Welcome from the Director of Music
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the first of this year's ensemble concerts. It has been my privilege to get to know the wonderfully hard working and talented musicians of Oakham School and to lead them in weekly rehearsals towards tonight's musical feast! It is reassuring to me that in a time when the Arts are facing such great challenges, we can see our young people taking both enjoyment and pride in their performances.
Seeing all of this for the first time has been truly humbling for me: the polish and poise of the Wednesday lunchtime concert series, the camaraderie of the Monday night informal concerts, the gritty determination of the weekly ensemble rehearsals contrasting with the pure fun of open mic nights and the formality of chapel services. Mix all of this with a truly dedicated and inspiring team of teachers and you have a music department of which we can be very proud.
I hope that you enjoy tonight's concert and all of the other incredible events this academic year.
