On behalf of: CHIPPEWA VALLEY ADVOCATES

Are you a take charge kind of person who enjoys being in the know regarding legislative bills afecting your well-being? Chippewa Valley Advocates might be for you! These Advocates come from diferent career backgrounds which contributes to a lively, educational meeting forum. All members are encouraged to voice their concerns pertaining to issues that afect older adults and persons with disabilities. Our interactive meeting format allows members to learn from one another and make the most appropriate advocating plans.

We will be advocating in Madison this Spring. Therefore we are examining current proposed bills in Wisconsin with the intent to select one to present as a group. This will hopefully make for a more impactful “ask” for our legislators to consider when preparing the next state biennial budget.

Meetings are held monthly via Zoom making participation easier due to the distance some must travel. I will also be hosting two or three meetings in person each year which will ofer more specifc advocacy training. One of these yearly in-person trainings will be sponsored shortly before going to Madison to prepare us better for our meetings with legislators.

Join us for a regional meeting! You will also get to meet your advocacy counterparts in neighboring counties. We are the voice of older people, people with disabilities and those who care about them. Your voice is needed because many of the people we are advocating for, are vulnerable and unable to represent themselves!

Interest or questions can be directed to Patricia German in two formats: Telephone at (715) 226-5361 or Email at germanp@my.uwstout.edu

Upon contacting me, I will send you a Zoom link to attend a monthly meeting allowing you the opportunity to decide if becoming a Chippewa Valley Advocate meets your interests.

Health Dept. ofering well water testing drop-of service from March 1-April 30

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is partnering with Augusta Library, Augusta City Hall, Beaver Creek Reserve, Fairchild Library, and Simple Traditions Clinic to ofer drop-of sites for community members who wish to get their well water tested for nitrate, bacteria, and/or other metals (testing is for homeowner’s knowledge only). Here’s how it works:

• Pick up sample bottles during locations listed above during business hours.

• Fill up the sample bottles after 6am on the day you plan to drop it of.

• Drop of flled sample bottles at these locations during listed times (Augusta Library- Tuesdays, 9am-7pm, Beaver Creek Reserve - Sundays,12pm-4pm, Fairchild Library – Tuesdays 10:30am-5pm, Fall Creek LibraryTuesdays, 10am-6pm)

• The Health Department will mail you a bill for testing fees. Typically, we email/mail bacteria and nitrate water test results within two business days. If your results say your water is unsafe, our team can recommend optional tests or treatment. They can also share information about potential Wisconsin DNR fnancial assistance for well treatment.

Regularly testing the water in your home's private well ensures that it is free of contaminants and safe to drink. We recommend testing private wells for bacteria and nitrate each year, if there is a change in your water’s color, taste, or smell, or if any work is being done on your private well. The total cost of a bacteria and nitrate test is $46.

If you have any questions about the well water testing drop of service or other questions, please visit the website at wells.echealthdepartment.org or call them at 715-839-4718.

Convenient pick-up locations all around town with varied pick-up times for meals. No assembly required, only delivering a hot nutritious lunchtime meal to homebound individuals who need them! A fun and easy activity to do alone, or with coworkers, friends or family!

March for Meals is a campaign for the Meals on Wheels program and our participants. Here is how it works: For a one-time donation you will sponsor meals for our local Meals on Wheels Participants at various levels of support.

The Meals on Wheels program in Eau Claire County serves a hot, made from scratch, meal to approximately 450 homebound seniors every weekday. All the meals are made locally in our kitchen located in Fall Creek. We believe that good nutrition will help seniors maintain healthy minds, bodies, and ultimately their independence. Some of our program funding comes from the seniors we serve in the form of a monthly donation. These participants are often on fxed incomes and are battling the rising cost of living.

Contact Betsy Henck, ADRC Manager at betsy.henck@eauclairecounty.gov or 715-839-6259.
