Thank You for all of the Input In April, we sought out as much feedback as we could get to help us put together Eau Claire County’s Aging Plan for 2019-2021. We called the in-person meetings ‘listening sessions’. Multiple people commented that they were attending to listen. Little did they know, the listening was for the ADRC to do and the talking was for those that attended! We are so grateful to everyone that took the time to attend an in-person listening session, respond to our online survey, call in survey and/or paper survey. When it was all said and done we received feedback from over 200 individuals! We asked about combating loneliness, healthy aging, caregiving, dementia and accessibility. After compiling all of the information that we received there were a few common themes that we heard throughout all of these areas. First, almost everyone talked about a need to increase awareness of what programs and resources already exist in the community. We hope that we can continue to tackle this through some new and creative ways over the next three years. But remember, the best way to build awareness is word of mouth so please continue to tell people about the ADRC! Second, we heard a lot of comments about transportation barriers being an issue for people and we will definitely continue to explore this more in depth. Last but certainly not least, there was an underlying theme offering more intergenerational programs and services. For example, providing education to elementary or high school students about brain health and dementia or creating a buddy/mentor program pairing an older person with a student. There are so many great ideas that we were able to gather from all of you! The next step is pulling it all together and writing out the goals that we plan to work on over the course of the next three years. We will definitely be sharing those with all of you once we have them completed. Thank you, again, for taking the time to provide us with your input! It is important to us that Eau Claire County remains a place that helps and supports citizens as they age.
