CATALOGUE OF WORKS FOR SALE
NOVEMBER 2024
For this collection of new work, artist Kate Malone re-considers her classic forms; including pineapples, pumpkins and gourds. Showcasing many of the artistic qualities developed over her forty-year career, this collection celebrates her new book, Force of Nature: The Art of Kate Malone.
Renowned for her unique and highly skilled handling of clay, Malone’s pots distil the power and energy of nature. Personal observations and fantastical translations of growth patterns and natural abundance continue to inspire her whilst captivating an ever-increasing audience.
All the works of art created for this presentation are available for sale, and can be viewed by appointment at a special exhibition in Adrian Sassoon’s new premises in Belgravia.

Kate’s primary focus has been the single vessel. Her many highly varied thrown or press-moulded bodies acting as the bare canvas for the creation of sculptures inspired by the organic world and its diverse fruits.

Crystals form in the glaze because of an oversaturation of solutions. This process is similar to the natural formation of diamonds, emeralds and even coal, growing in the Earth’s crust. I typically use two base glazes that I colour to gain a vast palette of possibilities. One is opaque and the other is transparent, and each form crystals in their glassy molten matrix .

Malone is not an excessive colourist. For many years now she has confined herself to a limited palette of greens, blues, honeys, whites and blacks, dictated by the capacity of her glazes and kiln. Her genius lies in her ability to extract from those pigments a vast spectrum of hues.
