New York State Auctioneers Gather for Annual Convention Auctioneers from across the state convened this past weekend for the New York State Auctioneers Association (NYSAA) annual convention. The conference was held this year at the Marriott in Albany, NY, February 15-17.

Highlights of this year’s convention included the Hall of Fame and Auctioneer of the Year Awards, the Bid Calling Championship, Fun Auction, Marketing Awards, the election of the Board of Directors and the Presidential Banquet.

Throughout the weekend, Auctioneers were presented with dynamic and engaging educational seminars from industry leading Auctioneers and presenters including Greg Magnus of ER Munro; Morgan Hopson, 2019 IAC; Aaron Traffas and Helen Rothburg, PhD. Brayden Webber of Penn Yan was crowned the 2020 NYSAA Bid Calling Champion with Carrie Hessney-Doran, crowned the Reserve Champion. Sam Kapur of Saratoga Springs was crowned the 2020 NYSAA Rookie Champion.

The highest awards conveyed to an Auctioneer in the NYSAA is an induction into the NYSAA Auctioneer’s Hall of Fame and to be crowned the Auctioneer of the Year. John and Jean Gokey of North Hudson, NY were inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame class. James Mason of Fillmore, NY was awarded Auctioneer of the Year.

2020 Wedding Expo Canceled After discussions with Laura’s Bridal, we have determined that we will need to cancel the 2020 Wedding Expo on Friday, March 27 at West Side Ballroom. We will not be rescheduling the event.

This was a difficult decision to make, but ultimately it’s out of our hands. We have an abundance of concern for our guests, vendors and staff during this coronavirus / COVID-19 outbreak, and with Gov. Cuomo and the CDC enforcing social distancing, large gatherings are no longer encouraged, and in some cases, allowed.

According to Blue Cross for Pets, cats are most likely to encounter ticks if they live near areas with lots of deer and sheep or in regions where other wildlife, such as hedgehogs and rabbits, are present. While ticks are active throughout the year, cats are most likely to encounter them between spring and autumn. That’s due in part to the climate during these seasons, which tends to be warmer and therefore more inviting to cats, compelling them to spend more time outdoors than they do in winter.

Ticks, which are egg-shaped, are big enough to spot, so cat owners should conduct a careful examination of their cats’ fur each time they come into the house after spending time in the yard. Blue Cross for Pets notes that ticks feel like small bumps on a cat’s skin. Ticks are most likely to attach themselves to particular areas of a cat’s body. These areas include the head, neck, ears, and feet. Routine brushing, especially whenever cats come inside after time spent outdoors, can help cat owners spot and remove ticks from their cats. It’s important to recognize that indoor cats are not invulnerable to ticks, as other pets and humans can track ticks indoors. Periodic inspections and brushing of indoor cats’ can protect them from ticks and the diseases ticks carry.
