PIPE RELINING ON PRESSURIZED WATER SYSTEMS

STEP1

The pipe is tested for leaks

STEP2

An abrading agent is air blasted through the pipe to remove all rust and corrosion products.

STEP3

An epoxy mixture is the blasted through the pipe with conditioned air to uniformly distribute the epoxy lining through out the pipe segment.

RESULT

The result is a relined pipe, repaired from the inside. No damage to structutes! No chasing walls! No digging!

PIPE RELINING ON NON-PRESSURIZED WATER SYSTEMS

STEP1

An inspection camera is send down the pipe to reveal blocked and damaged areas.

STEP2

The pipe is cleaned with a cutting tool.

STEP3

Afelt liner impregnated with epoxy is pulled into place. Within the liner is an inflatable bladder When the liner is in place the bladder is inflated.

STEP4

The epoxy is left to cure.After curing the bladder is removed leaving behind a structural “pipe within a pipe”

Beach House Demolition part 2

SA’s funding crisis, earthquake in Morocco, floods in Greece –I have only skimmed headlines these last two weeks as my world has narrowed down to boxes and bubble wrap.

(But I did watch the Boks and the Scots. What a game!)

How can a beach house collect so much stuff?

Take hats. I think they must breed when no one’s looking. We have masses of them, even my mom’s old khaki hat although she died ages ago.

Clearing one shelf I found the lile metal grid that we used to make toast under the gas stove’s griller before we got a toaster

“Oh, that belonged to Hanlie’s granny. I want to keep that,” Julie said.

Many things remind us of the late Hanlie van Niekerk, who used to run Acon Ads with Julie. She and Julie made most of the shelves in the house, restored a lovely yellowwood table and made another one from scratch.

They also made the pin board crammed with family photos, including some of children who now have children of their own. And one of my brother looking a bit psy in a pink nylon wig. Don’t think I ever heard that backstory!

I lied my father’s fishing rod off the wall. He had made it in his youth out of bamboo with a homemade reel and all. Sweet. And books for Africa! My sister Sabrina sorted them into piles for charity and bagged others in plasc and put them in the deep freeze to kill “book worms”

We found old leers, recipes and newspaper clippings in the books including an arcle I wrote ages ago about my first parachute jump: “When my turn came it all happened so fast I didn’t have me to be scared. One minute I was in the aircra doorway and the next I was being hurled backwards by a 150km/h blast of air. Then silence, just me and my ‘chute, sailing along like a bird. It felt so good I yelped with delight.” Ah, what a joy that was.

Aer days of packing, Julie arrived with a hired trailer and two men to help carry. Quite a thing to pull a loaded trailer over the beach (our only access) but Julie is a star driver in her Landie.

Meanwhile we were francally painng poison onto tables and chairs that had borer beetle, before the guys carried them to the trailer. Man, there is a lot of borer! Can’t they eat the dead wood outside for Pete’s sake.

We were especially sad to see borer in the old yellowwood table made in my great-grandparents’ me and used in the milk room in their Knysna home, in the days when everyone had a few milk cows and stables for horses.

The house is finally empty, and we feel a lile sad. Soon the asbestos team will arrive like spacemen in their white hazmat suits and demolish this house where four generaons have spent many happy holidays.

But we will build again. As the 13th century Persian mysc and poet Rumi tells us: “In this life many demolions are actually renovaons.”

The Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge event is owned by the Lions Clubs of Knysna and Uniondale.

All proceeds from this event go to people in need in our area, with the Sightfirst Project and the South African Guide Dog Association being the primary beneficiaries at present. The first event took place in 1999 and we celebrate our 24th year in 2023.

EVENT DATE SUNDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER

The event starts in Uniondale at 07:30. Cyclists will traverse the Prince Alfred's Pass before reaching Knysna via Kom se Pad, Simola and the Salt River Road. The cut off is at the Kom se Pad/Knysna turnoff at 14:30 and the finish cut off is at the Knysna High School field at 16:00.

MOTORISTS AND RIDERS TO RIDE WITH EXTREME CAUTION PLEASE!

The Pass cannot be closed to oncoming and other traffic, but we encourage you to PLEASE STAY OFF the Pass and rider route on Sunday 24th September We have notified the public of the event, but it is the riders responsibility to keep left, unless ordered to do otherwise by Officials.

In Knysna- the Knysna Municipality has partnered with the event to build a bridge under the culvert on the N2 near Salt River - to minimise traffic interference on the National Road into Knysna. Riders will be allocated a single lane after the culvert until they ride into Waterfront Drive and turn left onto the FINISH at the Knysna High School field, west of the Caltex Garage. The first rider is expected in Knysna from around 10:00 and the final riders will be in town by approximately 16:30.

ROAD CLOSURES

Riders please note that the route is NOT CLOSED to oncoming traffic/residents. Riders MUST stay left at all times and obey traffic officers.

Participants / supporters are discouraged from driving over the Prince Alfred's Pass /Kom se Pad / Gouna / Simola on race morning. The Pass will be closed by Traffic control on the Uniondale side by 06:30 on Sunday morning 24th September If you are not past this point by then - you will NOT be allowed through by Traffic.

Support vehicles MAY NOT drive back to Knysna via the Pass and are encouraged to drive via George to the finish at the Knysna High School field on Waterfront Drive. There are NO supporter view points on the route for safety reasons. There will be a wait if you leave after 07:15 until 08:20 as traffic has to close the exit road while riders cycle out of Uniondale. We encourage you to have breakfast in Uniondale or leave before 07:15 if you are a supporter, to minimize waiting in your car
