elcome to Four Hill Farm’s Annual production sale. Many of you would recognize this sale as the North Country Angus Alliance typically held at the Clearwater County Fairgrounds. With the full retirement of Keith Gebhardt of Clearwater Cattle Company, we were able to purchase Keith and Karen’s cow herd. Upon doing so, it made more sense to move the sale home to Barnesville, which also gave us the opportunity to change the sale date by a couple of weeks and move from a Sunday to a Friday evening. Friday April 4th, 6 p.m. at The Pitchfork Supper Club Hwy 34 Barnesville.
With all that talk of change let’s talk about what has not changed. This is a very exciting time to be in the cattle industry. We are extremely grateful to past customers and excited to meet new ones. Our offering is the same genetics that have been offered in the past with virgin yearling and virgin 20-month-old bulls, and registered and commercial open females. Bulls that will sire calves that will excel in growth, carcass traits and mothering capability. I believe this year’s offering is one of the best we have ever had and with the genetic diversity from our cow herd and Clearwater’s provides a little bit of something for everyone. All bulls will have passed a breeding soundness exam and be fully vaccinated prior to sale day. All bulls will have an Angus GS genomic test and parentage verification done to provide the most accurate EPD’s possible. We still recommend to visually appraise these animals which can be done on site at the Pitchfork anytime after noon on Friday or any time prior at the farm located at 21990 Hwy 34 Barnesville.
I truly hope that you take the time to evaluate this year’s offering either in person or on Dvauction.com. Our families are excited to welcome you to our 8th Annual Production Sale and hope you can join us April 4th 6 p.m. for beef supper and drinks. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a viewing time don’t hesitate to call or text Jake at 218.329.9293. We pride ourselves on great customer service and stand behind these bulls and females and thank you for past and future support.
THANK YOU,
Jake Thompson

This bull has been a standout since birth. He had the second heaviest weaning weight of the 2024 calf crop and the heaviest yearling weight of the 2024 calf crop. His mother has been in the donor pen for the last 3 years. We had 8 full brothers on the sale last year that were very well received. Don’t let this opportunity on a true herd sire pass by. We have retained a maternal brother that we use and his steer crop averaged 755lbs bawling off the cow the week before Thanksgiving.

I am a member of the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association (MSCA), and I think you should be one too! MSCA is a membership-based organization representing Minnesota’s cattle producers. MSCA’s primary focus is addressing local, state and federal issues impacting the longterm viability of cattlemen and women in our state. When it comes to legislation impacting Minnesota cattle producers, you can count on MSCA to have your back. MSCA works on several promotional and educational activities during the year including the Summer Beef Tour, trade shows, Farmfest, MSCA Annual Cattle Convention and supports local affiliate activities.
But MSCA can’t do it alone. As a grassroots organization, our voice is amplified through membership. To continue fighting for the rights of Minnesota cattle producers, we must stand together. I am asking you to consider joining the association who advocates for our rights to operate without harmful government regulations.
Join MSCA today to ensure a viable Minnesota cattle industry now and in the future.

We have used Rawhide here for quite a few years with a lot of success. This calving ease sire ranks in the 2% for SC, Doc, and ratioed 98 at birth. The great-great maternal grand dam to this bull, T23, was a cornerstone dam in the Clearwater herd. Every daughter was retained as a replacement. She produced until she was 15 years old. Recommended for heifers.
Talk about a smooth-made deep-bodied individual here. This calving ease sire ratioed 98 at birth and ranks in the top 1% for scrotal. Recommended for heifers.
This Accomplishment son is a gentle giant. Top 5% for Doc and wide as the day is long. He has a great set of feet and legs under him. His dam comes from a great cow family at Carter Angus in Vermillion, SD.

This Baldridge Movin On son is backed by sire power with Poss Impact, GAR Prophet, Confidence Plus, Basin Excitement. All these add to the ability to accurately project the calf outcome, darn right good.
These fall bulls are full of power and this is no exception. This bull has a clean shoulder with an exceptional amount of depth. Take a deep look into the pedigree of this bull and find sires such as: Resource, Justified, 1682 and Bruiser.
EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCE (EPD) is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus.
Calving Ease Direct (CED), expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
Birth Weight (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Weaning Weight (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Yearling Weight (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires
Scrotal Circumference (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting scrotal size compared to that of other sires.
Docility (DOC), expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility in a sire’s offspring compared to another sire
Maternal Milk (Milk), expressed in pounds of calf weaned, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability in his daughters. In other words, it is the part of the calf’s weaning weight attributes to milk and mothering ability.
Heifer Pregnancy (HP), is a selection tool to increase the probability or chance of a sire’s daughters becoming pregnant as first–calf heifers during a normal breeding season. A higher EPD is the more favorable direction, and the EPD is reported in percentage units.
Marbling (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Ribeye Area (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M), expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning by decreasing mature cow size and improving docility, foot structure and fertility while maintaining weaning weights consistent with today’s production.
Beef Value ($B), expressed in dollars per carcass, represents the expected average differences in the progeny post-weaning performance and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. This index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot and sell on a carcass merit grid.
Combined Value ($C), expressed in dollars per head, which includes all traits that make up both Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) and Beef Value ($B) with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and sell them on a quality-based carcass merit grid.
