About Riverside

UCRiverside is one of ten campuses in the prestigious University of California system. It is renowned for student accessibility to nationally and internationally recognized faculty.

All of our housing communities provide a collegial living-learning environment, conveniently located on UCR’s park-like campus in Riverside. Our inland Southern California location enjoys a year-round temperate climate and exceptional quality of life.

We are within an hour’s drive of world-class beaches and resorts, skiing and snowboarding, golfing and mountain climbing. There are

enough entertainment options to satisfy any desire, including Disneyland and downtown Los Angeles, wineries and apple orchards, professional sports teams, live theater, and a plethora of shopping and dining and entertainment choices.

You can literally spend the morning snowboarding at Big Bear Mountain, the afternoon surfing off the coast of Newport Beach, and still catch an L.A. Dodgers game that night.

And with direct train service from Riverside to downtown Los Angeles, you don’t even need a car to enjoy all the amenities of America’s secondlargest city.

There’s a lot more to on-campus housing than just housing!

As much as going to college is about the big things — classes, exams, getting a degree — it’s also about the little things: making independent choices, making friendships, making your mark.

Our communities are the only place you’re likely to encounter an impromptu study session in the hallway, a philosophical discussion over late-night pizza, or find common ground among a sea of strangers.

What’s more, where you live during your time at UCR will actually impact the quality of your college experience. In campus housing, activities and amenities have been specifically designed to enhance your studies and help you achieve your personal needs and professional goals.

Want proof?

National studies have repeatedly shown that students who live on campus are more successful, are more involved, have greater contact with faculty, report higher GPAs, and are more likely to complete their studies on time, when compared to those who live off-campus or commute. You can Google it!

Then there’s the human factor — our professional staff and trained student advisors — that transforms our 12 housing communities into the sort of safer, more comfortable, and more nurturing environments that help students thrive.

Whether you’re a First-Year student leaving home for the first time, a Transfer student looking to acclimate to a new campus, or a Continuing student hoping to ensure that you get the most out of your time at UCR, there’s an on-campus housing option that’s right for you.

We can’t wait to welcome you to your new home away from home!

FIRST-YEAR HOUSING

A Year Firsts of

From the traditional halls of Aberdeen-Inverness (A-I), Dundee, and Lothian, to the suite-style Pentland Hills, all First-Year/Freshman residents receive the same resources to succeed: a fully-furnished room (Double, Triple, or a very limited number of Quads and Singles), access to delicious, nutritious meals, safer limited-access facilities, 24/7 assistive services, and an enthusiastic community of future friends and caring staff. All of this is located just steps away from main campus classrooms, events and resources!

ROOMMATES

Before arriving for your first year, you will have the opportunity to go online and choose your own housing space and roommate(s)—perhaps a friend or someone you find common ground with during the roommate selfselection process. Or, our experienced Housing team would be happy to make your roommate and room assignments for you based on your provided housing preferences.

Even when matched with a student they do not know, the overwhelming majority of residents (more than 97%) report positive roommate experiences. It turns out that using courtesy, communication and compromise go a long way toward creating a successful roommate relationship. Our live-in staff are available 24/7, to assist you in your endeavors

TRIPLES & QUADS

We want you to have a great housing experience at UCR, whether you have one roommate or two...or even three.

Triple and Quad (4-person) rooms offer some advantages, including lower costs and the chance to make more friends. On the other hand, you do get a bit less space and privacy.

The fact is, students in Triple and Quad rooms report being overwhelmingly satisfied with their living arrangements and, if given the opportunity later, nearly all of them would choose against relocating from their Triple or Quad to a Double.

LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITIES

The Beauty of Community

Introducing An Immersive Living Experience

WHAT IS A LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITY?

A Living-Learning Community (LLC) is a hall or community specifically reserved for students with common academic interests (e.g. an Academic LLC dedicated to residents in the same major or college) and/or students who have similar interests in shared lived experiences (e.g. an Experiential LLC where personal lived experiences are celebrated and supported). Students that live in LLCs participate in specific activities that aim to benefit their personal, social, academic, and career goals.

WHY MIGHT I CHOOSE TO LIVE IN AN LLC?

LLCs provide an experience for students to develop skills that can support their broader success at the university. You should anticipate to be active in your LLC through different events and discussions offered throughout your time residing with us. Discussions focus on the specific outcomes of each LLC, the intersecting themes and

identities between them, as well as our overall residential experience.

HOW DO I SELECT TO LIVE IN AN LLC?

Space is limited in the LLCs and cannot be guaranteed. We recommend filling out your Campus Apartment Application or Residence Hall Contract as early as possible to secure your space.

Where prompted, you can add the LLC’s that you are interested in and then prioritize them on your application or contract. After you have ranked your preferences, you will be prompted to answer a few short questions regarding your interest in your highest priority LLC.

When you are notified of your Room Selection time period, plan to go online to choose your room and roommate as soon as possible. Your roommate(s) must have the same LLC preferenced as your personal highest priority LLC.

“... whether it’s cultural or educational; you’ll be able to connect with people who share the same interests as you.”
Denisha, 1st-year biological science major

Feast This on

UCR Dining proudly provides delicious, nutritious, and sustainable meals that touch the heart and nourish the mind.

Just as today’s residence halls are very different from old-style dormitories, UCR’s residential restaurants are a world apart from conventional college cafeterias.

The restaurant at Lothian and the two-story Glasgow restaurant were designed to create a sense of community — comfortable social hubs focused around food, with high-speed wireless internet and all-you-care-to-eat meals at multiple food stations.

Next to favorites like pizza, burgers and burritos, you’ll find healthy vegetarian and vegan fare; halal and gluten-friendly options; spa waters and other alternatives to sugary beverages; salad bars with locally sourced, in-season fruits and vegetables, including items grown in UCR’s famed citrus groves; and international entrées inspired by cultures across the globe.

Dining caters to your needs every step of the way.
