Those who know me already know that I don’t tend to use my full title and usually just introduce myself as Gette. I’ve worked in the Third Sector for over 20 years, with firstly a year at Aberdeen Cyrenians, 18 years with Home-Start Aberdeen and for the last 4 years have been working with Aberlour delivering a variety of safeguarding training to multi-agency groups across the city. I am delighted to work with ACVO, an organisation that has always been a great source of support and advice for me over these last 20 plus years. My new role in ACVO aims to provide support for third sector organisations working with children, young people and their families to help deliver on The Promise. The whole ethos of The Promise really highlights for me the key areas that matter; ensuring that whole families receive the support they need, that their voices are heard and that they are truly partners in all services that they access. I am currently starting to contact third sector partners to talk about the work they are doing and find out if I can provide any help or support. Please feel free to get in touch with me as I’d love to gather a whole city picture and perhaps see where we can work together to support each other.

About The Promise Scotland has an ambition ‘to be the best place in the world to grow up’ so that children are ‘loved, safe, and respected and realise their full potential’. In October 2016, the First Minister made a commitment that Scotland would “come together and love its most vulnerable children to give them the childhood they deserve.” In October 2016, after meeting with and listening to children and young people in care, Scotland’s First Minister announced, “an independent, root and branch review of the care system” to look at “the underpinning legislation, practices, culture and ethos”. The Independent Care Review’s (Care Review) aim was to identify and deliver lasting change in Scotland’s ‘care system’, leaving a legacy that will transform the wellbeing of infants, children and young people. It began its work in February 2017 and concluded on 5 February 2020 with the publication of seven reports, one of which was The Promise. Find out more at thepromise.scot

Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire’s Third Sector Community Justice Forum Monday 5th June 2023 at shmu

CVO and AVA have long hosted regular and various fora to support, inform and develop the third sector. After a period of absence we have decided to undergo a refresh of our Third Sector Community Justice Forum.
In a new approach and in partnership with AVA (TSI in Aberdeenshire), we have decided to have an in-person inaugural meeting to scope out and explore this further. This meeting will held on Monday 5th June 2023, from 10.00am to 12.00pm at SHMU, Station House, Woodside, Aberdeen, AB24 2WB. Social Enterprise Scotland Comes to Aberdeen Aberdeen’s Social Enterprise community, as well as those looking to learn more about social enterprises, were treated to an afternoon of engaging speakers courtesy Social Enterprise Scotland on May 23rd.
The event, delivered in partnership with ACVO and hosted at Aberdeen Science Centre, aimed to create closer working ties with Social Enterprise Scotland and Aberdeen’s Third Sector. Speaking at the event were Claire Shaw and Sandy Mathers of ACVO; Kim Wallace, Social Enterprise Scotland; Susan Cheyne, Aberdeen Social Enterprise Network (ASEN); Douglas Westwater, CEO, Community Enterprise; Emily Mnyayi, Head of Education, Social Enterprise Academy. Over the course of the afternoon discussions were held about local support, funding and
networking opportunities as well as an overview of national support available to social enterprises in Aberdeen. Given its success, Social Enterprise Scotland are keen to hold similar events in Aberdeen in the future. Mark Cameron Dance entertained attendees with energetic performances and the event was hosted by ‘Willy Wonka’ himself, the incredibly talented performer Kevin Littlejohn from Right Here Productions. The evening was hosted at The Chester Hotel and supported by Platinum sponsor WM Donald and silver sponsor Ethos Energy. Sarah Misra, CEO at Befriend a Child said: "Fundraising events such as The Golden Ticket Ball are essential to ensuring we are able to provide much needed support to disadvantaged children across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. We are delighted about the sum raised on Friday and we couldn't have done it without our fantastic sponsors, guests and supporters who all contributed to making the evening incredible."
Over the years Befriend a Child's provision of programmes and projects has grown and today the charity supports approximately 250 children annually. The charity's waitlist for its services is ever-growing and the £35,000 raised on the night will fund 24 places within the charity's 1:1 befriending programme for children experiencing challenging life circumstances.
Children can be referred to Befriend a Child for several reasons such as a lack of confidence or self-esteem, social isolation, lack of a positive role model and substance misuse in the family.
The ball saw volunteer befriender, Garry Sturrock, share his inspiring experience of befriending with the charity. Having volunteered since 2015, Garry has supported two befrendees during his time with the organisation. His emotional speech highlighted the difference he has made to the lives of both children and how befriending has positively impacted his life.
Jean Gordon, Head of Operations at Befriend a Child said: "Through our 1:1 support and group activities we aim to build new life skills and increase confidence and selfesteem. Through providing a positive adult role model, our befrienders help to reduce social isolation and improve the overall wellbeing and quality of life of the children and young people we support."
Befriend a Child supports children and young people living in difficult life circumstances across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire through 1:1 and group befriending and mentoring programmes and projects.

Free digital concerts for community partners The Royal Scottish National Orchestra is delighted to announce a new series of Digital Care Packages, available to community partners to access for free. Digital Care Packages began during the pandemic as a way for RSNO to continue engaging with communities, offering a selection of digital performances for people to enjoy at their own pace, in their own setting. This new series will feature three exciting performances, released in June, July, and August, beginning with the recording of the dementiafriendly performance, which has been released during Alzheimer Scotland’s Dementia Awareness Week in early June. Following feedback from the previous release, these performances will be available to view for an extended period of time until Monday 18 December. Charity’s healthy eating campaign doubles with generous grant A healthy eating initiative established by local family support charity, Home-Start Aberdeen, will double in size thanks to a significant donation from North Sea operating company, Anasuria Operating Company (AOC).

he Recipe for Life project will support families with practical cooking skills, advice
on food budgeting, shopping and healthy living. “It’s fantastic to be doubling our efforts on Recipe for Life with this support from Anasuria, and we’re absolutely delighted to be their chosen charity for 2023/24,” says Eleanor McEwan, CEO of HomeStart Aberdeen. “Coming hot on the heels of a global pandemic, the current cost of living crisis has left more families struggling to cope, with an estimated 1 in 5 of Aberdeen’s children now living in poverty. There are many parents out there with little or no practical cooking experience who want to make changes but don’t know where to start. Through Recipe for Life, we can help parents build their cooking skills and confidence and gain a better understanding of how to improve their family’s diet.” Through the provision of one-toone cooking sessions in families'
own homes with a trained volunteer, food packs, recipes, kitchen equipment, group cooking and food sharing sessions, the project improves family diets, and increases their knowledge, skills and confidence around cooking and healthy eating. “The nutrition children receive in their early years can affect the rest of their lives,” continues Eleanor. “Helping parents provide healthy meals and snacks for their children translates to improving their concentration levels, physical and cognitive development, learning outcomes, behaviours and longterm health. Annual Social Enterprise Awards Scotland open for applications with 3 new categories for 2023

pplications have opened for the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2023. The
awards, organised by Social Enterprise Scotland, celebrate the incredible work and impact of social enterprises across Scotland. They are a real opportunity to showcase the very best of the sector, highlighting the agility, ability, and active role that social enterprises play in building places, supporting communities, and making a positive impact on our environment and wellbeing. This year, three new categories have been introduced providing further opportunities for social enterprises and those who work with them to be recognised for their impact. These are: ‘Building Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Justice Award’; ‘Tech for Good Award’; ‘Social Enterprise Volunteer Champion Award’. These are in addition to the existing six award categories, which are ‘Social Enterprise of the Year Scotland Award’, ‘One to Watch Award’, ‘Buy Social – Market Builder Award’, ‘Health and Social Care Award’, ‘Environmental Social Enterprise Award’ and ‘Social Enterprise Employee Champion Award’.
The winners will be announced at an evening ceremony in the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 26th October. TechFest's industry competition, STEM Next, returns for 2023 A TechFest competition which challenges senior pupils and students to research and write an essay is back for 2023.
B
ridging the gap between school education and higher education / working environments, STEM Next has strong links with industry and is sponsored by Energy Resourcing, Ocean Winds, Salamander, Stromar and CNOOC International. STEM Next is a solo project which requires the young people to undertake independent research, including an interview with an external industry professional, prior to writing an in-depth response to their chosen essay question. Three interdisciplinary categories will form the basis of this year’s STEM Next essay submissions. Those taking part will be able to choose from a selection of essay questions broadly themed around ‘Energy in Action’, ‘Life Sciences and Medicine’ and ‘Chemistry and Biological Sciences’. Dr Yashka Smith, STEM lead at TechFest, said: “As young people near the end of their senior secondary education, STEM Next is an opportunity for them to develop skills which they will need as they move on from school.” The international essay competition, which last year attracted entries from countries including the UK, Vietnam, India, Iran and the USA, delivers a supported programme for 16-18-year-olds. Young people are provided with a
variety of support throughout the process. This includes a host of video resources covering topics including referencing and interview techniques. TechFest will also host question and answer sessions to provide additional, personalised, support to the young people. Yashka said: “There’s no doubt that entrants to STEM Next really enjoy finding out more about their chosen subject. Those who have taken part in previous years have talked about how they have enjoyed carrying out independent research and felt that the process helped them to take their essay writing to the next level, preparing them for the level of research and work which is needed at university.” Participants have until June 18 to register for the competition, the essay deadline is August 31, with the winners announced in November.
TechFest is also calling on industry professionals to sign up to support the initiative. “Industry professionals are integral to STEM Next. The interviews are a compulsory element of the competition and help the entrants to develop their essay.” said Yashka. “Those working in, or with in-depth knowledge of, the energy, life science and medicine, chemistry or biological science industries can volunteer to be part of STEM Next.” Anyone interested in volunteering to be interviewed by the young people as part of STEM Next should register here: Student Sign - Up Sheet (google.com).” The winning essays will be published on www.techfest.org.uk and the top three submissions in each category will receive between £50 and £200 of Amazon vouchers.

£20,000 donation to provide a good night’s sleep for 150 local children

he £20,000 donation will provide beds for over 150 local children as part of an ongoing
partnership aimed at supporting disadvantaged children in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. NEO Energy donated this award to AberNecessities which will be utilised to purchase beds for children in the north-east, who are living in poverty. Founded in 2019, AberNecessities has grown rapidly due to the sudden arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic shortly after inception, and the cost-of-living crisis which prevents low-income families from being able to provide for their children in the way they would like to. Founder Danielle Flecher-Horn commented: “We are extremely
grateful to NEO for its ongoing support and this generous donation comes at an important time when we are working hard to help families who are struggling to provide their children with basic essentials, as well as paying their ever-increasing bills. “We continue to witness an alarming number of children facing bed poverty, a concerning trend which is becoming more prevalent. “Poor sleep can exacerbate both physical and mental health conditions, causing lifelong consequences. “Every child has the right to a good night’s sleep, and by giving a bed, this basic essential at its most fundamental level, we can provide warmth, comfort and a safe place or a child. On average, AberNecessities gifts 20 beds
every month to local families. “This year, we will support in excess of 10,000 children, and we are only able to do that thanks to our generous corporate and private supporters. “Every day we receive calls from parents in desperate need, and the support we are able to offer gives them back a sense of security and dignity. Charlie House is Out & About across North-east Scotland The Charlie House team are on the road across the North-east of Scotland to increase awareness, access to information and bring support closer to local families.
T
he free-of-charge drop-in sessions will be held at accessible locations such as
libraries or community hubs in the heart of local communities. These informal sessions will offer the opportunity to meet the team in a welcoming and relaxed environment. You will find out more about the charity, their services, and the support they provide locally. You can also find out about how you can get involved. The team is keen to meet with new and existing families, fundraisers, volunteers, professionals working in health, education or social work, and anyone with an interest in charity
or Charlie House within local communities. Founded in 2011, Aberdeen-based Charity Charlie House supports babies, children and young people living with life-limiting or lifethreatening conditions and their families across Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney, and Shetland. It has since gone on to support hundreds of families by delivering accessible activities for all the family to participate in, sibling activities and emotional support. The charity's first ‘Out & About’ session will be at Inverurie Town Hall on Friday 9th June with visitors invited to drop in anytime between 12:00 noon – 5:00 pm.
The next session will be in Elgin Library on the 29th of June from 12:30 pm – 6:00 pm. With more Out & About sessions being planned for later in the year, Charlie House is looking forward to meeting existing and potential families, volunteers and fundraisers as well as those working in health, social work and education across the North-east of Scotland, and beyond. Creating community in Aberdeen to alleviate the negative effects of anxiety Dealing with anxiety can be difficult but no one needs to experience it alone. Anxiety is a natural response to the uncertain world around us. For example, in the current cost-of-living crisis, more than a third of adults feel anxious about their financial situation. But it’s important that we recognise and respond when we feel anxious, so that our anxiety doesn’t become overwhelming. There are so many amazing third sector organisations and community groups working within Aberdeen that offer support, connection and advice around mental health & wellbeing In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week 2023, ACVO TSI worked with three local organisations - Baltic Boys Aberdeen, Four Pillars & Pet and Companion (PEACE) - to highlight the work they do and the positive impact it has in the city.

Baltic Boys Aberdeen formed in 2022 with the aim of encouraging men in the North East to experience the positive benefits of cold water dipping... The group meet weekly at Aberdeen to dip in the North Sea and enjoy the physical and mental benefits it brings. Exposure to cold water is known to help your body create endorphins and make you feel less stressed and members of Baltic Boys Aberdeen can attest to this, noting that plunging in to the waves off the coast of Aberdeen brings a sense of focus and revitalisation. Baltic Boys Aberdeen's key ethos is reflected in their tagline “Cold at Sea. Warm at Heart”. As well as the positive benefits of the action of cold water dipping itself, the supportive and inclusive community the group have created offers men in the area the chance to connect with others and focus on fostering a sense of mental wellbeing. Sharing experiences, pushing your body to embrace the cold and connecting with others is a key focus for Baltic Boys Aberdeen and as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2023, Matt, Rueben and Stuart from the group share their experiences of cold water dipping and how it has helped them to manage and overcome anxieties.

Through my work as a vet, I witnessed the effects of human loneliness and isolation first hand, particularly amongst elderly pet owners " writes Sarah Jeffrey CEO of Pet and Companion PEACE "I also became increasingly aware of the vital comfort and companionship that many pets provide for their human families. The potential to help bring peace to people – by coupling the therapeutic benefits of contact with animals with the support of Pastoral Care – was clear. I therefore decided to combine my experience in Veterinary Medicine, PR, and Pastoral Care to establish the charity ‘Pet and Companion (PEACE for short) in Aberdeen in 2016. "PEACE provides Pastoral Care (caring, attentive listening) along with Canine Therapy (using the comforting presence of a dog to help relax people) to those in need of support and companionship. We currently visit: the elderly; patients receiving end of life care; students during stressful periods; and vulnerable women. "We are very keen to recruit new PEACE Teams in the Aberdeen area! So, if you or someone you know has an interest in pastoral care, some free time and a lovely, gentle dog, please get in touch, we would love to hear from you!" Four Pillars’ mission is to support the LGBT+ community in Grampian in manners of Mental, Emotional, Physical and Sexual Health." writes Deejay Bullock, CEO of Four Pillars "We offer information & support on a person-to-person basis to build a community that supports itself through peer education; thereby allowing individuals to make informed choices to improve their overall health and wellbeing. "We know from experience that those in the LGBT+ community suffer disproportionately with poor mental health, anxiety, and isolation. Many people in today's wider community often assume that LGBT+ issues; discrimination, family exile, persecution, and murder are for the history books. However, that is unfortunately far from the truth. Many people today still struggle with these issues and organisations such as ours are here to support those that continue to suffer simply because of who they are. "Bringing the community together is a vital support service for reducing isolation and improving mental health. Simply knowing you are not alone, your experiences can be shared and your voice is heard is a great power at reducing anxiety around sexual orientation & gender identity. Without organisations like Four Pillars, people across Grampian simply wouldn't have those pathways, those affirming experiences or connections and opportunities to build new friendships. "

Alcohol & Drugs Action would like to thank all their volunteers who work hard to make peoples recovery journey that little bit easier. One client, accepting a telephone Befriender just at the start of lockdown, said “I can honestly say it’s the best thing I’ve done”. Our gardening group volunteers keep going during summer and winter providing great indoor and outdoor experiences for all who attend. Peer volunteers who help facilitate recovery groups or promote what we do, show that, recovery is achievable and sustainable. Finally, the craft group volunteers bring together family members, people in recovery and friends to learn new skills and be creative. ADA wants to ‘Celebrate’ our volunteers and thank them for all they do to ’Inspire’ others.’

Event at Trinity Centre Aberdeen hailed big success as the third sector come together to engage city residents

ocal charities gathered in Aberdeen’s Trinity Centre on Monday 8th May for the Big Help
Out Volunteering Fayre to inspire Aberdeen residents to get more involved with their communities. The Big Help Out was hosted nationwide as part of the celebrations for the Coronation of HM King Charles III with the aim
of encouraging the country to lend a hand in their communities and support the work of local charities and community groups by giving the gift of their time. An estimated 6 million people took part in the volunteering drive on May 8th across the UK with the occasion marked in Aberdeen with the Big Help Out Volunteering Fayre, hosted by Aberdeen based
family and children’s charity We Too! in partnership with ACVO TSI and the Trinity Centre. The event saw Aberdeen residents given the opportunity to discover more about the importance of volunteering in the city and the huge positive impact it has day to day. The gathering was hailed as a huge success with almost 7,000 people visiting the centre over the

the duration of the fayre, a 51.6% increase in footfall during that period in the Trinity Centre compared to last year, highlighting the great support for volunteering and community action from the people of Aberdeen. Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Councillor Dr. David Cameron, kindly opened the event and expressed his immense appreciation towards volunteers, acknowledging how important they are for the city while urging everyone to get involved with their communities and to give their time where they can. Mike Melvin, Volunteering Services Manager at ACVO, said: "HM King Charles III’s dedication continues to inspire and encourage people to get involved in their community and volunteer. Mental Health & Wellbeing Forum ACVO have long hosted regular and various fora to support and inform the third sector, particularly as we continue to make our way through the current crises. Gathimba Edwards Foundation announces funding available for families of disabled children in the north-east
N
orth East based charity, Gathimba Edwards Foundation, is asking the public to submit their applications to receive funding from the Neil Jaffrey Initiative. The initiative currently has funding available to support children with severe disabilities and is reaching out to families to apply to receive a portion of this aid. The Neil Jaffrey Initiative was established in 2015 in memory of one of Gathimba Edwardss’ most loyal supporters. Whilst the charity’s core focus area is supporting children in Kenya, the initiative was set up with the aim to support children with disabilities in Scotland, and has been able to provide over
£30,000 of funding for specialist equipment and service support.

Tyler’s mum, Caelsa, commented on the change the charity has made to her son’s life: “the Neil Jaffrey Initiative has not only helped my boy but changed our lives in so many ways by allowing us to have access to equipment not available to him on the NHS. It has given Tyler a new found independence and allowed him to thrive in everything he does.”

Co-op opens applications for Local Community Fund Applications have now opened for community groups and charities to apply to receive funding and support from Co-op’s Local Community Fund. Co-op’s Local Community Fund has supported over 30,000 local community projects across the UK since its launch in 2016, and charities and organisations, who play a vital role in the wellbeing of communities, can apply up until 11 June to be considered for the next round of funding. The Co-op's support comes at a much-needed time, with insight from community causes across the UK showing that more than eight-in-10 (84%) of local groups have seen a jump in demand for their services through the cost-of-living crisis. CFINE's 'Cook at the Nook' project chosen as recipient of Celebrate Aberdeen parade bucket collection
A
berdeen based charity and social enterprise, CFINE, which tackles poverty, builds resilience
and improves health and wellbeing for and with vulnerable, disadvantaged individuals, families and communities, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2022 Celebrate Aberdeen Parade collection fund. The organisation, which provides support across the North-east, will use the £1,100 donation to provide a block of 12 ‘cooking on a budget’ sessions for eight people at its community training kitchen, Cook at the ‘Nook. Cook at the ‘Nook is a fully equipped training kitchen and CFINE’s trained and experienced staff will be on hand to provide one-to-one support for participants. The donation will cover the cost of delivering the sessions, including ingredients, tuition and training. The focus of the sessions is on food skills education, supporting participants in making cost-effective, nutritious choices, by increasing confidence and skills in the kitchen. The funds were generated from the collecting buckets carried by volunteers during the parade. Since the parade first started in 2011, thousands of pounds have been raised by the generosity of the spectators who line the parade route. One hundred per cent of the money raised each year goes to one of the participating organisations.

Graeme Robbie, CFINE Senior Development Manager – Strategy, said the donation will provide a very welcome boost to support the services it provides. “The cost-of-living crisis is having a devastating impact on the most vulnerable in society, and CFINE is on the front line in responding to increasing need for support services such as emergency food, financial/welfare advice, employability/skills development, and cooking on a budget support. “Now, more than ever, it is essential that as much support as possible is made available to those struggling. The pandemic shone a light on poverty and CFINE experienced exceptional levels of demand for services. Sadly, due to the cost-ofliving crisis demand is reaching the same level as the worst of the pandemic and looks set to continue to rise.” Around 4,000 marchers representing 120 organisations took part in
last year’s parade and all participating organisations were invited to bid for the street collection donation. “As always it was incredibly difficult to select just one recipient,” said Celebrate Aberdeen board member John Slater. “I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to apply. The calibre was extremely high and emphasised once again how much good work is going on behind the scenes to help so many people who are reliant on such organisations to provide extra support at times when they need it the most. Organisations have until Friday, June 23 to register for this year’s Celebrate Aberdeen parade which will take place on Saturday, August 26. Baillie Gifford Grants Programme Baillie Gifford This fund is aimed at supporting grassroots community organisations across Scotland with an income of less than £250,000. The fund aims to support local organisations working to address food insecurity and social isolation. Priority will go to projects benefitting the most vulnerable groups, including children and families on low incomes, veterans, people with disabilities and long-term health conditions and those affected by homelessness.

Please note this fund will prioritise multi-year activities and projects which are sustainable and can demonstrate long-term thinking and a solutions-based approach rather than short-term fixes which will be further reliant on grants to continue.
Funding Available: up to £15,000
Groups can apply for funding up to a maximum of three years. The maximum grant available is £15,000, i.e. £5,000 a year.
Applications close:
The fund can support core costs as well as project costs. However, it can only support applications where the grant request is at least 25% of the total costs. Please do not apply if your project as a whole cost more than £60,000.

Pet and Companion (PEACE) Volunteers Pet and Companion (PEACE) Do you have an interest in pastoral care, some free time and a lovely, gentle dog? Then volunteering for Pet and Companion (PEACE for short) could be for you and your furry friend! PEACE is a charity providing Canine Therapy along with Pastoral Care for people in need of support and companionship, particularly: the elderly; patients receiving end of life care; students during stressful periods; and vulnerable women. Pastoral Carers and their therapy dogs (PEACE Teams) visit people in need of support and companionship in various locations, including: Care Homes; University and College campuses; and community hubs. Ideally, PEACE Teams will volunteer for a couple of hours a week/fortnight in order to build relationships with the people they visit. The PEACE dog helps to provide a relaxing environment (the basis of canine therapy), while the Pastoral Carer offers both a listening ear and a means of support, happy to talk through any concerns or fears a person may have (pastoral care). All PEACE Pastoral Carers receive training in Mental Health First Aid, attentive listening and dementia awareness. Volunteers will also become members of the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) scheme.

Volunteer Facilitator of Climate for Change conversations Scottish Communities Climate Action Network The Climate for Change programme harnesses the power of conversations among friends, colleagues, or neighbours to create a groundswell of support for real climate action in communities across Scotland. We are looking for volunteer facilitators - you don’t need any experience – just passion, commitment and drive (though it always helps to know a bit about climate change!). We will give you all the training you need to be able to go out and bring people together to talk about this important issue. Our pilot last year was a great success which trained 60 volunteer facilitators and reached over 400 people through climate conversations hosted by 50 individuals and organisations. We invite you to join the training for the next facilitator cohort this June and become a part of the drive for the urgent action to avert the worst of the crises we are all facing. Climate Action for All: First Steps & Strategies for a Diverse Community
ACVO and AVA have long hosted regular and various fora to support, inform and develop the third sector. After a period of absence we have decided to undergo a refresh of our Third Sector Community Justice Forum. In a new approach and in partnership with AVA (TSI in Aberdeenshire) we have decided to have an in-person inaugural meeting to scope out and explore this further. This meeting will held on Monday 5th June 2023, from 10.00am to 12.00pm at SHMU, Station House, Woodside, Aberdeen, AB24 2WB. We are inviting third sector colleagues to this meeting, where in addition to networking, you can:
Community Climate Action – first steps and building towards success. How can groups widen community engagement towards climate action, and encourage a more diverse audience? This mini-training is delivered by the Ethnic Minority Environmental Network of CEMVO Scotland. This event will give climate leaders, activists, community and project workers from across Scotland hints and tips on how to build effective engagement with a diverse public.

A film about the citizen-led communityenergy movement in Europe and the visionaries lighting the way. Imagine upending the traditional energy system and giving the power of clean electricity production back to your neighbours. We The Power follows friends, families and visionaries as they break down legislative barriers and take power back from big energy companies to put it in the hands of locals and strengthen their towns. The film chronicles local cooperatives from deep in Germany’s Black Forest to the streets of ancient Girona in Spain and the urban rooftops of London, England, as they pave the way for a renewable energy revolution and build healthier, financially stable communities.
