PROJECT: Chicago Tower located on a previously empty riverside site in the north loop of Chicago sits a 375-foot-tall tower designed to integrate both the contexts of its sight and the surrounding buildings. The tower’s site design serves as a seamless continuation of the existing riverwalk creating a public space that spans from street level to river level. The context of the public space is continued from the exterior into the interior of the building creating performance and exhibition space visitors both inside and outside the building. The building uses a sight-spanning cantilever to provide abundant work space for artists and uninterrupted views and lighting. This cantilever also shades the public space below further merging the inside and outside world. The main vertical massing of the tower serves as the residential space within the building. Within the vertical massing dispersed throughout are common spaces with unique programming corresponding to size and orientation. Uniting all the residential spaces is a series of connected atriums spiraling around the core of the building. The result of this is a building with unique floor plates on every level and a building that has its own urban fabric through the implementation of public and private spaces. 4

PROCESS The facade design was developed through an interactive process. The original goal was a facade that was to be simple in its own form while flexible enough to reflect the more radical aspects of the building beneath, which in this case was the massing and programming. To reach this goal I looked to fabric draping and liquid as inspiration as they are both fluid and flexible in form. These explorations resulted in two facade studies, one a perforated flowing surface that followed the massing of the building using parametric design to respond to the massing’s extrusions. The other one took on a more simple and linear pattern that through scripting took the light refractions of water to create dramatically curved columns. Both of the designs were combined to make a final script that both responded to the form of the building’s massing and the light refractions to create these undulating columns that serve as orientation and shading.

PROJECT: Artist Residence This structure is a live-in art gallery envisioned in the Benton Park neighborhood of St. Louis. The structure was designed for an artist who we were inspired by the work of, and in this case the artist is Theaster Gates. The structure comprises gallery, work, and living space and sits on a sloped plot of land. The program for this structure is formed by two L-shaped walls at the front and back that provides privacy and structure. These walls also provide a façade that fits with the context of the surrounding neighborhood. Within these walls that insulate the building are the facilities including bathrooms stairwells ramps and elevators. Cutting through these Dual L-shaped walls are stacked trapezoidal extrusions, inspired by previously made concrete castings, which hold the gallery, working and living spaces, they are stacked to provide spaces that’s lighting, and scale are both connected to the purpose within the building and art being displayed they also frame views for visitors, and both obstruct and open sight lines. 16

PROJECT: Play Space
This project explored a possible addition to the existing St. Louis City Museum and takes the form of an active play space. This design was focused on addressing the action of climbing and the forms of this structure are inspired by wood bending. The space is designed for all ages but caters to children. PROJECT: Bivouac The Project focuses on two main deliverables. The task set before us was to design a bivouac structure and wearable body devices inspired by the landscapes of dystopian stories. These structures were envisioned to exist in a post-climate change world. Though as designers and students, we would much prefer to create structures that prevented climate change, this project envisioned the worst-case scenario, with a world beyond repair. Both designs are inspired by the words of the book Dune and the designs take inspiration from the pattern of desert sand dunes, with both using a repetition of the same form. The bivouac curves and layout consider heavy desert winds and factor in temperature’s correlation with

the desert sun’s angles. The accompanying wearable device which inspired the bivouac is a pack designed to carry memories of a pre-climate change world for educational purposes.

PROJECT: Sculpture This Architectural sculpture was created from rice paper placed on a foam board and cardboard skeleton. The rice paper is semi-transparent allowing for lighting to pass through and the skeleton was designed to project sharp shadows. The designed was created in response to the question “what would a place of great importance look like to you.” So I created this space to reflect a similar feeling to a place of worship. However this structure was designed to seem special to a person of any belief.
