Welcome to our August 2019 issue of Wilsonville Living Magazine. We are excited to present to you our August Issue of Wilsonville Living. This year the NW Natural Street of Dreams® will showcase the latest in high-performance building & energy-efficient systems. All of the homes will receive an Energy Performance Score (EPS) that will help tell the story of each home’s minimal impact on the environment and long-term energy savings. The homes will each be receiving different green building certifications to help showcase the different energy incentive programs that are available in Oregon and how they benefit the homeowner and the builder. Additionally, they make great use of natural gas cooking in their beautiful showcase kitchens and gorgeous gas fireplaces in the living rooms.

Proceeds for the NW Natural Street of Dreams® helps the Home Builders Association maximize housing choice for those who reside in the greater Portland area. In addition to working with local jurisdictions on housing affordability and other important issues, the Home Builders Association connects consumers with home builders, remodelers, suppliers and all types of housing service providers in the Portland metro area. Visitors to the Street of Dreams will have the option to donate an additional $1 per ticket, for which the proceeds go directly to the Home Builders Foundation. The Home Builders Foundation, the charitable arm of the Home Builders Association, builds and remodels homeless shelters for families in our community.

GREAT BBQ CHICKEN Recipe by Ethan Calabrese

Grilled chicken breast may not seem like the most exciting meat out there, but it’s affordable, crowd-pleasing and a snap to cook. So why not skip the burgers at your next barbecue and try this super-easy recipe instead? You won’t want to sleep on the sauce, which is a classic BBQ jazzed up with honey and lime. It's so flavorful, the chicken really doesn't need a marinade—which means you get to eat it WAY sooner. When grilling, you want to get those grates ripping hot before starting to cook. To get gorgeous grill marks and avoid dried out food, preheat your grill (gas or charcoal) for 10 to 15 minutes. The grill is hot, your chicken is prepped, but there’s one more thing you should know. To avoid getting sick, chicken must be cooked to an internal temperature of 165ºF. Insert a thermometer at the thickest part of the meat to get an accurate reading (and if you’re grilling bone-in chicken, don’t hit the bones when taking the temperature).

DIRECTIONS 1. In a large bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, lime juice, honey, and hot sauce and season with salt and pepper. Set aside 1/2 cup for basting. 2. Add chicken to bowl and toss until coated. 3. Heat grill to high. Oil grates and grill chicken, basting with reserved marinade, until charred, 8 minutes per side for breasts, and 10 to 12 minutes per side for legs.

Jeremy’s art is inspired by vintage imagery and contemporary concerns. He likes to try and merge the two in an attempt to bridge everyone’s experiences. He’s inspired by analyzing his place in the world and how he interacts with others and navigates his world day to day life. Recently, he has been inspired by the public. His art has been expressed from reactions and interactions with others including all sorts of art viewers. “In the work of Jeremy Okai Davis, color use and fidelity to his subjects make them feel alive, but without being too literal. The work feels really light at first glance, but on closer examination of text and posture, the work is full of conflict, an exploration of the contrast between the shiny, smiling exterior that is frequently presented on the surface and the inner, self28 • WILSONVILLE LIVING MAGAZINE - AUGUST 2019

Speaking to our future, if he could tell young artists one thing to inspire them it would be to create and don’t hesitate just do it. Look at as much art as possible. Be it music, poetry, dance, or visual art - take in as much culture as you can. Ask questions and seek experiences. Jeremy’s favorite quote and inspiration came from the documentary The Woodmans “you should go to your studio every day, and if inspiration doesn’t arrive, ‘sharpen pencils’ until it does.” - George Woodman. New, old, seasoned, or whomever you are – let out your inner creativity and roll with it, you might be surprised with what comes out of it!

Art has been around Jeremy’s whole life. As Jeremy’s dad says “you become a professional when you start making money.” He sold his first painting during an artwalk in Charlotte in 2003, and hasn’t stopped! Jeremy started out from drawing - the way most kids do and that spark of enjoyment never ended. He expanded his creativity by taking art classes through high school and college. “Basketball was always number one in my life until things went south my freshman year in college. I had to decide what meant the most to me and I chose art.” Jeremy moved back to Charlotte, NC and got his degree in Painting. Since then he has been making art and is in many different exhibits.
