Lake Manyara is also home to blue monkeys, really beau ful. It is a small park, 330sq km, part of Africa’s Great Ri Valley system. Half of Lake Manyara is in the park. It’s a shallow alkaline lake with an average depth of just less than a metre, and is fed by underground springs and streams that flow from the surrounding Ngorongoro highlands.

Everyone is very friendly and everyone wants to sell you something, mainly curios. I was looking for beer and fresh veggies. Hakuna matata – no problem – said one man who made me his “friend”. He led me through the interes ng but touristy Masaai market, and behind it was a huge, fresh market.
