high  school  sports  season  gets  under  way  with  games  this  Thursday,  Friday  and  Sat- urday  and  then  early  next  week,  with  two  teams  seeking  to  repeat  as  champions  â&#x20AC;&#x201D;  Middlebury  Union  football  and  Mount  Abra- ham  Union  girlsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;  soccer.  Other  fall  teams  will  be  looking  to  build  RQ VWURQJ campaigns,  in- cluding  Otter  Valley  football  DQG ¿HOG KRFNH\ and  Tiger  girlsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;  soccer. PROCTOR  â&#x20AC;&#x201D;  The  Middlebury  Tigers  Major  Summer  League  soft- ball  team  won  the  title  in  the  Rut- land  County  Softball  League  in  which  they  competed  this  summer.  The  Tigers,  made  up  of  Mid- dlebury  area  girls  in  grades  5-Â8,  clinched  the  title  by  beating  West  Rutland  in  the  league  tournament  ¿QDO LQ D JDPH LQ 3URFWRU RQ -XO\ The  Tigers  were  sponsored  by  Rupeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s  Custom  Cutting  of  Sud- bury.  They  posted  an  8-Â3  record  LQ UHJXODU VHDVRQ YV WKH ¿YH RWKHU teams  in  the  league.  Members  of  the  team  were  Olivia  Audet,  Aby  LaRock,  Emma  Lar- row,  Grace  Paquette,  Shayla  Phil- lips,  Sydney  Provencher,  Kylee  Roberts,  Kyra  Roberts,  Gwen  Staf- ford,  Katelyn  Stearns,  Taylor  Syl- vester  and  Harley  Williams. FOOTBALL  The  MUHS  F O O T B A L L  team  made  and  deserved  many  RI WKH IDOO headlines,  win- ning  its  second  straight  Divi- sion  I  title  and  stretching  its  winning  streak  to  22  games. Graduation  hit  the  Tigers  hard,  ZLWK WHDP members  receiv- ing  diplomas  in  June,  including  six  who  played  for  Vermont  in  the  Shrine  Maple  Sugar  Bowl  earlier  this  month.  But  the  year  before  also  saw  plenty  of  graduation  losses,  and  Coach  Dennis  Smithâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s  Tigers  did  not  miss  a  beat.
