From 1823 every town needed to have a fire station in order to ensure the safety of the people. In 1871 the volunteer firefighter brigade was founded. On Monday we had the chance to visit this fire station which is located in the city of Pápa and its name is Pápa Hivatásos Tűzoltőság (Pápa Professional Fire Station) .We were introduced to its brief history regarding their achievements and their responsabilities that each one of the firefighters has. We happened to shortly meet the head of the fire station who proudly greeted us. After the beginning, one of his colleagues walked us around and inside the building, explaining the procedures in case of an emergency. Two of the firefighters managed to simulate an emergency, quickly answering the call of duty. They
only had 2 minutes to fully change their clothes and prepare the trucks for leaving. This is only a matter of seconds when it comes to saving a life. We had the opportunity to wear the uniform and feel the actual weight that it has with all the tools, which is 30 kilograms. Later on, the guide showed us the special trucks equipped with the right gear for every type of problem, giving us the feeling that people can always rely on these heroes. Based on the tour and the detailed information that was offered to us, we can say for sure that we won’t regret not even a second of this wonderful and inspiring experience.
