soldiers, family members and friends to recognize the accomplishments of the newly inducted NCOs and to honor the traditions and legacy of the Noncommissioned Officer Corps. Throughout the ceremony, attendees reflected on the importance of servant leadership, accountability and the enduring responsibility NCOs have to develop future leaders while caring for Soldiers. "I’m honored to be part of such a historical tradition which utterly establishes me as a member of the NCO Corps, 'The Backbone of the Army,'" said Sgt. Jose Avalo, Veterinary Food Inspector with VRA, Italy. "The biggest satisfaction I get as an NCO is to take care of Soldiers and help my team to achieve whatever mission we have on hand."

world? Then Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park may well be what you’re seeking. Germany’s third biggest national park contains the largest nature reserve on the Baltic coast, filled with cliffs, lagoons, incredible dunes, and spits (which are narrow sand formations that snake outward toward the sea). Here are four tips for making your trip to Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park a memorable one. See the park by boat Since 80% of the park is water, a boat offers a fantastic way to see it. The place is famous for its marine life: it contains endangered species like the common harbor porpoise and the gray seal, and has more than 160 species of birds. Speaking of birds: every August, Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park transforms into Europe’s largest roosting spot for cranes. More than 30,000 of the enormous winged creatures arrive every year. The sights – and the sounds – are legendary. There are strict rules on where you can sail, and how close to the shore you can get. But access is allowed in some parts of the park for sailboats and motorboats. The best way to see it, though, is via a kayak tour. It’s an awesome way to spend a few hours, but make sure you pick a day that isn’t too windy!

and salt levels. In logical German fashion, catch and release fishing is prohibited. If you catch something, you need to be prepared to make a meal out of it. So bring cooking equipment, too! Or at least a cooler to transport your dinner back to your kitchen. Watch the world go by at one of the park’s renowned vantage points Sunsets (as long as the clouds cooperate) do not disappoint at Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. Sunrises are too. Sometimes, the clouds put on amazing shows. You could do worse than to just spend an hour or two watching the world go by at the park. The first great place to do this is Pramort. This jaw-dropping series of sand dunes (more than 40 feet high, in some places) has observation decks to protect the fragile vegetation that grows in the dunes. The Höhe Dune, which is the largest unforested dune field on the Baltic coast, is even cooler. Follow the wood walkways to observation decks and just take in the scenery as you walk. An unforgettable experience. Getting to Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park By car, the park is approximately 8 hours from Kaiserslautern and Stuttgart, and just over 7 hours from Wiesbaden.

Go fishing on one of the park’s many beaches If you like to fish, you’ll love Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. If you’re not into fishing, then this is a good place to give it a go! The best part? You have a real shot at never catching the same type of fish twice. The park contains nearly 50 species of fish, which reflects the diversity of the environment: there are many different currents, water depths, water temperatures,

Walk along the beach and through the woods Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park has no shortage of amazing walking opportunities. Strolling along the Baltic coast is endlessly fascinating. Shells, seaweed, driftwood, random marine creatures washed up on the shore – it’s kind of a wonderland. On stormy days, it’s also amazing. You can feel like a rugged sailor – spitting rain in your face, churning waves, the whole deal – without worrying about being shipwrecked. There are also many other great walking trails, all of them extremely well signposted. Venture deep into the woodlands, where beautiful alder forests grow between sand dunes and swamps. Take a guided tour through the Daras Forest, which is the largest unbroken stretch of forest in the park. You won’t be disappointed. If you’re looking for a challenge, try the Dornbusch Hiking Trail. Generally regarded as the most difficult trail in the park (and it isn’t that difficult), the loop is just shy of five kilometers and usually takes a bit more than an hour to complete. The views are amazing, as is the bird watching. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but must be kept on a leash.
