Kids, teens brave fire control drills

Kids and teens of Asian College of Technology attended a disaster prevention seminar and participated in fire control drills last July 12 at Asian College of Technology Bulacao Campus grounds to let the students and school staff be prepared for any disaster.

The Bureau of Fire Protection of Talisay City division was invited to conduct a seminar about disaster preparedness.

The seminar was headed by Fire Marshall Figarido of the BFP. The seminar started off with a lecture about different disasters and calamities that the Philippines have faced and how to protect one’s self in surviving these disasters especially with fire.

It then proceeded to the demonstration of putting out a fire using a damp cloth, fire extinguisher and a hose. Different students and staffs volunteered to put the fires out by themselves. The seminar then closed off with the giving of certificate to IDK WHO for conducting the seminar

“The seminar and the demonstration was fun and I had learned something,”

says Anne Tan, a junior high school student, “I think I am prepared for disasters that happens in school, but when at home I am still adjusting and learning.”

Aaron Campos, an elementary student, said, “I was scared, but at the same time excited. I learned how to properly use the fire extinguisher and I think I am prepared for disaster that may happen in school.”

The school conducted their fire drill last July 31 and the school received a score of nine points out of then during the said drill.
