A favorite quote of mine is from John Maxwell, noted author, speaker and pastor, who said “The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.”
This quote came to mind as I sat thinking back over the last two years about how the Chamber swiftly and continually ‘adjusted our sails’ – many times on a daily basis, in order to provide much needed support, friendship, and resources to members and the community.
Looking forward, I see the need for us to once again adjust our sails and face the next set of challenges - including return to work, recruit talent, overcome employee shortages, supply chain, and health care, to name a few.
How will we do this? Well, as the largest member organization in our region, made up of corporate executives, seasoned entrepreneurs, committed elected officials, experienced nonprofit executives, well established educators, up and coming young business leaders, and more - it is the Chamber’s goal to seek out what is needed to address the challenges head-on. One way we address challenges is by serving as a leading voice in support of community initiatives and projects such as broadband, digital literacy, schools-to-work, and workforce development. By serving in this capacity, we are able to build awareness, share knowledge, create new opportunities and collaborations, and ultimately reach success.
This year will bring new and different challenges along with the ones we are used to facing. We will face them together with leadership, communication, collaboration, focus, and flexibility. I look forward to working closely with each of you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me – for any reason.
Best
regards, Cheryl B. Kuhn, IOM

The law and lawyers matter to everyone throughout Chester County
The law and lawyers have been a vital element of Chester County since it was chartered as one of Pennsylvania’s three original counties in 1682, and they remain a critical part of county life and business today. That’s why this issue of Connections includes a special editorial section titled Legal and Law Profiles.
The Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce has invited member law firms to participate in this section, profiling the firm, a line of business or an attorney. Now more than ever, the business community could benefit from knowing who to turn to for legal advice, said Cheryl B. Kuhn, president and CEO of the chamber.
Carosella & Associates has helped clients navigate the complexities of successfully running a business for more than 25 years. The legal team has the expertise and experience to find solutions to the concerns that keep business owners awake at night. There is a clear message behind the expertise and experience that the West Chester-based law firm provides to its clients: Your business is their business.
D’Amico Law PC a general-practice firm with offices in Kennett Square and Oxford, recently has joined forces with two additional entities to best serve clients’ needs in growing areas. To cover the expanding need for comprehensive estate planning, Chester County Estate Planning Practice has been curated to provide a customer-driven experience. D’Amico Law also works in collaboration with North
Star Tax Appeals to cover real estate assessments needing appeal.
Eichman Law PLLC, mainly focuses on estate planning, guardianships, probate, employment law and contracts. “We keep our areas of practice to just a few areas of law, so that we are able to be really, really good at what we do,” owner Karen Eichman says of the firm, which has offices in Jennersville and Kennett Square.
Ira Binder, an attorney in Oxford, focuses on solving problems for clients. He has 35 years of experience in the legal profession and brings a wealth of expertise in real estate issues, probate, estate planning, corporate law, and general practice matters. During those 35 years, Binder has built a reputation as a lawyer who treats his clients as if they were all family members.
Lamb McErlane PC a regional law firm based in West Chester, and McMichael, Heiney & Sebastian, LLC, a law firm in Oxford, have merged. “The addition of our new Oxford office gives us an immediate presence in the essential southern part of Chester County and affords us the opportunity to provide our wide array of services to companies and individuals located there,” said Joel L. Frank, chairman and managing partner of Lamb McErlane. The firm also has offices in Philadelphia and Newtown Square.
The M. Lyons Law Group may have a new name, but its lawyers have a long and distinguished history in Chester
County. When Michael J. Lyons passed away in 2021, he left behind a life that was spent in service of others. It clearly showed in everything he did, and in the ways that Lyons Dougherty, LLC – the law firm he founded three decades ago – reflected his commitment to his clients. In honor of their friend and colleague, partners Michael J. Hawley, Michael V. Naseef and Scudder Stevens recently gave their Chadds Ford firm a new name: the M. Lyons Law Group.
MacElree Harvey’s personal injury practice leader is local lawyer Tim Rayne. He has been helping Chester County accident victims receive fair treatment from insurance companies for over 25 years. It is why he became lawyer and what drives him every single day to tirelessly strive to get justice for his clients.
Perna & Abracht traces its roots to 1947 and is dedicated to providing a broad spectrum of legal expertise to a diverse community. The firm’s lawyers and staff also spend countless hours in selfless dedication to the community they belong to. In addition to serving as board members and officers on local nonprofits, the entire Perna & Abracht team is involved in numerous activities through support and sponsorships.
Chester County’s legal system goes back to the beliefs of William Penn, who in 1683 asked for “peacemakers ... to hear and end differences betwixt man and man.”
“Thus, Chester County had one of the first alternative dispute resolution procedures in America,” the Chester County Bar Association writes in a history of law in the county on its website.
Many practices of English law were imported, including two courts that still exist today: “the Court of Common Pleas, for general cases in law and equity, and the Orphans’ Court with jurisdiction over widows, orphans and decedents’ estates.”
James Wilson, of the Chester County bar, was one of the first six justices of the U.S. Supreme Court appointed in 1789 by George Washington.
Perhaps the most prominent member of the bar in the county was New London Township native Thomas McKean. He was a judge in Chester County, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, a framer of the U.S. Constitution, chief justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for 22 years and governor of the commonwealth.

The Tri-M Group, LLC 2022 will continue to bring challenges for all companies, including supply chain issues, inflation and lingering COVID impacts. In order for companies to achieve growth during these times, I strongly suggest starting with a one-to-three-year strategic plan that outlines your objectives and any obstacles you may encounter. Secondly, it is very important to stay engaged in the business community, staying in front of coming challenges will be critical. Lastly, networking to share resources and information is a great way to ensure you are being proactive instead of reactive to the challenges we all face each day. The Chamber continues to be a great resource for companies, all you need to do is get engaged.

Create a list of concise impactful communications to engage. Communication type: timely pertinent info, fun fact(s)did you know, staff highlight, client highlight, community outreach/support…then decide who should receive the specific communications. Contact type: clients, active prospects, general prospects.
Think about frequency of communications by Contact type to build and strengthen your connections.
Frequency: active & general prospects two to three times per month, clients one to two times per month. Quick launch (the goal is connecting with your contacts, not creating a prefect plan). Adjustments: If using an e-mail platform (like Mailchimp, Emma) review the last four to six weeks of your e-mail’s communications’ opens and clicks. Creating
dynamic e-mails are essential to connect with Longwood’s Members, Ticket buyers, Community Leaders, and Partners. Our e-mail communications are similar to the Gardens, they need consistent attention, fresh creativity, and targeted care. Think about tending to your e-mail garden to grow and nurture your clients and prospects.

and if they do have a plan, they fail to execute it. This is where a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis can be very helpful for business owners to help identify strengths of the company, weaknesses of the company that could be turned into strengths, opportunities for the business to take advantage of and threats to be mitigated. By doing this kind of analysis you can develop action plans and create goals for the company. Relentless execution of these action plans will determine your ultimate success and set you apart from your competition.

As a commercial real estate professional, I would recommend all businesses, especially the smaller operators in our region, to look at their current real estate situation with an eye toward opportunity. Better location? Using your current location to fund growth for expansion? Lease vs. Own?
Does what you currently pay in rent translate into owning a location with today’s low interest rates etc..? Are you better off finding a more attractive lease situation that preserves cash while enhancing your ability to operate?
Are you in growth mode and would benefit from a “Sale / Leaseback” of your location to give you working capital and free up your focus to be 100% driving your business? Do not let this important aspect of your business go unreviewed. You may be leaving sizable opportunities on the table.

Solutions
Everything has changed, yet, nothing has really changed. Businesses and Non-Profits are facing the same challenges: growing sales, providing quality goods and services, controlling expenses, access to capital, and managing staffing needs. However, for each challenge, the environment has changed and continues to change. Digital marketing evolves so quickly it makes your head spin. The Do-It-Yourself days are gone. Supply chain issues, inflation, rising wages, and a diminishing workforce require constant attention and the search for creative solutions.
OUTSOURCING can offer viable alternatives but must be carefully managed. Be specific about deliverables, timelines, and cost. Closely monitor the work. MANAGING THE FINANCES is absolutely critical. Develop financial projections, implement a budget, and frequently evaluate profitability. As costs are rising, so must your prices!

As business owners, it’s imperative to remain focused on our customers. I encourage you to reach out to your clients, talk to them, and try to put yourself in their shoes. Consider how the last couple of years have affected them. What has changed in their environment, and what new challenges or pain points are they facing? Ask your clients questions such as, “How have your needs and priorities changed over the last two years? How can my business adapt to better meet your needs and expectations? What problem do you wish you had a solution for?”
Based on their response, you might be required to change the product or service you offer to your customer, or perhaps the way it is delivered to them. This might also require advancements in areas of technology, marketing, or operations.
It’s possible that some of the needed changes will require skills and capabilities that are currently lacking within your business. This is where your membership in the Southern Chester County

Chamber of Commerce is incredibly valuable. Through the Chamber, you have opportunities to connect with other businesses that can assist you in closing the gaps and in implementing the needed changes in your business. Through our unique businesses, we can grow together and contribute towards the advancement of our local communities.

It is always helpful to reach out to local elected officials or municipal staff members for a greater understanding of the local landscape. The public sector has a different perspective on business that some business owners may find useful; and, as community allies, you can also find different support systems that you may otherwise be unaware of in your area from these individuals.

Growing your passion into a business is an admirable path to take, but when difficulties arise it is invaluable to have a team of resources and support within close reach. Making connections through Chamber events provides you with a built-in opportunity to connect with professionals from countless backgrounds and businesses. Lean on your community! “Pivoting” was a word used endlessly over the last two years, but it still
rings true. The ability to adapt to the struggles and be flexible with changes will open you up to more opportunities. Remember the reason that you created your business, and the culture that you may have lacked in your previous working environment. If you want to create a solid team, remember that they are choosing to work for you and want an environment that supports, challenges and appreciates them. their way. The economy is quickly moving away from the COVID impacts, and moving toward a trend where the cost of doing business will be the biggest challenge. The longterm trend of inexpensive capital is ending, as a result, we will move towards a much higher interest rate climate, not to mention skyrocketing supply chain costs. Small businesses will need to carefully walk the tightrope between consumer prices and the associated business expenses. This will yield thinner margins and thus soft economic returns for the small business. Watching the bottom line will be crucial for success in the upcoming years.

I have been known to sound corny at times and this is probably one of those times, but I truly believe that relationships are the key to success, whether it be in small business or a non-profit organization. We cannot be truly successful without creating meaningful relationships with our clients/customers, vendors, non-profit donors, and the entire community. So, my guidance would be to be active in the Chamber, being an active member presents so many opportunities to connect (and yes, Zoom counts!) -- to build those meaningful relationships with your customers/clients, vendors, potential donors and well… everyone! Hope to meet you at an event soon!

For more than 25 years, Carosella & Associates has helped clients navigate the complexities of successfully running a business
The legal team at Carosella & Associates has been providing solutions to the concerns that keep business owners awake at night for more than 25 years. There is a clear message behind the expertise and experience that the West Chester-based law firm provides to its clients: Your business is their business.
“I’ve seen just about everything a business owner can see,” said Vincent Carosella Jr., the senior partner who founded the law firm in 1996. “People often come into our office wrestling with situations that have them frustrated and on edge, and I’m able to see their problems from a different perspective. My job is to give them solutions and peace of mind.”
The law firm focuses on business and corporate law, but the attorneys at Carosella & Associates bring another level of knowledge to their work— they can help their clients handle the complexities of running a business because they’ve been in that position themselves. Carosella was a business owner himself, and several of the attorneys previously ran their own law firms. The lessons that the lawyers learned during those experiences can be a real asset for clients. Carosella likes to say that they offer the experience and expertise of a large law firm, while also providing the responsiveness and service of a small law firm.
Carosella was a young entrepreneur when he purchased and operated a solid-waste company in Philadelphia shortly after he earned his undergraduate degree from Temple University. He built that company into something more by learning every aspect of the business over a ten-year period, greatly increasing its value along the way. He eventually sold the solid-waste company to a worldwide firm.

Before long, he was running a plumbing, heating, and air conditioning enterprise he purchased while he was also working his way through law school. At the time, a business attorney became an invaluable mentor to him, and now he’s happy to serve in a similar role for his clients.
“I like it when an individual comes in here with an urge to grow their business but they don’t know how,” he said. “I know how to do it because I’ve lived it. The commodity may differ from one business to another, but the principles of every business are almost always the same.”
Carosella & Associates can help clients with a wide range of business matters, including the following:
• Mergers
• Acquisitions
• Business succession
• Estate planning
• Estate administrations
• Zoning issues
• Construction regulations
• License transfers
• Immigration issues
• Intellectual property law
Additionally, Carosella & Associates helps clients resolve legal matters pertaining to bankruptcy, criminal law, family law, and general litigation matters.
The law firm includes attorneys Christopher J. Amentas, Gary E. Thompson, and Michael J. Reed, as well as paralegals Katarina Tkacova, Diana M. Chryst, and Thi Thu Hang Tran. Carosella said his team is committed to providing professional legal services, advice, and counseling of the highest standard. Each attorney works hard to accommo-
date clients’ hectic schedules, through late-evening office consultations, Saturday-morning conference calls, and Zoom meetings.
Carosella was a member of the real estate and commercial lending department at Stradley, Ronon, Stevens & Young, one of Philadelphia’s most prestigious law firms, earlier in his career, and he is proud of the fact that his law firm has been able to offer clients the large-firm experience at a small-firm price. Carosella and his fellow attorneys have served the needs of nearly 6,000 clients during the last 25 years.
“My past experience with a big firm was very helpful, but I think my greatest assets are my background in business and the unique skill sets of our associate attorneys and paralegals,” he said. “Whenever a business owner comes into this office, whatever business they may be in, I can put myself in their position, because I’ve been in their position before.”

D’Amico Law expands into new areas while maintaining a closeness to the community
A dynamic presence, D’Amico Law PC offers a broad array of legal services within the local community. Anchored by two historic buildings with offices in both downtown Kennett Square and Oxford, D’Amico Law proudly serves clients in these boroughs and the larger, surrounding area. The firm is structured to handle many areas of law and legal issues. This design serves to not only help solve a discrete issue when it arises, but commonly broadens into a relationship to cover a multitude of future needs as well. It is not uncommon for a new client to have their current matter resolved, and choose to come back for the next life-event with which they need help. D’Amico Law is there to assist and has also served multiple generations within families.
As a general-practice firm, D’Amico Law has expansive practice areas. They include general civil litigation, a full range of criminal matters, estate planning, guardianships and estate administration, as well as corporate business matters, personal injury and real estate. The firm also handles family law matters, including divorce, support, custody and adoptions. The goal is always to meet each client’s needs with personal attention and professional service in a small-town setting.
Most recently, the firm has joined forces with two additional entities to best serve clients’ needs in growing areas.
To cover the expanding need for comprehensive estate planning, Chester County Estate Planning Practice has been curated to provide a customerdriven experience. Proper estate planning is the single best way to provide protection and direction for the handling of one’s financial or health care affairs in the event of future incapacity, and after passing, to ensure that an individual’s desire to pass down his/her estate occurs as intended. The services

offered are carefully tailored to meet the individual needs of the client.
Ranging from simple to complex, Chester County Estate Planning Practice looks at the specific life circumstances of each client. A client may call and say “I need a will.” This may or may not be all that is needed. After a thorough interview and assessment, a plan for services is recommended with accompanying explanation. Drafts are reviewed and approved by the client before a formal signing. The client’s documents are presented in a way to help organize the important documents for the future, thereby easing the burden on loved ones who are appointed to handle estate affairs.
D’Amico Law also works in collaboration with North Star Tax Appeals to cover real estate assessments needing appeal, which can result in property tax savings. It is particularly common for new construction to be taxed higher than is reasonable. By using targeted analysis and application of the common level ratio, over-assessments can be identified. Once identified, it is time to consider taking an appeal, and such properties usually result in successful challenges to the tax assessment.
Leading by example is the firm’s leader. Known for her quick wit, zealous advocacy and gregarious nature, founding attorney and namesake Anita D’Amico grew up in Chester County. No stranger to hard work, her personal entrepreneurship is consistent with her family’s other local businesses.
Wanting to make a difference and help her neighbors and those around her, she found the law as her passion. After

graduating from DeSales University and Western Michigan University School of Law, Anita came back home to the Kennett Square area to begin her legal career serving her community. Anita has been in practice 14 years and never shies from a challenge. Her innate ability to put clients at ease and advocate for them is unmatched.

• The law and lawyers
He brings 35 years of experience in
Ira Binder has more than 35 years of experience as an attorney to help clients with a variety of legal needs.
“We are looking to solve problems for our clients, not create bigger problems,” Binder explained. He does this in a bucolic setting, in an office that is nestled deep in the farmland of the historic town of Oxford, in Southern Chester County.
Binder has been a lawyer since 1985, focusing on:
• Real Estate
• Probate
• Estate Planning
• Corporate Law
• General Practice
He has built a reputation as a lawyer who treats clients as if they were all family members.
“The pandemic has been a challenge for everyone,” he said. “It has made me more concerned than
“I treat our clients as I would my own family. A very important part in all aspects of the law is not only how it will affect my clients, but also the next generation. Simply put, we are all about solving problems so our clients don’t have to.”
ever about my clients. We are all feeling vulnerable now. More people than ever are concerned with wills and estate planning, and that also includes real estate issues.
Binder admits his own life challenges, like caring for an elderly parent, have given him an awareness that he hadn’t had before.
“I think that has made me even more qualified to help with estate planning, which our firm is very involved with,” he explained. “We are keenly aware of what is involved in that and the importance of respecting the client’s wishes. We are adept at working with families, and respecting their wishes while at the same time being mindful of the intricacies of managing an estate. There are a lot of emotions involved with estate planning and administration. So I am more dedicated than ever with making sure things run smoothly for our clients.”
Binder said they are equally focused on details when handling small business issues, real estate deals, and other matters of general law.
“It is our job to solve problems, not create bigger ones,” he said. “Our clients have enough to worry about now, so it is more important than ever that we can guide them through their legal issues.”
Binder added, “I treat our clients as I would my own family. A very important part in all aspects of the law is not only how it will affect my clients, but also the next generation. Simply put, we are all about solving problems so our clients don’t have to.”

If there is a single, unbroken thread to the mission of the law firm of Perna & Abracht—one dating back to 1947 when Frank M. Perna began his practice in southern Chester County—it is to establish relationships with the people they serve that last a lifetime.
“We have traditionally tried to structure our firm in order to accommodate clients who remain with us through generations,” said partner Michael R. Perna. “We select our lawyers and our support staff based upon what we perceive as the generational needs of our clients.”
“We pride ourselves not merely on meeting, but on anticipating, our clients’ legal needs at all stages of their individual and corporate lives, from the time when they buy their first home or incorporate their first business to the time when they begin their estate planning for their children and grandchildren,” said partner Jennifer Abracht. “Our team is experienced in various legal specialties which enhance the depth and range of legal services provided to our clients.”
Last year, as part of their efforts to further broaden the range of their portfolio, Perna & Abracht welcomed Ryan G. Borchik, a former assistant district attorney with the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, who practices criminal defense for the firm in addition to handling civil litigation.
This year, the firm also welcomed Meredith L. Lambert, whose extensive experience in civil litigation includes class actions, securities, shareholder disputes, consumer protection and general com-

mercial matters.
In addition to their legal experience, Borchik and Lambert bring to the Perna & Abracht team, both have strong roots in the community they serve: Borchik has spent his entire professional career in Chester County, and Lambert was born and raised in the county.
“We are not just attorneys serving the community: we are part of the community,” Abracht said. “We want our attorneys and staff to have a presence here – to live where they work.”
Although Perna & Abracht is dedicated to providing a broad spectrum of legal expertise to a diverse community, the firm’s lawyers and staff also spend countless hours in selfless dedication to the community they belong to.
In addition to serving as board members and officers on local nonprofits, the entire Perna & Abracht team is involved in numerous activities through support and sponsorships. One of the firm’s most integral and lasting partnerships has been through the Kennett Run, which Perna helped co-found in 1989 and which has become one of the area’s premiere race events – and one of its most charitable. Since its beginning and in partnership with its many sponsors, Kennett Run Charities, Inc. has raised more than $1 million
for local charitable organizations.
“Prior to the start of the Kennett Run, I had been involved with several organizations, and I noticed that there were pockets of individuals who were doing really good work in different sectors of the community,” Perna said.

“They had their individual fundraisers and target beneficiaries, but there didn’t seem to be one major event that by its very nature would bring them all together. So we decided-upon a race, because there are so many dimensions to it: the athletic aspect, the fundraising, race course control, and the esprit de corps of having a fun event that many can become involved in. The race brings together members from so many organizations who never before had an occasion to interact with one another.”
“In order to provide the most effective legal service to the community, we must know the community we are serving,” Abracht added. “Doing that may begin with understanding the impediments that some of our clients have in accessing legal services, but it continues by finding them the resources they need.
“It is also about celebrating our diversity. We encourage our lawyers and our staff to join at least two organizations that may not on the surface have much to do with each other, but both help our community. We tell them, ‘Look around and choose from a multiplicity of worthwhile charitable organizations, because your involvement in this community betters all of our lives’.”

‘You don’t have to be large to be good,’ Karen Eichman says of Eichman Law. ‘You just need to be good.’
Eichman Law PLLC now in its 11th year, is owned by Karen Eichman, Esq., and has offices in Jennersville and Kennett Square.
Karen has been working in southern Chester County for nearly 40 years. A majority of that time has been spent working in and with many of the local mushroom farms, and associated businesses, and the unusual employment laws by which the farms must comply.
Karen spent what she dubs “her formative career years” working for one of the largest mushroom growers in the United States, based in Kennett Square. Karen was hired soon after the Pia family purchased the former Grocery Store Products mushroom growing farm in Kennett Square from the Clorox Company. “They literally went from about 30 employees to 300 employees overnight. There were a lot of things we all had to figure out,” she says. When she departed their employ nearly 28 years later, the organization had close to 1,000 employees.
Through those years, Karen learned a lot about business, and the mushroom industry specifically. Karen’s extensive business experience, coupled with her undergraduate dual majors in accounting and business administration, enabled her to venture out on her own and begin her law practice in 2012, where she was in a good position to understand how to operate her own business, as well as how to help other mushroom-growing farms with compliance and other legal issues.
Today, the firm mainly focuses on estate planning, guardianships, probate, employment law and con-
tracts. “We keep our areas of practice to just a few areas of law, so that we are able to be really, really good at what we do,” she said.
Over the years, the firm’s attorneys have offered services in immigration law, divorce and family law, landlord/tenant law and criminal defense. Karen says that the current aim is to focus on just those areas of law she, personally, does best.
When it comes to employment law, Karen represents both employers and employees. With employers, she assists them with compliance, and provides defense if sued or fined, anyway. She also works with employees who have been treated illegally. “It is a win-win for everyone concerned when we work for employers. By assisting them through often complex labor and employment law issues, there is the added benefit for employees of being treated the way the law defines. This works to everyone’s best interest. We don’t [knowingly] work for employers who intentionally break the law.”
On the flip side, when an employee has been illegally treated on the job, the employee is often left feeling afraid and overwhelmed. “We try to allay their fears and give them a voice,” says Karen. Karen has successfully taken on multimillion-dollar employers on behalf of her employeeclients. Those employers often hire large, expensive firms many may find intimidating. “You don’t have to be large to be good,” Karen says. “You just need to be good.”
In the world of estate planning, the firm often receives calls about “writing a will.” That’s not always just what the client wants or needs. Karen personally works with each estate planning client and takes the time to walk through various scenarios, in order to learn exactly what the client wants to achieve, before suggesting ways to accomplish that goal. Sometimes, what they already have in place does the trick, and “we don’t hesitate to tell them.” Steadfast in the belief that clients value honesty and integrity, Karen asked “isn’t it nice when a lawyer tells a client ‘you don’t need to hire me’?”
“I also like to provide my estate planning clients with depth in their plans,” she said. “I like to prepare them for the contingency that the person they choose to be an executor or agent might not be around when the time comes. So many wills I review list only one or two people, and they may be of the same generation or older, such as my spouse, my parent, my sibling. Having people of varying ages/generations helps to make your plan works long after it is made. Sometimes a corporate entity is appropriate.”
Karen shares her experiences frequently in articles on employment law, in publications such as The Mushroom News. She is also an “expert contributor” (a term the publication uses) and frequent author of estate planning articles
for Kennett Square Neighbors. Karen actively volunteers in the community she serves, through her membership in the American Mushroom Institute, Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce, Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Kennett Square, and she is the vice president of the board of directors of Family Promise of Southern Chester County.
Eichman Law PLLC has offices at 8 Federal Road, West Grove, and 148 W. State St., Kennett Square. It’s available by phone at 484-734-0378 and online at https:// eichmanlawgroup.com.

As the leader of MacElree Harvey’s personal injury practice, local lawyer Tim Rayne has been helping Chester County accident victims receive fair treatment from insurance companies for over 25 years. It is why he became lawyer and what drives him every single day to tirelessly strive to get justice for his clients.
Since graduating law school, Tim has always been a different kind of personal injury lawyer from those portrayed as “ambulance chasers” or on TV promising “big cash payouts”.
Said Tim, “I think a Personal Injury case is about accountability and fairness. In a typical case, the Defendant has broken a safety rule and has caused unnecessary injury and should be held accountable to make the community safer. At the same time, the victim has suffered injuries and has expenses that deserve to be fairly compensated. My mission is to win that fair compensation.”
Tim is one of Chester County’s own. His local roots run deep. He was born and raised and has lived nearly his entire life in Kennett Square. Tim’s parents, Malcom Rayne and Susan Woodward were both local schoolteachers (in fact, Tim’s father was his 5th grade teacher). Inspired by two uncles who were local lawyers, George Brutcher/Kennett Square and Tim Barnard/Media, Tim wanted to be a trial lawyer from a very young age. He was also always entrepreneurial. He started a car wash business as a young teenager, a firewood cutting business in high school and eventually a house painting business in college working his way through the University of Delaware operating the business between classes. Working full time, he went to law school at night at Widener University, where he met his now wife of nearly 30 years, Amee.
CLIENT TESTIMONIALS:
“You fought for me, gave me a voice when I was at my lowest, and I honestly can’t thank you enough. Keep being great!” ~ C.
“Along with your knowledge, wisdom and guidance, you are also honest, caring and have a special kindness about you that meant a lot to me.” ~ B.
In his last year of law school, Tim got a clerking position with local legal legend, William Gallagher who headed up the full-service Chester County firm, MacElree Harvey and the rest is history. He has been at MacElree Harvey for his entire 25-plus-year legal career, ascending from Clerk to Associate to Partner and member of the firm’s Executive Team.
And it is quite a law firm to be proud of—top resources, top lawyers and staff and more. MacElree Harvey has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the “Best Law Firms in America” and by the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of the “Best Places to Work in

PA.” MacElree Harvey has offices located in West Chester, Kennett Square, Philadelphia, Centreville and Hockessin, Delaware.
Today, Tim handles a wide variety of personal injury matters: car, truck, motorcycle, and pedestrian accidents, slip and falls, dangerous product cases, dog bites and medical malpractice.

Tim Rayne
“I love the fact that although I focus my practice in one area of the law, every case is different. I am a storyteller. I dig deep to get to know my client and try to truly understand how and why the accident happened so that I can tell a compelling story and win a fair recovery for my client. My goal is also to teach the Defendant a lesson and make the world a safer place.”
Tim has had some crazy cases in his career: a client who was seriously injured in an operating room fire, a car accident caused by horses that escaped from a local farm and crashed through a car window, and even a man shot in a hunting accident.
In addition to representing clients, Tim has made it one of his missions to educate the public on how they can protect themselves and their families with proper insurance choices. Tim’s book, Protecting Your Family from Accidents, his hundreds of YouTube videos, blogs on his website, www.timraynelaw.com, articles in the Daily Local -- are all aimed to educate people on important legal topics and keep them safe.
“One of the most satisfying things to me is when something I’ve talked about in my articles or videos helps someone. For example, a close friend of mine was seriously injured in a car accident, and I was able to get him a fair recovery solely because he had read my articles and seen my videos about the importance of purchasing Underinsurance coverage.”
Tim’s offices are in Kennett Square and West Chester. In his free time, Tim loves traveling with his wife and his two children, Sierra and Mac and enjoys golf, paddle tennis and, yes, surfing. Ask him about it.

When Michael J. Lyons passed away on Dec. 9, 2021 after a two-year fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis, he left behind a life that spanned 72 years, spent in the service of others.
Born to Irish immigrants and the son of a landscaper

and a maid, Lyons learned the value of hard work early in life, as well as how the positive impact that family and community can make the world a better place. It clearly showed in everything he did, from his love and devotion to his daughter Kelly, his long and selfless dedication to the Brandywine Lions Club and other civic groups, and in the ways that Lyons Dougherty, LLC – the law firm he founded three decades ago – seemed to reflect his commitment to his clients, from small and mid-sized businesses to entrepreneurs, real estate developers, investors and families.
After Lyons’s passing, and in honor of their friend and colleague, partners Michael J. Hawley, Michael V. Naseef and Scudder Stevens recently gave their Chadds Ford firm a new name: the M. Lyons Law Group.
“Mike Lyons had been an institution in the law in Chester and Delaware counties for years, so it just seemed like a natural choice of ours to honor Mike,” Stevens said.
“Michael Lyons was a kind, gentle and genuinely nice man,” Hawley added. “He was also a caring, dedicated and extraordinarily-skilled attorney, a solid business partner, a mentor and the patriarch of a tight-knit business family.”
While the firm’s name may have changed, Naseef, Hawley and Stevens are continuing to weave the tendrils of what Lyons built into what has become a well-established leader in

business and real estate law, with clients throughout Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Lancaster counties as well as in Philadelphia and New Jersey. The firm also offers counsel and representation in the areas of estate planning and probate administration, taxation, personal injury, professional negligence and civil litigation.
One of the hallmarks of Lyons’ relationships with his clients is one that Naseef, Hawley and Stevens continue to employ: the recognition that every client is unique and every situation demands individualized attention. It is an approach that creates client-based strategies, solutions and conversations that

lead to positive outcomes.
“Mike always said to his clients, ‘This is your transaction, your matter, and what is important to you is also important to me,’” Hawley said. “It was always more than merely a legal relationship between Mike and his clients. He also wanted to know who their family was, where they came, what their goals were and who they were as a person.”
In addition to serving as a member of the Brandywine Lions Club, Lyons was selected by his peers as a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship, awarded to an individual who

embodies the highest humanitarian ideals consistent with the mission of the Lions Club.
The firm’s commitment to “giving-back” may have been inspired by Lyons, but it doesn’t end there. Hawley served as a coach for many years with the Springfield Athletic Association and is a member of the Springfield Lions Club; Naseef is a long-time board member of the Good Fellowship Ambulance & Training Institute; and Stevens, among his many other affiliations, has been a supervisor for Kennett Township since 2012.
“When my daughters began showing interest in sports, I thought what a great way a father can be involved with his daughters,” he said. “I saw it as opportunity for ‘Dad time’ with my daughters, but as it turned out, it built so many other relationships with young people and their parents, as well.
“Now, I can’t go into a local store without meeting someone who I coached as they were growing up. I have received so much more personal fulfillment from
this involvement than I ever put into it.”

“I think that it goes to an underlying philosophy of how one sees life,” Stevens said. “There are those who grab and pull at life, and there are those who are open with their life and wish to share it with others. My colleagues and I have all received tremendous blessings, and so the driven need to be able to honor others becomes very important. “That’s been my interaction and it’s been the same with ‘the three Mikes’ – to share the capabilities that we have been blessed to receive from others, and pass them along.”
