CAMBRIDGE,  Mass.  —  The  Middlebury  College  women’s  la- crosse  team  this  past  weekend  picked  up  two  more  one-Âsided  road  wins  to  improve  to  4-Â0.  The  Panthers,  ranked  No.  4  in  NCAA  Division  III,  will  open  at  home  this  Saturday,  when  they  host  NESCAC  foe  Wesleyan  at  noon. Panther  ski  team  vies  at  NCAAs BOULDER,  Colo.  —  The  Middle- EXU\ &ROOHJH VNL WHDP ÂżQLVKHG WK among  21  teams  competing  at  the  2016  NCAA  skiing  championships  hosted  by  the  University  of  Colorado  between  March  9  and  12.  The  Panthers  compiled  133  points,  while  Denver  captured  its  23rd  title  with  567  points.  Colorado  (491),  Utah  (485)  and  Montana  State  (406)  rounded  out  the  top  teams,  with  Ver- mont  (310)  leading  all  Eastern  squads  in  seventh. On  the  men’s  side,  Mads  Stroem  of  Colorado  took  home  the  crown  in  the  10K  event  in  22:06.  Western  men  took  the  top-Ânine  spots  in  the  race.  Panther  Patrick  McElravey  placed  28th  in  24:05,  eighth  among  Eastern  racers. Charley  and  Mark  have  a  com- bined  82  years  of  experience.  Their  skill,  great  attention  to  detail,  pas- sion  for  old  barns  and  synergy  with  each  other  became  apparent  quickly. I  watched  in  amazement  as  they  detached  the  barn  from  the  cement  wall;Íž  removed  massive  bolts  and  lifted  the  barn  several  inches  off  the  wall  —  with  a  hand  jack.  I  could  hear  the  entire  barn  being  raised  up  by  men  who  are  well  past  the  young  buck  stage  of  life,  but  have  more  life  in  them  than  many  young  bucks! From  one  end  of  the  barn  to  the  other,  they  replaced  the  old  wooden  beams,  which  tilted  worryingly,  with  solid,  new  8-Âinch-Âby-Â8-Âinch  beams  they  cut  to  size  from  10-Âfoot  lengths Â
previously  milled  at  the  Book  Broth- ers  in  Benson.  Charley  and  Mark  built  braces  for  the  beams  and  shored  up  the  seams.  Within  weeks  of  commencing Â

Charley: Âł7KH GLIÂżFXOW\ OLHV LQ WKDW WKHUH is  no  textbook,  there’s  no  secret  ‌  every  barn  is  different.  You  look  at  the  problem  and  decide  how  you  are  going  to  solve  it.  “We  thought  a  long  time  about  how  we  were  going  to  deal  with  your  barn.  It  was  a  culmination  of  visits  and  sleepless  nights  thinking  about  it.  You  have  to  keep  an  open  mind  ‌  there’s  always  problem  solving,  it  happens  every  time.â€? JOHNSON  —  For  4-ÂH  mem- bers  enrolled  in  the  poultry  proj- ect,  March  5  was  an  “egg-Âcitingâ€?  day  as  they  competed  for  prizes  at  the  annual  University  of  Vermont  (UVM)  Extension  4-ÂH  Poultry  Quiz  Bowl  and  Skill-Âa-Âthon  at  Johnson  State  College  in  Johnson. The  youths  competed  in  groups  based  on  their  level  of  poultry  NQRZOHGJH 7KH WRS IRXU ÂżQLVKHUV in  each  division  received  awards  and  prizes  including  poultry  mag- azines  and  educational  materials. Bristol  police  deal  with  variety  of  incidents  in  a  busy  January BRISTOL  —  The  Bristol  Police  Department  dealt  with  several  dog  incidents  during  the  month  of  January. Police  Chief  Kevin  Gibbs  recently  released  a  log  of  January  activity  WKDW VKRZV WKDW DQ RI¿ FHU IRXQG WZR dogs  wandering  on  North  Street  near  Fitch  Avenue  on  Jan.  1.  The  dogs  wandered  back  to  their  home  and  WKH RI¿ FHU ZDUQHG WKH RZQHU DERXW letting  the  dogs  run  free. 7KHQ RQ -DQ DQ RI¿ FHU UHVSRQGHG to  a  Munsill  Avenue  residence  for  a  citizen  dispute  over  the  ownership  of  D GRJ 7KH RI¿ FHU UHIHUUHG WKH SDUWLHV to  small  claims  court. Police  looked  into  an  anonymous  call  on  Jan.  19  reporting  an  issue  regarding  a  dog  at  a  Mountain  Street  residence.  The  complainant  said  the  dog  was  outside  without  shelter,  food  or  water  and  left  on  a  lead  line  that  was  wrapped  around  a  post  prevent- ing  the  dog  from  freely  moving.  Police  went  over  and  found  the  dog  was  on  a  lead  line  that  was  wrapped  around  a  post  and  the  water  dish  was  frozen.  The  dog  was  taken  to  the  SRXQG DQG WKH RZQHU ZDV QRWL¿ HG Bristol  police  conducted  13  town- contracted  patrols  outside  the  police  district  during  the  month,  including  on  Lincoln  Road,  Monkton  Road,  Burpee  Road,  Hewitt  Road,  Route  116  South  and  River  Road.  On  these  SDWUROV RI¿ FHUV LVVXHG VSHHGLQJ tickets,  two  tickets  for  stop  sign  violations,  one  ticket  for  driving  with  a  suspended  license  and  several  warnings.
