Photo by Senior Airman Jimmie D. Pike

Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark, 3rd Air Force and 17th Expeditionary Air Force commander, tours the 86th Airlift Wing Dec. 2 on Ramstein. During his visit, Clark was able to meet with Airmen throughout multiple organizations to learn about their duties and how they impact the 86 AW mission. During an “All-Call,” Clark spoke about the importance of taking care of family, wingmen and accomplishing the mission. Third Air Force and 17th Expeditionary Air Force are U.S. Air Forces in Europe and U.S. Air Forces Africa's component numbered air forces for U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command. Based at Ramstein, 3rd Air Force and 17 EAF direct all USAFE-AFAFRICA forces engaged in contingency and wartime operations in the EUCOM and AFRICOM areas of responsibility. Along with its headquarters operations directorate, the command is comprised of 10 wings, two groups and the 603rd Air Operations Center. Third Air Force and 17 EAF prepare and employ ready airpower, build partnerships and conduct full-spectrum operations to secure U.S. national interests in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The Ramstein chapel community kicked off the holiday season with the lighting of the official Ramstein Christmas tree Nov. 28 on the traffic

circle outside the Northside Chapel. The annual tree lighting is a chance for leaders from both Ramstein Air Base and the town of Ramstein-Miesenbach to affirm the ever-growing partnership between the two communities, said Capt. Matthew Streett, 86th Airlift Wing chaplain.

“We are one community, Americans and Germans, who value each other,” Streett said. “Through our presence here, through our role in NATO and through a shared vision of freedom, justice and security, we can only complement each other by continuing to strengthen what’s already strong.”
