According to Tara, their burgers are another big favorite, and they are made with a half pound of ground beef that is all fresh, not frozen. With no less than 15 different burgers it’s difficult to imagine not being able to find something that appeals to any appetite.

They also offer a huge selection of appetizers, 12 different specialty salads - or “ruffage” as they call it - and breakfast served all day. Let’s sum up by saying this: if you leave this place hungry, you did it wrong!

Absolutely! Not only do they have 16 seasonally-rotated beers on tap, but they also have one of the largest full bars in the area. If you can drink it, they can make it. They even currently have growlers to go, so you can get your favorite beer to take home!

Tara is dedicated to keeping their full menu available during this

time, despite the cut-backs and restrictions they’ve had to accommodate for. Once things open back up for normal service, she’s looking forward to introducing some all-new menu items, too.

The team at Bounty Hunter is active in the local community, and they’re especially big supporters of the Oregon Dog Rescue. They also just participated in a huge clothing drive for Vietnam Vets.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF

PRESIDENTS DAY FEBRUARY 15TH, 2021

ach year on the third Monday of February we celebrate Presidents Day. This year the holiday falls on February 15th, but initially it was celebrated on February 22nd in honor of the birth of our first President, George Washington.

The actual date of Washington’s birthday, however, is complicated in itself. Originally, the date of his birth was actually February 11th, 1731. The reason for this was that at the time the British Empire used the Julian calendar. In 1752 they changed to the Gregorian Calendar (which we still use today) and everyone born before that year had to add 11 extra days to their date of birth. Those born between January and March also had to add an extra year, so on the new calendar Washington’s birthday was changed to February 22nd, 1732.

That day became widely celebrated from the time of Washington’s death in 1799, but didn’t become a legal or federal holiday until the late 1800’s, and wasn’t known as Presidents Day until the 1970’s.

The date of the holiday was changed in order to provide more 3-day weekends for federal workers. Before then, Washington’s birthday was celebrated as an individual holiday on that specific date, as was Lincoln’s on February 12th.

The name of the holiday, however, was never officially changed and even today is still recognized interchangeably as either Presidents Day or Washington’s Birthday.

Our modern celebration of Presidents day was a result of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which shifted the dates of several federal holidays, including Memorial Day and Veterans Day, from their specific original date to a series of predetermined Mondays.

The law was championed by both the private sector and labor unions as a way to make holiday celebrations more consistent, reduce employee absenteeism, and boost retail sales.

Since the new holiday now falls between both of their birthdays, it is often seen as a joint celebration of both Presidents. Since holidays are not mandated as binding in all states, however, many places still honor Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays individually.

Moreover, the additional result of moving the holiday and unofficially changing the name to Presidents Day is that it now honors the service of all Presidents. ■ *info from history.com and almanac.com

It comes after our officers responded to a domestic disturbance on January 6th, where they developed probable cause to arrest Jacob Macduff. While attempting to arrest him for domestic violence, officers discovered he was armed with a knife. During the struggle to arrest him, one of our officers shot and killed Mr. Macduff.

Craig initially planned on being a physician, but a photography class in college triggered his love for creativity and imagery. “When it really hit was in the darkroom,” he says. “Watching the photograph appear in the developer when you’re doing the printing process - that was the hook.”

So rather than studying medicine, he went on to get a degree in Portraiture and color technology.

A portrait session with Sharon and Craig is far more than simply getting your picture taken. Bad breath results from two key issues: oral hygiene and gastrointestinal health. Basically this means that breath odors originate not just inside the mouth but also from your digestive tract. The culprit in both cases is largely bacteria. Doctors will tell you that if you have bad breath, you should first make sure you are eating right (getting a balanced diet of protein, carbs, lots of fruits and veggies and plenty of fluids to keep the GI tract healthy) and brushing and flossing after every meal. Here are some things you can ingest (or chew) that help.

1. CHEW ON THIS. Move over parsley, there are some new

halitosis-fighting herbs in town. “Coriander, spearmint, tarragon, eucalyptus, rosemary and cardamom are all good for fighting bad breath,” says Dr. Christine Gerbstadt, who has lectured on oral health. You can chew on fresh herbs or make tonics by steeping them in hot water (as a tea). These herbs make an excellent digestif as well-doubling the benefits of ending a meal this way.

2. GET SOME ACTIVE CULTURE. No, not Cirque du

Soleil, but yogurt. A recent study found that a serving of yogurt each day reduces the level of odor-causing hydrogen sulfide in the mouth.

Apparently it also cuts back on bacteria in the mouth-plaque and gum disease were reduced in the study’s yogurt eaters as well. Plus, the American Dietetic Association (ADA) recommends getting enough vitamin D from yogurt, cheese and milk if you’re worried about halitosis because this vitamin creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria growth. Be sure to get the kind of yogurt with active cultures-not overly processed or sugar-added varieties.

3. CRUNCHY TYPES. Apples, carrots, celery-basically any

fiber-rich fruit or vegetable is your friend when it comes to fighting halitosis. “Inside your mouth, plaque build-up causes odors,” explains Cynthia Sass, ADA spokeswoman and registered dietician. “Eating foods that increase saliva production keep the mouth moist-and rinsed out. Also, many carbs and proteins can get stuck in your teeth-even healthy foods like whole grain cereal or chicken breast.” So follow a meal with a Granny Smith (feel the saliva kick in at the mention of it?) to cleanse the mouth.

4. MASKING TECHNIQUES. Sugarless gum shouldn’t

replace brushing your teeth after a meal, but in a pinch it can freshen breath (masking odors) and is another way to increase saliva production to rinse away plaque and bacteria. Mints can mask as well, but only briefly-and go for sugarless. Sugar creates plaque, and no one wants a mint that makes breath worse.

5. HIGH C’S. Eating berries, citrus fruits, melons and other

vitamin C-rich foods create an inhospitable environment for bacteria growth. A diet rich in vitamin C is also important for preventing gum disease and gingivitis-both major causes of halitosis. Get your C in foods, not supplements, which can cause gastrointestinal upset in some, according to Sass, and exacerbate bad breath.
