SHRINE TO JAINISM
The goal was to design a religious shrine pavilion that honors a Jainism religion. This is a small space that is visited by believers of this faith for reflection and worship. Procession and circulation in spiritual architecture are important, as many faiths emphasize one’s life journey and improvement. The design is deeply integrated with the guiding concepts of Jainism.

Natural materials are used in the space the represent Jainism’s connection to nature. Artificial boxwood was added to create a pop of color and bring nature into the space.

The perspective provides a view of the worship space. The main element is images of the 24 Tirthankaras that are spread throughout the space to guide the client’s view toward the altar. The dome over the worship space symbolizes eternity and the journey of becoming closer to liberation.

The section view of the space highlights the progression of the main path from the entrance to the worship space. The path becomes narrower as the believer walks towards the worship space to symbolize the difficulty of the journey. In the end, there is a dome that symbolizes the final point which is liberation.
