All partners’ contribution Career fairs Online job search
In Austria we have a state-run agency called AMS (Arbeitsmarktservice) that tries to place people, mainly people who have lost their jobs and have troubles fining new ones. Karriere.at Then there are forums like Karriere.at, an institutions that puts together employers and possible employees. There you can find local job offers, advice for job applications, descriptions of jobs and a calculator for your salary. On top oft hat, Karriere.at conducts survey on topics like work-life balance. HAK Meets Business At school we have an annual job fair called HAK Meets Business, where several organisations present themselves and talk about what they have on offer. This year that was on Wednesday, 15 February 2017, and the following companies were present: Insurance companies: Oberösterreichische Versicherung, Wiener Allianz Banks: Oberbank, Sparkasse The Accounting firm KPMG The retailer SPAR First the representatives talked about what jobs they had on offer, and then there was a penal discussion about job application procedures and things to avoid when applying for a job. It turned out marks are important for special jobs where specific skills are required. In case more creativity is needed, it is not so necessary to have excellent marks, e.g. in accounting. The question starting a family was also covered. Although it is no longer allowed
to ask whether a woman wants to start a family, the general feeling the representatives passed on was, yes. You can , but if possible not immediately. The aspect of working from home was also dealt with – depending on the task this is definitely an option. HAK Business Training This is another aspect of getting handson experience in the world of work. Students from the fourth forms go in for a one-week training period at a company. Also our project group of last year took part in that scheme.
Placements were in banks or insurance companies, but also local and regional government offices and trading companies like textile or hardware traders. The main aim is to get to know how work is organised in a company and what kind of work hast o be done. Austrian team
