Urban Sol Entertainment “Urban” the group consists of Rhyno, Hennessy and Royale’ and was started 3 years ago. The new album is called Soulhop is now ready for the world. “There is a musical renaissance going on in the Houston music scene and there will be no safe haven for weak producers and wack emcees. Urban wants to represent the city of Houston the right way; we want the world to respect Houston music artistically. No disrespect to anybody but when Urban steps up you better bring your ‘A’ game”, says Henn. With a mix of hip-hop, jazz, poetry and a dash of street, Urban has a little bit of flavor for every listener’s ear. Soulhop is the group’s first effort so listen and enjoy.

tle t i l a ith new w

When you talk about up and coming producers in music entertainment you have to include Caro Cambric aka (Hennessy, Hen). Hennessy has also been given a gift to move a crowd which has proven time and time again he can keep it moving. Rapping, singing or production Hennessy is up for the task and will raise the bar in production or vocals in the music industry. “So Kanye & Dr.Dre watch out Hennessy is coming.” As for Royale’ the years of music history under his belt and the soulful sounds have taken this producer/musician to a high position in the music scene. When it comes time for the finishing touches and the polishing off a piece of music he has created the group knows the music is in good hands. Rhyno the newest asset to the group he has brought a certain style, some have been known to call it his swagger, some have said its arrogance. The writing Rhyno puts down on paper has become a model for the artist around him. He dares people to make him step his game up. He has only just began and to hear him you would think he was born for this. This trio is headed in the right direction and definitely going to do their part in keeping Houston hot on the scene. “It’s not a job, but a life style!” For more information please visit: www.urbansolent.com

Her warmth and sincerity shines through with abundant sensuality...” Editor Leon Beck of Texas Hot Country Magazine This French and Spanish speaking country girl at heart was born in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and raised in Houston.

“Sounds of Country music has never been better!”

MUSIC ORGANIZATIONS & UNIONS | HOUSTON AREA The two major unions representing musicians are the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). However there are many local unions that work together to improve wages and working conditions for musicians. Unions negotiate and administer agreements with the major recording companies, film and television companies, live music venues and booking agencies. Union agreements designate a basic “scale” wage that the companies must pay to musicians at a minimum and provide for employer contributions to funds designated for health and pension. Joining a union can be very beneficial to artists. Some unions offer job referrals for session and tour work; group and music equipment insurance; and collection of unpaid wages owed to members.

Liquid Sand This Goodbye This Goodbye, quid Sand’s low-up to Aura, eighs in with 7 ongs and a mere 5 minutes of music, roughly half the size s predecessor. In music, however, it seems that size doesn’t matter as This Goodbye proves itself to be a concisely crafted manifestation of the band’s many talents. The CD kicks off with “My Demise,” a dose of adrenaline for anyone with ears, and transitions perfectly into “Away From the World,” a personal favorite that closes with a cooled techno beat and relaxes the listener for “The Emptiness,” a song that maintains the rock style of Liquid but slips into more solemn lyrics. Of course, as the band seems to thicken the tone of the lyrics throughout the CD, the music seems to solidify as well, showing the unity of Liquid’s trio of vocalists. The final track, “Cross,” is an excellent finisher about giving everything and getting nothing in return, a scenario which doesn’t seem to be a problem for this band whose previous albums are now out of print, having sold every copy ever made.

told, this New Orleans band might not seem so bad if they were simply sub-par, but as the crappy version of a good band, their inadequacy shines bright. It’s hard to justify the money for this one when you already own the upgrade.

MOJOE

Classic Ghetto Soul

I’m convinced this band catered themselves to my own personal taste, but I can’t figure out if they started with smooth poetically intelligent rhymes and added music, or started with jazz-inspired instrumentally alive music and added lyrics. Either way, they cheated just to get a good review. The “True Jewels” on this album go well beyond the second track. The old school blues beginning of “V-OO-D-OO C-OOCHIE” is heaven in this modern age of corrupted chart-topping Hip-Hop, and is that a tuba I hear throughout the Texas-born “3rd Coast Anthem?” I can’t say enough about the lyrics, blessed with a flawless vocabulary of rhymes and themes, as well as references to legends like Marvin Gaye. From beginning to end, Funky is simply too cool for words, Lowerline t that statement applies to The Clearer I See arly every track on the disc. hat’s that sound? James Jones Stories Another Lone Star rapper, with quite a diehard following from what I understand, but I myself just missed the bandwagon on this one. While the rhy thmic composition of “A Thin Line,” “My Angel,” “Play Hard,” and “I Gotta Thang” do stand out in my mind as worth a possible listen, the beats over the remaining album just feel like more of the same in the genre, with the music failing to entertain my ears long enough for me to even absorb the lyrics. The album would have had a better chance with me as a music-free collection of rhymes, more of a spoken word endeavor, but when you add music to lyrics I tend to expect something of note from the tunes, and it just wasn’t there. The assortment of sounds throughout “Slow Down” made for a nice change of pace midway through the album, but all in all Pimp C’s solo of unreleased freestyles facilitates little more than a polite nod of recognition from me.

Z-Ro

Let the Truth be told The guitar riffs of “The Mule” and “Going Platinum” had me sold on this album before I even finished listening to it, as any rap artist whose music pays homage to its roots (that being Jazz and classic R&B) is immediately worthy of praise in my book. Add in the exceptional rapping displayed

throughout, team-ups with Lil’Flip and Ashanti, and more hooks than a tackle box, and you’ve got something that every fan of music should own. While every track doesn’t having me drooling, you can’t expect a 17-song album to appeal flawlessly to everyone, and he sp r e a d eaves plenty or all. From the mile -inducing Don’t Wanna urt Nobody” to he ill guitars in “I’m a Soldier,” this Texas-bred artist’s latest venture is slated to help finally show the entire nation that the best rappers are neither East nor West coast, but straight “From the South.”

How To Use Record Pools To Test-Market Your Next Hit! Record pools are DJ Membership organizations that give you costeffective access to the radio, club and mobile DJs. Essentially DJs pay either monthly, quarterly or yearly dues to be a record pool member. In exchange for paying membership dues, the record pool distributes new music to the DJs in either CD or vinyl formats. Normally the DJs are required to give feedback or listener response to the pool director in a timely fashion. The DJs may report to the pool director once a week. When the DJs have sent in their feedback reports the pool director compiles a chart list that is distributed to record companies via fax and/or email. The chart list is sent regularly. It may be sent once a week or twice a month. Record pools are one of the most cost-effective ways to either generate a buzz or monitor a potential hit. It should be noted that record pools tend to work best for styles of music that are played in clubs i.e. Dance, Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Trip Hop, etc. One of the reasons that there may be a club or dance remix to a song is so it may be played in a night club setting. Many record pools have regular meetings either bi-weekly, monthly or quarterly. Actively attending these meetings is a fantastic way to meet the DJs that can help break your record. By actively attending I mean attending these meetings prepared to network. Make sure you have business cards, flyers and other promotional material to distribute to 26

Now, let’s say that you are an independent record company in Atlanta, Georgia, and you’re preparing to release a CD. Before spending all your advertising dollars in Atlanta, you will want to test market your first single using record pools in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Florida. After a few weeks you might find that your single is getting a so-so response in Atlanta, but in Birmingham, Alabama, and South Carolina your single has the potential of being this year’s summer hit! Since, Birmingham and South Carolina are only a two and three hour drive from Atlanta respectively it might make good sense to spend more of your advertising dollars in those areas. This would increase your opportunities for creating a street buzz faster and

Before spending you hard earned money from your day job pursuing your music career at night, consider record pools as a cost-effective method of test-marketing your next hit!
