Bristol,  VT  Homeowner  Recommends  Bristol  Electronics “Bristol  Electronics  makes  it  easy  for  you  to  go  solar.  From  the  detailed,  patient  explanations,  to  the  rebates,  estimates  and  permits,  Bristol  Electronics  takes  care  of  it  all.  I  obtained  several  quotes  from  various  companies  but  it  was  Bristol  Electronics  who  ultimately  won  my  business  with  their  friendly,  approachable  attitude  and  superior  knowledge  of  the  technology.  When  I  began  this  project  , ZDV XQHGXFDWHG DQG DSSUHKHQVLYH 1RZ , Âż QG P\VHOI HQFRXUDJLQJ my  friends  and  family  to  call  Bristol  Electronics  for  a  free  quote  and  explanation  because  I  truly  believe  in  their  product  and  company.  They  are  highly  skilled  and  professional  in  every  respect. Stephen  and  his  crew  encouraged  my  children’s  curiosity  and  made  learning  fun  for  them.  Little  things  like  making  handprints  in  the  cement  of  our  solar  system  sparked  talks  about  reducing  your  carbon  footprint  and  how  everyone  can  help,  even  children.  The  whole  experience  could  not  have  been  easier  or  better.  Seeing  the  power  meter  run  backwards  is  just  icing  on  the  cake..â€?                                           Heather  Shepard  –  Bristol               Â

SALISBURY  —  Last  Thursday  was  one  of  the  two  Days  of  Caring  spon- sored  by  the  United  Way.  Three  men  from  the  Middlebury  College’s  carpen- try  department  came  to  the  Salisbury  Town  Hall  to  repair  the  many  broken  windows.  They  took  apart  seven  win- dows  and  replaced  the  glass.  Thanks  to  Mike  Pixley,  Kyle  Kelton  and  Ron  Munson  for  all  their  help.  Glass  was  furnished  by  Desabrais  Glass.  Unfor- tunately  during  the  repair  work  it  was  discovered  that  some  frames  are  so  rot- ten  new  windows  will  be  needed  in  the  near  future. On  Saturday,  the  second  Day  of  Car- ing,  Jean  Weidman  came  and  weeded  WKH Ă€RZHU JDUGHQ LQ IURQW RI WKH KDOO and  several  trustees  and  Marilyn,  our  new  librarian,  worked  in  the  library  ZDVKLQJ ZLQGRZV DQG OLJKW Âż[WXUHV vacuuming  and  organizing  books  on  the  new  book  shelves.  People  are  en- couraged  to  stop  in  and  see  the  im- provements,  use  the  computers  and  borrow  books  and  other  media  materi- als.  We  have  free  WiFi. The  community  school  also  had  vol- unteers  from  Days  of  Caring  working  on  projects  at  the  school. Last  week  this  column  mentioned  that  Joshua  Ekroos  had  won  the  bi- cycle  and  helmet  from  the  drawing  of  summer  reading  participants.  The  priz- es  were  made  possible  by  money  from  William  Brown  who  was  a  resident  of  Salisbury.  William  Brown  was  a  mem- ber  of  a  group  home  and  often  rode  his  bike,  loaded  with  many  of  his  posses- sions,  on  Route  7.  When  he  could  no  longer  ride  he  would  walk  beside  his  bike,  as  it  was  his  favorite  companion.  When  he  died  in  2006  he  had  no  next Â

The  school  board  decided  that  to  honor  William  some  of  the  money  should  be  used  to  fund  a  Books  and  Bike  summer  program.  In  this  way  his  love  for  bikes  would  be  passed  on  with  a  bonus  of  learning  to  love  read- ing.  This  is  an  unexpected  gift  from  an  unexpected  individual.  This  informa- tion  came  from  the  school’s  principal,  Fernanda  Canales. This  week  the  reading  mentoring  program,  Everybody  Wins,  begins  on  Thursday.  More  mentors  are  needed.  Currently  there  are  22  adults  from  Salisbury,  Ripton,  Middlebury,  Corn- wall  and  Leicester  who  meet  weekly  for  an  hour  with  their  students  to  read,  play  board  games  and  to  talk.  All  22  folks  will  tell  you  that  it  is  one  of  the  most  rewarding  hours  of  their  week.  If  you  can  come  to  school  from  11:30  a.m.  to  12:30  p.m.  on  a  Monday  or  Thursday  each  week,  please  call  Marianne  Doe  at  462-Â3169.
