NOTE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR,

For nearly a year, I’ve been living and breathing Almost Famous - preparing to bring this extraordinary story to life in a way that feels both intimate and electric. This Ridgefield production is the result of a truly unique and inspiring collaboration. Over the past months, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with the original creators, Academy Award–winning writer Cameron Crowe and Pulitzer and Tony Award–winning composer Tom Kitt, as together we reimagine this beautiful musical for our stage. To have these artists entrust A.C.T. of CT with the next chapter in the life of their work has been a profound honor.

Almost Famous is more than just a musical. It’s a love letter to rock and roll, to community, and to the feeling of being a fan. Based on Cameron Crowe’s beloved, semi-autobiographical film, the story follows a young aspiring journalist thrust into the chaotic, seductive world of 1970s rock. For this production, Tom and Cameron have revisited the piece with fresh eyes, creating a version that is both deeply personal and boldly forward-looking. This run at A.C.T. of CT marks an important step toward the creation of the final, licensable version of Almost Famous that theaters across the country will one day produce.

From the very beginning, I knew that I wanted to stage this piece through a distinctive conceptual lens. Throughout the show, you’ll see the ensemble onstage - acting almost like a modern Greek chorus. They embody music, memory, and the unseen “spirits” that hover around the world of the play, shaping the environment we inhabit together. Early in the process, Tom wrote a stunning new song for this production, “The Spirits Are Still Here.” In it, Penny Lane sings:

“…the spirits are still here… in the walls and in the rafters… the music tells you all you need to know.”

That lyric became the heartbeat of my directorial conceit. We are honoring the great artists who came before us; those ghosts and spirits that live in the walls of theaters, in the rafters above stages, and in the shared memories of audiences. Their presence is palpable, and through this production, we honor them.

My hope is that our production feels poetic, immediate, and alive - with the ensemble as the driving force and heartbeat of the storytelling. I am endlessly grateful to Tom Kitt, Cameron Crowe, and of course Bryan Perri (returning as music supervisor after his work on the original Broadway production), and this extraordinary cast and creative team for their passion, artistry, and trust. Directing this show has been a once in a lifetime gift that I will forever cherish.

Rock and roll is alive and well here in Ridgefield! The spirits are, indeed, still here.

“Working with Daniel C. Levine and with Tom Kitt and Bryan Perri again has been such an exciting and joyful experience. Almost Famous has always been my most personal story, and the intimate and inspiring attention this creative team brings to the production reminds me of when I first fell in love with music. Everything feels possible, and thanks to Daniel and A.C.T. of CT, we’re bringing Almost Famous to the stage again with our whole hearts.”

- Cameron Crowe (Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, Almost Famous)

“AlmostFamous is one of my most special and cherished creations. I’m so grateful to Lia Vollack, Michael Cassel, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Sean Patrick Flahaven, The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, and everyone who has been a part of the show’s journey from The Old Globe to Broadway. Enormous thanks as well to Dan, Bryan, and everyone at A.C.T for giving Cameron and I this extraordinary opportunity to continue working on the piece in the hopes we can create the definitive version of Almost Famous that can be performed around the world for years to come.”

- Tom Kitt (Tony Award–winning composer)

Studio Art Lessons

When Jim Steinman passed in April of 2021, he left behind not only his incomparable body of musical and theatrical works, but also his beloved home in Ridgefield, CT where he lived for nearly 30 years. It was from this home that Jim collaborated with world acclaimed musicians and artists, composing on the very piano that is included in this once in a lifetime sale of Jim’s home and curated collections which have been left in situ. Jim commissioned prestigious New England architect, Rob Bramhall, to design his home and spent over $6M in the construction alone. The one of a kind art and collections included with the sale are truly priceless (inquire for Art Catalogue). The sum total of the individual components in this offering is believed to far exceed the list price, but the intention is to honor Jim’s legacy by keeping his sanctuary intact. $2,995,000

ON ANOTHER SPECTACULAR SEASON!

THANK YOU FOR BRINGING BROADWAY CALIBER THEATER TO RIDGEFIELD. CAROL DALESSIO AND FAMILY

Kids with cancer need more than medicine to heal.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, everything else slips away.

We are a Connecticut-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting families of children with cancer across the state and surrounding areas. For over 20 years, we’ve stood beside 3,600 families, offering vital emotional and financial support to help ease their journey and remind them they are never alone.

When basic needs are taken care of, families can focus on what truly matters - healing.

We understand the unique challenges the families in our Circle face - loss of income when taking time to care for their child, increased transportation expenses, the burden of unexpected medical copays... Our programs and services are thoughtfully designed to meet the demanding needs that arise throughout a child’s cancer experience—up to a year after the end of treatment. To learn more about our programs and how you can help, visit thecircleofcare.org.

Circle of Care
