Senior Airman Gerald Walker, 728th Air Mobility Squadron hydraulics system technician, was one of 150 students from the 521st Air Mobility Operations Wing and 512th Airlift Wing completing an unprecedented training opportunity on a C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft on Ramstein Air Base from Nov. 26 to Dec. 6, 2018. Lt. Col. Robert Ryder, 521st AMOW deputy commander for operations, said maintaining current and uniform training for all Airmen within the 521st AMOW is a difficult endeavor, particularly for Airmen belonging to geographically separated units of the wing, such as Walker who is stationed at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. “The mission is very important to me,” said Walker. “If we don’t get a job done and a plane doesn’t take off See LEADERS KNOW, Page 2

New year, new functional fitness area Story and photos by Erinn Burgess U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz The Functional Fitness Area on Rhine Ordnance Barracks reopened Jan. 10 for all Department of Defense ID cardholders following a move of the equipment from Bldg. 237 to the new location in Bldg. 229. The U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation facility is manned from 5 to 8 a.m.,

Monday through Friday, but DoD ID cardholders may check out a key from the ROB Fitness Center, Bldg. 172, to use the facility between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. The facility contains a variety of equipment, to include rigs, barbells, rowing machines, air bikes, medicine balls, kettlebells, glute ham developers, a rope, rings and more.
