Divine Complexions
Premiere Luxury & Beauty By Dennis McNabb, Active Media Contributing Writer Photos By Carly Carpenter
A
fter going through a tremendously stressful time (or year), it’s important to take a moment to rest, reset, and find some balance. These are the things that allow us to continue facing life’s challenges with a healthy outlook, and I’m sure we have more challenges still to come. What better way to regain some balance in your life than with an amazing day of rejuvenation at the area’s premiere luxury beauty Medspa? Divine Complexions is the realization of a life-long dream for Christine Lewy. Christine became enamored with make-up and beauty when she was a little girl, and in high school and college that love continued to grow as she got into professional modeling. While encouraged by her family to pursue other avenues, her passion could not be denied. She had already built a solid foundation in make-up while modeling, but expanded her skills further by going into esthetics (which deals with the beautification of the skin through treatments such as facials, superficial chemical peels, body treatments, and waxing). In particular, she perfected her eyebrow waxing skills by working at Anastasia Beverly Hills, one of the most well-known waxing boutiques in California that caters to a celebrity clientele. She garnered such high praise for her expertise that she was hired to teach her methods at the renowned Paul Mitchell beauty schools. Fueled by her undying passion, Christine kept working toward the dream of having her own business, and in 2014 her determination was realized and Divine Complexions was born. There is an old adage that states: “From humble beginnings come great things,” and that could not be more appropriate to describe what Christine has accomplished. Initially, the business was run out of her house in Oregon City. She literally brought customers into her home and walked them up the stairs to the “spa” (aka guest bedroom). She heated her towels in a crock pot because she hadn’t yet built enough of a client base to afford the expensive equipment that the high end salons used.
She also happened to be 8 months pregnant with her second child when she began! Christine has 5 boys now, and she’s managed to continue building this burgeoning business all while meeting the demands of being a wife and mother to 5 energetic young males. Her example of what can be achieved through vision and determination is an inspiration to anyone who has a dream and a desire. She’s a model in both the literal and figurative sense!
Women may take more initiative when it comes to caring for themselves, but if we’re honest we could all use some esthetic treatment from time to time. As we age, our pores can start looking like potholes and our eyebrows (and ears!) become wild hedgerows! So gents, just know that it’s ok to stash that machismo away for a day and give Christine a call. Your lady may even thank you for it! Now that they are established in their new space, Divine Complexions offers the full range of spa services: waxing (including precision eyebrow waxing), facials and peels, make-up (including both application and/or lessons on application), hair styling, YUMI lash lifting, and medspa services (including Botox, dermal fillers, and medical grade facial treatments).
The first 3 years were spent slowly building a clientele and fine tuning her services. In 2017 Christine and her family moved to Wilsonville and she opened her first brick and mortar location in a small shared office space, which gave her the opportunity to buy some equipment and expand her operation. Since then, she has moved to several locations around Wilsonville, expanding into larger and larger spaces as her business grew. Most recently, Divine Complexions has moved to its newest location in Argyle Square. This is the dream come to fruition, the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and patience. By taking everything one step at a time, and building a reputation for consistently providing the absolute best service to her clients, Christine has accomplished all that she set out to achieve! Though she was apprehensive at first about making such a drastic change during the difficulties of the pandemic, Christine knew this was her big chance to take the next step and provide the type of care and service to her customers that she had always envisioned. With help from her father and husband, the space was transformed in a mere 2 months into a light, airy, and luxurious spa getaway that you can truly lose yourself in. At home she may be surrounded by testosterone, but this is her feminine space: glamorous, opulent, and luxurious, giving her the balance she needs. Divine Complexions services are not limited to those for women, however, and she doesn’t in any way want to discourage male clientele. After all, who says that men don’t need to be pampered too?
Due to her expertise and ongoing success in the industry, Christine has now been chosen as the Lead West Coast Make-up Artist for the Glo Skin Beauty line. She is a consummate professional when it comes to all things beauty, and her entire staff is made up of friendly and highly-trained professionals who are ready to help bring out your natural beauty. Christine is so appreciative of the support she has gotten from the community and wants nothing more than to reciprocate that love! She is highly involved in local events and partners with Divine Threads to help disadvantaged women in need, as well as the Clackamas County Women’s Shelter. She truly wants to give back as much as she receives. Divine Complexions is the American Dream come to life. These are the stories that make us proud, and Christine and her team are the kind of people we want to support. The fact that doing so makes you feel and look amazing is just an added bonus!
Divine Complexions is now located at 25700 SW Argyle Avenue in Wilsonville. Visit their website at divinecomplexions.com for more information, and call or text 503-757-8280 to make an appointment. For a limited time, refer a friend or family member and get 20% off a spa service, or $50 off a medspa service!

The importance of cleansing your skin By Beauty Expert Christine Lewy
W
hen someone comes to me with a skin concern such as breakouts, dull skin that lacks glow, or even fine lines and wrinkles, the first question I ask is this: “How often are you cleansing your skin and what are you using?” When it comes to having beautiful skin, the absolute most important thing to start with is your cleanser. How often should you cleanse your skin? Everyone, including children, should cleanse their face twice a day, morning and night, no exceptions. Cleansing a third time after working out is always a good idea too. Cleansing at night might be obvious. Maybe you’ve worn makeup throughout the day, but even if you haven’t, cleansing your skin at night is important because throughout the day particles called free radicals land on your skin and cause your skin to age faster. Your pores also excrete oil and you’d be surprised how many times you touch your face throughout the day. Think about all those germs and bacteria sitting on your pores! Gross! While you are sleeping is when your skin regenerates the most, and it needs a clean surface to do that best. It’s been noted that you age seven times faster if you go to bed without cleansing your skin. Putting on your skin care products at night is also important so those rejuvenating ingredients are readily available for your skin cells to utilize. Sometimes you’ll need to cleanse twice at night; for example, if you’ve had a day of heavy make up wearing. Reach for the essential cleansing oil from GloSkinBeauty to break down the oils and make up as a great first step, then use your traditional skin cleanser to remove the makeup.
Cleansing your skin in the morning is also just as important. While you sleep your pores excrete toxins and you should wash those off before you start the day. Jumping in the shower and letting water run over your face is not enough. You need to use a skin cleanser that properly cleans your skin without stripping it or changing the skin’s natural pH.
Not all cleansers are created equal. Here are some of my favorites: For oily skin, use Epionce Lytic Gel Skin cleanser. It’s a multiple award winner. Have delicate or dry skin? Try the Gentle Foaming Cleanser from Epionce. Want anti-aging in a face wash? Consider adding the Phyto-Active Cream Cleanser from GloSkinBeauty. Have a child who is just learning how to wash their face? Mustela Cleansing Wipes are an easy and affordable option for kids to learn to cleanse their face and begin the routine. There are also some ingredients you should avoid in a face wash, so be on the lookout for cleansers that contain parabens, phthalates, SLS, and formaldehyde, to name a few. Whatever your skin concern may be, consider starting back at square one with washing your face and using the right products. Getting into the routine of cleansing your skin in the morning and at night will set you up for success in achieving that complexion you’ve always wanted!
Further questions about face cleansers? Email at info@DivineComplexions. com. Christine Lewy is a Licensed Esthetician, Owner of Divine Complexions Spa, and West Coast Regional GloSkinBeauty Makeup Artist.
