Welcome
TO THE NORTH COUNTRY ANGUS ALLIANCE
Welcome to the 4th Annual North Country Angus Alliance Production Sale! What a time to be in the cattle industry. We are excited to see new faces and grateful for past customers. A great set of bulls and females are available for your evaluation April 16th. I highly encourage everyone to come and look at this year’s offering. Cattle will be in place at the fairgrounds by 4 pm on Friday, April 14th until sale on Sunday. New this year we are facilitating BQA training and State Vet updates on Saturday the 15th at 5:30 pm in the Hockey arena, so come preview the bulls and get BQA certified. It’s an honor to work with individuals of such high integrity at Skeeter Creek Ranch and Clearwater Cattle Company. We are excited to be able to add some of Gebhardt’s best spring calving cows and have high expectations for the future. I think the combination of genetics really allows a little bit of something for everyone. Any questions don’t hesitate to call. Hope to see you April 16th!
Greetings from Achin’ Back Acres, & welcome to the 4th annual North Country Angus Alliance production sale. Many of you may know that I sold my spring herd in November, but this won’t be my last sale. I have been planning to transition from spring calving to late summer/early fall calving for several years. But due to some health issues these past few months, the decision to sell the spring herd was made for me. Several of my best cows were purchased by a sales partner, so those genetics will still be available in future sales.
This is our 22nd year of selling Angus bulls, and I believe our offering is among the best we have ever had. I have worked with Bryan & Jake in the past and feel confident that all of the animals being sold as part of the NCAA sale will be of the highest quality. With a catalog of over 50 bulls from three different herds there should be a chance for everyone to find something that works for their herd.
Clearwater Cattle’s offering will feature 7 big, stout, 20-month old virgin bulls, plus 11 spring yearlings. Because of their maturity I believe strongly in these aged bulls and what they can bring to our customers in the area of breeding strength. The yearlings represent the top 50% of our 2022 calves performing well enough to avoid the knife. The yearlings are sired by leading Angus sires and are out of some top shelf cows. All bulls will have Angus GS information provided. Genomic tests can provide a snapshot, but may not provide a total picture of the animal. As always, your “upclose and personal” visual appraisal of these animals, plus talking with the breeder, is still the most important way to measure the best fit for your herd.
I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and customers at the sale and I thank you for your past support! Please feel free to call me or talk to me at the sale if you have any questions about our bulls.
THANK YOU -
Greetings from Skeeter Creek Ranch! I would like to welcome you all to the 4th annual NCAA Bull and Female Sale and thank you so much for your interest in our genetics. If you attended last year thanks again for making it a success! We look forward to visiting with old friends and making new ones each year. As I sit here writing this, we are calving heifers and just had a lovely March blizzard to keep us on edge a bit. We, however, like all cattle producers are perennial optimists and the future is looking bullish! At Skeeter Creek, we continually strive to improve the cowherd and search for the best proven genetics we can find. We are enrolled in the Maternal Plus program so every calf (or lack of one) is reported to the Association. This even includes our handful of commercial cows. This provides us with more selection tools as we evaluate the cattle and gives the industry more accuracy in Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs). We truly use a balanced approach when evaluating these EPDs, with emphasis on maternal traits. As you review the offering you will notice a lot of comments regarding feet and udder quality, Maternal Calving ease (CEM), cow energy ($EN) and fertility/heifer pregnancy (HP). We believe that a cow that calves early, easily, and year after year is the biggest driver in profit margin for ranchers. We are incredibly happy to offer these genetics to you, our customers, and it is our sincere prayer that they will enhance (Bless) your operation! Please reach out if you need any assistance in making selections for your operation and please stop by to see the bulls and the cows that stand behind them. You are welcome here anytime.
THANK YOU - BRYAN & STEPHANIE RAMSRUD, SKEETER CREEK RANCH

I am not sure where to start with this bull...he has been a favorite since birth and weight leader in the bullpen all winter. Phenotypically, 206 is very good, he impresses from every angle and is mild mannered. His pedigree is stacked with great angus cattle. His sire 4X13 traces 38 times to Emulation 31. The highly maternal McCumber herd claims 4X13 to be the best female maker they have ever used. Crossing Emulation with the masculine Rito bloodline from his Forever Lady dam is a formula that has always worked. He can breed heifers, then make an exceptional herd bull for registered and commercial herds alike. He will make females or feeders. Do not miss this good bull! A very balanced set of EPDs with top 1% PAP, 10% BW and 15% $F. Selling 50% semen interest and full possession.

We have been impressed with this bull from day one. He is thick, moderate, and all bull. His cow family is a favorite and stems back to our original Bando heifers purchased from Nordlunds. His structure and foot quality (top 1% claw and 10% angle) is very good. Moderate births, good growth, carcass quality, and maternal (top 4% $M). 202 is a complete package!

Excellent 4404 son here. His 14-year-old dam stands on some of the best feet we have had grace our pastures. He should be a good outcross to most pedigrees. Balanced EPDs, fertility, and heifer suitable, this is one of my favorites from the pasture last summer and is really coming on strong in the feed pen. Top 2% Angle, 4% Claw, 3% Hair Shed (HS), and 15% CED EPDs.

A nice group of 5 commercial heifers sired mostly by Resolve F57. Resolve is a fantastic individual that my ranch hand (aka Father-in-law Fred), gave him the name “Hercules.” His dam, A303, is a beautiful Rainmaker 9723 cow. These gals have been raised strictly on grass mixed hay, minerals, and 12 lbs. of silage. They have had 2 rounds of Ultrabac 8 and Virashield 6+L5 as calves. Post weaning, they received an additional Ultrabac 8 and Bovi Shield Gold one shot. They were poured late fall and midwinter with Cleanup. They are Bangs vaccinated and ready to go. We expect them to make excellent mama cows.

A GUIDE TO EPDS
EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCE (EPD) is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus.
Calving Ease Direct (CED), expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
Birth Weight (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Weaning Weight (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Yearling Weight (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires
Scrotal Circumference (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting scrotal size compared to that of other sires.
Docility (DOC), expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility in a sire’s offspring compared to another sire
Maternal Milk (Milk), expressed in pounds of calf weaned, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability in his daughters. In other words, it is the part of the calf’s weaning weight attributes to milk and mothering ability.
Maternal Milk (Milk), expressed in pounds of calf weaned, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability in his daughters. In other words, it is the part of the calf’s weaning weight attributes to milk and mothering ability.
Marbling (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Ribeye Area (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M), expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning by decreasing mature cow size and improving docility, foot structure and fertility while maintaining weaning weights consistent with today’s production.
Beef Value ($B), expressed in dollars per carcass, represents the expected average differences in the progeny postweaning performance and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. This index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot and sell on a carcass merit grid.
Combined Value ($C), expressed in dollars per head, which includes all traits that make up both Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) and Beef Value ($B) with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and sell them on a quality-based carcass merit grid.
Custom Formulation Blends are our specialty. We blend feed according to producer needs and desires. Independent nutritionists and consultants are utilized for serving our customers and in-house needs. Choose from a wide array of feed additives like Rumensin, Bovatec, Altosid, and Aureomycin.
