It contains information on the standard design for setting up this system, and on correct, compliant utilisation of the system.

All persons working with the product described herein must be familiar with the contents of this booklet and with all the safety instructions it contains.

Persons who are incapable of reading and understanding this booklet, or who can do so only with difficulty, must be instructed and trained by the customer.

The customer is to ensure that the information materials provided by Doka (e.g. User Information booklets, Instructions for Assembly and Use, Operating Instruction manuals, plans etc.) are available to all users, and that they have been made aware of them and have easy access to them at the usage location.

In the relevant technical documentation and formwork utilisation plans, Doka shows the workplace safety precautions that are necessary in order to use the Doka products safely in the usage situations shown.

In all cases, users are obliged to ensure compliance with national laws, Standards and rules throughout the entire project and to take appropriate additional or alternative workplace safety precautions where necessary.

erected and dismantled, reset and generally used for its intended purpose in accordance with the applicable laws, Standards and rules, under the direction and supervision of suitably skilled persons. These persons' mental and physical capacity must not in any way be impaired by alcohol, medicines or drugs.

Doka products are technical working appliances which are intended for industrial/commercial use only, always in accordance with the respective Doka User Information booklets or other technical documentation authored by Doka.

The stability of all components and units must be ensured during all phases of the construction work!

The functional/technical instructions, safety warnings and loading data must all be strictly observed and complied with. Failure to do so can cause accidents and severe (even life-threatening) damage to health, as well as very great material damage.

Fire-sources are not permitted anywhere near the formwork. Heating appliances are only allowed if properly and expertly used, and set up a safe distance away from the formwork.

The work must take account of the weather conditions (e.g. risk of slippage). In extreme weather, steps must be taken in good time to safeguard the equipment, and the immediate vicinity of the equipment, and to protect employees.

All connections must be checked regularly to ensure that they still fit properly and are functioning correctly.

It is very important to check all screw-type connections and wedge-clamped joins whenever the construction operations require (particularly after exceptional events such as storms), and to tighten them if necessary.

It is strictly forbidden to weld Doka products – in particular anchoring/tying components, suspension components, connector components and castings etc. – or otherwise subject them to heating.

Welding causes serious change in the microstructure of the materials from which these components are made. This leads to a dramatic drop in the failure load, representing a very great risk to safety.

The only articles which are allowed to be welded are those for which the Doka literature expressly points out that welding is permitted.

customer before use, to ensure that it is in suitable condition. Steps must be taken to rule out the use of any components that are damaged, deformed, or weakened due to wear, corrosion or rot.

Combining our formwork systems with those of other manufacturers could be dangerous, risking damage to both health and property. If you intend to combine different systems, please contact Doka for advice first.

The equipment/system must be assembled and erected in accordance with the applicable laws, Standards and rules by suitably skilled personnel of the customer's, having regard to any and all required safety inspections.

It is not permitted to modify Doka products; any such modifications constitute a safety risk.

Closing the formwork ▪ Doka products and systems must be set up so that all loads acting upon them are safely transferred!

Pouring ▪ Do not exceed the permitted fresh-concrete pres-

sures. Over-high pouring rates overload the formwork, cause greater deflection and risk breakage.

Stripping out the formwork ▪ Do not strip out the formwork until the concrete has

reached sufficient strength and the person in charge has given the order for the formwork to be stripped out!

When stripping out the formwork, never use the crane to break concrete cohesion. Use suitable tools such as timber wedges, special pry-bars or system features such as Framax stripping corners.

When stripping out the formwork, do not endanger the stability of any part of the structure, or of any scaffolding, platforms or formwork that is still in place!

Remove any loose parts or fix them in place so that they cannot be dislodged or fall free!

Introduction

Eurocodes at Doka In Europe, a uniform series of Standards known as Eurocodes (EC) was developed for the construction field by the end of 2007. These are intended to provide a uniform basis, valid throughout Europe, for product specifications, tenders and mathematical verification.

The EC are the world's most highly developed Standards in the construction field.

In the Doka Group, the EC are to be used as standard from the end of 2008. They will thus supersede the DIN norms as the "Doka standard" for product design.

The widely used "Permissible stress design" (comparing the actual stresses with the permissible stresses) has been superseded by a new safety concept in the EC. The EC contrast the actions (loads) with the resistance (capacity). The previous safety factor in the permissible stresses is now divided into several partial factors. The safety level remains the same!

Foreword Doka supporting construction frames for safety with single-sided wall formwork Where it is not possible to place a form-tie through the formwork elements or panels to anchor them to the opposing formwork, "Supporting construction frames" enable the concrete forces to be safely transferred.

This situation occurs, for example: ▪ with stop-ends for foundation slabs ▪ with slurry walls and sheet-pile walls ▪ when forming retaining walls ▪ when casting against masonry walls ▪ when casting against insulating layers ▪ in underground-railway construction projects where a subsequent concrete split-duct is cast against a bored diaphragm wall Supporting construction frames are also used for casting mass concrete, however: ▪ e.g. in power-station construction where wall thicknesses are so great that the elongation of the tie rods that would take place means that it is no longer technically or economically viable to place throughties.

For pour heights of up to 1.20 m The "Supporting construction" makes it possible to form walls of up to 1.20 m in height (such as stop-ends for foundation slabs) without using through-ties, and with only a minimum of labour.

This does away with the need for time-consuming jobsite improvisations.

Product features: ▪ Suitable for timber-beam and framed formwork.

▪ Low weight, making them an ideal complement to hand-set formwork.

▪ Loads are transferred into the ground by nails or dowel-and-screw type fixing points in the sub-base course – no need to prepare anchoring points.

Vertically extending the Supporting construction frame

The loads from the diagonal anchors are transferred via anchor walings (multipurpose walings).

For each SC-frame, an anchor is placed 15 cm either side of the vertical axis of the SC-frame (i.e. 2 in all).

Exception: If the load-bearing capacity is sufficient for 1 anchor per SC-frame, the anchors on each unit must be placed symmetrically.

Pouring platforms Important note: Because of the great flexibility with which SCframe units can be set up and combined with different formwork systems and heights, consideration should be given at the planning stage to which platform configuration is most suitable for the intended application (collision test, maximum drops etc.).

Also consider the situation applying during lifting of the SC-frame units, particularly when the platforms are above the crane hoisting points.

Observe all applicable safety regulations.

Formwork-dependent platforms The pouring platforms and brackets belonging to the formwork system in use can continue to be used. As with normal wall formwork, these are mounted directly onto the formwork.

Fixing the anchor waling

Anchor positioning

Together with the Super plate 15.0, the Anchor waling positioner secures the Anchor waling so that it cannot tilt or slip out of position.

The loads from the diagonal anchors are transferred via anchor walings.

For each SC-frame, an anchor is placed 15 cm either side of the vertical axis of the SC-frame (i.e. 2 in all).

For more details on different anchoring variants, see "Anchoring solutions for the supporting construction frames".

Exception: If the load-bearing capacity is sufficient for 1 anchor per SC-frame, the anchors on each unit must be placed symmetrically.

Fixing the formwork The 'Supporting-construction distancer 20 cm' is fastened in the form-tie sleeve of the formwork panel using the 'Supporting construction frame bolt 27cm' supplied.

During assembly, the SC-frame bolt can be secured with a Sealing sleeve 15.0 5cm so that it cannot drop out.

Supporting the top framed formwork panel The Framax/SC-frame connector is a lengtheningpiece for the supporting construction frame, which enables the top framed panel to be given proper support.

The SC-distancer 20cm is bolted to the Framax/SCframe connector using a hexagon screw M16x60 (included with product).

The SC-distancers 20cm are positioned following the same rules as for form-ties on double-sided wall formwork (see User Information booklet "Doka framed formwork Framax Xlife" or "Alu-Framax Xlife").

Pouring platforms Important note: Because of the great flexibility with which SCframe units can be set up and combined with different formwork systems and heights, consideration should be given at the planning stage to which platform configuration is most suitable for the intended application (collision test, maximum drops etc.).

Also consider the situation applying during lifting of the SC-frame units, particularly when the platforms are above the crane hoisting points.

Observe all applicable safety regulations.

Formwork-dependent platforms The pouring platforms and brackets belonging to the formwork system in use can continue to be used. As with normal wall formwork, these are mounted directly onto the formwork.

The Supporting construction frame Universal F is equipped with 3 crane-hoisting points. In this way, it is always possible to find an optimum centre-of-gravity position for the whole unit, despite the many different possible configurations of the formwork and SC-frames (e.g. vertically stacked configurations using attachable frames).

Max. load: 2500 kg per crane-hoisting point

Important note: When lifting and resetting SC-frames, do not attach the crane to the formwork element or to other components such as multipurpose walings.

▪ Permitted lift-in-one unit: Supporting construction frame unit with max.

3 parallel SC frames ▪ Only lift/reposition units that have been correctly braced.

▪ Before repositioning, check that the formwork element/panel is correctly fixed onto the Supporting construction frame (Walingto-bracket holder, Supporting construction distancer 20cm, Framax supporting construct. frame bolt 36cm).

▪ Before repositioning, check that the Adjusting spindles are in the correct position (to transfer the load from the weight of the formwork).

▪ Lifting the SC-frames with the formwork attached is only permitted at near-ground level.

▪ Make sure that the crane suspension tackle is sufficiently long (oblique pull).

▪ Never use the crane to break concrete cohesion!

Assembly; transporting, stacking and storing Example of a vertically stacked configuration:

Pre-assembly ➤ Place a Supporting construction frame Universal F 4.50m and an Attachable frame 1.50m (plus an Attachable frame F 2.00m if needed) flat on the ground. ➤ Dismount the front spindle, including the nut-plate, from the Supporting construction frame Universal F 4.50m. Mount this spindle in the appropriate Attachable frame (spanner width-across 24 mm). ➤ Unscrew the rear spindle from the Supporting construction frame Universal F 4.50m and screw it into the appropriate Attachable frame (width-across 46 mm).

➤ Lift the pre-assembled formwork element by crane and position it against the SC-frame unit. ➤ Fix the formwork element to the SC-frame unit (the connectors used will depend on which formwork system is being used). ➤ Detach the formwork element from the crane.

Transferring the forces which occur The high anchoring and reaction forces which occur when SC-frames are used necessitate a number of additional safety precautions.

▪ For tension anchoring, choose the Doka anchoring system – 15,0, 20.0 or 26.5 – that is most suitable for the tensile forces occurring.

▪ Reinforce all structure members sufficiently.

▪ The forces can only be transferred safely into the anchorage foundation where the concrete slab (d) is sufficiently thick.

Dimensioning the anchorages

The variants illustrated here apply to the Variabel and Universal F supporting construction frames.

In each anchoring system, there are two variants to choose between: ▪ With pigtail anchor This is the anchorage method that can best transfer the high tensile forces from SC-frames into the foundation slabs.

M The depth mark must always be at the end fitted into the she-bolt

▪ With stop anchor CAUTION ➤ It is forbidden to mix suspension components that have different depths of concrete cover! ➤ Always screw in components until they fully engage. When correctly fitted, there will still be 1 cm of thread visible between the part and the depth mark on the stop anchor or pigtail anchor.

The required cube compressive strength of the concrete at the time of loading must be specified separately for each project by the structural designer. It will depend on the following factors: ▪ load actually occurring ▪ length of stop anchor or pigtail anchor ▪ reinforcement / extra reinforcement steel ▪ distance from edge The introduction of the forces, the transfer of these forces into the structure, and the stability of the overall construction, must all be verified by the structural designer.

The required cube compressive strength fck,cube,current must be at least 10 N/mm2, however.

Follow the directions in the Calculation Guide entitled "Load-bearing capacity of anchorages in concrete" or ask your Doka technician!

Fitting diagonal anchors In everyday site practice, there are various different ways of preparing positioning points for diagonal anchors at a precise angle (usually 45°), depending on the site situation.

The following examples show several possible and effective variants. These apply equally to the use of either pigtail anchors or stop anchors.

Fit the anchors at a 45° angle!

Fitting a diagonal anchor at a steeper angle than this increases the load!

If the angle is increased by 10° (i.e. to 55°), this increases the load on the tie rod by over 20% and may thus lead to serious overloading.

Fixing to reinforcements Option 1 By using two extra longitudinally-placed reinforcement rods, the anchor can be firmly fixed so that it safely withstands pouring.

The extra hoop means that the bottom reinforcement rod can be fitted in a relatively exact position.

This method permits variable distribution of the positioning points, and can therefore be re-used in any situation.

Alternatively, a clear, fixed arrangement of the positioning points can be made with nailed-on wedges of square-sawn timber.

Many variations are possible on this theme, meaning that this example can be optimised for the case in hand.
