attress stores seem to be a dime a dozen, with locations on virtually every street corner and dozens of online options as well. I have to admit that before speaking to Sean Hathaway, President and Owner of Mattress World Northwest, I was ignorant of the nuances distinguishing one mattress retailer from another. I assumed that there must be only so many brands and so many varieties to chose from. One buying experience would be the same as the next, right? Wrong. In fact, I could not have been more wrong. How could I have been so wrong, you ask? Well, for starters, there’s the personal element. Sean has been in the business for over 25 years. He started the parent company Furniture Showcase, Inc. back in 1995, and has been serving the community as Mattress World Northwest since 2004. He and his team are sincerely and thoroughly dedicated to making your buying experience with them truly one of a kind. This is no mere sales ploy either. Sean is the genuine article and it’s obvious in talking to him that he really cares deeply about his employees and his customers. As a business, Sean tells me they have a three-pronged approach for success: first and foremost is making sure that they are providing their customers with the very best buying options available to give them a good night sleep. They legitimately treat their employees like family and empower them to live their best lives. With the business side of things covered in the first two prongs, their last (although certainly not least) priority is helping the communities they reside in. This was, to me, perhaps the most impressive part of their operational plan. Not content to simply donate money to a charity or two (though they do that as well), Sean and his entire team have incorporated fund raising and general philanthropy into their entire corporate culture. There’s almost never a time when you will walk into one of their stores that they’re not promoting some sort of fund-raising event, whether it’s for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Susan G. Komen, Special Olympics Oregon, the Senior Citizens Council of Clackamas County or any of the local schools. Family owned and operated, dedicated to providing their customers with the best products at the best prices, all while donating to and participating in their local communities in the most meaningful ways, Mattress World Northwest exemplifies the finest of what retail businesses have to offer.
