2020 LANDSCAPE ADNEC’s core business is staging international exhibitions and conferences, in addition to providing planning support for event organisers. ADNEC also generates revenues from a number of ancillary sources, including Capital Hospitality, ADNEC Services and leasing of retail units and serviced offices across its venues and premises.

While ADNEC had a strong start to 2020, hosting the World Future Energy Summit, World Urban Forum and organising and hosting UMEX and SimTEX, the ban on all events following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic meant that ADNEC’s ability to generate economic impact was severely reduced.

ADNEC utilised their resources for most of 2020 by firstly setting up and supporting COVID-19 field hospitals along with food storage facilities and then as the locations for the Government’s Phase III vaccine trials, the hub for the Government’s COVID-19 Vaccination Program as well as COVID-19 testing centres.

Thanks to its dynamic thinking, agility, qualified teams, highly flexible infrastructure and the vision of its management, ADNEC has shown inspiring and driven leadership to support the UAE government’s wider strategy to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company achieved a number of major successes in 2020 in what was an unprecedented year resulting in a more resilient business model.

I am pleased and proud in what ADNEC achieved during 2020 and the way in which we demonstrated our abilities to organise and deliver key relief efforts. Thanks to our expert teams, flexible infrastructure and the vision of our Leadership, ADNEC has shown strong, inspiring, and driven leadership to support the UAE’s strategy to mitigate the impact of this pandemic.

Our employees had the support and resources to adapt to the new work environment. Our business continuity procedures were resilient enough to ensure a seamless and smooth transition without disruption to the business.

2020 demonstrated how the company’s flexibility and forward thinking made us ready and able to organise, deliver and host new initiatives. For 2021 and in line with the Year of the 50th, ADNEC looks ahead to new successes and we will continue to advance our position at the forefront of the international events industry to create a long-term economic and social impact to Abu Dhabi.

MESSAGE FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR & GROUP CEO HUMAID MATAR AL DHAHERI

In 2020, the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) demonstrated its regional and international leadership of the business tourism sector, as the world battled the global circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To combat these international conditions, ADNEC adopted a unique investment model, diversifying its revenue sources while prioritising close cooperation with partners across the public and private sectors. It concentrated on ensuring innovation and development across the company, complementing its highly flexible facilities and teams.

These efforts mitigated the negative effects of the global pandemic, while reducing operational and financial impacts on the Group.

In the first quarter of 2020, ADNEC welcomed a diversity of high-profile local and international events. Notably among them was the World Future Energy Summit, the World Urban Forum, and the UMEX and SimTEX 2020 exhibitions, alongside other conferences and exhibitions.

In the second quarter, ADNEC worked closely with event organisers, identifying solutions to safeguard their businesses and abate negative impacts of the pandemic. ADNEC helped organisers postpone event dates and identify suitable alternatives later in the year.

Concurrently, ADNEC buttressed government relief efforts against COVID-19. Its local and international facilities were transformed into temporary field hospitals, medical testing centres, and vaccination hubs.

The company’s staff bolstered front-line workers. ADNEC Services constructed all hospitals, medical facilities, testing centres, and vaccination hubs in our UAE centres. Capital Hospitality provided catering for health teams inside and outside the company, following international health and safety standards.

In the second half of the year, ADNEC closely cooperated with a wide range of national and international authorities, alongside partners across government and private sectors. Working in close partnership, we developed a range of precautionary and preventative measures, ensuring the health and wellbeing of all visitors to our centres. These protocols came in line with leading local and international sector requirements.

ADNEC was able to tackle the impacts of the pandemic thanks to its highly talented staff. Their efforts were critical across ADNEC’s programmes, maintaining the Group’s record of achievements.

I am confident in our team’s ability to overcome the current period and to continue to lead this dynamic sector.

Our mission is to contribute to achieving the company’s strategy which will support the target of positioning Abu Dhabi as the capital of the business tourism sector in the region.

ADNEC ECONOMIC IMPACT TO UAE

ADNEC PLAYS AN ESSENTIAL ROLE IN HELPING THE EMIRATE ACHIEVE ITS LONG TERM GOALS OF ECONOMIC GROWTH AND DIVERSIFICATION ADNEC ADNEC’s economic impact is calculated using a model developed by an independent, third party consultant. Through a series of world class exhibitions, conventions and events, ADNEC assists in growing the business tourism (MICE sector) and generating non-oil related economic impact.

The key metric used to measure ADNEC’s economic impact is the Gross Value Added (GVA), which is equivalent to GDP adjusted for taxes and subsidies.

The economic impact calculation depends on key variables and parameters, including the number of visitors, type (domestic and international), length of stay, average spend, services and goods involved, as well as hotels and airlines. The model considers various types of affected sectors, such as wholesale, retail trade, repairing services, restaurants, hotels, transport, storage and communication.

ABU DHABI NATIONAL EXHIBITION CENTRE Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre is a multi-award winning venue offering organisers of exhibitions, conferences and events outstanding facilities spread over a total space of 142,226 square metres.

This includes versatile spaces suitable for medium to large scale conferences of up to 6,000 people, 12 exhibitions halls, 21 meeting rooms, a stunning banqueting facility, as well as an outdoor space which includes a grandstand and an impressive Marina. A complete venue solution, ADNEC also boasts a range of restaurants, cafés, shops, business facilities and six on-site hotels offering c.1,800 rooms.

Al Ain Convention Centre provides the city of Al Ain with an exceptional venue for exhibitions, conferences, weddings and other special events.

It is built in a unique architectural style that is in harmony with the city’s existing architecture with a marqueestyle roof. It offers combined (indoor and outdoor) event space of 20,000 square metres.

ExCeL LONDON London’s largest international exhibition and convention centre, was acquired by ADNEC in 2008. The 100,000 square metre venue includes the Capital’s only International Convention Centre; ICC London which includes the UK’s largest fully-flexible auditorium for up to 7,000 delegates. Excel also boasts London’s largest banqueting hall for up to 3,000 guests as well as conference facilities which can accommodate 50 to 1,200 delegates.

EXHIBITIONS Capital Events Capital Events is a leading organiser of some of the Middle East and the world’s flagship exhibitions and conferences. A subsidiary of ADNEC Group, Capital Events offers internationally leading event organising capabilities and services to clients and exhibitors choosing to partner with them.

IDEX IDEX is the only international defence exhibition and conference in the MENA region demonstrating the latest technology across land, sea and air sectors of defence. It is a unique platform to establish and strengthen relationships with government departments, businesses and armed forces throughout the region.

IDEX is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and is organised by Capital Events in association and with the full support of the UAE Armed Forces. IDEX takes place biennially at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

NAVDEX NAVDEX is held alongside IDEX, the International Defence Exhibition and Conference. NAVDEX provides a dedicated and focused platform for international naval defence and maritime security companies to showcase their technologies and services to an international audience.

NAVDEX offers exhibitors the unique opportunity to promote the latest in naval, maritime and coastal security technology, equipment and crafts.

UMEX AND SimTEX The Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference (UMEX), and Simulation Exhibition and Conference (SimTEX) runs at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event showcases the MENA regions industry leading and growing unmanned systems segments. Ideally positioned to provide a professional platform for manufacturers to meet operators and establish lucrative business relationships while promoting the defence, environmental, civil and humanitarian benefits of unmanned systems. The high-profile event offers access to the regional and international networks, share important views and experiences with key-players in the field.

Abu Dhabi International Boat Show Abu Dhabi International Boat Show is unique to Abu Dhabi and the region, it caters for all marine industry professionals and the whole family seeking a great day out or a weekend.

Abu Dhabi International Boat Show is the perfect platform to discover the latest ways to enjoy all aspects of marine leisure and water sports in and around Abu Dhabi, with a whole range of opportunities to get out on the water.

SIAL

ISNR

SIAL Middle East is a joint venture between Capital Events LLC and Comexposium. It is an international exhibition of food and has established itself as one of the largest fairs for the food and beverage in the hospitality industry in the Middle East and the MENA region for 10 years.

ISNR was launched in 2008 and there have been six editions. Organised with the support of the UAE Ministry of Interior, ISNR Abu Dhabi brings the national & cyber security community together to accelerate public - private collaboration for a safer connected world. The event is held bi-annually in February every even year collocated with UMEX and SimTEX (in the opposite years to IDEX NAVDEX).

Hotels

Andaz Abu Dhabi – Capital Gate Located in the iconic Capital Gate tower, the five star ANdAZ Capital Gate hotel provides 188 rooms and unsurpassed views of the city and coastline. It was the first ANdAZ hotel in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The on-site hotel is directly connected to ADNEC.

ALOFT ABU DHABI HOTEL Owned by ADNEC and operated by Marriott International, Aloft Abu Dhabi is the largest Aloft hotel in Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

The four star hotel offers 408 rooms over 12-storeys and is connected to ADNEC by internal walkways.

ALOFT LONDON EXCEL In 2011, ExCeL London opened the UK’s first Aloft hotel. Aloft London ExCeL was built by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company and is linked to the ICC London ExCeL. The four-star, 252 room hotel is located right next to the Prince Regent DLR station and is just minutes away from London City Airport, Canary Wharf, and from the O2 Arena on the Emirates Air Line cable car.

ANANTARA SIR BANI YAS ISLAND Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island provides three distinct hotels on an island off the coastline of the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Turquoise ocean and teaming wildlife are the view outside of the 124 villas, suites, and rooms available on the Island. The resort was voted as the 10th best resort in the Middle East by the Conde Nast Awards 2020. Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island is a two hour and fifteen minute drive from ADNEC, with a 25 minute boat ride to the island. Flights are also available from Abu Dhabi to Sir Bani Yas Island.

QASR AL SARAB DESERT RESORT BY ANANTARA Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara is situated in the towering dunes of the Empty Quarter in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The resort provides 205 exclusive rooms, suites, and villas, surrounded by stunning landscape and defined by iconic Arabian hospitality. The resort has been voted the number one resort in the Middle East in 2020 and number 26 globally by Conde Nast Awards. Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara is a two hour and fifteen minute drive from ADNEC.

SERVICES ADNEC SERVICES LLC ADNEC Services LLC launched in 2015, and is a fully integrated business unit of ADNEC, offering a dedicated single point of contact for organisers, exhibitors and retailers, for setting up, connecting and activating stands, exhibitions and other conferences spaces within ADNEC venues, which can be delivered seamlessly within an overall one-stop approach. In addition to services at ADNEC venues, ADNEC Services offer event management, creative design, interiors and brand experience/activation services.

CAPITAL HOSPITALITY Capital Hospitality, part of ADNEC Services LLC, was launched in 2015, to deliver exceptional hospitality experiences, which combine international and local knowledge, to produce a 5-star hospitality service offering that is second-to-none.

CAPITAL EVENTS Capital Events is a leading organiser of some of the Middle East and the world’s flagship exhibitions and conferences. Part of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), and based out of the capital of the UAE, Capital Events offers internationally leading event organising capabilities and services to clients and exhibitors choosing to partner with the company. Among the events which the company organises are the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX), the Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX), the Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference (UMEX) and the Simulation and Training Exhibition and Conference (SimTEX), the International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR Abu Dhabi), SIAL Middle East, the Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition, and the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show.

ABU DHABI NATIONAL EXHIBITION COMPANY

ADNEC’S GROUP EFFORTS TO COMBAT COVID-19 From the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) focused on providing support to government relief efforts for the pandemic. All three of our exhibition centres were transformed into field hospitals, supporting COVID-19 relief efforts in the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

In this regard, three of ADNEC’s facilities; two in the UAE and one in London, have been transformed to field hospitals, thanks to their availability and flexibility to be adapted in record time. We are honored to partner with SEHA and the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi to launch the field hospitals as an effective addition to the country’s initiatives to safeguard our community, and thank all those involved in the nation’s response to COVID-19”.

ADNEC Group was clear from the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic: these exceptional circumstances required exceptional support. At the pandemic’s height in April 2020, ensuring hospital capacity in Abu Dhabi was a critical priority for the government and public health services. Our flexible infrastructure helped relieve medical infrastructure in the UAE and the UK along with our proficiency in turning around these projects with speed and effect. ADNEC worked on mitigation strategies to ensure that all facilities under the umbrella of the group were involved including Capital Hospitality, ADNEC Services and ADNEC’s on site hotels.

ADNEC worked closely with SEHA – Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and other government entities to rapidly and cohesively transform the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and the Al Ain Convention Centre (AACC) into field hospitals with ADNEC’s field hospital opening on April 22, 2020 and AACC’s field hospital opening on May 27, 2020.

ADNEC Services, ADNEC’s event services division, was responsible for the rapid transformation of the centres into field hospitals, managing the change in only four weeks. The field hospital at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre could accommodate 1,000 patients, while Al Ain Convention Centre accommodated 500 patients. Each facility contained recreation and fitness areas - including a running track and stationary bicycles for patients, laboratories and break rooms for medical staff.

In alignment with UAE government guidelines to effectively combat COVID-19, ADNEC also worked with in conjunction with Abu Dhabi Ports in ensuring food storage for food security during this stage of the pandemic in the capital.

Capital Hospitality, ADNEC’s in-house catering arm supplied nutritious meals at both the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain venues for the field hospitals, front line workers and quarantined individuals, serving in excess of half a million meals from April to December 2020.

Concurrently, ADNEC’s London exhibition centre, ExCeL London, was given over to the United Kingdom’s National Health Services (NHS), to be used as the NHS Nightingale Hospital London which opened on April 3, 2020. The hospital had a capacity of 4,000 beds, providing a comprehensive range of medical support facilities for those infected with COVID-19. ADNEC worked closely with public health officials in the United Kingdom to ensure that they had adequate provision during the establishment of the NHS Nightingale Hospital London.

Following the height of the pandemic, both the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company and Al Ain Convention Centre were converted this time into mass-testing centres.

With the provision of mass, secure testing for COVID-19 a central pillar of the Abu Dhabi government’s wider COVID-19 mitigation strategy, ADNEC was keen to continue to support the government in overcoming the pandemic’s impacts.

Finally, ADNEC was used as a trial centre for the Phase III clinical trials of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine. With the creation of a viable vaccine against COVID-19 a central priority for public health protection, ADNEC sought to ensure researchers had access to ADNEC’s wide range of flexible infrastructure to effectively test the trial vaccine.

ADNEC’s exhibition centres had capacity for over 5,000 beds during the COVID-19 pandemic, alleviating pressure on other medical resources in Abu Dhabi and London and supporting wider healthcare infrastructure during the pandemic.

ADNEC provided 1,985,337 quarantine meals, 508,380 field hospital meals and 2,444,581 catered meals along with 119,127 manpower to support frontline efforts.

A large number of individuals were tested for COVID-19 at ADNEC’s centres, and another 33,000 participated in the Phase III trial for the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine. These efforts contributed to Abu Dhabi being able to test its wider population during the pandemic, as well as being able to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to residents, after the vaccine received regulatory approval in December 2020..

WORLD URBAN FORUM WUF10 AT A GLANCE

The World Urban Forum (WUF) is convened

by UN-Habitat and was established in 2001 to address the pressures of rapid urbanisation and its impact on climate change, communities, cities, economics, and policies. The forum is a high-level platform open to everyone with an interest in sustainable urbanisation.

Held every two years, the World Urban Forum took place for the first time in an Arab country in Abu Dhabi in February 2020. The 10th edition of the Forum addressed the theme ‘Cities of opportunity: Connecting Culture and Innovation’.

UN Habitat worked in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and General Secretariat of the Executive

The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport was the main local organiser (host) and awarded ADNEC Services (a subsidiary of ADNEC group) the event management contract.

assess the scale of the operation and gain insight ahead of the planning and preparations for WUF10 in Abu Dhabi.

WUF10 was a whole venue event, spanning over 65,000sqm which comprised a 14,735sqm exhibition with 131 exhibitors, 5 assemblies, 6 high-level dialogues, 30 roundtables and special sessions. A busy schedule of 170+ side and networking events were housed in 20 purpose-built conference rooms. High level opening and closing ceremonies were attended by ministers as well as senior members of the UAE government and royal family.

The scope of work for ADNEC Services included project management of the entire event from concept and creative direction, design, build and production, to exhibition sales and sponsorship and management. In addition to this, they managed registration services, staffing (355 contractors per day) and volunteers (450+ per day) as well as translation services (100 persons per day). ADNEC Services were also tasked with managing the delegate experience and organised accommodation, transportation and shuttle buses as well as city activations and social tours for the international attendees to get acquainted with the city of Abu Dhabi.

The 6,000 capacity International Conference Centre (ICC) at ADNEC was used for the opening and closing ceremonies which were streamed across UN – TV as well as news networks globally.

The Central Plaza area hosted an outdoor cocktail reception with catering by ADNEC’s in-house caterer, Capital Hospitality, for an audience of 4,000 guests. The area was transformed by ADNEC Services into a celebratory festival environment with casual seating and a full entertainment programme with a diverse range of performers from bands, to traditional ayala dancers, live singers and a DJ. The Urban ‘Expo’ took over Halls 7 to 10 and included an urban cinema, urban village and urban library spaces.

WUF10 was a resounding success, it attracted more than 13,000 attendees from over 168 countries. The event achieved high level attendance from 78 senior government ministers representing 30 countries. The venue is ideally located only 15 minutes from the airport and easily accessible from the downtown area. A network of 47 hotels (including the 6 on-site at ADNEC) across the city hosted the highest number of international delegates that WUF has had to date.

Over 500 sessions, featuring 525 speakers took place during the week of WUF10. In addition, Abu Dhabi hosted several parallel events and other cultural events enabling visitors to experience UAE culture, history, arts and tr aditions, music, dance, food, and architecture.

City-wide legacy activities included the planting of 400 Ghaf trees at Old Airport Garden. The tree-planting initiative was organised by Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport, DMT, in partnership with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, MoCCAE, and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat.

Abu Dhabi also commissioned a sculpture by renowned Chinese artist Ai Weiwei named ‘Forever Bicycles’ which was installed on Abu Dhabi’s famous Corniche. The striking sculpture is made up of 720 individual bicycle parts and represents Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainable transport and the network of hundreds of cycling lanes throughout the city.

ABU DHABI PORTS SCREENING CENTRE

Abu Dhabi Ports owns and operates 10 port and terminal facilities in the UAE which play an important part in supporting the emirate as a trade hub.

In alignment with UAE government guidelines to effectively combat COVID-19, Abu Dhabi Ports introduced a raft of health and safety measures across all aspects of its operations to safeguard the health of marine personnel and maintain business continuity from the outbreak of the pandemic.

Measures included temperature screening at all sea checkpoints, as well as thermal scans of all vessel crews and offshore personnel operating in Abu Dhabi waters as well as an ongoing disinfections and sterilisation programme across all facilities.

To build COVID-19 testing facilities at Khalifa and Zayed ports to provide tests for Abu Dhabi Ports’ staff and customers.

Abu Dhabi Ports awarded ADNEC Services (a subsidiary of ADNEC group) the contract to project manage and deliver the testing facilities at both locations.

The scope of work was to manage the entire project from concept and creative direction, design, build and production.

The main challenge was to provide a working facility within a short

time scale, which was successfully constructed in record-time, within a single day. The team managed the full build of the facilities including integrated AV, graphics for signage and information as well as shell scheme testing and consultation cubicles.

The testing facilities will provide on-going testing for key workers within the ports facility. It is accessible to Abu Dhabi Ports employees, contractors and subcontractors active in the ports, the new facilities can process up to 700 tests daily. Housing the latest in medical diagnostic equipment for detecting COVID-19, the 150 sqm facilities are fully staffed by qualified medical personnel who can conduct tests in a matter of minutes with results returning within 24 hours.

VENUES HIGHLIGHTS Prior to the pandemic and ensuing lockdown, ADNEC and Al Ain Convention Centre proudly hosted 66 events and welcomed 125,135 visitors to the venues.

Flagship events for this period included the World Future Energy Summit, a leading clean energy and sustainability summit and exhibition. WFES is the largest gathering of sustainability professionals in the MENA region and brought 34,000 visitors, 840 exhibiting companies from 125 countries as well as 100 innovative start-ups.

The World Urban Forum took place for the first time in an Arab country in Abu Dhabi in February. over 13,000 participants from around the world. The event comprised a packed agenda of conference and education streams, hundreds of side events, impressive opening and closing ceremonies as well as city-wide activations designed to leave a legacy such as greening and cultural initiatives around the city.

Commercial activity In response to the inability to host scheduled events at ADNEC due to COVID-19, the principal focus of the commercial sales teams was to retain events where possible and therefore the immediate response was to work with all clients to identify new dates and reschedule their tenancy accordingly.

In the first instance this rescheduling largely saw most events reschedule to the end of Q4 2020, however as the severity of the global health situation became clear, the events typically had a further reschedule into 2021 and beyond, subject to their booking cycle.

A total of 44 events were rescheduled to 2021 and beyond, this comprised 25 exhibitions, 8 association conferences and 10 corporate and special events.

New Business It was encouraging that during 2020, the exhibitions sales team were able to secure several new launch events for 2022, namely Expo Expo, Middle East Design and Build Week and Middle East Manufacturing & Technology. Along with these contracted events we also have contracts out for several other launch events in 2022, namely the Middle East Rail Expo & Roads & Traffic events with Terrapinn and World Utility Congress and Ports, Warehousing & Logistics events with DMG.

The conference sales team secured the following events: World Chinese Life Insurance Congress 2022; Congress of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (FIB) 2026 and World Environmental and Education Congress (WEEC) 2024.

The corporate and special events team worked with a variety of Abu Dhabi entities to utilise the venue for a range of non-traditional, long lease business during the period where ADNEC were unable to host events. This business was directly related to the efforts to manage the response to the pandemic.

The venue was used during 2020 as a SEHA field hospital, a Covid-19 vaccination trials hub, a COVID PCR testing hub, a host for the Genome Population Program by G42 and as a dry food storage facility by Abu Dhabi Ports. During 2020, utilisation of the venue was 70.7%. This result is testament to ADNEC’s ability to adapt its business model in order to respond to the global crisis.

VENUES HIGHLIGHTS ABU DHABI NATIONAL EXHIBITION CENTRE 360 VIRTUAL TOURS OF ABU DHABI NATIONAL EXHIBITION CENTRE AND AL AIN CONVENTION CENTR

Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company launched a series of 360-degree virtual tours. Designed to allow planners to explore ADNEC’s two exhibition centres from the comfort of their own homes: our flagship venue, the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, and its sister venue, the Al Ain Convention Centre in the UNESCO heritage garden city of Al Ain. The virtual service was launched in May, during the height of the pandemic.

ADNEC anticipated that travel restrictions would be long-term around the world. Virtual tours were launched so event planners could use them to visualise state-of-the-art event facilities, instead of visiting venues during the pandemic.

THE 360 TOURS ALLOW USERS TO FULLY EXPLORE

The 360 tours allow users to fully explore ADNEC’s 142,226sqm of indoor and outdoor event space, including its award-winning creative meetings space, The Hive. Furthermore, the tool offers planners the ability to map out the perfect visitor or delegate flow for their event.

Planners can also navigate around the Al Ain Convention Centre’s 20,000sqm and see how the facility is designed to complement the beautiful architecture of the city.

VENUES HIGHLIGHTS ABU DHABI NATIONAL EXHIBITION CENTRE OPERATIONS: EVENT RELATED ACHIEVEMENTS

In the first quarter, ADNEC delivered three major events, The World Future Energy Summit (WFES), the World Urban Forum (WUF) and the Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and Simulation Training Exhibition (SimTEX) during this period. Operations rigorously applied a wide range of precautionary measures, following the regulations from the government of Abu Dhabi in reducing the spread of COVID-19 while it was at its early stages.

From April onwards this year, Operations managed and operated efficiently three SEHA projects: the SEHA field hospitals at ADNEC and Al Ain Convention Centre, as well as testing centres and trial vaccination centres, all while implementing a range of safety measures during the pandemic.

ADNEC security team were engaged in operations at Razeen Isolation Camp. This was the first time we have provided Security Services outside of ADNEC’s premises.

Engineering Services Engineering Services successfully completed and delivered four major projects that ultimately enhance the quality of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre, and provide better facilities and services to our clients, visitors, and stakeholders.

IT KEY PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES 2020 was one of the most challenging years for ADNEC IT’s department. COVID-19 impacted our whole organisation, with all our staff required to work remotely.

ADNEC IT team embraced this challenge, and not only provided a seamless transition to remote working during the pandemic, but continued providing support to our hybrid working model since August 2020.

Remote Working for ADNEC ADNEC’s IT Department have enabled ADNEC’s shift to remote working. Our challenge was to ensure that our IT systems remained operational and all could access necessary software to work remotely. We had to constantly focus on enabling new and enhanced services, supporting a working environment with greater agility and flexibility.

Our team enabled a transition to remote working for all of ADNEC’s employees without a single minute of downtime.

Employees were provided with laptops, desktops (as required), and mobile phone services through Jabber. Further, remote working tools, such VPN systems and web meeting tools were established. Additionally, the IT team examined our bandwidth management, alongside streamlining network usage and its effectiveness.

ADNEC’s IT Department implemented a number of steps to ease remote working arrangements. We made a number of changes to our overall infrastructure and applications:

Over one weekend, ADNEC’s IT Department, following the direction of ADNEC’s management, enabled Microsoft Teams for all of computer users across ADNEC, ADNEC Services, and Capital Hospitality in a phased approach. The introduction of teams provided a new way to interact and connect among teams, allowing them to call one another at no cost.

This significant shift in our technological infrastructure was achieved with zero cost.

ADNEC’s IT department spent no money on its implementation and rollout.

Introduced internet access while on our VPN, allowing users to work uninterrupted, even while on the network

Introduced MyWeb on the internet. This service provided employees to work on ADNEC’s systems from their personal devices.

ADNEC Call Centre Migration ADNEC’s IT Department migrated our Call Centre to work remotely and support all of ADNEC’s customer requirements. This shift was done in two business days, with no downtime, enabling all operators and supervisors to work remotely.

Hybrid Working Following our shift in August to hybrid working, ADNEC’s IT Department had to maintain a dual service, providing users with a hybrid-working environment. With 50% of employees in the office and 50% working remotely, ADNEC’s IT teams had to ensure both sets of employees had their IT needs fully accommodated.

ADNEC’s IT Department supported in the delivery of the SEHA hospital project as a matter of urgency. In the span of two weeks, we had to deliver the project. Our IT department had to ensure that all cabling across the 1,000 bed hospital was completed on time, as well as ensuring high-quality technology to protect patients’ confidentiality. Our teams provided

round-the-clock support to avoid downtime.

In June 2020, ADNEC’s IT Department had to rapidly develop technology required for the COVID-19 Screening Centre across our two sites at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre and Al Ain Convention Centre. The project was completed over two weeks, and ADNEC’s IT Department ensured that the IT systems were running on time.

A series of services were delivered, starting from configuration and cabling of networks, as well as the hosting of SEHA servers at ADNEC’s DataCentre, supporting Etisalat connectivity.

In July 2020, ADNEC’s IT Department helped set up ADNEC’s Vaccination Trial Centre. Over 1,200 networking and cabling connections were installed to set up stations and doctor’s rooms.

The creation of the COVID-19 Prime Assessment Center required significant set up, and was delivered on time, exceeding expectations.

In December 2020, SEHA informed ADNEC that operations would be closing for their facilities, but special arrangements would need to be configured in Al Maa’red Hall at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre. 25 additional stations needed to be established to cater toward specific

requirements. Our IT teams arranged provided set up in Al Maa’red hall, which was delivered at the end of 2020. The majority of other operations were migrated out of other parts of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre’s facilities.

Additionally, an entire separate telephone network was configured, making sure that SEHA Nurses could remotely monitor patients.

Further, all patients and staff were provided with television, as well as being able to access Wi-Fi, configured for the SEHA network using ADNEC’s Access Points.

Our IT teams also enabled SEHA phone connectivity from ADNEC’s premises.

ISO 20000 Certification During 2020, ADNEC received the prestigious international standard for IT service management: ISO 20000. The certification requires two aspects: the development and implementation of an IT management system, and secondly implementation of best practice in ongoing service management.

Through achieving ISO 20000, ADNEC’s IT Department has improved its services, created

a framework for independent assessment, and demonstrated how it can meet customers’ requirements. Our team now demonstrate a competitive advantage, demonstrating a reliable and high quality service.

ADNEC’s IT Department completed the implementation phase and was successfully certified, with zero observations and recommendations, in November 2020.

IT Disaster Recovery Set Up & Testing Following the establishment of the Disaster Recovery site in Azure Dubai in 2019, ADNEC’s IT Department worked on establishing critical services for ADNEC on the Azure Cloud, also performing an end-to-end Disaster Recovery Test.

The IT team successfully migrated ADNEC’s Azure Tenant from Europe to the UAE’s DataCentre.

This was a significant effort which required substantial planning and

punctual execution over a weekend, successfully migrating the tenant without our IT systems being down.

Disaster recovery testing for all of ADNEC’s critical applications, such as Ungerboeck and Dynamics 365, were successfully conducted in September. All applications were recovered and returned to ADNEC DataCentre, once testing was completed.

VENUES HIGHLIGHTS EXCEL LONDON KEY PROJECTS AND HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2020 January – March Before the lockdown in the UK, ExCeL London hosted 56 events, welcoming 400,000 visitors.

This included world-leading exhibitions such as Bett, ICE Totally Gaming, International Confex, and FutureBuild as well as corporate events for globally renowned brands including HSBC, Microsoft, Salesforce, and Oracle.

Bett was the most successful edition of the show to date, welcoming 800

leading technology and education companies, 103 exciting EdTech start-ups, and over 40,000 attendees.

Similarly, ICE Totally Gaming, the world’s leading gaming exhibition, hosted 35,000 visitors from 150 countries, while International Confex welcomed 7,000 event industry professionals, having taken the decision to transfer the show from Olympia to ExCeL.

NHS Nightingale London In late March, with the full support of ADNEC, ExCeL agreed to provide the entire venue to support the Government and the NHS in their response to COVID-19. ExCeL was transformed into the world’s largest field hospital with a capacity of up to 4,000 beds. A team of 360 people worked to install the first 500 beds, fully equipped with ventilators and oxygen, in just nine days, ahead of an official opening in the (virtual) presence of HRH The Prince of Wales, on 3rd April.

Mass Vaccination Centre In November, once the United Kingdom had an approved vaccine, ExCeL was once again approached to play a role in supporting the British Government by providing space for a mass vaccination centre. Construction was complete by 1st December, providing a facility with the capacity to vaccinate up to 11,000 people a day. The vaccination centre at ExCeL opened on 11th January, alongside six other mass vaccination centres in the UK.

Venue investments

Throughout the pandemic, ExCeL has remained committed to its customers and investing in solutions which support events in the short, medium, and long term. In October 2020, a fully immersive, state-of-the-art hybrid event studio was opened. The facility offers customers the opportunity to diversify and broaden their reach by supplementing traditional content with online engagement. ExCeL partnered with market-leading audiovisual supplier Anna Valley to establish a unique environment for organisers to deliver highly dynamic hybrid events.

ExCeL has also partnered with market leader, Cisco Systems, to design and implement a refresh of the technology infrastructure within the venue. In the long-term, this will enable ExCeL to bring in new customer focused technologies, such as Wi-Fi 6, further improving the customer experience and the venue’s ability to deliver complex event requirements. This investment also supports the venue’s vision for Phase 3.

During 2020, the Technology team have completed a successful migration

to Ungerboeck Software as a Service (SaaS) from an on-premises solution.

Moving to SaaS has brought increased availability, security, and scalability for ExCeL’s event platform.

The venue team has used lockdown to complete a refresh of the entire building including all operational servicing, maintenance, painting, and the installation of new washroom blocks.

Commercial activity As a result of COVID-19, the Commercial teams successfully managed a large rescheduling programme across 2020, moving 192 events in total. That programme has extended into 2021, with over 30 events from Q1/Q2 of 2021 rescheduled to later in the year. The Exhibitions team has also secured long terms contracts with market leading shows including World Travel Market, Brand Licensing Europe, ComicCon, EGX, Homebuilding & Renovating Show, Professional Beauty London, Grand Designs Live, The British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show, and Technology for Marketing. The Commercial and Exhibitions team have secured over £4m (AED 20.4m) of new contracts over the next five years, with events including PCR London Valves (2021-2023), The International Liver Congress (2022 & 2026), European Wound Management Association (2024), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (2024), University College London examinations (2022-2024) and The British Geriatrics Society (2022 & 2024).

COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY AT A GLANCE

With ongoing restrictions for hosting conferences and events above 30 delegates, ExCeL has focused on building its filming and examination business (events allowed under UK Government guidance). The venue hosted studio productions for NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures, BBC Films, and Netflix, while examination clients have included University College London, BPP, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. By the end of the year, the Commercials and Exhibitions team achieved over £1.15m (AED 5.88 m) of filming business for 2020, exceeding the initial estimate of £500k with a further pipeline of £500k now being negotiated and expected to confirm for Q1/Q2 2021.

Despite being closed for events other than filming and exams for 10 months, ExCeL achieved an average utilisation of 50% (target 43%): a significant result, given the ongoing global conditions.

Mount Anvil Joint Venture In spite of COVID-19, off-plan sales of apartments have remained strong throughout 2020, with purchasers from around the world, with the majority based in China or Hong Kong. Phase 2A, which launched late in 2019, had all 183 units reserved or sold by the end of 2020. Phase 2B, launched in October 2020, had 40 of 190 units reserved or sold by the end of 2020. During lockdown, ExCeL also obtained planning permission for an additional 58 residential units to be built, expanding the whole scheme to 854 units.

Construction is planned to recommence in the first quarter of 2021.

Phase 3 During 2020, ExCeL began the extensive work of obtaining planning permission for the proposed 24,000 sqm extension of the venue. As a result of the pandemic, the process was suspended until September. It is now anticipated that ExCeL will submit its planning application in late February or early March 2021. The new extension is expected to be open by 1st January 2024.

Corporate Social Purpose (CSP) ExCeL remains passionate about creating a meaningful and inspiring legacy. The venue is proud to be part of the world’s largest sustainability initiatives, UN Global Compact, and is certified to both ISO 14001 and ISO 20121. ISO 20121 is the environmental standard for the events industry. ExCeL’s strategy focuses on four key areas: reducing waste, increasing energy efficiency, delivering more sustainable food choices, and supporting the local community.

Highlights in 2020 included:

100% of the venue’s electricity supply is now generated from renewable sources, while the gas supply is carbon offset using UN credits.

Delivered a new brand identity and website for local charity partner NASSA (Newham All Stars Sports Academy). NASSA works with children and young people across Newham to provide basketball coaching, as a way of providing inspiration and preventing antisocial behaviour.

Donations of food and supplies to the Community Food Enterprise for distribution to local community projects have continued where possible.

Building on the success of the previous Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference in 2016 & 2018, which was launched during the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX), the Middle East welcomed a bigger and better UMEX and SimTEX show in 2020, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. The exhibitions held a broader scope, including a Simulation and Training (SimTEX) zone to provide opportunities for training and knowledge transfer on this important global sector.

ADNEC SERVICES In 2020, ADNEC Services continued its historic growth through diversification and expansion of both its portfolio and client base. ADNEC Services has successfully adapted to market conditions by enhancing and developing its service offering.

ADNEC Services project managed the full event, including the strategic approach, commercial plan, creative direction, and operational management.

ADNEC Services managed the full end-to-end project, which involved over 30 international teams and over 400 international experts, competing in a live robotics competition for a 5M USD prize.

During the remainder of the year, ADNEC Service’s key highlight was its partnership with SEHA during the COVID-19 pandemic. ADNEC Services collaborated, designed, and executed numerous projects, aimed at supporting ongoing efforts to combat, control, and monitor the virus’s spread. These included:

ADNEC Services were instrumental constructing the field hospital at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre, following the venue’s repurposing in April. In a partnership with SEHA, the 400-bed hospital was built and delivered as part of the response to the crisis.

ADNEC Services led construction of the Prime Assessment Centres in both Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, delivering the facilities required for mass and safe PCR testing.

ADNEC Services produced the vaccination centres in ADNEC and at Abu Dhabi Ports. The centres contained observation rooms, clinics, nurse stations, and laboratories required for the volunteers and the general public within 24 hours.

New Website Launched ADNEC Services launched a dynamic, brand new website to showcase the diversity of their offerings, from brand creation to interiors as well as stand design and build.

With sleek features and easy to navigate user experience, the website brings our key projects to life through case studies and features testimonials from high profile clients. Since the website was launched in October we have seen hundreds of enquiries.

CAPITAL HOSPITALITY HIGHLIGHTS

CAPITAL HOSPITALITY

Capital Hospitality combines international and local knowledge to produce a 5-star hospitality service offering, which is second-to-none.

It delivers premium hospitality experiences at our venues, as well as providing external catering solutions.

During 2020, Capital Hospitality had to swiftly transition to providing new service offerings, given the ongoing global conditions that the world faced. With the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre transforming into a field hospital, we switched our service offerings to serve patients and staff working at the facility. We also looked to provide our high-quality culinary services to individuals quarantining.

Capital Hospitality Launches New Food Service Brand In response to market demand for high-volume catering for governmental and front line clients, Capital Hospitality launched its new food service brand, Capital Kitchen.

As Abu Dhabi mobilised to combat the spread of COVID-19 in 2020, catering requirements of a number of entities ranging from healthcare to civil defence increased and they looked to their existing trusted catering partner to be able to fulfil their requirements.

Capital Hospitality had previously catered high-end entertainment and corporate events for these clients and was now requested to provide thousands of meals per day for the civil defence and healthcare sectors, effectively becoming a high volume food-service company within a very short period of time. The product was transformed from event and private catering experiences to high-

volume nutritious pre-packaged meals for audiences ranging from civil defence, to healthcare and worker meals.

During peak weeks, Capital Hospitality provided 85,000 meals a day, an incredible increase from the pre-pandemic number of 20,000 meals per day and averaged 65,000. This market demand led to the launch of Capital Kitchen, a subsidiary food service brand catering to large scale food and beverage requirements for number of targeted industry sectors at price points to suit a range of budgets.

With a strong supply chain, impressive facilities and a well-equipped fleet, Capital Kitchen can efficiently mobilise any type of contract quickly and has the capacity to deliver thousands of meals per day.

Capital Hospitality at Formula 1 Capital Hospitality were proud to honour our frontline heroes and their families at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, December 2020. Due to COVID restrictions, tickets were not available for the general public, however Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management made the decision to invite 600 frontline workers and their families to view the race in a safely constructed picnic area on ‘Frontline Heroes Hill’ – formerly Abu Dhabi Hill, over the three days of the event.

A picnic area with safely spaced benches, with hand sanitiser available on each was created on the Hill which gave spectators incredible views of the on-track action. Once safely seated, guests were able to use QR codes to order a pre-paid meal deal from one of the many delicious meal options catered at the Capital Hospitality food trucks, which was then delivered to their table by Capital Hospitality staff in specially sanitising packaging.

Capital Hospitality operates under stringent hygiene and sanitation standards in line with international and UAE governmental guidelines were implemented across the entire operation. The measures include sanitisation of delivery trucks, storage, preparation areas as well as the kitchens and delivery fleet.

All staff are regularly health checked and COVID-19 tested and subject to daily sanitisation procedures upon arrival at operational sites as well as being constantly monitored for high temperature or any sign of illness. Catering at Formula 1 was also subject to inspection and approval by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA).

Contactless ordering and payment was also available for guests wishing to order further food or drinks during the day.

WHISTLEBLOWING ADNEC has established an independent whistleblowing mechanism, through which all stakeholders and employees can raise concerns directly to an external independent third party, which treats the concerns confidentially.

Issues raised are shared with the Head of Internal Audit and the Chief Human Capital Officer, who process them as per the documented compliance charter. A committee is formed consisting of Internal Audit, Human Capital, and Legal Affairs, where necessary, to steer the investigation.

FRAUD CONTROL ADNEC’s Fraud Control Policy is designed to assist employees and stakeholders ensuring they have thorough and up-to-date policies and procedures, and can mitigate the risk of fraud at ADNEC. The Policy was updated and enhanced during 2020.

ADNEC follows a zero tolerance approach to fraud and takes immediate action against perpetrators. Every employee is asked to sign an annual declaration of compliance to the policy.

ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT ADNEC has developed an Enterprise Risk Management framework which was attested as being compliant with ISO 31000 during the year. The framework established an approach to identify and manage key risks in the business, in accordance with international best practice.

ADNEC’s Enterprise Risk Management framework includes clear and detailed definitions of risk appetite, including a risk appetite statement approved by the Board of Directors, and definitions and quantifications of risk tolerance limits in line with leading practices.

The Board of Directors fulfils the role of a Risk Committee by approving the risk approach, setting the risk appetite and tolerance levels, reviewing key risks on a quarterly basis, and reviewing the Annual Risk Management report. The Board is supported by the Audit Committee in this role.

BUSINESS RESILIENCE Since 2012, ADNEC has operated a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS), aligned to the requirements of both the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) and the ISO 22301:2012 standard for Business Continuity Management Systems.

In 2019, ADNEC partnered once again with the newly launched travel and hospitality accelerator programme, run by Plug and Play.

Tanfeeth – ADNEC accelerator In 2018, ADNEC launched its own internal accelerator program, Tanfeeth. We offered the opportunity for employees from across all our business units to participate in teams and experience an end-to-end innovation journey. Participants could apply frameworks, brainstorm and ideate, consider business feasibility, and finally create products for market.

Due to the pandemic, and its impact on limiting our wider activities, 2020 activities for Tanfeeth have been rescheduled to 2021.

Innovation week 2020

In February each year, the United Arab Emirates celebrates UAE Innovation Month. This annual festival strengthens the country’s position as a global innovation hub and recognises innovators across the nation. In support of Innovation Month, ADNEC’s Innovation Team organised an innovation day at the ADNEC Innovation Lab. This year’s focus was the creation of an Innovation Wall and creating a Leadership Innovation Promise.

The Innovation Wall provided a visual way to describe the journey of innovation at ADNEC. Participants from all levels of the company, from senior leadership down to managers and staff, contributed to painting a piece of our innovation wall. The exercise provided a fun and engaging way to understand how innovation has taken root at the heart of ADNEC since 2016.

The Leadership Innovation Pledge was first introduced in 2020.

Each chief wrote and signed a pledge related to creativity.

ADNEC’s leadership is committed to innovation, and the activity provided the leadership specific examples to enhance ADNEC’s innovation journey. Ideas included dedication of departmental budget for innovation, allocating specific hours each month to discuss innovation, to reward ideation, support research and more.

International attestation In 2017, ADNEC became the first company within the MICE sector in the MENA Region to be awarded international attestation for Innovation Management (CEN/TS 16555-1:2013). Since then, ADNEC has proudly passed the Innovation Management audit annually.

Even in 2020, in spite of the difficult circumstances, we conducted a virtual audit and complied with all necessary requirements to maintain and renew our innovation management attestation. Such work reflects our commitment in maintaining a robust innovation management framework and ensures innovation is deeply ingrained within our corporate culture.

SUSTAINABILITY SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPIONS In order to institutionalise sustainability within ADNEC and to gradually adopt this cultural shift, ADNEC leadership represented by its executive committee created an internal sustainability committee chaired by the Group CEO to lead the efforts and ensure proper execution of internal initiatives.

Additionally, ADNEC has developed a sustainability team supported by CSR and ADNEC Green Teams.

Sustainability Award Win ADNEC Group won the Best Sustainability Initiative award at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Leadership Awards Abu Dhabi 2020 for its efforts toward establishing a circular economy across the group.

Sustainability Memberships

ABU DHABI SUSTAINABILITY GROUP (ADSG) The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG) promotes sustainability management in Abu Dhabi by providing learning and knowledge sharing opportunities for government, private companies and not-for-profit organisations in a spirit of cooperation and open dialogue.

ADNEC formally joined ADSG in 2012, and since then we have actively participated in a number of development workshops.

In addition, ADNEC is represented in the Facilitation and Coordination Committee which reports directly to the ADSG Management.

ABU DHABI SUSTAINABILITY WEEK (ADSW) An Abu Dhabi government initiative (ADSW), is the ground-breaking global forum that unites thought leaders, policy makers and investors to address the challenges of renewable energy and sustainable development.

ADNEC as a venue and services provider is proud to work closely with Masdar (the key owner of this event) to make ADSW and its World Future Energy Summit as the largest gathering on sustainability in the Middle East and a significant forum in stimulating the international dialogue and action.

ABU DHABI SUSTAINABILITY WEEK (ADSW) ADNEC is a member of the UFI Sustainability Development Committee. The UFI Committee on Sustainable Development was formally established in 2008 to support UFI as it focuses on the issue of Sustainable Development in the Exhibition Industry.

ADNEC was one of six members who actively helped the UFI Sustainability Development Committee create the Sustainability Reporting Framework for the exhibition industry.

HR Policy All HR policies are reviewed annually for improvements and updates.

HR policy update During 2020, the Human Capital team updated 31 key policies for employees and contractors working with ADNEC. Below is a summary of key decisions taken.

Remote Working ADNEC’s number one priority is the safety of its employees. The company aims to always provide a safe working environment for employees to perform their work at all times. Accordingly, in response to certain incidents, remote working may be activated for some or for all of our staff.

The decision to invoke Remote Working shall be determined by ADNEC’s Crisis Management Team, in accordance with ADNEC’s Incident Response Plan. The permanent application of remote working may also be applied to selected jobs within ADNEC. Employees working remotely must be able to visit their normal place of work (Abu Dhabi or Al Ain) any time within a short period (no more than one hour) of the requested meeting. Likewise, the employee must attend periodic online meetings using provided system software whenever required.

Part Time Working ADNEC seeks to provide personal flexibility to its employees, while at the same time satisfying business requirements. This policy provides necessary guidance in the application of part-time working policies in relation to:

w Temporary changes where the requirement for full time working is reduced for particular positions because of a reduced business need w The permanent application of part time working to selected jobs within ADNEC Part-time work is available for current employees that have completed one-year’s service, and wish to be assigned to a part-time job for a defined period of time for exceptional reasons, at the discretion of management. For new employees, both UAE Nationals and expatriates can apply for part-time positions at ADNEC. Priority to fill vacant part-time positions will be provided to UAE National candidates.

Salary Composition ADNEC administer a fair and consistent salary administration policy for all employees. This policy ensures objective, market-based salary decisions are taken that meet the changing needs of ADNEC.

Housing Allowance All permanent employees receive a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) and transport allowance. These allowances are paid monthly along with the employee’s monthly salary. The level of the allowance is defined by the employee’s job grade, while temporary employees receive a total salary (fixed amount) for their services and as per the agreement or the signed contract.

National Service Allowance All UAE National Employees are entitled to receive the National Service Allowance. The amount is fixed for employees above grade 4b and if it is specified in their contract of employment. It is paid having satisfactorily completed their probationary period.

Child Education Allowance ADNEC pays eligible employees an allowance to support the education of sponsored children. The allowance is paid to support children who are studying in the UAE and are no older than 18 years of age at the start of the academic year. Every permanent employee is eligible for this allowance (national or expatriate).

Annual Holiday Allowance It is important that all employees maintain the appropriate work-life balance and therefore we encourage all employees to take time away from the business. The Annual Holiday Allowance is a cash allowance that assists the employee and their sponsored family members with the costs involved in travelling.

All UAE National employees are entitled to one month’s basic salary every year. The entitlement for Expatriate employees and their sponsored dependants is specified according to their grade and is defined in their contract of employment. The cash allowance is based on pre-defined airfare agency rates. These rates are revised on an annual basis and communicated accordingly.

The allowance is paid once the employee has satisfactorily completed their probation period. For employees joining ADNEC during the year, it is paid on a pro-rata basis according to the number of completed months service.

Supporting Working Parents All married female employees who have successfully completed their probation period qualify for maternity leave. Since 2018, female employees have benefitted from a total of 90 days maternity leave.

Female employees with one year’s service or more are entitled to 90 calendar days maternity leave with full pay. Post-delivery, female employees are entitled to two and a half hour nursing breaks each day for 18 months. All married male employees who have successfully completed their probation period qualify for paternity leave.

The paternity leave period is five working days. This is to be taken within the first four weeks from the date of birth of the child. Salary and benefit accruals continue during the approved paternity leave period.

UAE National Allowances All UAE National employees are entitled to receive the Social Allowance and Child Allowance each month. These allowances are fixed amounts for all UAE National employees and are paid along with an employee’s monthly salary.

Medical Insurance Providing a good standard of healthcare is important to ensure the ongoing wellbeing of employees and dependents. ADNEC provides all expatriate employees and their sponsored dependents with a medical insurance plan. This is supplemented with various health awareness workshops covering topics such as diabetes, mental health and breast cancer to name a few.

Long Service Awards All employees who have served the organisation for over five years are eligible to receive a long service award, provided, there has been no disciplinary action against the employee during this time. Employees are recognised on the completion of five years of service and every five years post the completion of the initial five-year period.

During 2020, 31 employees achieved 10 years’ service & 3 employees achieved 15 years’ service.

Human Rights Our internal human rights policies and procedures comply with international laws and human rights regulations. Although contracts with ADNEC’s suppliers include relevant obligations to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, human rights clauses are not included separately in investment agreements or contracts. ADNEC has not undertaken screening regarding human rights, as it is not considered necessary to the types of agreements entered into by ADNEC within the highly regulated business environment of the U.A.E.

Employee Engagement During 2020, despite the restrictions caused by the pandemic, ADNEC employees joined remotely in celebrations to mark and commemorate Flag Day, UAE National Day, Commemoration Day, as well as the 9th Annual Staff Conference - Hayakum, reporting an employee satisfaction level of 95%.

Employee Satisfaction Survey ADNEC has continued to focus on engaging employees in a wide range of wellness activities to support their health and wellbeing while working from home. Initiatives have included healthy eating, mental wellbeing, and tips on productive home working routines. During 2020, 14 Wellness Communications were issued to all employees and 6 Virtual Wellness Sessions were conducted.

During a particularly challenging year, we had the best ever response rate for our employee satisfaction survey. 96% of employees completed the questionnaire across ADNEC, ADNEC Services, and Capital Hospitality.

Employee satisfaction levels rose for the third year to 89%, up from 85% in 2019 and 82% in 2018.

For the first time ever, all factors improved on the previous year. The top three in terms of improvement were Benefits and Compensation, Career Growth, and Communication and Transparency. Furthermore, it was heartening to see that overall staff satisfaction around remote working was 89%.

Time to Shine This is a monthly recognition scheme to recognise employees who have gone beyond what is normally expected of them. In 2020, we celebrated 94 winners of this scheme, demonstrating our employees’ commitment to further ADNEC.

Long Service Awards During the Hayakum 2020 virtual conference, we recognised, celebrated, and awarded long service certificates to 134 employees, including ADNEC’s Managing Director and Group CEO, Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri.

Our Internal Communications

The way we communicate with each other is essential to our success. ADNEC employees are at the heart of our business.

Therefore, ADNEC has a comprehensive internal communications strategy and plan, to ensure that all our people have access to the right information at the right time, as well as to keep our people engaged in all corporate matters. ADNEC has a number of communication channels to ensure that our messages, news and information are available for all ADNEC people.

The internal communication strategy ensures that these messages are not only downward (from management to employees), but also upward (employees to management) through surveys and staff suggestion initiatives, and horizontal (across departments and employees).

ADNEC is committed to diversifying the channels of communication to enhance engagement, teamwork, and networking and enable ADNEC people to have an open dialogue with senior management as well as inter- departmental communication.

MYWEB

Through MYweb, we publish daily news and stories, allowing all ADNEC staff to have up-to-date and instant information. The internal website (MYweb) is the primary place to visit to find information.

In 2020, MYWEB new content revamping initiative took place with the participation of champions from all departments.

MYAnnouncements

ADNEC launched a new system in 2018 for employees and different business units to participate with their announcements to be shared with their colleagues. This automated system, developed to ease and speed up the process, has proven a great success and has ensured the rapid sharing of relevant employees & business information.

Learning & Development Achievements Career Development ADNEC Group has been successful in positioning itself as a company that drives excellence in everything it does. To ensure that this excellence transformation progresses, the continuous improvement of people performance & organisational development is crucial.

In 2020, our Human Capital team provided a wide diversity of training and learning opportunities for ADNEC’s staff. These trainings had to be provided in a virtual setting, given the transition to remote working in the face of the pandemic.

UAE Nationals Programs: w Space to Perform Programme “ExCeL LONDON”: Space to Perform at ExCeL London is one of ADNEC’s most strategically important training opportunities for UAE National employees. The employees spend time at our London venue gaining additional hospitality and MICE industry experience. The programme provides the opportunity for UAE Nationals to experience one of the leading venues in Europe. The programme has been successful since its inception in 2009, with 43 Nationals graduating from the programme.

w IGNITE Programme: Our IGNITE induction and development programme was launched in 2016 to settle all UAE National new joiners smoothly in their role with ADNEC, by covering all the relevant departments in order to gain practical experience and continuous development in their career field. In 2019, six employees successfully completed their programme, one employee was under IGNITE Programme in 2020.

w Massar Development Prgoramme: Our MASSAR Programme is an international accredited Career Growth Program for Emirati fresh

graduates and joiner level employees at ADNEC. It was launched in July 2017 for the first batch. In 2019, the second cohort of UAE Nationals successfully completed the programme.

w Internship Programme: Our Internship programme focuses on building UAE Nationals’ capabilities by providing college and university

students with real-life work experience and preparing them for the business market. The number of interns who worked with ADNEC in 2019 is 9.

Social Learning Coaching Distanced Coaching Program – the online Coaching Program supports employees remotely, helping them continue their professional development, despite the absence of face-to-face meetings. All employees were provided with a guide to facilitate their ongoing and continued development. 20 coaching relationships have been initiated with a total of 18 hours coaching.

Responsible Communication In order to capture our customers’ opinion about ADNEC, which is indirectly related to our promises and communications, ADNEC conducts surveys through a specialised market research company. These surveys are based on face-to-face interviews, allowing for more details and opportunity for more useful dialogue. Surveys are designed to cover ADNEC’s delivered services and summarise the customer’s experience with ADNEC’s teams, chain and relevant services.

Product/Service Quality ADNEC has established, documented, implemented, and maintained a Quality Management System (QMS), in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2018.

ADNEC’s QMS is maintained and continually improved through the analysis of quality policy, quality objectives, audit results, analysis of data, corrective and preventive action, and management review. In spite of the pandemic and the difficult situation during 2020, ADNEC renewed ISO 9001:2018 via a remote audit during the quarantine period.

Moreover, ADNEC expanded the scope of its ISO certifications and decided to obtain ISO 14001: 2015 (Environmental Management system), which crowned all the existing activities that has seen ADNEC pioneer in a range of environmental initiatives.

One of the most anticipated certificates was ISO 20121:2012 (Event Sustainability Management System). ADNEC is proud to be the first company in the business tourism sector in MENA to obtain such a certificate. It demonstrates the commitment of ADNEC’s leadership towards best sustainable practices across all of our owned and organised events.

For example, the national supplier is waived from bid bond requirement and security cheques are acceptable.

ENVIRONMENT ROBOTIC SCRUBBER DRYER With our vision of innovation and customer service, the Smart Avidbot Neo has been a great addition to our cleaning team and we will continue to broaden the use of robotics in our cleaning program. The Robot Scrubber Dryer product has many unique features which points towards sustainability.

SMART BINS ADNEC after supported the launch of four smart bins for waste recycling, created from a prototype developed by Cycled, a technology start-up incubated with startAD at NYUAD. The smart bins help event organisers improve visitor engagement while reducing waste management costs. As soon as some waste (mainly metal, plastic or glass) is disposed into the Cycled Smart Bin, information regarding the weight of the material, along with the amount of carbon emission saved by using this smart bin, will be displayed on the person’s smart device.

MATERIALS The company prioritises the use of natural resources as efficiently as possible and aims to establish a material consumption reporting process, which for the time being is not available. It must be noted that at the moment we do not use any input materials that are recycled except for papers used for printing brochures and ADNEC’s stationery.

GREEN BUSINESS NETWORK (EAD) Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has implemented an initiative under the name of “Green Business Network” targeting governments and businesses to empower them to become environmentally sustainable and to help them facilitate change to more sustainable practices for organisations.

Bio Diesel Production A Bio Diesel machine is used to convert the used oil into diesel which is used to operate 30 per cent of ADNEC machines. In 2020, the bio diesel machine produced 1,050 litres of Bio-Diesel.

Liquid Food Compost We deployed One LFC machine in 2017 for food waste recycling and ADNEC has diverted 55 tons of food waste from the landfill. For 2020, the LFC composed 2.97% of the food waste a new LFC machine was operated to handle food waste from the main kitchen in the Wedding Hall.

Reverse Vending Machine (Rvm) Eight RVM machines are operating in different locations at ADNEC. In 2020, a total of 21.89 kilograms of plastic bottle and cans were collected for recycling.

Energy In 2012, ADNEC undertook a study to identify ways to make ADNEC’s energy use more efficient and in doing so reduce the company’s carbon footprint and negative environmental impact. The study reviewed the lighting use through Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre’s 12 exhibition halls.

It specifically included reviewing the current light fittings, the weight implications on the ceiling for changing to LED lights and the life cycle of the old versus new LED lights.

Solar Pv System (Photovoltaic System) In alignment to its efforts of adopting environmental sustainability practices, ADNEC has been investing in developing an infrastructure that uses elements of solar power as a source of energy.

In collaboration with Masdar City and as part of one of their initiatives, we installed solar panels on top of our key parking areas to be used as a power source for elevators. This project covers 1,000 square meters on Car Park B. We continuously measure the yield generated by the ADNEC Solar PV system and regularly inspect its performance.

Water Consumption Water consumption is one of the key areas in environmental sustainability where we need to keep monitoring. The table below summarises our consumption of water across ADNEC. As we are an events venue, our total number of water consumptions changes and fluctuates as per the venue’s calendar of events which changes from year-to-year and from quarter to another.

Chilled Water Chilled water is where water is pumped through an air handler, which captures the heat from the air, then disperses the air throughout the area to be cooled.

Health And Safety Plans - Contractors Service providers, contractors, and subcontractors are evaluated and selected by ADNEC on the basis of their capability to establish and implement a satisfactory safety system, as well as their safety record.

During tendering, they have to submit a safety plan and to be fully responsible for the occupational health and safety of their works, including subcontractors’ safety. They have to implement a safety plan, review it at least once a year, and keep appropriate records of their own safety inspections and audits.

Every department in ADNEC, including Capital Hospitality and ADNEC Services, has a representative in the Health and Safety Committee.

Health And Safety Management System (SMS) ADNEC’s SMS has been approved and accredited by the Occupational Safety and Health Abu Dhabi Center. This initiative was developed to regulate and maintain an occupational health and safety culture in the exhibition and event sector, both at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and across the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

ADNEC’s SMS has been reviewed in 2020 and has had significant updates for 2021.

In addition to complying with legal requirements, stipulated by the UAE, a positive health and safety culture within the exhibition and event sector in Abu Dhabi enables ADNEC to manage and control risks sensibly, minimise accidents and ill health, and reduce related costs to our businesses.

ADNEC Structural Engineers from the Health and Safety team also review and check on contractors who are working during events.

This includes auditing and inspecting stands for their structural stability and safety. The number of structures inspected in 2020 was 182. The decrease was due to the pandemic, and its impact on limiting events in 2020.

Health And Safety (Customers) ADNEC has adopted best practices to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its visitors, organisers and exhibitors through: Codes of Practice as part of ADNEC’s Organiser Handbook, as well as Health and Safety rules and regulations for all our stakeholders, which are all available online and are also communicated to the organisers at contract stage

ADNEC conducts training and safety inductions, as well as holding regular contractor meetings and site inspections. Additionally, an ADNEC Safety Day and Work in Heat Campaigns are organised and conducted by ADNEC’s health and safety team

ADNEC’s Operations team is trained to recognise any hazards or issues and manage these before an incident occurs. This is achieved through proactively monitoring all areas and hazards, and documenting them through the risk assessment and control plan

ADNEC carried out several health and safety campaigns to promote an internal health and safety culture, alongside generating awareness among serviced partners and contractors. Campaigns included:

Health And Safety Update Successful management of events including: the World Future Energy Summit, BRIDE Show, Tawdheef Career Fair, Health and Fitness

Fun Festival Expo, World Urban Forum, UMEX and SIMTEX, Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Competition, Artificial Intelligence Competitions organised by the Ministry of Education, the National Search and Rescue Conference 2020, the MODON Baniyas North Experience Centre, as well as VIP Weddings.

Additional services for Abu Dhabi Ports in providing bulk food storage COVID-19 Prime Assessment Center COVID-19 Vaccination Centre COVID-19 Field Hospital Health and safety teams provided COVID-19 awareness to all Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre and Al Ain Convention Centre staff and visitors through a range of means, including awareness posters on all gates, leaflet distributions, emails, and WhatsApp circulations.

A wide range of additional measures were implemented by the Health and Safety team to assist in the mitigation of COVID-19. Policies included the creation of specific quarantine areas, the upgrading of medical services, the installation of thermal cameras and hand sanitisers, holding awareness sessions, and ensuring emergency preparedness, in case of a positive case within a venue. Further specific emergency escape plans were created, taking into account limited access points for any event held on ADNEC’s premises.

During the height of the pandemic, remote working policies were implemented at both venues, with only a limited number of dedicated essential workers remaining on site. Teams working at ADNEC included health and safety, security and traffic, facilities management, planning for SEHA, mains and rigging (from ADNEC Services), cleaning, business continuity, and Capital Hospitality’s teams.

Health And Safety Update - Al Ain Convention Centre Al Ain Convention Centre has successfully implemented a diverse range of health and safety measures across its facilities and events, particularly following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Highlights include: Successful management of events at Al Ain Convention Centre, including Education & Future Job Expo, Sajaya Royal Fashion show, and Al Ain Jewellery and Watches, in addition to 26 weddings and 30 corporate events

Establishment of COVID-19 Prime Assessment Centers at the Al Ain Convention Centre

Establishment of COVID-19 Vaccination Centre at the Al Ain Convention Centre among serviced partners and contractors.

Al Ain Convention Centre’s teams participated in a range of virtual sessions and received numerous safety notices, including:

Build-up and breakdown of safety and Personal Protective Equipment compliance information Advice for Driving in Foggy Conditions Safety in Heat campaign conducted Inductions and Emergency Response Awareness delivered for SEHA Teams and additional security guards Virtual awareness session on ‘Setting up your workstation at home: a useful checklist’ Delivering and facilitating different health and safety toolbox meetings and trainings to Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre and Al Ain Convention Centre venue contractors and Capital Hospitality staff

Successful emergency response drills and Fire and Life Safety readiness Tests
