The Fall Creek Kitchen is one year old already! It has been going very well, and there have been lots of changes and growth. All the meals continue to be made from scratch, yes, even the bread and desserts. We are receiving lots of positive comments about the quality and tasty food which was our goal from the beginning. This new way of doing business has allowed us to operate the program more cost effectively and stretch our dollars even further as we see increasing demand for services due to the aging demographic. The nutrition program has struggled financially for many years. We receive funding through the Federal Older Americans Act and some local county funding which is not keeping up with the raising cost of keeping the program going. In addition to that funding not keeping up, the program relies heavily on the contributions from our participants. These same participants who are on fixed incomes and are battling the rising cost of living. Lately we are seeing a significant decrease in participant donations which greatly impacts the program and the needed income to maintain the current level of service.
This coming year the Meals on Wheels program will need to look into ways to make the program even more efficient. Meals on Wheels is asking for your help. If you have ever considered making a donation or making an additional donation to Meals on Wheels now would be a great time.
