Léonore Confino est l’auteure de Ring (L’Œil du Prince, 2009), Building (L’Œil du Prince, 2011, Grand prix du théâtre) et Le Poisson belge (Actes SudPapiers, 2015, prix Sony-Labou-Tansi des lycéens). Elle codirige la compagnie théâtrale Productions du sillon avec Catherine Schaub. The village of the deaf followed by The mirror effect

Le Village des sourds À Okionuk, les habitants mènent une vie paisible. La journée, ils pêchent et coupent du bois. Le soir, ils s’abritent et se retrouvent autour du feu. Mais ce parfait équilibre est ébranlé par l’arrivée d’un marchand proposant des produits aussi surprenants que superflus. Les villageois ne pouvant pas se les offrir, le marchand accepte d’être payé en mots. Très vite, la langue d’Okionuk disparaît et avec elle, les pensées, l’imaginaire et la mémoire du village. La pénurie de mots et l’appât du gain attisent violences et rivalités. Quand les habitants ne parviennent plus à s’exprimer, seule Youma, sourde et muette, peut empêcher la guerre civile et rétablir la paix. (2 personnages : un homme, une femme) Création en février 2023 à la Maison de la culture de Nevers. Reprise au Théâtre du RondPoint (Paris) en avril 2023. L’Effet miroir Théo est écrivain. Après un grand succès de librairie, il décide de travailler sur un nouveau genre, un texte poétique, minimaliste et aquatique, au grand dam de son éditeur et de sa femme. Mais l’interprétation du manuscrit par ses proches se révèle burlesque : tous s’identifient aux personnages de ce conte métaphorique, décelant des similitudes entre eux et un oursin, une sirène, une crevette. S’ensuit alors un dîner où sa femme, pensant être démasquée, lui avoue une infidélité avec l’éditeur de Théo, où sa belle-sœur lui confesse son amour, persuadée qu’il est secrètement amoureux d’elle, et son père lui révèle son adoption. (4 personnages : deux hommes, deux femmes) Création en septembre 2023 au Théâtre de Paris dans une mise en scène de Julien Boisselier. The Village of the Deaf The inhabitants of Okionuk lead a peaceful life. During the day, they fish and chop wood. In the evenings, they take shelter and gather around the fire. But this perfect balance is undermined by the arrival of a merchant peddling products that are both intriguing and superfluous. As the villagers can’t afford his wares, he agrees to be paid in words instead. Very quickly, the language of Okionuk disappears and, with it, the thoughts, imaginary world and collective memories of the village. The lack of words and material greed stokes violence and rivalries. When the inhabitants can no longer express themselves, only the deaf-mute Youma is in a position to prevent civil war and re-establish peace. (2 characters: one man, one woman) To be staged in February 2023 at the Maison de la Culture in Nevers and then at the Théâtre du Rond-Point (Paris) in April. The Mirror Effect Théo is a writer. After writing a bestseller, he decides to switch to a different genre: a poetic, minimalist and aquatic text. Much to the dismay of his publisher and his wife. But things take a burlesque turn when his family and friends impose their own interpretations on the work – all of them identify with the characters of this metaphorical tale, seeing similarities between themselves and the sea urchin, the mermaid or the shrimp. There then follows a dinner at which his wife, believing herself to have been unmasked, confesses that she been unfaithful to Théo with his publisher; his sister-in-law confesses her love (persuaded that he is secretly in love with her); and his father reveals that he was adopted. (4 characters: two men, two women) To be staged in September 2023 at the Théâtre de Paris under the direction of Julien Boisselier.
