Kids getting into swing

Around 15 local residents turned out at a July 7 Cornwall selectboard meeting to learn about a 150kW so- lar array that the SunCommon com- pany is seeking to build on a portion of the Stephen Payne property at 2838 West St. The project would fea- ture 660 solar panels serving around 30 families through the company’s “Community Solar” program, ac- cording to R.J. MUMS summer students diving into ‘Shark Tank’ By JOHN FLOWERS MIDDLEBURY — Summer’s here, but class is still in session at Mid- dlebury Union Middle School, where around 16 students are getting a crash course in entrepreneurship thanks to

dedicated teachers, some community- minded business people and inspira- tion from an ABC television show that helps jump-start budding enterprises. The “Shark Tank Start Up” summer program is led by MUMS teachers

Martha Santa Maria and Jennifer Bill- ings. Several of the participating stu- dents — all of middle school age — were invited to the four-week Shark Tank offering based on their teachers’ perception that it would be a good

avenue through which to hone their math, English and/or writing skills. “We know they have so much po- tential that maybe a different kind of setting would work to extract that (See Students, Page 7)
