LORI PANARO Regional Director of Operations,

BUSINESS OFFICE MANAGER Cherisse works with residents regarding their accounts, also assisting them with their long term care insurance, as needed. In addition, she processes invoices for accounts payable, assists in the new associate hiring process, and oversees, what she proudly refers to as, a “great concierge team”! She takes great pride in making a difference in the lives of others, a job that is made easier because of the great team of associates who work at Oro Valley.

Every day she works to provide residents with the same care and respect she would want shown to her own parents and family.

Born in Montgomery, AL, Cherisse was raised primarily in Rising Sun, MD. A St. Louis Blues hockey fan, during her ‘down time’ Cherisse also enjoys spending time with her daughter and, of course, spoiling her dachshund, Brady!

Have you met anyone famous?

I met Henry Rollins at the first Lalapalooza tour in 1991.

Favorite things to do on the weekends?

Cooking, shopping, running with my running group.

Favorite thing to do with your family?

Cooking and shopping with my daughter.

Favorite family tradition?

Cooking a large meal with family, when I see them, for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Favorite season?

In a four seasons climate, I love Autumn.

Living in the desert for the last 14 years, I now enjoy winter since we don’t have much of an Autumn.

I lived in South Korea in 1992 and that was the best place I have traveled.

Interacting with the residents.

With industry experience going back to 1999, when she was a VP of a bank, Lori Panaro decided to switch gears in 2002. It was then she made her dream of helping others and working with seniors a reality and began a career in Senior Living, where she’s served as Regional Director since 2015. She is grateful for the chance to mentor her teams while also interacting with the residents. Extremely passionate about being a servant leader, spending meaningful time with the residents gives Lori a sense of enthusiasm and energy. She has a particularly special place in her heart for Memory Care, and feels giving back to the senior generation is a gift and a blessing. Outside of work, Lori enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. A baseball family, they typically spend weekends on the diamond. Her guiding principles are loving kindness and open-mindedness. A quote about her role on the team: “Servant-leadership is all about making the goals clear, and then rolling your sleeves up and doing whatever it takes to help people win.” - Ken Blanchard

Diana Burge knows a little something about engaging an audience. With a background that includes over a decade in the hospitality industry and more than 14 years spent as an educator, she has committed her life to empowering those around her. Her unique ability to connect with others serves her well in her role as the Director of Life Enrichment. “My job is to create lasting memories. With the help of my team, I am responsible for conceptualizing and carrying out events and activities that will enrich the lives of our residents, in the hope of bringing them joy and happiness.” A proud wife and mother, Diana believes in treating others with unconditional kindness. “Confucius

once said, ‘Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart.’ I am forever grateful for the opportunity to give back to others, and create experiences that will stay with them forever.”

Chi-Vas White has over 20 years experience in the hospitality & customer service industry. He served as an activity assistant at House of Welcome Adult Day Services in Northfield, IL, Director of Life Enrichment at Quail Park of Oro Valley, and as a personal and professional caregiver responsible for the care of his father. He is a professional artist, a returning college student, loving husband, and proud dog owner.

OCTOBER Dori Cárdenas-Smith, DMA, MS, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist and clinical singing voice specialist who earned her doctorate (DMA) in vocal performance and second master’s degree (MS) in Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Arizona.

Rich Grossman received his Masters degrees in clarinet performance and music education from the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford.

He has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Tucson, the Tucson Repertory Orchestra, the Tucson Woodwind Trio, and more.

Richard Hereld earned a B.Mus. in piano performance at the Eastman School of Music and an M.A. in musicology at the University of Toronto.

He has many years of experience collaborating in instrumental, vocal, cantorial, and choral concerts.

Katherine Byrnes is an award-winning vocalist, educator and concert producer based in Tucson, AZ. She is the sell-out headliner of “Tapestry: The Album”, a show honoring Carole King’s landmark album and “Piece Of My Heart”, her tribute to Janis Joplin. She toured China as the featured vocalist for Art.if.act Dance Project’s “Great American Dance Tour”, and all across Europe and the US as a harmony singer in Blue Note recording artist Amos Lee’s band. She has sung with acts as diverse as the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Arizona legends Calexico, and cumbia sensation Orkesta Mendoza. A wellestablished musician currently residing in Arizona who plays every genre from country to classical, Khris Dodge brings 25+ years’ experience and a commitment to quality to his eponymous production company.

MARK AND ARLETTE WILLIS DECEMBER Mark and Arlette are high school sweethearts who became friends quickly and soon after, fell in love. There they studied music and Arlette, a gifted soprano, competed annually at the prestigious Interlochen Music Competition in Michigan, consistently earning top scores for Solo Voice Soprano. Mark’s mother, who was a classically trained soprano, was his introduction to his wife as well as to music. In his childhood home he spent many hours listening to music and developed a strong ear and a love for music spanning Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite and Big Band Music, to Barbara Streisand, the Motown’s Sound including The Temptations, to Verdi’s AIDA and Handel’s Messiah. Mark is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. Mark and Arlette have been married for over 40 years and continue to thoroughly entertain audiences today.

JOE WIEGARD AS TEDDY ROOSEVELT JANUARY Joe Wiegand is a political science graduate of The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Joe was working in public policy and running election campaigns when he began performing as Theodore Roosevelt in 2002. In 2008, he and his family traveled across America in celebration of Theodore Roosevelt’s 150th birthday and the final centennial year of TR’s historic presidency. Performances at the White House and TR’s New York City birthplace highlighted the fifty-state adventure. Joe has been featured as President Roosevelt in “The Men Who Built America” on the History Channel, served as the model for the newest TR sculpture at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, and has a feature role in “National Parks Adventure” a film about our national parks.

THE TUCSON KLEZMERADOS MARCH Experience this unique group of local musicians carrying on the legacy and contemporary sounds of the unique Jewish folk music called “Klezmer,” loosely defined as Eastern European music in the Jewish tradition. Its history closely parallels that of Eastern European Jews, and its evolution reflects the migration of Jews in the nineteenth century throughout Eastern Europe irrespective of political boundary. Klezmer music has melodies from Greece, Eastern Europe, Spain, and more recently, American Jazz, swing, and popular music. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the lively, fun, and joyful music!

What entity do you get when you collectively combine 30+ female voices, who sing in threepart harmony, a director with 67 years of skillful piano and singing experience, a president of the organization who has been singing for 73 years and, in addition, a piano accompanist who has a very impressive educational and performance resume? The Sonoran Singers! The Sonoran Singers, located in Saddlebrooke, is a diverse group of women with all types of voice and musical talent. But, they have one thing in common: their passion for singing and making people happy.

MAMMA COAL A.K.A. CARRA STASNEY Mamma Coal is a hard gigging country musician and mother of two in Tucson. She writes songs meant to move people, both emotionally and physically. She has been particularly inspired by Tucson's country dance community. Her latest album Dance Hall Crush is a collection of original western dance songs including two-step, waltz, west-coast swing and line dances. Just hear her play once, and it’s a clear demonstration of the artistry and skill she and her band bring to the table--and the dance hall.

The Sheryl Ann Starlight Duo brings jazz and the American Songbook to the Arizona Senior Academy. Singer Sheryl Ann McKinley works with a rotating group of stellar Tucson musicians who love to explore a variety of styles, keeping “Sheryl Ann Starlight” on her musical toes. In her early years, McKinley felt that singing was a hidden gift, allowing her voice to come out fully only when no one was around. But eventually she encountered a wonderful voice teacher who encouraged and guided her to develop her vocal gifts, so that performing is now her passion. Her motto is “Music = Life!”

THE ARIZONA WOMEN’S CHORUS Based in Tucson, the Arizona Women’s Chorus comprises women ages 18 and older from all walks of life. An advanced women’s chorus, they sing a varied repertoire — from jazz to classical, Broadway to international, and everything in between. Over their 30-year history, they have toured by invitation, collaborated with other musical groups, and commissioned new works for women’s voices.

ACTIVE AGING WEEK OCTOBER 2 - 8, 2023 Active Aging Week, which was first launched by the International Council on Active Aging® in 2003, is an annual week-long campaign aimed at celebrating and highlighting the positive aspects of aging. The event showcases the abilities of older adults and their valuable contributions to society while also emphasizing the role models who lead the way.

The goal of Active Aging Week is to challenge society's negative perceptions of aging by demonstrating that older adults can thrive in all aspects of life, including physical, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, vocational, and environmental domains, regardless of age or health status.

At All Seasons Oro Valley, celebrate Active Aging Week with activities for groups and individuals to engage in at their own leisure: forest bathing, meditation, yoga, music, and refreshing and nutritional beverages and meals.

Did you know? A healthy diet includes all the food groups: fruits, vegetables, protein-rich foods, grain and dairy. Eating a variety of foods from every food group is essential for healthy aging, but one nutrient—protein—is particularly important. Experts agree that older adults need more protein to age well!

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHTS SHARON KORNREICH An only child, Sharon was born in Dayton Ohio in 1943. After studying business in college in Cincinnati, she married James and moved to Tucson where they had two sons, Brad and Drew.

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHTS KATHLEEN GARDNER Born in New Orleans, lived there until she was 12 then moved to New York. Met her husband Bill (then just friends) at an eighth grade dance where she told him to come back when he was taller! Apparently he must have grown because they dated in College. Kathy attended Illinois Wesylin and majored in Art. She is the mother of 2 boys and 1 girl. Kathy is an avid quilter and knitter and puts those skills to causes that she is passionate about. She quilts blankets for foster children through Tucson’s Make A Difference program. She makes lap blankets for Southern Arizona veterans who take their Honor Flights to Washington, D.C., where they visit the memorials that have been built in their honor. She presents her quilts to veterans of World War II, Korean, and Vietnam Wars at the trip orientation meetings. In addition, Kathy knits over a dozen sweaters each year through the Old Pueblo Knitters Guild and the Navajo Project.

Her handmade sweaters are given to boarding school children of the Navajo Nation. Kathy, your generous spirit is an inspiration for us all!

VICTOR “VIC” MUTH Born in Booneville, Indiana, Vic had one older brother and four younger sisters, and attended Evansville College in Indiana. He served in the 101st Airborne Division experiences he now shares with fellow All Seasons veterans, an active group.

Vic entered the workforce as a salesman for Wholesale Hardware Company in Evansville and later in Owensboro, Kentucky. In 1954, he joined forces with his brother and their best friend to clear out an apartment graced with, as Vic puts it, “three babes.” The trio married all three!

Years later, he and Patty were blessed with two daughters.

After several job changes, promotions, and moves—to Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago—and another promotion, this time to manager, the family landed in Cincinnati.

In 1984, their youngest, a synchronized swimming champion and three-time All American, graduated from Ohio State University. The next year her dad joined with partners to buy out his company then moved to Encinitas, California, to manage western regional sales, distribution. and manufacturing.

In 1990, they sold the company to new owners who knew enough to retain Vic until he retired in 1997 and moved next door to Carlsbad. In 2005, he and Patty exchanged palm trees for cactus, and bought a home in Saddlebrooke Ranch, which they sold in 2021 to move into All Seasons.

Over the years Vic has enjoyed fishing for bass and salmon. Now he stays closer to home to enjoy All Seasons happy hours and music, and share his experiences in resident talks.

LINCOLN CENTER MOMENTS Lincoln Center Moments is a free performance-based program specially designed for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Join us as we bring Lincoln Center's unparalleled artistry to an intimate and supported setting. Virtual programs are 90 minutes long, including live and recorded performances and activities facilitated by educators and music therapists that explore the work through discussion, movement, music, and art-making.

FITNESS CLASSES

The Berliner Philharmoniker is widely recognized as one of the finest and most highly esteemed orchestras in the world. In December, listeners can look forward to a legendary concert when these two international stars, who have known each other since childhood, appear together.

Martha Argerich plays the solo part in Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto, in which the young composer seems absolutely exuberant. Under Daniel Barenboim – honorary conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker – Johannes Brahms’s Third Symphony, which vacillates between major and minor, will also be heard.

DIANE DESKIN Diane has spent over 30 years practicing and teaching Aikido, a traditional Japanese martial art.

Diane founded Sonoran Aikikai in 2002 and is Chief Instructor for this traditional school of Aikido.

Diane has also studied numerous movement systems, and has developed an approach that is engaging and beneficial to the body, brain and central nervous system. She offers challenging, creative classes that are intended to develop body awareness, improve mobility and balance, and most importantly to remember that we were made to move.

JEANNE NEWKIRK A graduate of the University of Arizona, Illinois native Jeanne got started in the fitness industry originally as a hobby from her full time position as an English Teacher. She is proudly certified in all areas of SilverSneakers, Aqua Aerobics, Aerobic drumming, and Piloxing, which is a combination of boxing, pilates and ballet. Jeanne is a wonderful addition to the fitness team!

PAM WOLFE Pam is a certified fitness professional with over 40 years experience in the sports and exercise industry. She holds certifications through AFAA/ NASM and Silver Sneakers as a group exercise instructor and personal trainer. Pam motivates her participants by emphasizing safety, creativity and fun. She designs standards that will ensure participants and clients can continue with regular exercise and improve in order to meet goals without injuries or discouragement, including transitioning from post-rehab back to a regular MARYGRACE NAUGHTON exercise regiment. Pam has been a presenter at With over 20+ years of Yoga and Meditation Instruction, MaryGrace various fitness conferences and continually conducts clinics for various sports and overall wellness joins us most recently from Miraval education. Pam was a competitive gymnast while Health and Wellness Spa. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with attending the University of Denver, majoring in Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges business management and sports science. the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS).

Join Susan Ward as she leads the Foreign Policy Association’s (FPA) Great Decisions program by helping facilitate discussion groups and lectures that give participants the opportunity to expand their understanding of world affairs.

Topics change annually, are based on the Foreign Policy Association’s nonpartisan book and highlight thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans.

2024 TOPICS INCLUDE: UNDERSTANDING INDONESIA Despite its large size, Indonesia remains virtually invisible to most Americans. “Cashmere Night” By Roger Pierce A cashmere night fell soft, Drifting, flowing, Draping the shadowed mountain, Filling canyons and crevices, painting jagged stone bluffs in deep, rich blackness.

Soon the gift of quiet followed, the noise and clatter of day subdued and finally silenced.

We watched the sun slowly sink into the watery horizon, last rays becoming shafts of dusky gold.

We hummed a simple tune, wordless accompaniment to day’s departure, until I realized that my sound alone

bade farewell to the visible.

You slept gracefully, as if you had been lifted from my arms and carried away with the last notes of the fading song.

Gently, so gently I lifted you from the warm grass and, like an acolyte carrying all that is sacred, I walked along the moonlit path to the place where earth and heaven embrace.

You smiled once, still deep in sleep.

And the vast sweep of stars, newly arrived in the infant night, ceased their twinkling in deference to the sheer delight of looking upon your face.
