FROM THE DIRECTOR: “A NEW CHAPTER” I can hardly believe that it has almost been 9 years since the Department on Aging became the Aging & Disability Resource Center. After 9 years it is safe to say that many in the community know us by our new name. We are very fortunate to still have 3 staff members that have worked for the Department ‘pre-ADRC’. One of those individuals is Sue Brown, Elder Benefit Specialist. If you have ever had the opportunity to work with Sue than you will understand how sad we are to see her go - well sad for us, happy for her of course. Sue will be retiring from her position as of Friday, April 14. I asked Sue’s coworkers to share with me what they will miss most and here are some of their responses: “I love Sue’s ability to figure out some of the hardest issues. She never gave up.” “I will miss her tenacity when trying to find the answer to a complex question. I could always count on her to take the time to talk through a complicated issue on a case with me and help brainstorm options. She liked the challenge of situations she had never encountered before.” “I will miss her laugh and her patience with me for asking never ending Medicare questions.” “I most appreciate Sue’s tenacity. She barely hangs up the phone or says goodbye to a consumer before she is on the phone again returning a call to assist another or taking someone else to her office to assist in resolving complicated benefit issues. She is calm, cool, and knows her stuff! I know she will be missed.” “Sue is calm, steadfast and thorough. It’s been a pleasure to work with her.” “Sue has been a superb role model and mentor. Her passion for this position and desire to help others will be missed.” There were many more comments, including several about her amazing sense of humor. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Sue for her many years of dedicated service to Eau Claire County residents. I will miss Sue’s dedication to her job, dedication to the mission of the ADRC and her ability to clearly communicate about anything no matter how complex. We wish you nothing but the very best in retirement! Of course with changes like these, we look for a great individual to step into Sue’s place. I’m happy to share with you that Jessica Smith will be transitioning from her position as Resource Specialist to Elder Benefit Specialist. Jessica has worked at the ADRC for the past 4 years and will be fantastic in her new role! Congratulations to both Sue and Jessica on their new adventures.
With gratitude, JENNIFER OWEN
