There’s something for every taste adorning the walls and filling the open spaces of Grey Raven Gallery. The Beavertonbased art gallery works tirelessly to amass an increasingly diverse collection of paintings, sculptures, jewelry and ceramics. In the process, Grey Raven Gallery has cultivated a little slice of high society tucked away from Portland’s Pearl District. It’s a destination that’s well worth the short trip to get there.
As an extension of the educational nonprofit Golden Road Arts, Grey Raven Gallery’s ultimate goal is to support art education and exploration for today’s youth. In pursuing that goal, Grey Raven digital content creator David Leonnig explains that the gallery has become more than your average art gallery. It’s an interactive public space with big plans for 2025 and beyond.
“We want to be more engaged with the community and provide more services,”
says Leonnig. One could argue that the gallery has already made strides in this area with its robust First Friday activities plus a schedule of increasingly regular events designed to entice people into the gallery. Still, Leonnig and Grey Raven co-founders Martin Conley and Barbara Mason have no intention of slowing down.
The gallery is currently soliciting work from Northwest artists under 30 to curate its April exhibit show featuring the next generation of creative talent. In May, Grey Raven Gallery will host Erik Sandgren, one of the Pacific Northwest’s most celebrated landscape artists.
Leonnig describes Sandgren as a “fantastic” artist coming off a highly publicized showing of paintings at Maryhill Museum that focused on the Columbia Gorge. During his visit to Grey
Raven Gallery, Sandgren will reveal some paintings that weren’t on display during his previous show.
The artist will also conduct a May 9 painting demonstration at Grey Raven Gallery. This is just one of numerous interactive events at the gallery between now and the end of the year. “We hope to have more and more artist
demonstrations here in the gallery, as well as twice monthly children’s art classes.”
To that end, the creative talent at Grey Raven Gallery has produced educational videos via Golden Road Arts to teach kids how to get started creating their own art. Leonnig explains that, across 2025, the production capabilities of the Grey Raven Gallery are readily available to the public.
“There’s every reason for people to be using the facility for production or streaming the way we use it.”
In recent months, the area around Grey Raven Gallery has seen something of a renaissance. It’s a burgeoning cultural space near the Patricia Reser Center For The Arts. “We’re right around the corner
from Mingo West, which is a wonderful Italian restaurant,” says Leonnig. We see more people who make an evening of it — shopping the gallery followed by a nice dinner.”
So make some time to peruse the collection at Grey Raven Gallery as the creative space carves a cultural niche out of its Beaverton location. Visit them online at greyravengallery.com
