It’s always a good time to swap city life for Island magic.
Kangaroo Island is one of SA’s treasures. And the best time to visit is: always!
With roaming wildlife, jaw-dropping landscapes and an abundance of fresh produce, each season has its appeal. And there’s something extra special about getting cosy in winter or seeing the budding new life across the island in spring.
With the exciting arrival of SeaLink’s two brand-new, state-of-the-art ferries this year, the journey to Kangaroo Island is about to get a whole lot better...
The ferries are significantly larger, with more space for vehicles and easier vehicle loading as you can drive on and off in one direction. And you’ll love the enhanced on-board experience, with a larger cafe, a spacious sundeck, free wi-fi and modern lounges with views for days. There’s even a dedicated, secure pet lounge!
With the introduction of the two new ferries, SeaLink has added extra daily departures providing greater flexibility around when you want to get to KI.
Nature lovers will have the time of their lives when visiting in the middle of the year. Winter is the perfect time for a scenic hike and the Western River’s Waterfall Creek hike is the best way to experience the untouched beauty of the land. It’s also when the southern right whales visit and spotting these giants is always a sight. Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for kangas and their little joeys too, as they start to peek their heads out of their mothers’ pouches. Cuteness overload!
Winter also brings back the Gutsy Kangaroo Island festival, which celebrates KI’s incredible producers. Embrace the wintery weather, bring your beanie, boots and an empty stomach, and indulge in hearty meals by roaring fires alongside the locals.
As spring rolls around and the weather warms up, you’ll spot sea lions basking in the sun. It’s also mild enough to start getting out on the water — paddle a kayak, go hiking or cycling, or catch some of Australia’s freshest seafood!
There’s something therapeutic about watching a skilled shearer at work and when you visit Kangaroo Island Wool, you’ll walk away with a greater appreciation for the luxurious Merino wool they produce. Take a tour of the working mill to witness the transformation of raw wool into high-quality garments that are in demand all over the world! Enjoy a sensory experience that will have you begging for more at the family-
owned Emu Ridge Distillery. Take a selfguided tour to learn about the eucalyptus distilling process, shop their range of products at the farm gate retail store, then perch yourself at the cafe for a snack.
No trip to the island is complete without a visit to Australia’s first dedicated gin distillery — Kangaroo Island Spirits. These guys have mastered the art of botanical brilliance, so you can sit back and sip your way through a tasting paddle of award-winning spirits infused with locally foraged ingredients. Or you could blend your own gin and take home a special memory in a bottle!
Winter brings abundant seafood like King George whiting and the freshest oysters, so you know you’ll find an incredible feast on KI! In spring, you can’t leave the island without sampling some famous KI honey, which the bees are busy making in the warmer months.
Is there anything better than curling up by the fireplace with a glass of KI red in winter? There are so many accommodation options across the island, from camping right through to luxury stays, with sprawling views to watch the stormy seas in the cooler months or catch those early rays of sunshine as spring sets in.
SeaLink offers guided tours, self-drive packages and a range of accommodation options, so planning your trip has never been easier! Their perfectly curated itineraries showcase the best of the island’s wildlife, stunning scenery and quality local produce.
Ready to swap the daily grind for Island time? Kangaroo Island is calling and just a booking away! To book with SeaLink, call 13 13 01 or visit their website.

Aloha and mahalo…
In the words of Coldplay, this place is “para-para-paradise”. That’s exactly what we were singing when Phil Hoffmann Travel whisked 26 of us holiday-loving South Aussies onto Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America for seven unforgettable nights. From sunsets to snorkelling, this trip had it all! But what truly made it magical were the people who came along for the ride.
Meet some of our crew…
While celebrating his 80th birthday alongside his wife of over 50 years, Les stole our hearts. With his twinkly eyes, camcorder permanently in hand and endless enthusiasm, he was the life of the party! From chatting about his grandkids and love of country music to cutting loose on the dance floor, Les savoured every moment like a 20-year-old would. His joy was contagious and showed us you’re never too old to have fun.
At 89 years young, it was Helen’s first solo holiday without her late husband,
John. Helen danced until one in the morning, joined in on most excursions and made a lifelong friend in fellow solo adventurer, Kathy, who ended up sharing a room with her. She’s already signed up for her next Adelady trip — what a legend!
Sisters and besties Sharon and Joey made their Hawaiian debut celebrating Sharon’s 50th birthday with their first holiday away sans kids. They dove headfirst into island life: cocktails, turtles, beaches and dance floors. These two were pure fun and their gratitude for the experience and each other was so beautiful.
FROM SUNSETS TO SNORKELLING, THIS TRIP HAD IT ALL! BUT WHAT TRULY MADE IT MAGICAL WERE THE PEOPLE WHO CAME ALONG FOR THE RIDE.
Kate’s family reunion
Kate brought her family together to celebrate her 40th birthday and her parents’ anniversary. With her sister and brother-in-law flying in from Canada, they spent precious time exploring islands, hiring cars, swimming with turtles and belting out karaoke. It was the ultimate reunion before life whisked them back to different corners of the globe.
Rob and Carol
Talk about couple goals! These two celebrated 37 years of marriage with cheeky grins and adventurous spirits. It wasn’t their first time on Pride of America — they returned for more Hawaiian magic. It also made them the perfect tour guides, because they knew where to go. Whether they were cracking jokes or exploring the islands, they were our kindred spirits on this trip.
The ship
Let’s talk about Pride of America, which is the only cruise ship dedicated to Hawaii! It’s an all-American resort at sea, complete with cosy staterooms, dreamy deck views and world-class dining.
The food? Delicious! The beauty of a cruise is it’s all-inclusive, so you can dine at the buffet or at their specialty restaurants without ever getting your wallet out. Nights were filled with live music in the piano bar, epic group karaoke sessions and lots of laughter!
Cruising the Hawaiian islands is the best way to holiday because you only have to unpack once, but wake up every day at a new island. It’s the easiest, most stressfree way to explore this tropical paradise.
Although the day we arrived was rather windy, Maui welcomed us with pristine beaches and snorkelling adventures. Kaua’i, the ‘Garden Isle’ left us breathless with helicopter rides over the Na Pali Coast, while Big Island was a volcanic wonderland with black sand beaches and lava fields that made us feel like we were on another planet!
Each day brought new adventures — sea turtles, waterfalls and picture-perfect
views. It was like flipping through a travel magazine… but in real life.
If Hawaii is on your bucket list, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America will make your trip super easy. But for us, it was more than the ease of daily mango daiquiris and swimming with turtles; it was Les’s twinkly-eyed stories, Helen’s dance floor moves and island hopping with two besties.
So, grab your gaggle of friends and book your little Hawaiian holiday by contacting our friends at Phil Hoffmann Travel. They’ll take care of everything, so all you need to do is get on that plane and sip on a Mai Tai. Aloha!

PHOTOS Journey Beyond Rail
Are you ready to travel 3,000 kilometres across Australia on The Ghan with us?
If you’ve ever daydreamt about crossing the country in style while sipping local wine and soaking up the most breathtaking landscapes, let us introduce you to The Ghan. Most people have heard of this magical rail experience, but not everyone’s been lucky enough to travel on it… let alone twice, like we have!
This isn’t just a train journey — it’s an all-inclusive, luxurious moving hotel complete with gourmet food, amazing company and off-train experiences you’ll be telling your besties about for years.
Let’s start with the fancy cabins you mightn’t have seen yet… because The Ghan upped its game! You can now book the brand-new Gold Premium class cabins, which are a gorgeous middle ground between Gold and Platinum.
You might be wondering what makes Gold Premium so special? For starters, the cabins have been completely refurbished, offering a stylish and cosy
space with extra perks that make your experience even more memorable. Think elevated wines to choose from and even more choice of off-train experiences, plus those thoughtful touches that make you feel like you’re being wrapped in luxury. Did anyone say night cap? Yes please!
This is probably the part that will surprise you the most. How do they serve a fresh and exquisite fine-dining menu three times a day, all while celebrating the regions you’re passing through? Magic? Could be! All we know is the train crew on The Ghan made sure we never went hungry or thirsty. And you can leave your wallet in your room because everything — all the food, the wine, the cocktails, the coffees and the off-train experiences — are all included in the price of your ticket!
But the train is just part of your journey. The off-train experiences are out of
this world and take you to places that you wouldn’t be able see otherwise. In Katherine, you’ll cruise the Nitmiluk Gorge and learn about the region’s rich Aboriginal culture. In Alice Springs, you’ll discover the Red Centre’s rugged beauty. And in Manguri, guests are invited off the train to enjoy a nightcap around a bonfire while taking in the brilliant carpet of bright stars on a clear night.
What really sets The Ghan apart isn’t just the scenery or the wine list, although both are divine. It’s the train crew! From the moment you step on board, the crew treats you like you’re royalty! They have incredibly personalised service, even learning all the guests’ names and drink preferences! It’s this attention to detail that builds a truly next-level experience. Their warmth, professionalism and passion for what they do is an absolute stand-out!
If you're fortunate enough to travel, then there’s nothing quite like The Ghan.
And if you’ve been thinking, ‘I’ll do The Ghan one day’, this is your sign to book now.
Trust us, once you’ve experienced the magic of this iconic Australian journey, you’ll wonder why you didn’t climb on board sooner!
And just remember, what you’re investing in is memories.

THE BEST BREWERIES, DISTILLERIES AND WINERIES FROM WALLAROO TO STANSBURY.
WORDS Felicity Allan
If you love a good drop and a bit of adventure, Yorke Peninsula’s Tasters’ Trail is calling you!
This self-guided itinerary of the best breweries, distilleries and wineries from Wallaroo to Stansbury is a must. So gather your pals, hit the road and treat your tastebuds to some of South Australia’s finest...
The ultimate triple threat — a restaurant, distillery and brewery all in one! With a top-tier selection of beers brewed
on site and expertly crafted cocktails, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Sample a tasting paddle, pair your drinks with a delicious meal and settle in for a culinary experience you won’t forget.
This proudly independent microbrewery and taproom is located just outside of Kadina. The beer garden beckons with a selection of seasonal ales and lagers, all brewed here. But these guys know that beer’s not for everyone… so with that in mind, they offer delicious gin cocktails on tap and an all-day toastie menu! Whatever you’re in the mood for, they’ve got something to satisfy your craving.
A heavenly spot where handcrafted spirits meet stunning rural views. Sunny Hill Distillery’s signature moonshine and gin will warm you from the inside out, and their laidback country hospitality is second to none. Find a spot on the deck or the grass and admire the rolling hills and blue skies as you sip till your heart’s content!
The Hollitt family ethos is ‘life is too short to drink poor wines’, so they produce small-batch wines bursting with personality. Stop in and stock up on some shiraz or riesling to take home, or stay a little longer when the food trucks and live music roll in.
In the mood for some more wine tasting? Barley Stacks Wines is the place to do it! The grapes grown in their vineyards are crushed, fermented, stored and bottled right on site. They have a strong focus on environmental sustainability and the production of high-quality wines. Sip, swirl and savour the flavours of the wines, paired with a pizza or local cheese platter.
If you’re a fan of craft beer, Watsacowie Brewing Company is a must-visit. Their eclectic line-up of brews, vodka seltzers and alcoholic ginger beers means there’s something on offer for everyone. Pull up a stool, grab a tasting paddle and enjoy live music while you sip on the freshest pints around.
For a true taste of the ocean, Lost Tide Spirit Co. brings a unique coastal influence to their spirits. Their small-batch gins, liqueurs and vodkas are a testament to Yorke Peninsula’s maritime heritage,
making them a great choice for a postbeach sunset drink. Take a guided spirit tasting, learn about their distilling methods and of course, stock up for the home bar!
Yorke Peninsula’s Tasters’ Trail proudly shows off the region’s thriving beverage scene. This is your call to designate a driver and set off on a journey of flavour, fun and fantastic scenery.

All over our state, there’s a plethora of art to immerse yourself in throughout the year.
Whether you’re an art buff, or just looking for an excuse to take a road trip and explore the state, here are some events that will spark your imagination and ignite your creative spirit...
May–September 2025, Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) Art and activism go hand-in-hand and the Dangerously Modern exhibition is a testament to that. This first-of-its-kind exhibition highlights the contributions of Australian female artists in shaping modernist movements across Europe from 1890 to 1940.
Featuring over 200 works, the exhibition showcases paintings, prints, sculptures and ceramics that
challenge traditional notions of ambition and artistic success. In the wake of South Australia’s 130th anniversary of women’s suffrage, this exhibition is a fitting tribute to trailblazing female artists who defied societal expectations and redefined the art world.
August 2025, state-wide
When winter rolls around, South Australia’s art scene heats up! As the country’s largest visual arts festival, SALA transforms the entire state into an open gallery. With exhibitions popping up in cafes, wineries, public spaces and traditional galleries, this eclectic range of exhibitions showcases emerging and established artists alike. The festival not only celebrates local talent but also encourages regional tourism, giving visitors the chance to road trip across the state in search of artistic delights.
For nearly three decades, Country Arts SA has been bringing quality artistic experiences to regional South Australia. In 2025, they continue their commitment to celebrating local talent with a diverse line-up of exhibitions, performances and community-driven art projects. Highlights include Blak Country, a showcase of First Nations country music artists; and Saltbush Country, an ongoing exhibition featuring works by exceptional female First Nations artists. With events in Whyalla, Goolwa, Murray Bridge, Bordertown and Mount Gambier, Country Arts SA ensures that regional audiences have access to world-class cultural experiences right on their doorstep.
June, Coober Pedy
If you’re looking for something completely different, the opal capital of the world delivers. Coober Pedy hosts this vibrant three-day celebration of its mining heritage, fusing dazzling opal displays with craft markets, live entertainment and cultural storytelling.
Visitors can explore the town’s growing art scene, including Aboriginal art at Umoona Community Arts Centre and the eclectic works at Josephine’s Gallery. The festival presents an exciting opportunity to connect art with the region’s history and culture, while supporting local artists and businesses.
October 2025–January 2026, Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) Celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2025, Tarnanthi remains the premier showcase of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art in Australia. Hosted by AGSA and supported by partner venues across the state, the festival presents hundreds of works from past and present artists, highlighting the diversity, innovation and storytelling traditions of First Nations creators.
Expect thought-provoking exhibitions, artist talks, workshops and performances that provide a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. With its focus on community engagement and artistic excellence, Tarnanthi continues to be a cultural cornerstone in South Australia’s art scene.
With such a dynamic line-up of exhibitions and festivals, there’s no shortage of artistic inspiration to be found. Mark your calendar and start planning your art travels now!

Ahoy! It’s time to take the family on a Port Adelaide adventure…
This old maritime hub still holds strong ties to its fascinating history while making way for the next generation of explorers. There’s so much waiting for you in Port Adelaide, so let’s dive in!
On the Port River, just 25 minutes from Adelaide, you’ll find quaint cobbled laneways bursting with character and beautifully preserved warehouses. Old meets new with a resurgence of gentrification in the area — from trendy cafes to lively breweries and aquatic activities.
Nothing fuels a family adventure like a good brekky and Port Adelaide has plenty of options to satisfy every appetite.
The Banksia Tree Cafe offers locally sourced, sustainable eats with plenty of kid-friendly options. For a room with a view, indulge yourself at Pancakes at The Port — a family-owned eatery perched on the waterfront.
Bellies full, it’s time to uncover Port Adelaide’s rich heritage. Start at the South Australian Maritime Museum, where kids can explore shipwrecks, climb aboard old vessels and learn about the voyages of seafarers and migrants. Or hire a free bike from the Visitor Centre for an easy ride to the historic Clipper Ship — an 1864 vessel saved from destruction in Scotland.
For railfans, the National Railway Museum is a must-visit! Brush up on Australia’s railway history and ride a working miniature train. If flying is more your thing, step back in time at the South Australian Aviation Museum and get interactive with their aircraft display.
Ghost Crime Tours run every Saturday night around some of the spookiest streets in The Port. There’s also a selfguided Port Adelaide Heritage Walk for the faint-hearted, where you’ll discover grand 19th-century buildings, old pubs and a range of eclectic street art.
After a busy morning, head to Pirate Life Brewing, where adults can enjoy a craft beer while kids dig into a delicious burger or pizza. The relaxed atmosphere and open space make it delightfully familyfriendly — even doggies are welcome!
Our gluten-free friends will be pleased with the extensive menu at the Port Admiral Hotel, where every dish is served 100 percent gluten free. They cater to a broad range of dietary needs, so don’t hesitate to order up.
The Lighthouse Wharf Hotel, known for its fresh seafood and friendly service,
is a great alternative to take in views of the river over lunch. On a sunny day, BYO picnic lunch at Hart’s Mill Playground and don’t forget to keep an eye out for dolphins passing by!
One of the best ways to get friendly with the famous Port River dolphins is to get out for a paddle with Dolphin Sanctuary Kayak Tours or Adventure Kayaking SA. You can wade through the 10,000-yearold mangrove forest as dolphins frolic alongside you! This activity is one for the whole family, as you don’t need any kayaking experience and you’ll be guided the whole way.
For a different perspective of the river, hop aboard a comfortable, undercover vessel with Port River Cruises. These boat tours offer a chance to learn about the area’s maritime history and enjoy some dolphin spotting without getting wet!
JUST A SHORT DRIVE AWAY ARE SEMAPHORE AND LARGS BAY BEACHES, WHERE KIDS CAN SPLASH IN THE SHALLOWS, BUILD SANDCASTLES AND PLAY IN THE PLAYGROUNDS.
After an action-packed afternoon, it’s time to slow down and enjoy some of Port Adelaide’s nearby coastal beauty. Just a short drive away are Semaphore and Largs Bay beaches, where kids can splash in the shallows, build sandcastles and play in the playgrounds. Then wrap up your perfect day with a sunset stroll along the jetty.
If you’re staying for dinner, Port Adelaide has fantastic family-friendly dining options! Low & Slow American BBQ is a hit with kids and adults alike, serving up mouth-watering smoked meats, mac ‘n’ cheese and southern-style sides. While you’re there, it would be a sin not to take home a bottle of their signature Classic Texan Special BBQ Sauce.
La Popular Taqueria serves up fresh, authentic Mexican food that honours the spirit of the ‘taco holy trinity’ — a handmade tortilla, a homemade filling and a vibrant salsa. Sí sí!
With so much to see and do, why not turn your day trip into a weekend escape? Stay at the family-friendly apartments at the Quest Port Adelaide, or camp at the nearby Discovery Park in Semaphore, where the beach is your backyard. For accommodation with a nod to the heritage of The Port, the iconic Largs Pier Hotel is a haven for weary sailors.
Port Adelaide is a treasure trove of history, gastronomy, wildlife and seaside adventure just waiting for your family to navigate!

This trusted organisation in Adelaide’s north-east is sharing its must-visit destinations.
Celebrating 69 years of business in 2025, Paradise Mazda is a family-owned success story with the local community at the heart of everything it stands for. It’s the
kind of business that will sell a newlywed couple a car and still be working with the family 20 years later, when the kids come back to buy one for themselves.
The team at Paradise Mazda has nearly 70 years clocked up on the roads, cruising around in their new and used vehicles. So we asked owners Jeff, Jenny and Ben Neale to share their must-visits in this corner of SA.
“For a day out with your family and loved ones, I’d say you’re best off taking the Mazda CX-80 for a cruise around the Adelaide foothills. It combines a familyfriendly experience with a touch of luxury, and with both PHEV and mild hybrid options available, it’s a car that ticks all the boxes for eco-conscious families,” recommends Paradise Mazda’s General Manager, Ben Neale.
Start your adventure at Gorge Wildlife Park, a family favourite just a short drive from the Paradise Mazda showroom! It’s the ideal spot for a day out, where kids and adults can get up close with native Australian wildlife. From kangaroos and koalas to emus and wallabies, there’s plenty to see and learn.
Unwind at the Rezz Hotel, a local favourite that combines classic Aussie pub vibes with delicious food and a great atmosphere. Enjoy a cold drink and a meal with friends or family, then take a leisurely stroll along the nearby River Torrens, following the beautifully maintained walking paths of Linear Park.
For those who appreciate a good drop, Glen Ewin Estate should be next on your list. Take a tour of the grounds, indulge in a wine-tasting session and enjoy the stunning views. Or, indulge in something a little bit different, like a picnic on the grounds with a hamper provided by Glen Ewin Estate, or fig picking during the summer and autumn harvest.
“THAT’S WHY WE GET UP EVERY DAY, TO WORK WITH OUR TEAM AND SERVE OUR CUSTOMERS THE BEST WAY THAT WE CAN.”
If you’re up for a scenic drive, venture a little further along the windy roads to Kersbrook Hill Wines & Cider. It’s not just about the wine, even though it is delicious. Kersbrook Hill is also known for its tasty wood oven pizzas, making it the ideal spot to enjoy a relaxed lunch.
The Neale family and the extended Paradise Mazda team are ready to welcome you inside, whatever the reason — a new car, a used car, a quality car service or, simply just to chat about their legacy and the community around them.

“Our family has been behind this business for 69 years. One family, 69 years,” smiles Dealership Principal Jeff Neale. “We’re very proud to run the business together, but more importantly, we’re proud of the team that we have working here with us. That’s why we get up every day, to work with our team and serve our customers the best way that we can. And, we hope to be here for many years to come.”

Complete Home Filtration is helping SA families eliminate unwanted chemicals.
How much do you know about what’s in your tap water? If the answer is ‘not much’, then… same!
Here’s a quick lesson:
As South Australian water travels long distances through the heat, it needs disinfectants like chlorine and chloramine to protect it and make it safe to drink — which can be tricky to remove. These chemicals can also have an impact on the taste and smell, as well as your skin and hair.
Enter Suzanne Dodds, the founder of Complete Home Filtration, who’s on a mission to bring cleaner water into our homes.
Over the past 18 years, her passion for water filtration has grown, leading her to design whole-home solutions. After years of research and cutting-edge technology development, Suzanne has created a multi-award-winning, tailored filtration system for Australian homes.
Suzanne gave us three reasons why we all need Complete Home Filtration in our lives (and homes):
“OUR CUSTOMERS REPORT SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS IN THEIR SKIN AND HAIR JUST SIX WEEKS AFTER SWITCHING TO FILTERED WATER.”
1. Adios, chemicals!
“As a mum, I love knowing that my kids are getting the cleanest possible water each day. Installing a filtration system that removes the chemicals, by-products and heavy metals that are in SA water (which are added to make it safe to consume), gives me peace of mind — and I want that for other Aussie mums! And the bonus: our water tastes better, so we drink more of it.”
2. Looking (and feeling) lush
“If you’re on a mission for softer skin and hair, a filtration system could be the answer! Our customers report significant improvements in their skin and hair just six weeks after making the switch.”
3. Peace of mind
“Customer care is at the heart of everything we do. We’ll test your water and then design a filtration system
tailored to your needs. We also check in yearly to ensure your water quality stays top-notch. We truly want the very best for our customers, and clean and filtered water is a great place to start.”
If you’re now desperate to find out how to make your water even cleaner, book a free in-home water consultation online. The Complete Home Filtration team will take it from there!
It’s simple to make the best decision for your home.

Walford leaves a lasting impact on everyone who walks through its gates.
From inspiring teachers to lifelong friendships and endless opportunities to follow your passions, it’s easy to see why Walford means so much to so many. To capture what makes it so special, we invited four incredible Walford women — a teacher, a current student and two old scholars, including Adelady’s very own Hayley Pearson, to share their experiences.
Hayley Pearson — old scholar and Co-Founder of Adelady
“From the moment I walked through the gates at Walford, I was surrounded by people who genuinely believed in me and wanted me to succeed,” says Hayley. Encouraged to explore everything from academics to sports and the arts, she found an inner confidence that shaped
her future. “As a teenager, when selfdoubt could’ve taken over, Walford made me feel that anything was possible. My teachers would all probably agree I talked too much in class, but their belief in me drove me to achieve what I’ve accomplished today. I’m so grateful to be part of a community that inspires and uplifts one another.”
With 13 years at Walford already under her belt, 15-year-old Madeline reflects on her journey so far. “I feel so lucky to have grown up in such a supportive school. I never expected to enjoy my academics so much, while also getting involved in activities like choir, band and various sports. I’m very grateful to all my friends, coaches and teachers at Walford for creating such a safe and encouraging environment and am really looking forward to what my final three years will bring!”
Throughout her 14 years at the school, Taylah benefitted from Walford’s enduring approach of empowering each girl to achieve ‘Her Best, Her Way’. Walford provided her with the academic foundation to pursue a Bachelor of Medical Imaging while also excelling as an athlete and umpire, including becoming the only female boundary umpire in the senior squad of the SANFL. “Walford taught me resilience and showed me that there are no barriers for girls in STEM, leadership or sport. I’ll always be grateful for my lifelong friendships and the confidence and core values that were instilled in me.”
For Alice, teaching was an unexpected calling that began when she visited Walford as a guest speaker in her thencareer as an accountant. This experience opened her eyes to a new career, and years later, she returned to Walford as a

teacher. “The breadth and depth of the Walford community continues to amaze me. The old scholars who return to share their journeys are truly inspiring for our current students. It’s a cycle of support and giving that’s synonymous with the Walford community and culture. Here, we know every girl as both a student and a person. Watching them flourish in the classroom and then go on to lead in their own unique ways in the world is a privilege like no other.”
From the classroom to the world, the women of Walford are making their mark. It’s a place where friendships bloom, passions grow and every girl is empowered to follow her dreams. Once a Walford girl, always a Walford girl — because the spirit of Walford stays with you wherever life takes you.

It’s unbelievable how much The Hospital Research Foundation Group has achieved in its 60 years!
As this milestone rolls around in 2025, we’ve been uncovering even more about the life-changing impact The Group’s had on the South Australian community.
Here are six of The Group’s most significant achievements in 60 years, made possible thanks to generous donors, fundraisers and supporters of The Hospital Research Foundation Home Lottery.
In 1965, the Southern Hemisphere’s first live kidney transplant was performed right here at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, sparking the creation of The Hospital Research Foundation Group.
They have since grown from supporting a single hospital to funding research and patient care across South Australia and Australia.
The Group has supported transplant research throughout its 60 years and played a pivotal role in funding South Australia’s first islet cell transplant for type 1 diabetes in 2010.
The first recipient, Margaret Harrigan, had been living with type 1 diabetes for 35 years and was enduring up to three hypo episodes a day.
“One day, I was eating dinner in front of the TV with my husband and the next minute, I was on the ground with him looking over me — I had passed out,” Margaret said.
After the islet cell transplant, Margaret’s life changed dramatically and she no longer experienced the hypos that once had such a dangerous impact on her life.
Across The Hospital Research Foundation Group’s history, 50 percent of its funding each year has been used to directly attack common and rare cancers from all angles.
The ultimate goal is to find a cure and more effective treatments so that cancer becomes a manageable chronic disease, rather than a death sentence.
Thanks to The Group’s support, critical breast cancer research, spearheaded by Associate Professor Wendy Ingman from the University of Adelaide and Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health Research, has led to women’s increased knowledge about breast density.
Dense breasts are common and normal, but they also increase a woman’s risk of breast cancer and make it harder to see on a mammogram. As a result, Breastscreen SA now notifies women of their breast density during mammograms, empowering them to make informed decisions about their health.
Understanding the importance of gut health has come a long way in 60 years, largely thanks to The Hospital Research Foundation Group.
NONE OF THESE INITIATIVES WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY.
In 2016, it funded Australia’s first poo bank, BiomeBank, which was pivotal in trialling and proving that stool transplants cure some chronic bowel conditions like Clostridioides difficile (C-diff) — a bacterial infection that causes diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain and nausea.
This treatment is now being trialled on other diseases, like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
For Morgan Goss, a stool transplant was life-changing. Diagnosed with C-diff at 23, Morgan was left with vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, exhaustion and in and out of hospital. She was eventually recommended a stool transplant, which ended up being a miracle treatment.
“Within 48 hours, all my symptoms had resolved. I went from feeling so bad to just feeling great, like it never happened,” Morgan said.
The Hospital Research Foundation Group is also one of the few charities that can respond quickly in a crisis. When COVID-19 struck, it quickly funded vaccine research, supported frontline workers and provided essential equipment that helped vulnerable community members receive their treatment at home.
And when the 2019/20 Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island bushfires hit, The Group acted swiftly to provide emergency funding for first responders battling the fires.
The Group has also assisted other charities with grants and funding to help them continue their important work, like Treasure Boxes, Taboo, Rare Find Foundation, Childhood Dementia Initiative and others.
Under Our Roof is a special service that provides country cancer patients and their families a comforting place to stay while receiving treatment in Adelaide.
The Hospital Research Foundation Group has four beautiful, family-style homes (two at Woodville West and two at Bowden), which allow a patient’s support network to stay with them. The Group is also looking to raise even more money to fund more homes.
Cindy, a breast cancer patient from Streaky Bay who lives over 700 kilometres away from treatment in Adelaide, experienced the phenomenal impact of Under Our Roof.
“You don’t know you need it until you need it,” Cindy said. “To stay somewhere like this is life-changing for someone like me.”
More recently, The Hospital Research Foundation Group has expanded its services to support the community directly. It now offers allied health services, including nurses, occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, counsellors and more.
The Group also runs the Brain x Body Fitness Studio in Woodville, helping clients improve their mental and physical health while managing chronic conditions.
These are only six out of hundreds of achievements across its 60 years and none of these initiatives would have been possible without the community's support. The Hospital Research Foundation Group relies solely on donations, fundraising and ticket proceeds from the Home Lottery to continue their vital work.
Congratulations on 60 of the best! You’ve changed more lives than we’ll ever truly know.

Why choosing the right conveyancer matters. And that person is Maryanne Noon.
Buying or selling a property is one of life’s biggest financial decisions. It’s exciting, yes, but it can also be overwhelming with legal complexities, endless paperwork and financial pressures. That’s where a conveyancer comes in. They handle the legal transfer of property, ensuring everything’s above board, protecting you from nasty surprises and ensuring the process runs smoothly.
However, not all conveyancers are created equal. If they’re not thorough, you could find yourself dealing with delays, contract errors, failed transactions, or even boundary disputes long after you move in.
Maryanne Noon, Founder of Conveyancing by Noon, understands this all too well, because sadly, she’s
been there. When she bought her own home, she felt completely alone, drowning in legal jargon and unanswered questions. That experience inspired her to create a business built on integrity, attention to detail and most importantly, genuine care for her clients.
Maryanne brings warmth and approachability to the conveyancing process. No question is too big or small — she’s there to make sure you understand every step of the process. But don’t mistake her kindness for weakness.
“I’m a fighter and I am fearless,’’ she says. She tackles everything with a meticulous eye and a determination to protect her clients’ best interests. “I take my duty of care very seriously.”
A good conveyancer does more than just process paperwork. They can also help you understand property ownership structures and the sneaky clauses that find their way into contracts, which can be crucial in protecting your assets.
According to Maryanne, a common mistake people make is waiting until they’ve signed a contract to find a conveyancer. “Ideally, you should appoint one as soon as you start looking to buy or sell. The opportunity to negotiate the contract ends as soon as the cooling-off period ends — a matter that occurs too often and at the detriment to the buyer in particular. You don’t want to be scrambling to find someone you trust,” she explains.
At Conveyancing by Noon, Maryanne leaves no stone unturned, ensuring your property transaction is seamless and stress-free. If you’re buying or selling, make sure you have the right person in your corner because, beyond the bricks and mortar, the legal details matter.

More than a pharmacy, Star Discount Chemist is a passionate team of local people making a real difference.
Walking into a Star Discount Chemist isn’t just about picking up your healthcare essentials — it’s about feeling welcomed, valued and cared for by the incredible team that makes it all happen.
From expert pharmacists to friendly retail staff, every single team member brings something special to the table. So, let’s take a moment to shine a spotlight on the superstars who make it the community’s go-to pharmacy!
Julie has been a Dispensary Technician at Star Discount Chemist Hollywood for nine and a half years and she’s a proud member of what she calls
the ‘Hollywood family’. “We have a great culture here — we’re not just workmates, we’re family.”
She is loved and adored in her community, which shows by winning the 2024 Staff Support Award! But her impact doesn’t stop there. “I’m known as the workplace ‘mama’ and ‘Queen B’ (barista) because of the countless cups of tea and coffee I make daily.” On top of that, she speaks Arabic, making her an invaluable interpreter for the community members who speak the language.
Since 2022, Shuyuan has been a pharmacist at Star Discount Chemist Prospect and she wouldn’t have it any other way. “The Prospect community is by far the best I have worked with. Everyone is so friendly, kindhearted and happy to see me for a chat,” she says.
“It feels so rewarding and I love it here!”
For Shuyuan, her role is so much bigger than being a pharmacist — it’s also about being a trusted advisor.
“I have the direct ability to impact patients’ health and wellbeing by providing medication advice. It’s something I truly value.”
Richard’s passion for healthcare started when he was young. “I always admired people in the industry because my family members were constantly sick. I wanted to help people the way healthcare professionals helped my loved ones,” he says.
Building strong relationships is at the core of what he loves about his role. “I’ve built relationships with people from different backgrounds and I’ve learned so much from their experiences,” he shares. “It’s exceptionally rewarding when I see customers’ health improve, knowing that our advice made a meaningful impact.”
“IT’S EXCEPTIONALLY REWARDING WHEN I SEE CUSTOMERS’ HEALTH IMPROVE, KNOWING THAT OUR ADVICE MADE A MEANINGFUL IMPACT.”
With over 30 years in retail management, Julie has seen it all — but her passion for her role is as strong as ever. “I love the culture here. There’s great leadership, clear goals and an open-door policy that makes sharing ideas easy,” she says.
Julie thrives on building her team and watching them grow. “I love training my team and seeing their happiness when they achieve their goals.” But it’s not just about her colleagues; Julie has built lasting relationships with her customers, too! She takes pride in helping them find what they need, making sure they enjoy their shopping experience. “We build personal connections and long-lasting relationships.”
At Star Discount Chemist, it’s not just about medicine and retail — it’s also about the people who make genuine connections with the community. These superstars deserve a round of applause!

If you love exploring our state, then hello SA is your new bestie!
Every Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel Nine, Lauren De Cesare, Tom Rehn and I shine a spotlight on the best of South Australia. From jaw-dropping holiday destinations to hidden foodie gems, our show brings you the stories, people and places that make SA unforgettable.
And when it comes to making our city shine (literally), Illuminate Adelaide CoFounder and Creative Director Rachael Azzopardi is the mastermind behind the lights, the creativity and the spark(le).
Over a coffee at cafe Part Time Lover, we chatted about how she turns our winter nights into a wonderland of art, innovation and culture each year.
From dazzling light shows to cuttingedge pop-up events, Rachael and her Co-Founder Lee Cumberlidge are
putting Adelaide on the map in the most spectacular way possible!
Here’s what she had to say about her journey, her future plans and why Illuminate Adelaide is so freaking cool…
Tom: Illuminate Adelaide is a gamechanger for the city — what inspired you and Lee to create it?
“The inspiration stemmed from a desire to bring something bold and new to Adelaide in winter. Lee and I both recognised that Adelaide, with its vibrant creative scene, had the potential to transform into a hub for cuttingedge, large-scale light and projection installations. We wanted to create a major event that didn’t just showcase art and creativity, but allowed people
to experience the city in a completely different way, through art, light, technology and music. It’s about sparking curiosity, joy and a sense of wonder in the heart of the city, while also pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of public art experiences.”
Hayley: When you were a kid, did you ever imagine you’d one day light up an entire city?
“No way, I was too busy dreaming of becoming a member of the Johnny Young Talent Time Team!”
Lauren: What’s your favourite part about bringing Illuminate Adelaide to life every year?
“Seeing the creative vision come to fruition. There's something special about transforming abstract ideas and concepts into tangible experiences that captivate and inspire. Each year, there's the chance to elevate it in new ways, whether it’s through storytelling or the impact it has on the community.”
Hayley: Adelaide has a rich art scene — how do you see Illuminate Adelaide contributing to it?
“We hope that Illuminate enhances Adelaide's reputation as a hub for
creative expression, fostering community engagement through accessible, largescale art experiences.
The festival promotes public art and cultural tourism, positioning Adelaide as a progressive, forward-thinking city in terms of both art and technology. It’s a celebration of the intersection between creativity and innovation, which helps attract talent, drive tourism and support local businesses, all while enriching Adelaide’s cultural identity.”
Lauren: What’s your vision for the future of Illuminate Adelaide? Are there any dream projects you’d love to tackle?
“There are so many projects and artists we want to work with that we have on our list. To name one is impossible.
“THERE’S SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT TRANSFORMING ABSTRACT IDEAS AND CONCEPTS INTO TANGIBLE EXPERIENCES THAT CAPTIVATE AND INSPIRE.”
My vision for the future would build on the momentum, with a focus on making the event more immersive, interactive and community-driven, while also broadening its global reach and impact.”
As you can see, Rachael is a legend! Now, keep your eyes open for all the frivolities of this year’s Illuminate Adelaide — it’s going to be fabulous!

Scotch College’s Signature Learning Framework provides a solid foundation for student progression from year to year.
It’s human nature to plan for the future. But as the old saying goes, ‘Tomorrow never comes’. It’s more important for students to be present each day, to ensure they’re equipped for today’s challenges before they even attempt tomorrow’s.
Scotch College’s Signature Learning Framework is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate approach to their school education. It covers
academic, social and emotional progress, personal growth, community involvement and academic learning throughout the school year.
“It’s age and stage-focused and appropriate for the year they’re in,” says Ieva Hampson, Scotch College Head of Mitcham Campus.
The Prep semester sets the foundations for future learning, as students are encouraged to explore and ask questions about the world around them.
Students begin to understand their own thinking and learning styles, with a specific focus on creativity and curiosity.
As students form strong friendships and learn the importance of belonging and feeling valued, they’re helped to understand themselves within the context of the classroom and the broader school community. “At this age, children often want to be first at everything and be good at things. But it’s nice to realise we’re all good at different things,” says Ieva.
Students are encouraged to explore new ideas, develop independence and take more responsibility for their learning. “At this age, children seek greater independence and are offered scaffolded experiences to respond to this need,” says Teaching and Learning Leader Sarah Lane.
This stage helps students build a sense of purpose within an inclusive environment. “It’s about understanding others and ourselves through knowledge of diversity and celebrating our differences,” says Sarah.
Students are encouraged to build the courage to face difficulties and learn from their experiences, promoting personal growth and perseverance.
In Year 5, students participate in The Festival of Ideas, which is a Shark Tankstyle program with a small pool of seed funds for ideas that students can action.
There’s also a strong focus on sustainability in Year 5. “Students engage in a community project where they participate in the revegetation of the Brownhilll Creek, documenting the ecological changes,” says Sarah.
This final stage focuses on developing leadership and collaboration skills as students prepare to transition into Middle School. “They experience opportunities to develop skills to effectively use their voices and identify the appropriate channels to implement their initiatives,” says Sarah.
“We also have a research partnership with Melbourne University that measures how our students are developing in the competencies of agency in learning, ethics and quality thinking,” says Ieva. As students leave Year 6, they’re given
a certificate from Scotch College and Melbourne University to outline how their skills stack up in the real world.
Ready for today… and tomorrow! “We’ve used this learning framework successfully for the last eight years,” says Ieva when discussing the level of student engagement with Scotch College’s Signature Learning Experiences. It’s not just about preparation for the future, but the importance of preparation for today.

AGE AND STAGE-FOCUSED AND APPROPRIATE FOR THE YEAR THEY’RE IN.”
WORDS Carrie Raymond
No matter where you’re starting from, small steps can lead to big changes.
Despite progress over the years, women still face greater financial challenges than men. On average, women earn 21.8 percent less than men for the same hours*, leading to lower superannuation balances at retirement. Many also take time off work to raise children, impacting longterm savings and financial security in the event of a relationship breakdown. However, by taking proactive steps such as seeking advice, budgeting, protecting assets and planning for retirement, you can build financial security and independence. Credit Union SA is committed to supporting you every step of the way, helping you make informed decisions for a brighter financial future.
Here are some of Credit Union SA’s tips to protect your money and build financial confidence...
No one enters a relationship expecting it to end, but planning ahead can safeguard your finances. Consider discussing how you will manage your income and expenses, whether you’ll have separate or joint bank accounts (or both), and how you’ll divide assets if the relationship ends. Open conversations early on can prevent stress later.
A joint account can simplify shared expenses, but maintaining a personal account ensures financial independence. Having access to your own money provides security, especially if circumstances change.
A pre-nuptial or binding financial agreement outlines how assets will be divided if a relationship ends, preventing disputes and ensuring fairness. If you’re considering this option, seek legal and financial advice.
Consulting a financial adviser or lawyer can provide guidance tailored to your situation. While trusted friends and family can offer perspectives, professional advice ensures you make informed decisions.
Money conversations don’t have to be awkward — they can be empowering.
Talking with a mentor, a trusted friend, or a financial service provider such as Credit Union SA can build confidence and motivation. Many women face similar challenges and learning from others’ experiences can be invaluable.
There are plenty of free resources available to help women take control of their finances. Some great places to start include the Moneysmart website for budgeting and investment guides. There are also plenty of books, podcasts and online courses that break down financial topics in an easy-to-understand way.
Even minor changes can have a significant impact over time. Start by setting up a budget to track your spending and creating a small emergency fund. Taking the time to learn about superannuation and investing will also benefit your long-term financial knowledge.
You don’t need to be an expert to make smart decisions with your money. With the right support, you can plan for the future, protect your assets and work towards financial independence.
Credit Union SA is here to help you take control and create a secure future, one step at a time.

THEY DIDN’T JUST SURVIVE — THEY THRIVED!
In 2024, Vili’s Family Bakery faced challenges that could’ve brought the business to its knees.
If you’d told the team at Vili’s they were about to face one of the toughest times in their 57-year history, they probably would’ve looked at you like you were a doughnut! But last year, a major cyber attack completely wiped out their systems, invoicing capabilities and years of data.
With a team of 300 dedicated South Australians, 70 of whom have been with Vili’s for over 15 years, they refused to let this setback bring them down. Instead, they rolled up their sleeves, leant on each other and rebuilt.
Through sheer resilience and teamwork, they didn’t just survive — they thrived!
Vili’s has always been a story of perseverance. It started with Vili Milisits’ father, who escaped the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and arrived in Adelaide with nothing but an old suitcase tied together with a belt. At just 14, Vili went to work in a local bakery to help support his family.
Through hard work and a passion for food, he and his wife, Rosemary, built what would become one of South Australia’s most iconic businesses. Today, Vili’s Family Bakery supplies not just Australia, but 24 countries around the world!
The cyber attack could’ve been the breaking point for Vili’s, but thanks to their incredible staff and long-standing relationships with partners, the business kept going. Their devoted team worked tirelessly to ensure customers and retailers continued to receive the quality products they rely on.
And then, something remarkable happened. 2024 didn’t just become a year of recovery — it became one of their most exciting years yet. Securing a contract with Adelaide Oval wasn’t a win; it was the fulfilment of Vili’s lifelong dream!
At the heart of Vili’s is a commitment to giving back. In 2024, they continued their long-standing support of organisations like Variety SA, Novita and the Tinju Foundation. Whether sponsoring events or simply bringing a smile to a child’s face, they upheld their values.
2024 was certainly a challenging year for Vili’s Family Bakery — but it was also a defining one. The business faced tremendous hurdles but emerged stronger than ever, proving that resilience, teamwork and passion can turn even the toughest times into moments of triumph.
Moving forward, Vili’s remains committed to honouring Vili Milisits’ legacy — staying true to their promise of being the ‘pioneers of quality’.
After all, life is what you bake it!

• Inducted into the South Australian Premier’s Food and Beverage Hall of Fame
• Foodland South Australian Supplier of the Year 2024
• Drakes Bakery Supplier of the Year 2024
• Variety International Corporate Award 2024
And while rebuilding, they also secured and retained some of the biggest contracts in their history:
• National and retail contracts with Caltex, 7-Eleven and AMPM South Australia
• Aviation partnerships with Jetstar In-Flight and Qantas Premium Lounges
• Sporting and entertainment venues, including partnerships at Adelaide Oval, the Adelaide 500 Supercars event and every major sporting stadium in the state

Taking over Nature’s Providore in August 2024 wasn’t just a business decision for Aniqa Komal — it was a leap of passion. An ode to her huge heart and infectious spirit, her aim was to create a happy and inviting place where visitors young and old could
gather to eat delicious food, drink great coffee and feel completely welcomed in the process. Original staff members continue to run the floor with a smile and head chef of nine years, Barb, is still doing what she does best in the kitchen. And yes, folks, her famous scrambled eggs remain on the menu!
Aniqa’s philosophy is simple: ‘great food starts with great ingredients’. Whether you love hearty breakfasts, vibrant salads, or indulgent treats, only the highest quality produce will make it to your plate.
Aniqa takes pride in offering an affordable menu that suits all dietary needs, sourcing the freshest produce and buying locally whenever possible. “It’s so important that small businesses support one another,” she explains. Given that Hayley and Lauren created Adelady over banana bread and
watermelon juice at Nature’s Providore all those years ago, Aniqa’s commitment to supporting local feels especially fitting!
What really sets Nature’s Providore apart is its soul — the people. Aniqa has infused the space with her big personality and even bigger heart, fostering a sense of belonging between the staff and the patrons that make everyone feel like family. “People walk in for the great food, but it’s the warmth and welcoming atmosphere that keeps our customers coming back,” expresses Aniqa.
Visit Nature’s Providore for the scrumptious eats, stay for the vibes and leave feeling like you’ve found your home away from home.

There’s something extra special about a country pub, don’t you think?

relaxed, welcoming setting. The menu caters for every palate, from juicy steaks and schnitzels to crispy duck spring rolls and fresh house-made pizzas. There’s even a dedicated plant-based selection, making it a great choice for vegetarians and anyone after a lighter option. Families will love the kid-friendly menu, which comes with a drink and ice cream while sports fans can catch all the action on seven big-screen TVs. In a hurry? Their delicious takeaway menu is perfect for a quick feed. And with a carefully curated wine list that goes beyond the usual pub selection, the POW is an easy choice for a great meal and a quality drop.

Ashton Valley Fresh juice isn’t just delicious — it’s a product with purpose.
The Ceravolo family has been producing incredible fruit for 68 years. Ashton Valley Fresh is their shining example of what a company can become when it’s dedicated to proving that farming can be both sustainable and high quality.
As a fourth-generation family business, the Ceravolos have always viewed farming as more than just a profession — it’s their responsibility. Their mission is clear: produce premium fruit, care for the planet and ensure the longevity of their orchards. And it’s this mission that led them to create Ashton Valley Fresh, a juice brand with sustainability at every step.
Ashton Valley Fresh is all about zero waste along the important journey from their orchard to your fridge. They use the entire apple crop, pressing the
flavourful fruit into premium juice while making sure that nothing goes to waste. The leftover skin, seeds and pulp are repurposed as food for local livestock and used to create even more innovative products, like their apple cider vinegar.
With the help of other local, independent growers, Ashton Valley Fresh’s juice is pressed right in the Adelaide Hills. There’s no added sugar, concentrates, or artificial ingredients — just pure orchard-grown goodness in every sip.
Look out for Ashton Valley Fresh on the shelves next time you shop. It’s juice that tastes good, feels good and does good, because sustainability shouldn’t be a buzzword… it should be bottled!
We’ve always been big fans of the Ceravolo family, yet somehow, we’re even bigger fans of their amazing juice range! Here are our favourite ways to enjoy them…
Lemon Squish Sparkling Juice: Mix with Prosecco and limoncello for a refreshing lemon spritz.
Hills Harvest Mango with Apple Juice: Pour into ice block trays and freeze for a treat the kids will go crazy for!
Cloudy Apple Juice: Drink it straight out of the bottle because this stuff is (cloudy) liquid gold!

Set your GPS for Myponga and get ready to be shaken, stirred and totally floored.
The brand-new Fleurieu Gin Distillery and Cellar Door has to-die-for views and a fun, family-friendly vibe, making it the perfect spot to sip, swirl and bask in the magic of SA’s iconic Fleurieu Peninsula.
What started as a ‘why not?’ moment during COVID, has turned into an awardwinning gin empire! Shane Magor woke up one morning (after a few too many G&Ts) and thought, “I can make that!”
So, like any successful midlife crisis… he backed himself and went all in!
“We started distilling in a tiny home set-up, passing gin over the fence to our neighbours. They kept asking for more and before we knew it, people were flocking to Myponga for a taste of Fleurieu Gin!”
Now, Shane has bottled up the spirit of Myponga in a stunning new distillery that blends modern design with rustic charm. Picture this… a light-filled tasting room with soaring ceilings and panoramic views of Myponga’s rolling hills. “It’s the best view on the Fleurieu, hands down!”
Every bottle of Fleurieu Gin captures the flavours of SA, using locally-sourced botanicals to create gins that dance on your palate.
“Our rosemary is from Anzac Cove in Gallipoli and all our fruits come from local growers — so every sip is an ode to South Australia,” says Shane.
You’ll get to sample their signature gins, including the crowd-favourite Aussie Gold Australian Dry Gin and the zesty Fleurieu Sunset, which is bursting with strawberries and blackberries from Harvest the Fleurieu at Mt Compass. And don’t even get us started on the cocktails… from a classic G&T to mindblowing mixology masterpieces, the drinks menu is yummo!
Fleurieu Gin isn’t just for gin lovers, it’s a destination in its own right!
Not into gin? No worries! They’ve got local wines, craft beers and mocktails, plus charcuterie boards packed with SA goodies and gourmet pizzas to keep you satisfied. And the littlies will love it, too!
“We’ve got your kids sorted with bocce, minigolf and quoits, and even
a golf driving range, plus loads of grass for them to run wild,” says Shane.
Fleurieu Gin is a real family affair, with Shane’s son returning from his time in Sydney with the Sydney Swans in the AFL, to join his dad as manager of the new distillery and he’s extra excited to throw some amazing events there in 2025!
Whether you’re celebrating a special event for up to 200 people (because why not?) they’ve got you covered!
The Fleurieu Peninsula has always been a top-notch holiday destination, but this gorgeous new distillery has just made Myponga the ultimate gin lover’s paradise. So raise your glass, toast to local family-owned businesses and say cheers to Fleurieu Gin.
Well played, Shaneo!
@fleurieugin fleurieugin.com.au 464 Forktree Road, Myponga
When Shane asked me to create three custom paintings for their new distillery, I nearly fell off my chair with excitement! Their brand colours — coastal blues, rich earthy greens and hot pink sunset vibes — are right up my alley. So, I went all out on three GIANT canvases.
Now, to see my artwork surrounded by people laughing, sipping and loving the space is the ultimate compliment!

Women are shaking up Australia’s wine industry…
And Corrina Wright is one boss lady leading the charge! Growing up in McLaren Vale on a vineyard with mixed farming and a dad who worked in the industry, Corrina practically had grape juice running through her veins. Despite wanting to escape and see the world, she quickly realised the grass wasn’t greener — it was just different.
Lucky for us, that realisation brought her home. Initially, the family sold fruit to other wineries, but Corrina had other plans to start her family’s very own wine label and Oliver’s Taranga was born.
Wine at Oliver’s Taranga is a team effort and it’s all in the family. Corrina works alongside her two cousins, Brioni and Sam, plus her uncle Don still runs the vineyard.
Of course, her beautiful bulldog Marj is also there for every important meeting!
The family has nailed the cellar door, which is steeped in history. The original building from the 1850s was lovingly renovated in 2007 and expanded again in 2021. It’s the perfect place to soak in McLaren Vale’s beauty, with a gorgeous deck that makes you want to stay forever.
Corrina and the team made sure that Oliver’s Taranga offers unforgettable wine experiences. You can hop on Ollie the Golf Cart for a vineyard tour, where you’ll learn how grapes grow and taste them straight from the vine. Feeling fancy? Take ‘Ascend’, a three-region experience where you start at Oliver’s, hop in a chopper to Goldings in the Adelaide Hills to enjoy lunch and then fly to Kimbolton Wines in Langhorne Creek for a cheese and wine pairing. It’s next-level wine tourism; even better, supporting female-owned wineries!
Oh and don’t miss their Porchetta Parties! Once a month, Chef Todd Steele cooks up a whole pig on a spit.
When paired with music and Taranga wines, it’s a feast for all the senses.
Corrina isn’t just a winemaker and party thrower, though, she’s a community builder. Women represent just 16 percent of Australian winemakers, but Corrina is helping change that with the Australian Women in Wine group, soon celebrating its 10th anniversary. They shine a light on women in the industry, raise awareness and support education, and even arrange awards and symposiums to recognise their hard work.
With Corrina and the family at the helm of Oliver’s Taranga, the future of women in wine looks bright — and delicious. So grab a glass, head to the cellar door and raise a toast to the boss lady of McLaren Vale!

If wine springs to mind when you think of Clare, you’ve got another thing coming!
Located in the picturesque Clare Valley at The Curly Goose boutique event venue, Sawmill Gin offers a unique experience for gin lovers and foodies alike. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Sophie and David Whitehead, this distillery is all about bringing a premium gin experience to one of South Australia’s most beautiful wine regions.
Distiller David has been making waves in the gin world since they opened three years ago. They were the only distillery in Clare and now their gin is found in many of the region’s best restaurants.
“We started just doing a day here and there, then two days a week, then three… now we’re an established operator here in Clare,” David says. “It’s great to give people a different taste of Clare — it’s not all wine!”
And taste they do! Sawmill Gin has won multiple awards locally at Tasting Australia, the Melbourne Royal Spirits Competition and the Sydney Royal Spirits Competition, and internationally at the London Spirits Competition, cementing its place as a premium gin distiller.
THEIR DISTILLERY OFFERS A TWIST ON THE USUAL CLARE VALLEY WINE EXPERIENCE.
“We really like to honour the traditional methods using the classic London dry techniques, with a little barrel aging to give extra flavour,” says David. The result is a gin that’s not trying to be flashy or trendy — just good old-fashioned quality.
Sample some of the finest gin at their distillery while overlooking the stunning view of the valley’s vines. Every weekend, Chef Sophie serves up delicious platters with local ingredients like homemade potstickers and freshly baked bread. The food is right up there with fine-dining quality!
And it’s a dog-friendly venue, so bring your furry friends along. You might even meet the couple’s own pooches, Henry and Millie. Try not to get starstruck when you realise Henry has a gold medal winning gin named after him: Mr Wriggles.
Put down the vino and give your tastebuds something new to try on your next trip to Clare. Sawmill Gin is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 4pm. @sawmill_gin
DON’T FORGET THE GOOSE!
This couple wears many hats! The Curly Goose isn’t just the home of Sawmill Gin — it’s also a boutique event space and accommodation offering. Originally a winery, David and Sophie didn’t want that beauty to go to waste. So now, they offer events, catering and on-site accommodation for couples with The Nest. They really do it all!

Some people drink coffee, others live it. Willow Bend’s Ben Pankhurst is definitely among the latter!
After years of working in a coffee shop, Ben developed a deep appreciation for what makes a truly great brew. So, in a natural progression, he began roasting his own blends from a small shop in Croydon. His goal? To create coffee that was smooth enough to drink black but bold enough to taste through milk.
Originally, Willow Bend was meant to be a wholesale coffee bean business — until the aroma of freshly roasted beans combined with Ben’s generous spirit started luring locals inside. If someone popped in, curious about what he was up to, he’d whip them up a cup at no charge. Before long, word spread, more people showed up and soon enough, the Willow Bend Coffee shop was born.
Fast forward to today, Willow Bend has moved just down the street to premises large enough to accommodate its evergrowing crowd of coffee aficionados.
The new space is a nod to Ben’s heritage, blending a 1970s Italian-New York aesthetic with moody dark woods, leather furnishings and framed photos of his grandparents’ migration journey. It’s stylish yet inviting and effortlessly cool.
Meanwhile, the original location remains the heart of Willow Bend’s roasting and wholesaling operations, with their signature smooth blends shipped to businesses and loyal customers across the state.
But what truly sets Willow Bend apart is the good old-fashioned hospitality that greets you as soon as you step inside. For Ben, great coffee is only half the experience — customer service is just as important. He and his team make every visitor feel like a regular, whether it’s their first or fiftieth visit. “When I hire, I look for people who are naturally friendly and outgoing because genuine hospitality can’t be faked,” Ben explains.
At Willow Bend, every coffee is brewed with passion and served with a smile. You might even say there’s a whole ‘latte’ love in every cup!

Medical hair loss is very real and affects women all over the world.
You might not know that it impacts young girls and women of all ages. No matter how old or young, hair loss has life-altering consequences for those suffering from it.
The reasons are varied, but the result is the same — often completely stripping women and girls of their confidence. Common causes include female pattern baldness, natural hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, the aftereffects of burns and surgery, menopause, alopecia and the unforgiving chemotherapy used to treat cancer. Mental health disorders can also lead to Trichotillomania, which is where hair is lost due to repeated pulling of hair from the scalp.
Age is no barrier, as complex underlying issues can cause hair loss in young girls, just as easily as a side effect during the often-turbulent journey of womanhood, such as coming off the contraceptive pill and day-to-day stress. No matter the cause, there is a solution.
Beverly May Hair is a women’s-only non-surgical hair replacement salon in Prospect. Danielle Mahony and her staff are highly trained and have significant experience as hair replacement specialists — some even gaining invaluable insights during their own hair loss journeys. For over 12 years, Beverly May Hair has helped Adelaide women restore their confidence and live life on their terms.
Founder Beverly Waters used her qualifications and experience as a hairdresser to launch her own hair extension business in 2006. She specialised in making small hairpieces during the rising trend of women wanting to change the length and thickness of their hair for special occasions.
While providing this popular service, Beverly noticed a genuine need for more permanent hair replacement solutions, rather than those just wanting to change it from time to time. She also saw the need for a more natural look to traditional hair extensions, which tended to sit on the top of the existing hair rather than blending in. She and her then recently graduated hairdressing apprentice, Danielle, travelled to San Diego in the US to learn all about invisible hair grafting and other more natural-looking nonsurgical hair solutions for women.
Danielle knew early that she had found her calling and after working in the business for seven years, purchased it when Beverly retired in 2022. “I just loved every minute of seeing those transformations,” she says. “The cutting and styling are equally important and very personal,” says Danielle.
“Hairdressing is rewarding, but it’s far more rewarding when you hear someone say, ‘This has been life-changing for me.’ You can’t beat that feeling!” she continues. “Getting your hair or nails done makes you feel good, so imagine restoring someone’s confidence with a more long-term hair solution!”
“We have great relationships with lots of hospitals and dermatologists around Adelaide,” says Danielle. Beverly May Hair works closely with Burnside Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital, St Andrews, Royal Adelaide Hospital, Dermatology SA, Skin Plus Dermatology and Smart Dermatology. They also work with a number of charities that accept hair donations, such as AAAF’s Wigs for Kids and Variety Hair with Heart.
Your hair loss replacement journey starts with a private consultation in their Prospect salon, where they’ll get to know you and your circumstances to find the right hair loss solution for you. Or, if you prefer, they also offer virtual consultations, which are popular with their customers who travel regularly or live interstate or overseas.
Danielle and her team have seen it all and would love to help you regain your confidence. You’re in safe, creative and caring hands at Beverly May Hair.

Alexandra Lingerie is celebrating a decade of specialist bra fittings, beautiful lingerie and helping women feel confident in their own skin, no matter their size.
For 10 years, Adelaide women have flocked to Alexandra Lingerie, not just looking for bras, but the RIGHT bras! Their inclusive range, expert knowledge and warm approach have made it a trusted name in lingerie. And what better way to mark this incredible milestone than by ‘hooking you up’ with some pointers? You might have 99 problems, but they’ll make sure a bra ain’t one!
Here are Owner Alexandra Vaissières’ top ten tips for the perfect fit:
“THE RIGHT BRA IS THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE, CONFIDENT AND FABULOUS!”
“If you haven’t been professionally fitted, chances are you’re wearing the wrong size — 80 percent of women are! If your straps keep slipping, your cups gape, or your band rides up at the back, it’s time to come and see us.”
“A well-fitted bra should feel firm, with the band providing 90 percent of the support and the straps just 10 percent. Light pressure marks are normal, but deep indentations or chafing usually mean your bra is too loose, rather than too tight.”
3. Don’t fear the nipple!
“Nipples are completely normal, but if you prefer extra coverage, a moulded bra isn’t your only option. Silicone nipple covers (aka ‘headlight dimmers’) offer full disguise, while lace and embroidery can provide a more subtle camouflage.”
4. Know your lingerie lingo
“Padded and moulded aren’t the same thing. Soft-cup and non-wired are also different. And Double D is far from the biggest size available! Don’t worry; your fitter will guide you through all the lingerie lingo.”
5. Your breasts will change — embrace it!
“Bodies change and so do breasts. That’s why a fitting every 10–12 months is key to ensuring your bras keep up with your shape. A well-fitted bra will lift, support and help you feel fabulous at every stage of life.”
6. Underwires should be comfy (yes, really!)
“If your underwire is digging in or sitting on your breast tissue, it’s not the right fit. A properly fitted bra has the underwire sitting behind your breast tissue, providing the necessary support without poking or pinching.”
7. Foundations first
“There’s nothing worse than falling in love with the perfect outfit, only to realise you don’t have a bra to wear with it. Build your lingerie wardrobe first and dressing will be a whole lot easier.”
8. Feeling hot, hot, hot?
“Our bodies fluctuate with the weather. When we’re warm, we expand, so a snug bra might feel extra firm on a hot day. Plan your fitting for a cooler day, but don’t worry, Alexandra Lingerie keeps the boutique toasty warm in winter!”
9. Invest in your breasts
“A bra is something you wear every single day, so it’s worth investing in quality. Ideally, rotate between three bras to extend their lifespan and wherever possible, hand wash for longevity.”
10. YOU are the boss of your boobs!
“At Alexandra Lingerie, our goal is to empower you with knowledge and expert fittings so you can make the best choice for YOU. The right bra is the one that makes you feel comfortable, confident and fabulous!”
You might walk into Alexandra Lingerie feeling a little unsure, but you'll walk out supported and ready to take on the
world — one perfectly fitted bra at a time. Happy 10th birthday, Alexandra Lingerie. We know the ‘breast’ is yet to come!

We simply love some ‘me time’, especially when it comes to our nails!
You won’t see an Adelady without her nails done, because we just love the feeling and relaxation that comes along with a classic mani-pedi! The massages in a manicure, the exfoliation in a pedicure and knowing that our nails are being properly looked after during every visit.
The Nail Bar Beauty & Co. team wants you to walk out of the salon looking good — but what’s even more important
to them is that you feel good. From in-salon appointments, to products for at-home nail care, we know we’re in the best hands.
Founder Saland Nguyen has shared some advice on how to look and feel like your best self when it comes to your nails. Sit back and grab a cuppa (or a champers!) and take notes from the nail expert herself. Over to you, Saland…
Why is professional nail care so important?
“At-home nail care is essential, but it’s easy to overlook small details that impact long-term nail health. Regular salon visits provide expert assessments, ensuring potential issues such as discolouration, ingrown nails and splitting nails (to name a few) are addressed before they become serious. Professional care helps maintain nail strength, prevent damage and promote overall health in a way that athome treatments often can’t achieve.”
What are the biggest mistakes people make when caring for their nails at home and how can they improve their routine?
“The most common mistakes include over-filing, selecting the wrong nail shape for their natural structure and neglecting hydration. A simple yet effective routine, such as regular application of cuticle oil, a quality hand cream and gentle filing can make a significant difference in maintaining strong, healthy nails.”
What's your advice for those who struggle with weak or brittle nails?
“Nail health starts from within. Weak nails often indicate nutritional deficiencies, so maintaining a balanced diet, rich in essential vitamins and minerals, is crucial.
Because nails don’t regenerate once they grow out, strengthening them takes time. In the meantime, protective coatings such as builder gel can help reinforce the nails, providing additional strength and support as they grow.”
Why do you think regular salon appointments are important and how can they help maintain long-lasting, flawless nails?
“Consistent salon visits allow technicians to detect early signs of lifting, cracks, or weakness before they lead to more significant damage. Routine maintenance requires less filing, reducing stress on the nails and ensuring they remain strong and healthy. Preventative care is always more efficient and cost-effective than waiting for repairs or replacements.”
The Nail Bar Beauty & Co.’s own products are a big hit! Can you tell us what makes them special and how they benefit your clients’ nails?
“Our products are developed based on the real needs of our clients. With over 13,000 clients and 40,000 appointments annually,
we understand what clients are looking for — fast-absorbing, non-greasy cuticle oil, deeply hydrating yet non-sticky body lotion, a rich hand cream and a mud mask that moisturises without cracking. Every product is carefully formulated to provide high-performance results while enhancing the overall self-care experience.”
Well, there you have it. All that’s left to do is book an appointment at The Nail Bar to enjoy some pamper time!

The ultimate bedroom makeover with Pillow Talk.
Have you ever dreamt of sinking into a bed so stylish and inviting that it looks like it’s straight out of a glossy magazine? Well, dream no more! From plush layers and mood-boosting colours to textures just begging to be touched, Pillow Talk has all the secrets to creating your dreamy retreat. And with their winter collection coming in hot, there’s no better time to snuggle up in style! Over to Nikkie Hoskins, Stylist and Studio Lead for Pillow Talk, to share her expert tips on transforming your bedroom from drab to fab...
1. Master the art of layering
“Start with the basics and build upwards. Begin with soft, breathable sheets in calming tones as your foundation. Then, layer on textures that invite both warmth and indulgence — think sumptuous velvets or cosy knits. Top it all off with a heavier quilt or comforter in deep jewel tones like dark teal for richness. For contrast, add a
luminous throw in frosted pastel hues to echo the dreamlike glow.”
2. Create a visual symphony with colour
“Mix timeless jewel tones with lighter, radiant accents inspired by flowing dye effects. A moody navy duvet can make a dramatic statement, while decorative cushions in coastal greens and soft gradients add movement and light to the set-up. Tie the palette together by echoing hints of your bedding hues in nearby decor, such as candles or bedside vases.”
3. Use texture to tell a story
“Layering isn’t just about colour — it’s also about textures. Choose items that feel luxurious, like velvet cushions with flowing rhythmic patterns or a knit throw with intricate detailing. Rich textures captivate the eye and add depth, making your bedroom a sensory retreat.”
4. Play with patterns inspired by nature
“Pillow Talk’s winter collection features rhythmic patterns that evoke the calming tides of the ocean. Incorporate these designs through accessories like pillow covers or a statement bed runner. These details nod to escapism and bring grounded, nature-inspired sophistication to your space.”
5. Anchor with bold and beautiful accessories
“Style is as much about the details as the big pieces. Add a touch of brilliance with special photo frames nearby or a ceramic vase in frosted hues on your bedside table. These accessories tie into the collection’s themes of light and depth while creating focal points that make your space uniquely yours.”
6. Cultivate a warm and inviting atmosphere
“Lighting plays a critical role in setting the mood. Opt for warm-toned lamps or pendant lights that echo the gentle luminescence of the collection’s pastels. Add softly-scented candles to enhance the feeling of comfort and calm. This combination ensures your bedroom feels as inviting as it looks.”
7. Make it personal but always on-trend
“Want to showcase your personality? Add a framed print or a curated stack of books on side tables that reflect your tastes. Pair these personal touches with on-trend accessories like jewel-toned throws or frosted glass pieces to stay in sync with the season. It’s the subtle interplay of individuality and design that creates a truly special space.”
Pillow Talk has everything you need to sleep in style. Get creative, get comfy and wake up every day to a space you love!

Taking my family shopping is like leading an expedition through the wild…
It has excitement, unexpected detours and the obligatory need for emergency snacks. The Myer Centre Adelaide has all of this in a glorious, multi-level wonderland where parents can actually get things done while the kids will think they’re on the greatest adventure of their lives!
Level 1 and 2 in Myer are a shoppinglover’s happy place. You can browse and if you’re like me, conveniently lose your family between rack after rack of all the big brand clothing labels. From Kenji, Blaq and American Eagle, to Country Road, Sass & Bide and Acler, there’s no shortage of style for the whole family.
Alright, if you have kids at the age where looking cool and using slang like ‘skibadee’ is a full-time job, then Da Klinic might just be the Holy Grail of cool. Sneakers, skate gear and all things streetwear — my boys Alfie (10) and Austin (13) could spend hours here picking out the freshest kicks and tees. It’s the perfect
spot for that tricky in-between age, where they’re not little boys anymore, but they’re not quite young men either.
Then, there’s USG Store, where you can pretend you’re helping your other half pick out a few bits and bobs, but conveniently get lost in the huge range of retro Adidas sneakers and walk out wearing them instead.
If they are more into the classic, labelfree staples, then UNIQLO is an absolute must. Simple tees and those famous lightweight jackets in loads of different colours… the reasons why the line snaked all the way down Rundle Mall on the day UNIQLO opened! I always say I’m just shopping for my husband, Jimmy, but somehow, I leave armed with bags of clothes and accessories better suited to me — whatcha gonna do, Jimmy?
The Myer Centre isn’t just about shopping; it’s packed with entertainment, too!
Pop Frenzy — Because no shopping trip is complete without your kids trying to convince you that they need the latest collectible pop figures or surprise boxes.
Toyworld — My son, Alfie, may be 10, but if there’s LEGO involved, we’re stopping to see what he doesn’t already have. No questions asked.
Da Klinic — Hot tip: their indoor skate ramp is the ultimate bargaining tool! If your kids behave while you sneak off for a 30-minute foot massage at Massage & Bodywork, they earn some time on the ramp.
And let’s not forget the food. Whether it’s a quick refuel at the food court, bubble tea in hand, or a sneaky sushi roll, there are plenty of options to keep everyone happy!
Family shopping nailed. If you’re looking for a stress-free (or at least stressreduced) shopping day with the family, Myer Centre Adelaide has everything — fashion, food, entertainment and enough distractions to keep everyone happy. Plus, it’s smack bang in the middle of the city, so you can easily pop in before a day of exploring our gorgeous CBD.
