Since 1973 March has been celebrated as National Nutrition Month. The purpose of the campaign is to help the public become aware of the importance of good nutrition. This year’s theme is “Celebrate a World of Flavors.” Nutrition isn’t a one size fits all, we are all unique with different cultures, backgrounds, and flavor palates. Eating a healthy diet should look different from one person to the next. Each week in March we highlight a different skill to help personalize your nutrition. Consider focusing on one or all of these goals.
Week one: Eat a variety of nutritious foods
Include food from all food groups Learn how to read a Nutrition Facts Label Incorporate your favorite cultural foods and traditions
Week two: See a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
Ask your doctor for a referral to an RDN Find one who specializes in your unique needs Receive personalized nutrition information to meet your goals
Week three: Plan your meals and snacks

Choose healthy recipes to make during the week Use a grocery list to shop for nutritious foods Make healthful food and drink choices when away from home
Week four: Create tasty foods at home
Learn cooking and meal prep skills Try new flavors and foods from around the world Enjoy your meals with friends or family, when possible
Take a Class! ADRC Mission Statement To help people age 60+ and adults with disabilities secure needed services or benefits, live with dignity and security, and achieve maximum independence and quality of life.
Another great way to learn how to incorporate some of these suggestions is by taking the ADRC’s new class, Step Up Your Nutrition. This is a one-time, 2-hour course that will help you learn about the importance of proper nutrition, protein intake and staying hydrated.
