LETTER FROM THE EDITORS If you feel like you might have stepped back in time a bit, then we’ve done our job. At Active Media we believe in preserving the uniqueness of the communities we serve and offering our help and support whenever possible. In Newberg the Old Fashioned Festival is a great example of community coming together to celebrate. With the 2012 theme of “Hangin’ at the Drive In” we wanted to tip our hat to a great event by creating a retro themed issue. As a bonus, we have had a great time looking through ads of yesterday as inspiration for businesses today. If you enjoy what we’ve done here, then please share that with the businesses inside, either through your patronage or just a quick comment that you enjoyed their ad in the Newberg Community Magazine.

Welcome to the June Issue of the Newberg Community Magazine! You might have noticed a few changes this time around. Not only is the magazine bigger in page size, now being the largest direct mail publication in the region, we’ve added a bunch of great businesses to the mix.

With such a limited time of warm weather, we in Oregon try to pack a lot of fun in just a few short months. As mentioned above the Old Fashioned Festival is July 26th through the 29th this year. If you have never taken part in this traditional event, you don’t know what you are missing. Don’t miss out on your favorite activities, we have provided a schedule on page 7 so mark your calendars now.

So what can we do until then you ask? Well now…Every First Friday of the month is the fabulous Art & Wine Walk.

A great chance to stroll downtown, taste wine, sample yummy food, absorb (and maybe buy) great art, plus hang out with the friends and neighbors around you. On July 6th come down to Ben Jaquith, American Family Insurance Agency. I will be featured artist for the month with Jewelry by Carla.

Need something a little more often? Starting on July 10th, every Tuesday through August you can enjoy the sweet sounds of local musicians at Tunes On Tuesday behind The Chehalem Cultural Center. All the details can be found on page 16.

DENTAL FACTS What To Do In These 4 Dental Emergencies

I

t’s important to take action quickly in emergency dental situations.

Below are a few tips on how to handle tooth injuries and pains:

1. Knocked-out tooth

Find the tooth immediately and place it in a glass of slightly salted tap water or cold milk without first cleaning or scrubbing it. Take the tooth to your dentist as soon as possible, preferably within 30 minutes of the injury, and he or she may be able to replace it in your mouth.

2. Broken tooth

3. Toothaches

Keep food away from the tooth that hurts. Rinse your mouth with warm water after eating and floss your teeth.

If your jaw is swollen, place an ice pack on the cheek that hurts. Do not put heat or aspirin on the painful areas.

Toothaches can have a number of causes, such as an unnoticed cavity, gum disease, a crack in a tooth, or a new filling that doesn’t fit right.

See the dentist as soon as possible, particularly if swelling is present.

Whenever you have a tooth injury or pain, it’s important to seek care from your dentist as soon as possible.

Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area and soothe the tooth. Place an ice pack on the cheek nearest the injury to help keep the swelling

4. Mouth sores

Avoid acidic foods, such as oranges and pineapples, which can “sting” the sores.

Often, sores in the mouth are canker sores, which are small ulcers. Call your dentist if your mouth sores persist for more than two weeks. If you notice any lumps or white patches in or around your mouth, you should see your dentist immediately, as they may indicate a more serious problem.

Whenever you have a tooth injury or pain, it’s important to seek care from your dentist as soon as possible.
