Who is Buying Tickets? (Across All Regions)
Across the entire regional circuit, women are the primary decision-makers, making up between 59% to nearly 80% of the total audience. Depending on the specific region, the buying demographic generally falls into three main categories:

• The Mature & Engaged Crowd (45–65+): In several premium and coastal hubs, this mature demographic represents the backbone of ticket sales, often attending as couples or organising group bookings for a cultural night out with friends.

• The Multi-Generational Split: Many regions see a distinct “two-wave” audience—highly active young adults or millennials (25–34) seeking local experiences, balanced by a loyal, deeply supportive senior crowd (55+).

• Young Families & Road-Trippers: Bustling coastal and regional destinations see heavy engagement from young families looking for daytime activities, alongside a massive influx of older tourists and grey nomads.

Essential Regional Marketing Tips
No matter which region you are touring, regional audiences thrive on local connection, community pride, and direct communication. Use these strategies to fill your seats:
Town Noticeboard: In regions like Eyre Peninsula (Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Ceduna) and the Clare Valley, community Facebook groups are the digital town square. Don’t just run generic ads—post a warm, personal message directly into these groups introducing yourself and your show to get the locals talking.

Word-of-Mouth: In close-knit communities (such as Fleurieu hubs like Willunga, Aldinga, or Goolwa), word-of-mouth is your most powerful asset. If the locals love your concept, they will advocate for you. Focus on grassroots outreach, and consider offering group booking incentives to encourage friends to come together.

Low-to-Moderate Digital Zones: In areas where overall online engagement is a bit lower, a friendly, direct digital approach is even more critical. Keep your online presence straightforward, highly accessible, and deeply personal to bridge the gap and build immediate trust.

Riverland
Set along the Murray River, the Riverland blends laidback river culture with strong community connection. Audiences respond well to comedy, music and storytelling, especially work that feels warm and personal. Expect adaptable venues, winery spaces and loyal crowds who value artists sticking around for a post-show chat.

Berri: 2 hours and 40 minutes from Adelaide, 20 minutes from Loxton

For us, the regional shows are a no brainer.”

Don’t forget artists and venues can apply for specific regional funding! Hear from one of our previous regional venue grant recipients... “Whilst many people travel to Adelaide to experience the wonders of Fringe, many people have in recent years struggled to accommodate the trip given the economic climate. Through the Fringe Fund and broader support of Adelaide Fringe, we have been able to provide our community with a space to access arts and culture. By providing a diverse programme of styles of arts, pricing, accessibility and demographic target audience, we have truly developed a festival where there is ‘something for everyone’.” - Adelaide Fringe Fund recipient
