A NOTE FROM ADRIAN SASSOON
Thirty years ago, I was asked to consult on the ambitious renovation of the 88-metre explorer yacht Arctic P, led by the remarkable Claus Kusch. That project opened the door to another commission, working on a 102-metre new-build for a very different family. Since then, I have been fascinated by yachts, drawn to the extraordinary variety and originality that owners and designers bring to each project.
Yacht interiors welcome the art I deal in. These are contemporary pieces crafted from traditional materials including porcelain, glass, silver and stone. For 30 years I have collaborated with renowned yacht designers, attended BOAT International’s Superyacht Design Festivals in Kitzbühel and continue to sit on their selection panel for the BOAT Artistry & Craft Awards. I maintain longstanding relationships with owners and crews who have deepened my understanding of the experience and impact works of art can offer on board yachts.
From four-day cruises in the Mediterranean to four-week expeditions in Antarctica, I have had the privilege of sailing with works of art I have placed on board. Through observing at first-hand how owners, guests and crew engage with them, I have witnessed time and again how these objects enhance and transform an interior, making it more personal.
