I am an artist, therapist, and alum of Columbia School of Social Work, and saw CSSW Action Lab's call for art submissions. I made these pieces at a time of deep personal trauma, when all sense of security and physical health were taken away from me in an instant. When all was stripped away from me, I turned to the earth — and as I healed, I often found myself laying on the earth. The earth triggered some sort of process that is hard to put into words, allowing me to go inward, regulate, and connect with a wisdom higher than myself. The earth was a conduit of healing and connection, and inspired me to become an artist and therapist many years later. These paintings were made in an effort to capture this experience.
